My job had a barracuda Wifi filter. I need to be connected to it to receive work emails. However, when I go on break, I turn Wifi off so I can get my social media updates.
When I turn my Wifi off, it turns back on by itself and connects to the wifi. I have turned off everything I can to make this not happen. The only solution I can find is to "forget connection". See pic attached.
Anyway to keep wifi from turning on when in range of wifi connection?

Untick Always Allow scanning. Should resolve it for you.

hi,
the data (3g/2g) is taking alot of my battery life..
i'm looking for someting like "setting profiles" that is running as a service and while being connected to wifi its automatically disabling the data (Data enabled)
and returning it to enabled when there is no wifi connection...
i didn't see in setting profiles option to set profile without data....
when you connect to wifi, android OS turns of the 3g data connection already.

As far as I know, Android turns off data when on wifi automatically without any additional software

Turns off, or just uses the WiFi preferentially? There's a difference, though operationally perhaps irrelevant.
My NS frequently shows BOTH the WiFi connected and the Edge signal indicator while I'm at home. Both green.

it turns it off. the 3g data session is terminated once you connect to wifi, and when you turn off wifi, the 3g data connection is re-established.
Agreed, it turns OFF the the 3g data. Notice that when you get on WiFi, that the wifi icon appears, and the 3g icon DISAPPEARS. This is because it's disabling the 3g since it has access to a wifi connection
this has been the default since as far as i've used Android
Hi, I have enabled Airplane mode and WiFi. However, I still cannot use WiFi at home. In particular, the device keeps scanning for network connection. After I chose my home network, it stayed there for about a second "remembered". Then, when the device started scanning again, my home network connection was disabled. Since I cannot connect to the network for more than a second, I cannot use WiFi yet. Is there something wrong with my new device? Please help.
P.S. For some reason, Mobile Network, Bluetooth Settings and Call are dimmed. I don't use 3G.
You need to turn off airplane mode, having it on blocks all network activity.

Actually not true, I can still connect to wifi when on airplane mode. If your in an airplane and there is wifi than this helps switching the phone to airplane mode than just using the provided wifi.
Anyways about the wifi, looks like it could be your modem settings if you changed them recently, if you didn't change them, forget your network on your phone and re add your network which will refresh your modem's settings. After this it should connect fine

When I am on WiFi connection for some time, data connection will turn itself off automatically and won't turn back on when I am out of WiFi range. So if I forget to turn data on manually, my email etc won't update and I have missed important business emails that way. Anyone else have this issue and what to do? Let me add that I don't have battery saving mode turned on.
This is not a issue it's a feature, turn on switching in wifi settings so when are not in wifi range it will switch automatically to data.its called smart network switch.

I switched the suggested setting on but the problem persists.
I am pretty sure this has been going on since the latest OTA update.
Definately OTA update caused it. Fa tory reset fixed it.
Hi all
All of the sudden, my nexus 4 doesn't seem to scan for any wifi network. I have made sure I turned off the aeroplane mode, turn the WiFi on, and see that wifi is switched on, but it just doesn't scan, not even when I click scan, as no any scanning message popped up. So basically I can not connect to any new network, e.g hotel wifi or airport wifi. I have tried to forget some saved but unused wifi in my phone, as well as reboot.
The strange thing is, the wifi itself seems to work, because I can connect to wifi network that it has already remembered.
Can anyone please help?
Many thanks in advance
Can anyone help please?
Every so often my WiFi won't connect to my home router. Seems to happen after i leave for some time then come back home. I can see the network but cannot connect or turn off the WiFi. The only way for me to fix it short of a reboot is to turn on airplane mode turn off WiFi then turn off airplane nice. Anyone else experience this? Otherwise the phone had been perfect.Stock non rooted.

Those issues are not the same. This thread is not qn issue of automatic connection, it is that the wifi cannot connect or be disabled because something is wrong with Marshmallow.
