Hey guys, i just got a replacement Atrix because my girlfriend dropped my original Atrix in the toilet, and the new Atrix keeps dieing/shutting down after the screen has been off for more than 10 minutes. Any clues or hints as to what i can do to stop this or perhaps this is just a faulty device?
More info needed on your setup, i.e. ROM, bootloader unlocked, etc.
Not sure if this was the case before i got the phone, but i did notice that the screen wouldn't turn on after it timed out the first time i turned it on.
As for my setup, i unlocked the bootloader as soon as i got it, and i rooted it also. After rooting it i put The DarkSide v3.1.0 on it.
Oh ya, one more thing, the only way to keep the phone from dieing by timing out is to set the screen to never time out... Don't know if that bit of info would be helpful.
if the issue is not resolved by a factory reset, it sounds like you were sent a faulty replacement device.
since it was unlocked and all, re flash a different ROM and see if the issue persists.
Kk, i'll put a new rom on it in a bit and re-update with the progress.
Ehhh... No luck, slapped on Alien by Kenn and still no luck... I'll wait and see if anyone else has any other helpful hints meanwhile i search other forums. Guess my best bet would be to get another replacement again?

Try flashing different kernels and also try to fix permissions on recovery. If these don't help, I am afraid you have a faulty Atrix my friend.

ok. if you are not rooted, take ot back to big red and get a replacement. from what i hear, the incredible is not that well made. i know that on my inc-- sometimes haptic feedback gives out, sound gives out, amd it overheats

i'm not rooted. i was just using the phone normally and then it randomly rebooted. now it's stuck in a loop.
do you guys think if i apply a manual non-rooted update it would fix the problem?
if yes, where can i get a link to download this?
RUU
You should try running any of the stock RUU's; maybe even the most recent one (although I make no warranty; and this is at your risk). Perhaps your reboot loop is a heat related issue due to a faulty radio which is working too hard.
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/
has the RUU's although it is not clear as to how long.
I am on my 2nd incredible; first one overheated and would then would do a 4-13 white screen / black screen / white screen / ... until it would move on.

Welp
While it may not help you, it can't hurt to say. I was having huge reboot issues ... highest number was 13 initial white screen / black screen cycles. I could also NEVER get into Recovery (I could get into HBOOT but when I chose recovery, it would do TWO reboots, the second being full). A battery pull was usually needed.
However, the one thing that allowed me into recovery, etc., was to let the phone charge overnight to 100% and let it be. In the morning, the phone was charged and cool. At that point, I could easily get into recovery, start up, etc.
While I am sure you have tried this; just wanted to note to make sure your phone is cool and you did a battery pull for at least 10 minutes.
I too have this issue
I also have a stock incredible that I bought second hand, which when i bought it, I checked to make sure the device was ok. When I activated it like 2 minutes later it entered a reboot loop. I thought it might be a botched PRL so I went to the Verizon Rep (I met the seller at vz store) and he performed a forced activation. It continued the reboot loop so I took it home. I noticed that if I was outside or near a window, the phone would act normally. I used this discovery to root it and install a recovery. I flashed a few kernel/rom/radio combinations including stock rooted but there was no luck. I flashed back to RUU and it continued to reboot loop. The next day I reversed the activation back to my Eris. 20 minutes later the phone is perfect. I reactivated the device and it commenced rebooting immediately. I took it back to the store and they noted the same behavior. I'm pretty sure it's a faulty radio but since it wasn't activated on the original # they couldn't warranty it. They did tell me if the original owner activates it, they will warranty it so were gonna do that. I hope nobody else has this issue, but if you have this problem, try RUU, and if that doesnt fix it, it's likely hardware failure
Hey guys,
I've got a new HTC Desire Z, its been purchased "off line" i.e. sold without any contract.
Anyway ive noticed sometimes it doesnt come out of stand by, so i done a factory wipe and have no additional software running.
Its still doing the same, i updated via the update option on the phone, that didnt help either.
I've searched old threads, tried most things, i was wondering if theres any new information on the matter.
If all fails ill take it back to the store, but i have no faith in them fixing an intermittant problem...how annoying.
If it's new why not just exchange it?

Not enough information.
Coming out of standby, what exactly is the issue? There are at least 2 different wake issues. Screen has trouble waking, but will turn on if you try enough times or open the keyboard? Or won't wake at all, unless you pull the battery and restart?
Where did you buy it from? Are you still within their exchange period? If so, they probably aren't going to repair, but just send a replacement, which is probably a good thing. If you aren't within the seller's exchange period, they probably aren't going to help you.
Were you fully stock and unrooted before updating?
You stated you tried "most things". What does that mean? We have not idea what that means if you don't tell us. Tell us exactly what you tried to do.
What country are you in? Keep in mind, if the phone was not intended to be sold in your country, you have no HTC warranty (which is normally good for 1 year), per their terms.
Hello,
My HTC EVO 4g keeps randomly restarting and when the phone is under heavy usage is reboots. I'm going to go into a Spring store today and try and get a new phone as I have the TEP plan.
I currently have CM7 installed on my device. When I bring it in to the Sprint store, should I have the stock ROM installed on there? Or does it not matter?
Thanks for your time and answers!

Well that would suck... you're going to end up getting a phone that cannot be rooted (for now) and won't be installing CM7. What you really should do is instal the rooted OTA and see if you can hack that for a couple of days first... If not, debate how long you can put up with the reboots.
Thanks for the reply, but at this point, I really just need a phone that works.
Playing games, surfing the web, or using Maps will restart the phone.
I just need to know if they won't take the phone cause it's been "rooted".
Just in root leave s off for someone in the future

Is anyone at the Sprint store going to freak out and not take the phone back if I don't have stock ROM?
It's ALWAYS recommended to unroot and return to stock before going into a sprint store. Yes, SOME people have gotten lucky and not got caught. But if you do get caught being rooted, they will flag your phone and you will NEVER get it fixed. It literally takes 5 minutes to unroot, just do it just to be safe.
On a side note, are you sure your problems aren't related to the CM7 rom you have? ANY custom rom will have problems. You should try flashing back to stock rom, or at least a Sense rom and see if you still have the same problem.
Okay, thanks for the advice!
Yes, I have tried other ROMs, and I still experience the issue. I've tried Fresh and will be flashing stock ROM to see if that helps.
I've gotten 3 replacements, I leave them s-off and they never check that. I do however flash a stock rom first just so they don't give me any sh*t. And I got lucky last week, my replacement phone came with 2.3 on it but it was s-off. You may get lucky too
We're comin from a pure power source.
Since you're going to be stuck on the stock ROM anyway if you replace it, you might want to first try installing the stock rooted ROM from here and run it for a few days.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379
It's quite possible that something in your setup on CM7 is causing the phone to overheat. Or it could be any number of things that might have nothing to do with hardware. Before you give up a rootable phone for one that can't be, you might as well try the stock ROM first. If that clears things up, you can experiment to find the culprit.

EXACTLY! If you're having software issues and you're running a custom ROM, before even considering exchanging the phone you should revert to stock to see if the problem truly lies within the hardware itself or the ROM you are using. As far as unrooting, I would not unroot before taking it to Sprint should you have to resort to that. Just flash a stock rooted ROM and you should be fine.

So completely unrooted/returned to stock it STILL random reboots?
If so, sounds like a hardware related issue.
Yeah went all the way back to unrooted s-on, I was starting to think it was hardware related, thanks mattykins
I can confirm that this is a hardware issue. My first EVO had the exact same problem you had, and continued to get worse and worse to the point where it would cycle 10 times before actually staying on for a little bit.
I called Sprint and told them that I thought my phone was defective, and when I explained the problem they said it was a known issue and that it would be replaced free of charge.
A friend of mine is actually dealing with this very thing right now and he said that Sprint is now shuffling people off to HTC for defective phone replacements. If you are within 1 year of buying the phone it should be free, as per the manufacturer's warranty.
I also had this happen and got it replaced. Now I'm without root but at least my phone works. It's definitely hardware related.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I had the same problem, no matter the rom or kernel, it would reboot and get stuck in bootloop. I finally gave in and went to sprint, turned out it was something with the hardware that would heat up my battery and then when it got to a certain temperature it would cause it to reboot. Definitely take it into sprint.

Try anyway.
Technically you would win legally because the crack has nothing to do with the issue you're having thus the warranty is valid.
(Although I guess they could claim you must have dropped it and that could have damaged something internal)
But the worst case scenario is they say you have to pay the $100 to get a new one and if you don't you still have your phone.
The best case, they fix or replace it.
Either way, its worth a shot.
Three mornings ago I woke up to find wifi couldn't start on my phone. Nothing I tried fixed it. It's a hardware issue. Verizon refused to fix it because I admitted it was rooted. The local repair shop is afraid of breaking the digitizer if they take it apart and besides, who knows what's wrong?
This is my last straw with Verizon. I have signed up with T-Mobile. My replacement Note 4 will be here today or tomorrow. I really loved this community. Ok. I reset it back to the condition it was when I got it. I odin'd the ANI1 modem and the ANJ5 stock restore. I don't know what else to do.
I don't have the new phone yet. Probably tomorrow evening or Monday. If I can fix it and don't decide to cancel TMo I could sell it. It shows a little wear around the USB port but other than that it's totally scratch free. It was always in an Otterbox case.
But I'd love to keep using it.

Isn't that going to overwrite the Dev Ed bootloader? I guess that's ok though because it's useless as a Developer Edition anyway right? And then I can do the unlock procedure.
It failed. It wants me to do the Verizon Software Repair Assistant. It probably failed because of the hardware issue right?
Update: On the second try it flashed and finished booting up. There were only 22 apps to optimize. Wifi still doesn't work. It did lose developer mode.

We'll get DE back after you are stable. Uninstall Verizon Software Repair Assistant and Kies if you have it. To me, it looks like a USB/Driver/Software conflict going on preventing a successful flash. Try a different computer, and a different USB cable. Something is interrupting the write process.
I don't have access to another computer. Sometimes this computer does act up. That's M$ and their upgrade to W10 for you. Maybe after a fresh reboot?
I don't have the other stuff.
Update: Maybe I can borrow a computer. I don't know when though. I'll look into it.

I flashed a ton of stuff through Odin and TWRP both. Everything seemed to flash correctly with the same result every time. Wifi wouldn't work. I can't help but think it's hardware. I think it baked this jumper wire that's right between the battery and the Wifi til it broke. Too many times heating it up by optimizing apps.
