Hey Guys,
i think i broke my Defy and i got the feeling that it may not be recoverable...
So i tried to install a new SBF, cause i wanted to have a Stockrom on it.
Unfortunately i might have touched the usb-cable and the flash failed.
I had the Problem with the ShadowRom, which means whatever sbf i want to flash, i first need this Oldschool Chinese Beta Rom (JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf
).
I Pluged in my defy and RSD-Lite recognizes the Phone as S-Flash Omap 3630, it also flashes the sbf, says that its rebooting and then i get a black screen. In RSD nothing chages when i plugin the Phone again.
The white LED is glowing.
I'm using RSD-Lite 6.0 and my Phones drivers are installed.
In the Attachement i put a screenshot of what stands on RSD-Lite.
Is there anyway, i might be able to restore the Phone.
PS.: Also tried 2 other .sbf's, same result

Just make sure you have enough battery charge, I think you may be with no charge, so you won't make it...
If your battery is gone, you will have to use McGyver method, or an external charger. The defy won't charge by usb or wall charger if it don't have a system...

Thanks for this hint
Still got an old McGyver-Cable and an external Batterycharger.
I bricked my Defy really often, when it was my daily driver, so it was a necessary buy

Hi,
I've updated my Defy to the Chinese 2.21 Firmware a few days ago following this How-To http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919320 and everything worked fine for a couple of days but now I have strange problems with my battery:
--if I connect the mobile to the power supply nothing happens. The white LED sometimes goes on for a split second but then stays black.
--if i connect the mobile to the computer the white led goes on and it starts charging the battery, but after a few minutes the mobile starts booting by itsself and a few moments after i see the motorola symbol the white LED is going off and the mobile boots up to froyo but it switches itsself off very soon because the battery is low.
Any ideas how to make my mobile usable again?
Thank you
If you got the chance, try a different battery...
i read somewhere that someone had luck with that.
In a few days I will get a second defy from a friend, then i can find out and tell you if it is a problem of the battery, the usb port or the software...

Hi guys,
I`ve just had the same problem with my green lense defy.
basically when you recover using the chinese sbf you get the defy + kernel with it so it becomes a red lense/ defy+ as far as the battery charging is concerned.
So you need to install the battery fix for the red lense or defy+
there's a updated fix for the cm10
copy the zip to your sd card and flash the zip from recovery and all will be well. either via the usb if this is working and you have enough charge left or put the sd card in your card reader or adaptor on pc.
You may need to charge the battery using macguyver method (not more than half an hour and stop if battery starts getting warm or it may go bang.) or preferably 3rd party lion charger £19.99 in maplins at the moment.
just on my way out the door so haven't got time to post the links but easy to find if you search this forum.
good luck

Thanks, but I have not used Chinese sbf, regular CM7.2 for my defy ( green lens); With macguyver I got the defy charged up, it boots up and all; Only problem is that anything with the usb is not working, neither charging, nor recognizing ( by RSdLite, Motorola Media link, or Windows). I have been using CM7.2 for months without any problem; Also after charging via macguyver I tried re installing to old backed up Motodefy ROM, and also reinstalled CM7, as I said evertthing works except anything connected to USB, tried also different computers , uninstalled medialink, re-installed RSDLite all the works
will try some more; Any hints links welcome. Thanks

I did not touch the phone for a week I guess aftter this, now it is working; strange
I've tried everything. The phone does not turn on at all, can't go into bootloader or recovery mode, only white LED light on when connected to pc.When i connected it for the first time to my PC (i have the drivers) windows showed "Motorola flash device" and was installing the drivers for it then the phone disconnected, windows was saying "Device unplugged!".Every time i connect it to the PC,nothing happens. If i press the power key,the PC makes that sound that it connects, then after 2 seconds it disconnects.I have to take the battery out and put it back in to make the PC connect to it again, disconnect after 2 seconds.I tried holding volume up and connecting,no luck,RDS does not read the device, tried with "First come first served" mode, nothing. The battery was a bit swollen so i brought a new one, both charged,no luck. The phone is bricked. What can i do?please help!

charged old battery with universal phone battery charger, nothing.got new battery, nothing.
this happened to me once, rsdlite would not recognise it etc etc. I am not sure how I fixed it, but I did end up getting it working so don't give up.
Try uninstalling and then installing the latest version of rsdlite
Also try and use a different computer.
Try downloading drivers for your defy off the internet - im sure you will find them somewhere
and lastly, use the search function in other threads, maybe someone else has had the same problem...........
I actually had this on saturday night.
I used MacGyver to charge my battery, and just kept using different RSDLite versions until it detected my phone Make sure you're using the right SBF too.. http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordan/list.php
tried mcgyver, tried other RSD versions, installed defy drivers, still nothing.Disconnects after 2 seconds, before RSD has a chance to read it

Tell you what, maybe you should jump on ebay and buy another battery? I bought one that comes with a seperate charger. this way you know that you have a charged battery in your device.
Also try a different usb cable? I have so many that stop working or only work when you physically push them in or to an angle.
have you tired a second computer?

The problem started when i tried to downgrade my defy to CM7.2 from CM10.
First i was getting a problem of "Encryption unsuccessful". i browsed through a lot of threads and decided to use Rsdlite to flash a sbf file.
i tried flashing the Asia retail version. It showed 'Passed" in Rsdlite but i got stuck at the Motorola logo.
i again browsed through a number of threads, watched a few videos, and decided to flash a sbf "DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_ROOTED_No_Signed" (i now realise this was fatal for my phone). (till this point the "SW Update" screen on phone showed the bootloder version to be 9 or 10 (dont exactly remember)). The phone just died after this. It wont start . No Motorola logo, No Recovery Mode, No bootloader mode. It just showed white led when connected to the pc and was not recognized by Rsdlite. i realised that the problem might be Empty Battery.
After this i tried the McGyver method and finally my phone was recognized by the rsdlite.
but now during the SW Update phase the screen doesnt show any bootloader version. and the end result is the same. White light at top, phone doesnt start, no M logo,,,, just a dead brick... another problem is that even after i put in a new battery, rsdlite will only recognise the phone only when i use the McGyver fix.
Please help me..... give me a working sbf file..
i dont want to just give up on this incredible phone...please help....

Do you have Defy or Defy+? If you have Defy (which lens?), then you just made your phone BL7. Follow this thread and report back - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889325.
When downgrading from CM10 to CM7.2, always remember to format system and data to ext3 first! I made the same mistake (had the same problem as you), then I followed the above guide.
When the SW update screen comes up, bootloader version doesn't show normally.

I think you just flashed a bl7 sbf (Defy+) meaning your phone now has Defy+ firmware with green lens. If you've tried everything else and it didn't work, then do that as a last resort. Both CM10 and CM10.1 will work.

Btw, this is the information i get when i connect my phone to my pc through rsdlite...
IMEI/ESN/MEID: N / A
Technology: N / A
Software Version: N / A

Bootloader Version: v0x000910
DRM Version: N / A
AP Die ID: 04500210611268010000dcff0200
BP Die ID: 0000000000000000000000000000
AP Public ID: 0a637f619605568d5c5aa50534a5bd6f5d743076
BP Public ID: 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000
To confirm you've gone to BL7, you can try flashing froyo sbf. There will be a bootloader error. If that's the case then follow that thread and CM10/10.1 or MS2Ginger are the only options I think.

Yes, the camera won't work since it is green lens. The sbf you flashed in the beginning (DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_ROOTED_No_Signed) made your Defy into Defy+. That sbf was meant to be for Defy+ users.
You cannot go back to Defy. Since your phone is now BL7, you cannot go back to froyo.
So now you can flash MS2Ginger/CM9.1 (by walter79)/CM10/CM10.1 or any 2ndboot ROM. I think you can't install CM7 also.
You can find MS2Ginger,CM10/10.1 ROMs by Googling. Download CM9.1 by walter79 here - http://d-h.st/users/walter79/.
HI, I believe I have the same problem... I tried flashing my defy + with a portuguese version of android 2.3, when I was at 2.3. Now all I have is black screen with white led and it is not recognized by rdslite. As far as I understand I have first charge the battery with McGyver method or other charger, which will make the rdslite recognize the phone, and after that I can flash it with a newer firmware and get it back to life. Is this correct?
Thank you!

Thank you!

Unless your battery is low do not use McGyver. Use it only as a last resort.
You must have tried to downgrade, which is not possible in Defy+ through RSDLite.
Do you know if there is any way to recover my phone? It is not being recognized by rdslite anymore. While rsdlite was recognizing it I tried flashing with JORDN_U3_97.21.51, but nothing happened.

The usual. Update drivers and RSDLite, make sure you are in bootloader mode. If all else fails, go McGyver and get RSDLite to recognise the phone.

Y U FLASH ECLAIR SBF? You happened to find the retarded Eclair SBF that has a CG version of 5. Make sure that you are in bootloader, then make sure that it is really a low battery problem (either the phone doesn't turn on at all, including regular boot, bootloader or recovery) or it says "battery low, cannot program" in bootloader.

From my Experience ::
1. cross your fingers :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
2.Use the Mcgyvor's method to get your phone recognized by rsdlite. (Only as a last resort)
3.After that just follow the procedure in Hotdog's Guide ( 2nd or 3rd reply in this thread)
4.After that your phone will become MB526.
5.flash any ROM designed for both 525 and 526
Cheers..!! :goodYou can treat me If you want..

You're gonna have to wait, buddy. It says right up on the website: "Quit e-mailing me about "no links" lol ..... there was a HDD failure - links are being recovered (will take some time)."
Right now only the 2012 and 2013 phones are up (etc. Droid Razr, Droid Razr HD, Electrify M, Photon Q).
Unless someone can upload the huge-a** file to some file-sharing service, you're out of luck. Sorry. I don't even have the Defy SBFs anymore.

Restored my phone :good:
SBF from here
:victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory:
Which SBF did you flash, please?
My motorola defy + (mb526) does not leave the screen with the red "M" .. I've tried to use RSD to Retail Brazilian sbf, yet he still is not connecting or downloading.
He was in version 4.1.1 (Rom CM10), and when the battery reached 0% he did not want to start, or load.
My Defy came with version 2.3.5 factory.
I tried other threads, but none worked.
Someone help me please.

Is it possible to charge through a wall charger while the phone is in stock recovery?

No, it does not load at all.
Just using a universal battery only on battery.
If it does not load in the cell, only discharges.

You'll have to go McGyver. If I'm correct, you'll need two USB-microUSB cables, one for the charging and one for flashing later.

Note that this will require hardware modification, so I do not take any responsibility and neither does anyone else if something goes wrong. Good luck. Since you've used a custom ROM already, the service shop will probably see that and charge you extra/not fix anything.
i had rooted the defy+ & installed cm7(i think because it had been a long time ago) for my friend
my friend did a reset on the phone since it was slowing down...
i think it has bricked...
because it doesn't turn on also
he got it checked at the service center, they said they have to change its motherboard
i doubt that....
i think the battery is dead too
will it charge even if the phone is bricked???
now how do i restore the phone back to stock????
any kind of suggestions will be appreciated
Use the Motorola factory cable guide to make the cable which should get you to the boot loader if your motherboard is fine

it's turn off (take the battery out if it's getting stuck at boot to make sure) then hold down power and vol UP to get to the boot loader
If you get no response with factory cable, your device may be hard bricked

is there a link that you can post??
EDIT: battery is charging via usb now
THANKS to @sevenrock
is it possible that the bootloader could be deleted???
because i was goin through some threads
twrp erased the internal storage along with the bootloader
thats what he claims...
just curious...
is dat possible?
btw i left the phone overnight connected(not the original moto cable, used sony cable) to my macbook pro(running win 8.1)
still the same
in rsd lite nothing shows up even after pressing down power+volume up
The McGyver method is very dangerous I would have sugested you not to use it because in my case I will never have the possibility of charging my phone via usb cable but with an universal charger and it can't be reverted so you are warned now,
Are you sure your battery is now charged to enter bootloader? It can't be erased, if not, then charge your battery with an universal charger then try to enter bootloader

Try a flash, if you have a black screen after flash try a bl7 sbf(dfp 231)
You can also try ticking ti omap blank flash in rsd

after seeing thekguy mentioning abt dfp 231 i just remembered that i had flashed that sbf when i had rooted the phone
the phone booted after flashing bl7 sbf(dfp 231)
i guess the phone was bricked
& when it gets bricked... it goes to bootloader i guess
because i didnt have to press any buttons to go into bootloader
i just connected to rsd lite & flashing started & the screen lit up saying "SW update in progress"
Thank you guys for all the help & suggestons:good:

I you have a bootloop , could not get into a recovery haven't a rooted devive with usb debugging on , first try a factory reset from stock recovery.....before & after sbf flash
p.s.: nice to see nearly unbrikable defy once more
one of the forum rules tells us first read and use search function to keep threads clean because of things happen again and again and again
nothing for bad. ...
cheers
