Hey guys. I am on stock 4.4 and I want to flash purity 4.4. My question is, how can I backup my messages, call logs from stock and restore them on purity? I know you can't do this from 4.4 to 4.3, but can you do it from 4.4 to 4.4?

use SMS backup and restore from google play store.
I only use it to backup/restore sms, not sure if it does call logs as well.
Otherwise, you could use wugfresh's toolkit to do the backups of those things.
The latest version of Titanium Backup has the ability to perform the task you're looking for.

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased the Gs4 and excited to root again. I was looking through the forums and had some questions. Should I use Titanium Backup for restoring data or TWRP? I did a nandroid of my stock ATT rom and want to install Liquidsmooth and then restore my apps and settings on top of that. Is this possible or do i need to be on a custom ROM first then backup my data and restore my data for future updates. Thanks, let me know!
It's recommended to never backup system data only app data. If you are staying on the same Rom your normally okay with setting but I don't recommend it. I do all my apps through TB, and my device id.

Try twrp>BACKUPS>01adfafasfbbdf(some number)>Here. This is the location where your nandroid backups are stored when you make them. :good:
I'm going to be upfrading from PAC 4.2.2 to 4.4 when it releases. I have a lot of settings and apps and stuff.. What's the easiest way to backup my setting and stuff and restore them after flashing 4.4?

Hmmm...titanium backup is the best for restoring data (only) but don't ever use Nandroid backup to restore your data...you will get bootloop for doing that or you app will tend to FC...
fresh install apps will be the best solutions and use titanium to restore data...
Titanium backup batch backup and batch restore

Hey guys, needs some assistance. I just upgraded to 5.0. I made a nandroid backup before doing so but I assumed that google would backup app data. It did for most but for most but some apps the data wasnt saved. Is there a way to restore app data only through TWRP? Also when loading TWRP on 5.0 I cant see the nandroid directory I made for 5.0 and TWRP doesnt recognize my old kit kat nandroid. To clarify If i use the file manager I can see it but when selecting restore it oly shows the 5.0 nandroid I made. Am I missing something? Did the directory of the nandroids get moved from 4.4 to 5.0? I want to avoid installing the stock 4.4 image just to restore my kit kat nandroid , then backup my data correctly then reinstall 5.0. There's gotta be a workaround....help?
Nevermind. I just bit the bullet and flashed the factory 4.4 image. restored my nandroid, did a proper backup, and reflashed 5.0. Close the thread
So I'm using the normal rom and wanted to install cm14 and was totally confused about the best and simplest way to backup and restore stuff.
Then I read this in the cm blog and got even more confused :/
Points to NOTE:
– Try to avoid restoring apps backup using Titanium Backup. It may break things up.
– Don’t restore system data using Titanium Backup! It will definitely break the current installation.
– It is also discouraged to Restoring Apps + Data using Titanium Backup.
Twrp does backups safestrap also does and flashfire also makes backups also Philz touch recovery aka cwm these should all work for you

For me personally I would ignore those statements, I have used titanium backup since the past two years and have not had any issues. Although you will need to make sure you adhere to it's instructions.
I would recommend
Doing nandroids from the custom recovery before installing anything from recovery or switching to another rom, because it is a lot easier to restore a nandroid than having to, install the rom and gapps, customise the settings to your preference, reinstalling all the apps from fresh and so on. Which is great because you just continue where you left off before you decided to do a nandroid.
Use titanium backup to backup apps and data, also there are options to save your WIFI network settings and sms threads. So when you do a new custom rom / stock rom flash all you have to worry about is configuring the android settings.
