Sudden disconnections on wifi - Galaxy S II General

Latley, the past two days, when I use wifi everything seams to be working fine. When I lock the screen and wait a couple of minutes the internet connection is lost. Wifi still connected but no internet running even though the net works fone on my pc.
Every app I've installed latley I deleted and I made no changes on the setting.
Does anyone has any idea how to solve that ?
Thanks

Check your Wi-fi sleep policy settings...make sure it is on "Never"
Settings -> Wireless and network -> Wi-fi settings -> Advanced (press settings button) -> Wi-fi sleep policy

yeah you need to change your wifi sleep policy to NEVER. which by the way is better for battery life compared to letting wifi sleep and switching back over to 3g for data.

I have exactly the same issue and my wifi sleep policy IS set to "Never".It didn't help at all.If anyone knows something,I'll be interested. For the time being,I don't really mind turning wifi off and then on again but anyway.

I have that problem on my Asus Transformer, which happens only, when it sleeps several minutes. One or two minutes are not enough to loose connection. Several other Honeycomb users are affected too.
I think, it's a problem with the Android Broadcom WiFi drivers, though I'm astonished, that my SGS2 didn't show this problem so far.
Both devices have a Broadcom WiFi card and it seems, that it helps to use a static IP ... it doesn't solve it completely, but it happens more seldom as it seems.

Wifi terrible with the Saphire update

Wow. I can't believe how incredibly bad WiFi is on the Sapphire update.
It keeps dropping connections on places I never had a problem, and won't reconnect by itself.
Anyone else noticing this?
download WiFi-Lock from the marketplace (it has the green icon), and it'll stay connected =]
I was having the same problem too.
I have no problems with wi-fi. Rooted haykuro 5.0.1Gr3 build.
WiFi lock is built in to Haykuro's builds

Both the G and H builds have an option under Settings - Wireless Controls - Wi-Fi Settings - (press Menu button) - Advanced for Wi-Fi sleep policy. If you set it to "Never" you're doing the same thing WiFi Lock does.

Brilliant!
no henchman is right also the siginal of the WIFI on the phone is crap with the H builds...used to get an awesome siginal around my house now it's 1 bar if that :/
Worked fine for me on G builds.
I haven't had any problems on 5.0.2H. I am using DD-WRT on my Linksys router.
well, I reflashed back to RC33 and it's radio, and the problems dissapeared.

Listen to him. The options for wifi connections have changed. By default it is set to drop wifi connections when the screen goes off. You have to do what he said in the menu to set it so it doesn't drop the wifi connection. There is nothing wrong with the new builds!

I found that setting within 2 minutes, when I was troubleshooting the wifi problems.
Made no difference.
Wifi is more or less useless for me with the JFv1.50 ADP1.5 ROM. It'll connect just fine, good speeds, good signal strength.. but it will hang all the time. I'll still have the wifi notification icon showing full bars, but the connection is dead. Only solution is to disable/enable wifi to get it working again, which only takes about 10 seconds using Toggle Settings, but that too gets tiresome after a while.
It's worth mentioning that I had no problems at all with earlier ROMs, like ADP1.0, JFv1.43 ADP1.1 and JFv1.43 ADP1.1H. It all started with the 1.5 update. Unfortunately the Wifi Fixer app (neither the new nor the old one) does not work either. Wifi Lock does nothing that's not already built-in to 1.5 (keeping wifi active active when screen shuts off).
Something's funky with the new radio.
Wi-fi problems.
I too have been having the wi-fi blues. No issues with prior builds. As I moved up to JFv1.50ADP1 with new radio, I started having isses. When I start wifi with toggle it will just show icon with no signal, I have to access the menu before the "connecting, obtaining IP" prompt starts. I have also noticed low signal with a Linksys wireless N 1 room away, before full signal and now two bars. Hope there will be fix soon, maybe a new radio update.
Posted in my own thread but didn't get feedback:
First: I guess you did the radioUpdate (to be found on haykuros webite?) Since then even my reception got a lot better.
I have wifi turned on all times but it goes to sleep while standby and it works more or less fine:
The problem is, that sometimes it doesn't reconnect when I turn the screen back on.
When I go to settings I find it in the state: "connection unsuccessful, please try again" and I have to click it before it tries again. That is annoying is there no way around it?

[Q] Wifi problem on 2.1

Hi,
on my x10 with 2.1 nordic I have strange problem with wifi.
When i turn it on it find and connect to my wifi network but after a while (when i'm not using the phone) it just brake the connection and cant connect again until i do it manually.
Any ideas? Its really annoying me that my phone is using 3G instead of wifi after some timeout.
Mine does this as well. When I have WiFi enabled it doesn't use it unless I disable it and re-enable it.
Same here
Also it does another strange thing.
When I have connected to my Home Wifi and entered my password everything is fine. When I turn my WIFI off and back on. The saved connection to my home network is shown + again my home network without the PW. Very strange.
I am on the global generic 2.1.
I got round this by setting the wifi sleep policy to "never".. uses a bit more juice but I'm still getting a full day out of it.
Play a little bit with battery saver app. It will help

I don't like them.. I've tried a few but they all caused other problems, and never really saved me much juice either.

Radio troubles

Hey guys great news on our own section! Do any of you notice wireless dropouts? I have the wifi on whenever I'm at home and it will drop out quite regularly probably once per hour. I also notice that the gsm meter will go to 0 bars when I turn the wifi on our off and on other occasions. does anyone else see this kind of behavior?

Wifi Drop-outs
Yep, I also notice dropouts. Usually it's not a problem for web browsing but it is annoying when it stops youtube playback (which often happens).
From looking around I know that there are some others that also have this problem.
I thought there was something in "settings" to switch off wi-fi sleep, or am I thinking of my Xperia X8? Certainly my Ideos X5 shuts off its wifi after a few minutes, and yes, it is annoying.
Try installing a battery power manager app from market, there might be a "wi-fi stay on" in that ... maybe THAT's what I did to cure similar behavior on the Xperia.
some people (in chinese forum) mentioned it could be due the router's (i presume u r using one) incompatibility with the wifi module..
try changing to another router may help, if possible..
others hinted that flashing the malaysian 136 rom solved this problem..
u may try at ur own risk..
Wifi Sleep Policy/Static IP - possible solution??
I had this problem while at home on the network and this worked for me:
In the advanced settings Menu of Wireless/NW is WiFi Sleep Policy in which there are 3 options:
When screen turned off, Never when plugged in and Never. Mine was set to the first one so I chose Never.
Next, Use a Static Ip - enter settings and reboot
IP settings are also on this screen along with the MAC address.
This has solved the problem for me and have certainly noticed an improvement on battery usage, an added bonus for sure.
I don't use mobile data (or try not to!!) so not sure in what way a static IP would affect that.
Great to have a forum for the X5, many thanks XDA
I've noticed that if the GSM signal drops out it can lock up both the Wifi and Bluetooth as well.
advanced settings for wifi -> never sleep works like a charm

Yep the static ip fix worked for me, thanks for that. I had done the Never sleep selection but did not notice an improvement. As @trk pointed out on Whirlpool, the static ip Fix is of limited use if you use several wifi access points regularly. I only use mine at home so it's great.
Did the OP get a result with this?
Now to tweak it so that annoying warning stops popping up about causing traffic etc.

Don't know about wifi, cause I don't use it but 3G is doing it. It just can't connect to any network, even there is very good network available. When trying manually search it doesn't find any networks. Sometimes even rebooting doesn't help.
My two friends have same phone and they says that their units are also dropping connection. They have solved it by forcing device to 2G, but I live in area where is only 3G 900MHz available.
Hope this will be solved in future updates or by coocked rom.

[Q] Wifi not turning off...

I don't know if it's only since my update to 3.1, but the Wifi Disconnect Policy doesn't seem to work.
I set it to Disconnect on Screen Off - but the pad is still tinkling away receiving email -- and still pingable across the WLAN.
Is anyone else finding this?
-Craig
Yes I'm pretty sure I see the same. It is hard to be 100% sure as the battery use data seems broken, but I've seen wireless activity almost constantly from the asus to my router when the screen is off.
I also have issues at time with connecting to a network, it loops trying to get an IP address, turning the wifi off then on solves that problem, but it is a pain to have to do that....
I use JuiceDefender to disable WiFi when screen is off. I had already bought it for my phone where I want my data to be off at night while I'm asleep, so it didn't cost me anything to use it on my Tablet also. There is a free version you can try with few settings/controls. The paid versions add additional settings/customizations.
Wi-Fi will disconnect from AP after screen off 15 mins when Wi-Fi disconnect policy is set to "When screen turns off".
It's Android behavior.
Aha! Having done more tests (and being more patient ) It does indeed turn off after 15mins..
Cool.
(Would have been better if the setting description wasn't misleading...)
Hi,
yes after further testing it does indeed seem to turn off eventually. However once it is off it seems to have problems re-connecting when you turn the device back on again. I typically have to disable/enable WiFi to get it to work. Anyone else seeing this?

Yup - on occasion. About 10% of the time. Seems to be when I move between two different SSIDs (i.e. when I get to the office, or when I return home)
Would be happy to investigate, if someone could point me at any log/debug info that's accessible...?

I get that too
I now have a widget to turn off wifi. I turn it off when the screen goes off so that it actually turns wifi off (doesn't seem to disconnect for me either), and to turn it back on when I start using it again because it never reconnects properly :S
I have the same problem too. It keeps saying trying to get an IP address. Even I have DHCP running on the router, I changed the setting of home wifi on TF to be static IP address. Now, it connects all the time when waking up from sleep.
Hope that helps (at least when you are home).

WiFi not working after extended periods of non use

So what I'm finding is that if my tab sits on the charger for a long time without using it, when I go to use it the wifi icon is gone. When I go into wifi settings, it says my network is not in range. To fix it, I have to toggle wifi off and then back on, and then it gets on my network just fine.
Anyone else have this problem?
Have you tried changing the wifi sleep setting? Worked for me, I believe it is under settings-asus customizedsettings- wifi sleep settings

really odd. Outta ideas already lol. Good luck!
I had this issue with my TF101 after not having the issue for 2.5/3rds of the time I owned the TF101. Initially I thought it was the TF101 but I narrowed it down to the router.
A) I had implemented a policy on my router to restrict the number of IP addresses it can "assign" to connections. In this case it was set to then and there were more than ten devices connected to the router making it impossible to assign an IP address to the TF101.
B) It could have just been something with the router I wasn't aware of as resetting the router always fixed the issue. Though this could be explained by saying resetting the router resets all of the connections and opens up a spot for the TF.
In Android phones you can use the secret codes
If you have the phone apk installed perphas you can use this:

I have noticed that when my 300 is sleeping for a while, my email will not push/ sync. When I wake my tab up, Ive noticed the wifi icon is gone, but will come back in a second or two. Ive never had to toggle the wifi however.
And yes, Ive made sure the Battery Saving setting is unchecked to not suspend network connection while sleeping.
