WiFi sometimes not working and requires reboot - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just updated to Android 4.4 on my Nexus 4 yesterday. I have been having problem with the WIFI. Sometimes, the wifi won't turn on unless I reboot the phone. I wonder what might be wrong with it. thanks

Getting exactly the same thing. Battery widget reborn turns off my WiFi at sleep hours so I turn on my screen in the morning to sometimes find WiFi will not turn on. It's permanently stuck on "turning on WiFi..." in the WiFi settings page.
Clean factory image install too.

How old is your router and is it 2.4Ghz or 5Ghtz? Go to Wifi and select the settings (3 dots) and then choose either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, don't leave it at auto. I had similar problem and solved it by selected the frequency that my router supports at 2.4GHz

My router is 2.4GHz but didn't think it mattered? The WiFi module on the phone won't start sometimes since flashing 4.4, and therefore doesn't see the 8 or so WiFi networks around me.

Same with me infact bluetooth also reacts same way
my phone suddenly hangs when using wifi and reboots after reboot i am not able to switch wifi or bluetooth on, no matter how many times i reboot . i even downgraded to jellybean to see if the issue is still there, my badluck the issue is persistent i wonder what kitkat did to my phone.

Wifi terrible with the Saphire update

Wow. I can't believe how incredibly bad WiFi is on the Sapphire update.
It keeps dropping connections on places I never had a problem, and won't reconnect by itself.
Anyone else noticing this?
download WiFi-Lock from the marketplace (it has the green icon), and it'll stay connected =]
I was having the same problem too.
I have no problems with wi-fi. Rooted haykuro 5.0.1Gr3 build.
WiFi lock is built in to Haykuro's builds

Both the G and H builds have an option under Settings - Wireless Controls - Wi-Fi Settings - (press Menu button) - Advanced for Wi-Fi sleep policy. If you set it to "Never" you're doing the same thing WiFi Lock does.

Brilliant!
no henchman is right also the siginal of the WIFI on the phone is crap with the H builds...used to get an awesome siginal around my house now it's 1 bar if that :/
Worked fine for me on G builds.
I haven't had any problems on 5.0.2H. I am using DD-WRT on my Linksys router.
well, I reflashed back to RC33 and it's radio, and the problems dissapeared.

Listen to him. The options for wifi connections have changed. By default it is set to drop wifi connections when the screen goes off. You have to do what he said in the menu to set it so it doesn't drop the wifi connection. There is nothing wrong with the new builds!

I found that setting within 2 minutes, when I was troubleshooting the wifi problems.
Made no difference.
Wifi is more or less useless for me with the JFv1.50 ADP1.5 ROM. It'll connect just fine, good speeds, good signal strength.. but it will hang all the time. I'll still have the wifi notification icon showing full bars, but the connection is dead. Only solution is to disable/enable wifi to get it working again, which only takes about 10 seconds using Toggle Settings, but that too gets tiresome after a while.
It's worth mentioning that I had no problems at all with earlier ROMs, like ADP1.0, JFv1.43 ADP1.1 and JFv1.43 ADP1.1H. It all started with the 1.5 update. Unfortunately the Wifi Fixer app (neither the new nor the old one) does not work either. Wifi Lock does nothing that's not already built-in to 1.5 (keeping wifi active active when screen shuts off).
Something's funky with the new radio.
Wi-fi problems.
I too have been having the wi-fi blues. No issues with prior builds. As I moved up to JFv1.50ADP1 with new radio, I started having isses. When I start wifi with toggle it will just show icon with no signal, I have to access the menu before the "connecting, obtaining IP" prompt starts. I have also noticed low signal with a Linksys wireless N 1 room away, before full signal and now two bars. Hope there will be fix soon, maybe a new radio update.
Posted in my own thread but didn't get feedback:
First: I guess you did the radioUpdate (to be found on haykuros webite?) Since then even my reception got a lot better.
I have wifi turned on all times but it goes to sleep while standby and it works more or less fine:
The problem is, that sometimes it doesn't reconnect when I turn the screen back on.
When I go to settings I find it in the state: "connection unsuccessful, please try again" and I have to click it before it tries again. That is annoying is there no way around it?

Sudden disconnections on wifi

Latley, the past two days, when I use wifi everything seams to be working fine. When I lock the screen and wait a couple of minutes the internet connection is lost. Wifi still connected but no internet running even though the net works fone on my pc.
Every app I've installed latley I deleted and I made no changes on the setting.
Does anyone has any idea how to solve that ?
Thanks

Check your Wi-fi sleep policy settings...make sure it is on "Never"
Settings -> Wireless and network -> Wi-fi settings -> Advanced (press settings button) -> Wi-fi sleep policy
yeah you need to change your wifi sleep policy to NEVER. which by the way is better for battery life compared to letting wifi sleep and switching back over to 3g for data.
I have exactly the same issue and my wifi sleep policy IS set to "Never".It didn't help at all.If anyone knows something,I'll be interested. For the time being,I don't really mind turning wifi off and then on again but anyway.

I have that problem on my Asus Transformer, which happens only, when it sleeps several minutes. One or two minutes are not enough to loose connection. Several other Honeycomb users are affected too.
I think, it's a problem with the Android Broadcom WiFi drivers, though I'm astonished, that my SGS2 didn't show this problem so far.
Both devices have a Broadcom WiFi card and it seems, that it helps to use a static IP ... it doesn't solve it completely, but it happens more seldom as it seems.

[Q] Nook Color Wifi keeps disconnecting Cm 7.1

So yesterday I tried to update my nook color rooted cm7 (not sure which version, but was used when nightly 177 was highest) to CM7.1.0-11162011-nightly-encore, but the thing is, my wifi would connect for maybe 5 minutes before it disconnects.
Then I would have to go to wifi settings to reconnect or sometimes it reconnects by itself. On my old version of CM7, the wifi was flawless. It would never disconnect like it does now, so I am sure it is not router problem.
Now it just says "out of range" when disconnecting. I tried the method where I forget all my networks and then connect again, but it didnt work. I also checked my adhoc = 0 thing from the root.
Anyone know why it is like that? I rooted my sd card with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957 website.
since my wifi didnt work, i reformatted my sdhc card and set it up again, following the rules on the website including setting up wifi before installing gapps. Wifi still disconnects.
I have also tried using the update-cm-7.1.0-encore signed, which still doesnt solve the wifi problem.
Is this because the wifi goes into sleep mode even if the screen is on? Im pretty much on the wifi setting screen, and seeing the wifi go from connected -> disconnected -> scanning "loop". My wifi is set to sleep when screen is off, but it should still stay connected if my screen is on right? It just disconnects and reconnects constantly while I look at the wifi settings
Thank you for reading! please help..
Same issue. Wifi keeps disconnecting after about 5 minutes.
Have you tried deleting all of your old wifi spots?
Ok I fixed my problem by limiting my router to 802.11 g. Suddenly no more drops.
Yea I did the "forget" all wifi networks and it still disconnects.
Would it still be my router problem if the wifi stayed connected on my earlier version? The one before I upgraded to cm7.1.0.
Hmm. I had that issue until going into advanced wifi settings and changing the Wi-Fi sleep policy to never. Will keep monitoring.
Where did you find the advanced wi-fi settings? I go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi- Settings, but my choices are: turn on Wi-Fi, Network notification, and add Wi-Fi Network.
Also, I'm using [CM7.2-RC0] MiRaGe - KANG build of CyanogenMod...I don't know if that would make a difference?
I assume you already figured out since you posted on the other thread.

WiFi not working after extended periods of non use

So what I'm finding is that if my tab sits on the charger for a long time without using it, when I go to use it the wifi icon is gone. When I go into wifi settings, it says my network is not in range. To fix it, I have to toggle wifi off and then back on, and then it gets on my network just fine.
Anyone else have this problem?
Have you tried changing the wifi sleep setting? Worked for me, I believe it is under settings-asus customizedsettings- wifi sleep settings

really odd. Outta ideas already lol. Good luck!
I had this issue with my TF101 after not having the issue for 2.5/3rds of the time I owned the TF101. Initially I thought it was the TF101 but I narrowed it down to the router.
A) I had implemented a policy on my router to restrict the number of IP addresses it can "assign" to connections. In this case it was set to then and there were more than ten devices connected to the router making it impossible to assign an IP address to the TF101.
B) It could have just been something with the router I wasn't aware of as resetting the router always fixed the issue. Though this could be explained by saying resetting the router resets all of the connections and opens up a spot for the TF.
In Android phones you can use the secret codes
If you have the phone apk installed perphas you can use this:
WLAN Test:
*#*#232339#*#*
*#*#526#*#*
*#*#528#*#*

I have noticed that when my 300 is sleeping for a while, my email will not push/ sync. When I wake my tab up, Ive noticed the wifi icon is gone, but will come back in a second or two. Ive never had to toggle the wifi however.
And yes, Ive made sure the Battery Saving setting is unchecked to not suspend network connection while sleeping.

Wifi not working randomly

Hi,
I have a problem that my WiFi network disconnects and disappear from the list. Even if I search for network it will not show up.
It looks like a lot of the other WiFi networks around me is also missing when this is happening.
It will suddenly come back again and work as it should for several hours.
I have i locked to 2,4GHz, WiFi always on, scanning is on.
Had the same problem when I used Auto 2,4GHz/5GHz.
All other devices is working as they should. Have also reset the wireless router. (Netgear X4 R7500)
I have the same problem. When I turn the wifi off, and the back on again it discovers my router and connects.
Does anybody have a fix for this?
Same problem here. My 2,4ghz network sometimes just vanishes and shows up after a couple of minutes. And it just won't connect at all with my 5ghz network. My router is a D-link dir 868l. I'm on the latest firmware. My other devices all connect just fine, except for my 6p.
Updated to 6.0.1 and I have still problems. When I come back home, I need to turn off and on WiFi to reconnect. Wifi have not dropped since i updated to 6.0.1 yesterday.
Just curious
Who is your service provider? My girls 5x is connected to Sprint and she has no problems on my network. I have Tmobile on my 6p and it keeps dropping the wifi. Maybe its a Tmobile thing?
reset network config
I had the same problem and try to go to airplane mode on and off then even forget network and add back on. Work for a second and disconnected. So far this way work. Try this.
Got to Setting > Backup & reset > Network Settings reset
Hopefully this will work for you guys too.
Good luck! :good:
My brother has a Nexus 6p and the WiFi doesn't switch on at all after he updated to 6.0.1. I reflashed factory image of 6.0.1 again and it didn't work. I then flashed 6.0 but it still doesn't switch on. Any help?
bump
Anyone have a solution to this problem? I still have this big active, and have been using mobile data since.
