Whats going on everybody? In the next few months I am expected to become a new owner of a Sprint S4. I am coming from AndroidForums which does not have much dev support for the S4, and was told to come here. I am not skilled in major building, porting, etc..but I can do small things that help. If anybody could tell me just how everything works and how everything is, just so I could have a head start on how things go, it would help a lot. Thanks
The learning curve it's not real bad at all. Everything you need is in on xda. Just have to so a little reading.

Seriously? So touchwiz has problems on the note 2 but a now ancientish phone is recieving this update now? Thats it final straw. Bye bye note 2. Im getting a nexus!

If you like the nexus more than the awesome note 2 you should do that. I love my note even if i have to wait for the update to 4.2.2
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
If you like the nexus why don't you just put stock android on then... omg you have 4.2.2 like the nexus which has 4.3 atm but at least you'll have the second latest rom. I rather wait than get rid of such a brilliant phone.

Thank you for the extremely useful and important information. This topic was just what we all needed!
Oh, wait, I thought we were in the SII Plus forums.
It's hard to believe that he has been lurking in the forums for 4 years and still posts something so craplike.
One answer to you Goodbye, Auf Wiedersehen, до свидания, Arrivederci - don't let the doors hit you on your back
Who said about any problems with Touchwizard, it's only release schedule, new Android for Note 2 will be released about 2 months after Note 3 premiere. And will most probably be 4.3 and not 4.2.2.

Yea alright keep your hair on. If you dont like the subject dont comment. So what if I have been lurking I may not be a technical genius or a developer but I have helped a couple of people out while ive been here. Isnt that what this forum is about? Learn and share?

While we are here let's put even more metaphorical wood to the proverbial fire ... even the Galaxy Tab 2 is now getting android 4.2.2.
This is so going to anger people more for no good reason. ( rub hands and smile in an evil way ... )
So much hate for the only other manufacturer that actually does update their hardware for a decent number of Android versions if you exclude the Nexus devices.
Sure they are slow but come on what if you bought an LG or HTC , you would be lucky if your device got a single version upgrade.
we samsung customers are lucky enough compared to other brands that rarely provide updates to their phones. don't worry I'm pretty sure we'll get one sooner or later. if not I'll be selling this and my S4 and get a new one that deserves a love. nevertheless i love this note2. and my S4 but i love this note more

LOL precisely. Go on and get a Nexus FFS. I'm just waiting 4.2.2/4.3 for touchwiz features. Otherwise I might as well flash Cyanogenmod and get it over with meh. All the incessant whining here is just getting annoying. As if lot of other carriers are rolling out updates readily for their older (relatively) flagships.
Thread closed as is frankly useless.
Well guys I just wanted to get in my quick goodbye and thank you. After having a shattered screen on my N7000 for a couple months I decided it was finally time to let go. Today I got myself an at&t Galaxy S 4 and while it wasnt my first choice the luxury of a carrier unbranded device isnt an option for me at the moment. I just wanted to bid farewell personally to each and every one of you guys for the two years I spent in these forums. The community here is fantastic and if the I337 section is half as awesome, I shall be a very happy man. I know I havent been around a lot recently but I hope my time here was appreciated even the smallest amount. I also hope you guys appreciate me staying on this s****y touchjizz rom long enough to write this anyways best of luck to you all, I won't mention any names but there are several of you who I have immense respect for and who made my stay in the N7000 section and more specifically, The Asylum, as pleasurable as it was. Thank you again guys and girls. Huge love to all of you!
Mods, feel free to close the thread if you see fit, I just wished to express my grattitude

Thanks guys. I still have a spare piece of glass lying around for my n7000 so I'm thinking about trying to replace just that. Last time I tried it didn't work out so well and had to buy a new LCD and digitizer but I learned a lot from it. I'll see what I can do and I'll take pictures along the way so if it works I'll let you know how I went about it

To say how much I appreciate the help I received on my Bravo and how it made my love for Android grow. Got a GS3 and a Tab 2 10.1 today. Still have my Bravo as an international travel phone. Lots of love for the guys who developed this thing.
Memories on the bravo/defy forum
Sure thing, Gordon.

Though it's great that the Note 3 will come with Jellybean 4.3, Kit Kat 4.4 has already been announced. I see that 4.3 will be coming to the Note 2 and the GS3 sometime in October, I'm presuming to get everyone caught up to speed with the Note 3. How long would it be, before we could expect 4.4 to roll out on the Note 3? Just wanting general thoughts/opinions.

You answered your own question...
N2 is just getting 4.3... Probably safe to assume we will get 4.4 when N4 is released

The Note 3 is getting 4.4... that is all I can say
It doesn't really matter does it? If the device works fine with 4.3 why would we instantly need 4.4. Just my 2c

We can only hope...N2 still on 4.1.2

Nobody knows what 4.4 is about, nobody has much clue about GN3 performance till we start using it, and we have a thread about 4.4 on GN3. I couldn't care less about version of android as long as the phone works perfectly.
If someone is really fussed about 4.4, here's some facts:
It will take time to come to GN3, because note-series is not about latest android. It's about all proprietary stuffs stuffed into the handset.
If you want 4.4 at the earliest, get a Nexus - end of discussion.
You won't get 4.4 on GN3 for probably 4-5 months after release. You know this very well, infact everyone knows that. What more you would want to discuss here is a mystery to me. If I am totally honest here, there is nothing to discuss on this topic.
Everybody knows how this (update scenario) works, yet we spend countless time in unconstructive debate.

Moving to Q&A
A Nexus device is usually the only one to get the new OS for a couple of months. We will see devices announced at CES likely with 4.4 on them (maybe) but as to the GN3 getting it, late spring into early summer. Think April to June time frame depending on when it gets released. Verizon of course being DEAD LAST!
So at work we have recently been informed that all our phones are going to be switched to Mitel (a Sprint network based MVNO). We were all going to be given S3s unless we opted to pay for an upgrade or of pocket...The upside being we own the phone if we upgrade. I opted to upgrade to the S4, but at the time they were saying "Sprint, Sprint, Sprint" so I didn't realize we were going to be on a virtually unheard of MVNO. I've rooted every single phone I've had since I bought my Google G1 back in the day, & I love the level of control it gives me. Now I'm looking around and seeing absolutely zero information about phones on Mitel....so naturally, I'm a bit concerned. I know I can root it, but am I stuck on stock touch wiz? Or is this the point at which I get to dabble in pretending to be a developer? What kind of challenges am I looking at here? thanks in advance!

No one? Anyone?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Unless they are branded I kind of assume they will still be using sprint phone's. Therefore not much will change. I could be totally wrong though lol.
Edit: Phone's are cheap, plans are not. http://www.mitelmobile.com/mitel-plans-and-pricing/
Well they have mitel branding on them from the pictures, but I guess I'll be finding out tomorrow when I get it!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well, I thought I ought to give an update. I got the phone today, and it is a Sprint S4. Not even any Mitel branding...as far as I can tell, all the same exact phone that sprint and it.... Booklets inside even refer you to Sprint's website. It's activated but data isn't working yet. Not sure what is up with that. If it's not working tomorrow, I'm supposed to call support.
