[Q] Please help with 4.4 update causing much anguish - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day,
I have a rooted 2012 nexus 7 with unlocked bootloader. I , unfortunately, rushed to update to kit kat as soon as Google made this possible a couple of days ago and now my n7 boots into twrp 2.6.3.0. I'm looking at the twrp welcome screen and can change it to a blank page which tells me at the very bottom of it "Updating partition details". Can someone please tell me what steps to take in order to get back to some kind of normalcy. I use my n7 for EVERYTHING and am a fish out of water right now.
I am traveling at the moment and staying with my 80 year old mother who has very little patience with her son sitting at a computer for hours on end, a quick fix would be so very very appreciated.
A thousand thanks to anyone who could get me out of this fix.

Guys I could use help with this also I did the ota like a jerk also now I'm stuck at the screen with the circles just moving in and out

Sounds similar to my situation. I was stuck on that same screen.

Thanks danipoak, I ended up doing the same thing and just went for a reset but using Nexus Root Toolkit. Had full backups fortunately so no big deal really.

Atrix dieing?

Hey guys, i just got a replacement Atrix because my girlfriend dropped my original Atrix in the toilet, and the new Atrix keeps dieing/shutting down after the screen has been off for more than 10 minutes. Any clues or hints as to what i can do to stop this or perhaps this is just a faulty device?
More info needed on your setup, i.e. ROM, bootloader unlocked, etc.
Not sure if this was the case before i got the phone, but i did notice that the screen wouldn't turn on after it timed out the first time i turned it on.
As for my setup, i unlocked the bootloader as soon as i got it, and i rooted it also. After rooting it i put The DarkSide v3.1.0 on it.
Oh ya, one more thing, the only way to keep the phone from dieing by timing out is to set the screen to never time out... Don't know if that bit of info would be helpful.
if the issue is not resolved by a factory reset, it sounds like you were sent a faulty replacement device.
since it was unlocked and all, re flash a different ROM and see if the issue persists.
Kk, i'll put a new rom on it in a bit and re-update with the progress.
Ehhh... No luck, slapped on Alien by Kenn and still no luck... I'll wait and see if anyone else has any other helpful hints meanwhile i search other forums. Guess my best bet would be to get another replacement again?

Try flashing different kernels and also try to fix permissions on recovery. If these don't help, I am afraid you have a faulty Atrix my friend.

[Q] Non Starter.

I have had my Nexus 7 for some time now and it has always worked flawlessly, until today that is. I last used it on Wednesday and it was OK. I didn't use it at all yesterday but when I tried to use it today .......no go. I keep it in one of those cases with the magnetic closure when I opened it the pad was off. I turned it on and after a longer time than usual I got the Google sign and after a very short time the Nexus logo, the multicoloured X and the light were going round it as usual. That is as for as it went, I thought maybe the battery was low so I conected the charger but there were no changes. I tried to turn the pad of to know avail. After some time I managed to turn it off but it restarted itself straight away.Eventualy I managed to turn it off and stay off by pressing and holding the power and volume up buttons. I left it like that for some time and then turned it on again with the same result as earlier.
Sorry if this has been a bit long winded but I thought it best to give all the facts I could to stop anyone good enough to help from having to ask questions and the wait for a reply.
Any help anyone can give will be much appreciated, oh I do miss my little 7.
Is it stock? Try holding the power button for about 30 seconds that is a hard reset.

Ouch.
Everyone hates bricks, semi or full.
I suppose now would be a good opportunity to root it and install a recovery (I recommend TWRP) ? This would completely unbrick your device. The downside is that you will lose ALL data.
I can't think of any way to help that isn't all ready on this thread, that doesn't involve data loss. Sorry :S
If you don't want root, but don't mind data loss, you could try restoring factory image (though it is as easy to root, and I would recommend doing so)
Good luck
Many thanks for that Fallon9111 It looks to me as if root is going to be the way for me to go.
I have had PC,s Smartpgones and two or three tablets and have never rooted any of them.exept one and that one was made possible for me to do as I was given complete foolproof, one sylable instructions. I bet you can guess you and anyone else who reads this what's coming next, can you or somebody please give me idiot proof instuctions to root my 7.Please..

Did you manage to root yet?
If you are still stuck on rooting, there are many good tuts on xda, and rooting nexus's is the easiest
Windows method I recommend: WUGS
Other: android sdk (command line)
To be honest, I found the command line method on linux the easiest

A little help restoring a broken S4

Alright so I managed to break the LCD screen on my Galaxy S4 yesterday. The screen and touchscreen don't work at all. I went to sprint, and they are getting me a new phone. So while that's all set, I told them that my phone was rooted. They said that they didn't mine (They were really cool about the whole thing, the woman working there even asked me my opinion on jailbreaking her iphone!). They just want me to take the root off of it before I go in to trade it in for the new phone.
Here's the thing, since the screen is broken I need to restore the phone with odin (Which I have used before). The phone still works, but the screen won't show anything. But I can not find the stock software for 4.3 anywhere. It's currently running cyanogenmod.
I've spent the past half hour googling how to do this. Can somebody point me in the right direction for the software and how to lock the bootloader over odin?
Thanks so much guys!
Found this on first search.

[Q] Is there away of geting notification when "NC4" becoming rootable

Ok so I am incessantly checking to see if someone has finally got root working on "NC4"
I am one of the unfortunate ones who's stuck at NC4 and desperately missing full access to my phone, fact is if my note I I'm screen wasn't smashed up thusly was usable I'd probably be using it for everything but phone calls.

Unbrick Verizon Note 7 (No matter How Bad)

Hey guys,
I created an account here just to share this fix with you all.
To start, Tuesday morning, I decided to update the note 7 (to the firmware that changes battery color if your device is safe). After finding that my battery is still white, I contacted my Verizon Rep and ordered a replacement. Since the phone should have arrived the very next day (corporate account) I decided to flash my phone using the root methods in this forum... BIG mistake. If anyone can confirm that after updating the note, root is successful, then please share. But in the end what I was left with was a note 7 that wouldn't even accept the verizon firmware flashed through Odin. Smartswitch didn't work either (wouldn't accept my serial) so i was pretty much SOL and out of a phone... Until today.
After one last attempt to fix this as I wait for my replacement to arrive, I was searching on the verizon forums and found an old post from the galaxy s5 on their forum. I downloaded the repair assistant from here * verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-80201/#windows * and put my phone in download mode. After connecting it and selecting REPAIR in the verizon software, the program downloaded the latest firmware and brought my phone right back to factory settings working as good as new. This was the only method that I found to work after several days of frustration.
I hope this helps someone out there. Thank you for reading!
i assume the only option was the most recent firmware?

Correct. The software goes to Verizons servers and downloads the latest firmware. So the annoying "power down now!" pop ups still show when the device is plugged in but it will be replaced soon anyway At least I have a functional phone in case of an emergency until the replacement arrives.
dude you save my life..same exact thing happen to me,but I had already updated my new note with the green battery and when I tried to flash the sprint firmware it failed and brick my phone..i decided to do the update cause people where saying that it did work with the new phone. but i guess i should of waited and not apply the new update.oh well
Glad to hear I helped somebody! Maybe I'll learn to live without root for a little while lol. The phone is still awesome

Okay, this worked for me, so I'm paying it forward because you guys have been tremendously amazing!!
SO, like many people with the PHE Verizon Note 7 , I received the 60% update and unknowingly installed it. Was very unhappy and tried to root my device not knowing that it would semi-brick it. Used the verizon software assistant to repair it and it erased and restored my device back to the point where it prompted me to install the update again. Downloaded package disabler pro apk version 6.3 and turned off auto update in the play store. MANUALLY entered in two file names which I will post below this and.. VOILA!!!! NO MORE UPDATE MESSAGE... EVER!!! This works only for VZW Note 7 as far as I know.
I disabled these two: com.samsung.sdm and com.sec.android.soagent since we are talking about Verizon here. They do vary by carrier.
First one gets rid of the message icon in the notification bar. Second one I guess stops it from coming back. Hope this helps someone!!
THANK YOU!!
You saved me from having to downgrade to an inferior phone. THANK YOU!!!
My wife (whose Note 7 was not rooted) accidentally did the upgrade from PH1 to PHE. Do you supposed we could plug her phone in and use this software to get it to revert back to the stock PH1 firmware? I'm trying to figure out how we can get her phone back to stock, if at all possible.

No. Not possible.
She is stuck on STOCK PHE.. block updates so she doesnt get bumped to the next STOCK upgrade at 60% battery
Hmmm. She now has the update where she's limited to 60% battery. Can't she do like Tmunroe1 above, try and root and use the Verizon software to revert it back? Seems like that would replicate exactly what he did, and ultimately end up back at stock like we want, yeah?
EDIT: Let me clarify. She does not care about root. She just wants her 100% battery back, so I'm interested in knowing if we can plug her phone in and utilize the Verizon Repair Assistant to revert it back to PHE w/ 100% battery.
Possibly

That worked for me. Yeah, I attempted root and bricked it unknowingly (I've rooted phones before but didn't adequately research the versions that wouldn't work. I was rooting for the express purpose of blocking the 60% limitation). But when the Verizon/Samsung repair software went in, it put me back to the version prior to the 60% update. I'm now able to charge to 100% and have blocked further updates using methods described above. Unfortunately, we likely don't have any way of knowing what version the repair tool will put on the phone, as they may or may not have remembered to update it by now. The version the recovery software put on my phone is N930VVRS2APHE. I hope this helps.
