So at work we have recently been informed that all our phones are going to be switched to Mitel (a Sprint network based MVNO). We were all going to be given S3s unless we opted to pay for an upgrade or of pocket...The upside being we own the phone if we upgrade. I opted to upgrade to the S4, but at the time they were saying "Sprint, Sprint, Sprint" so I didn't realize we were going to be on a virtually unheard of MVNO. I've rooted every single phone I've had since I bought my Google G1 back in the day, & I love the level of control it gives me. Now I'm looking around and seeing absolutely zero information about phones on Mitel....so naturally, I'm a bit concerned. I know I can root it, but am I stuck on stock touch wiz? Or is this the point at which I get to dabble in pretending to be a developer? What kind of challenges am I looking at here? thanks in advance!

No one? Anyone?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Unless they are branded I kind of assume they will still be using sprint phone's. Therefore not much will change. I could be totally wrong though lol.
Edit: Phone's are cheap, plans are not. http://www.mitelmobile.com/mitel-plans-and-pricing/
Well they have mitel branding on them from the pictures, but I guess I'll be finding out tomorrow when I get it!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well, I thought I ought to give an update. I got the phone today, and it is a Sprint S4. Not even any Mitel branding...as far as I can tell, all the same exact phone that sprint and it.... Booklets inside even refer you to Sprint's website. It's activated but data isn't working yet. Not sure what is up with that. If it's not working tomorrow, I'm supposed to call support.

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a att branded Nexus S, found one on Craigslist for $300..
I think its a fair price, Guy is local and I'm tired of my Inspire.
Reasons I would like to buy it, smaller screen size, pure aosp, battery life...
I just got the inspire about 3 months ago and will more then likely keep it..
What are things I should look for to make sure it is the real deal or just in general?
Any help is appreciated honestly.
I know I could wait for something better to come out ina few months but I don't use my phone for gaming, just purely alot of web browsing, texting and surfing forums..
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Only advantage to the Inspire is screen size. I have owned a Inspire and currently own a NS4G and I like both, but Nexus is smooth. When I buy phones I really just check cosmetic and play with it and check about phone to see what its on and browse the interwebs for a few.
Make sure it is truly the i9020a version and not the i9020t or some other variant. Otherwise it isn't truly the AT&T phone (would not work with 3G otherwise).
What should the about read besides 2.3.4 which kernal is stock etc and thanks for the replies guys keep then coming please

Does the a and t stand for the carriers? Obviously att and T-Mobile?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Nexus S phones do not have the carrier branding. Only Samsung and Google in the back.
Basically I was asking if the "a" at the end of the model number is for at&t?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Well to be honest I don't know for sure. But you would assume so or its a huge coincidence (sp).

Yes, that is what the 'A' stands for.

That I am not sure but, I told him I wanted to me up and he goes, ok my friend works downtown and ill confirm with him, I'm assuming he posted for a friendz but then goes on to say the Guy, who apparently owns his own business.
So sounds kinda sketchy to me, if a Guy can run a business downtown why can't he post his own ad?

Def sounds odd, I would look elsewhere

Get the IMEI # and call att check it. If he wont give it to you then move on! Gsm phones don't have esn they take sims and you could end up with a stolen phone and not even know it. I know here in Austin they are going for less than what that guy is asking. Just seen a white one for $260 and it was squeky clean.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
The AT&T nexus s is only $99 on contract, so $300 for LBNIB isn't sketchy--but the white ns for $260 kind of is. I say meet with the guy if you like the price, inspect for damages and all accessories, then stick your sim in and wait for that 3G or H symbol to pop up. Also make test calls and take pics to ensure speakerphone/mic/camera/etc. is working.
I just bought a LBNIB for $325, so $300 is a good deal imo.

So I just talked to him again, he sent the pictures like he said he would, sweet baby jesus she looks fine! lol
Turns out the reason he mentioned his friend was because they are old business partners and the actual seller wouldn't be able to meet me in person, because he would be at work, so he is going to give the phone to his friend, who he trusts to meet up with me.
I didn't ask the guy where he worked but his friend works downtown here and it's not to far for me, so hopefully all goes well..
So i filed a claim through asurion yesterday to replace my stolen phone and they told me that they no longer support the vibrant model and that they were going to upgrade me to a new model at the same deductible. it looks like there are no more vibrants through insurance. i will definitely miss my vibrant =(
Not good!!! Looks like ill be lookin on craigs list
Can you let us know which phone they send? Thank you.

wonder about through tmobile? i'm still within one year...might get a 4g for the hell of it.
Interesting thread. I purchased my Vibrant the 1st week when it released, and I bought the insurance. The T-Mobile rep told me that "when" they stopped supporting the Vibrant, ill get an updraged phone, if I pay the $100 bucks for the deductible. YES, they used that as a sales pitch to get me to buy the insurance.
Now, I use a G2, but my wife has my Vibrant. It will be interesting to know what they send you.

I got a new Vibrant through T-Mo just a few weeks ago. (GPS on it is great, btw.)
I think it's crazy that a year old device is already "unsupported." WTH?
yeah shows that tmobile really only cares about profits. this makes me think that the vibrant is not going to get any more updates. very sad. makes me really hesitate about buying phones from tmobile if they are not too worried about support
Yeah, the fact that Tmobile no longer supports a year old phone is the reason why I'm seriously considering buying the Galaxy Nexus out of contract even though I am not pleased with the features they released. I would much rather wait for the new Galaxy and a higher res screen but I don't want to take the risk of having support for that dropped too.
I did a warranty claim b/c my phone was not charging, i got a vibrant S and not a Vibrant 4gS....
Read my first post in detail brah. Mine was through insurance. Not warranty

I'm actually kind of bummed about the galaxy s 4g. There's no internal memory card, no CyanogenMod, and there are a lot more roms and modifications on the for the vibrant. The front facing camera is a neat addition but i hardly ever use it. I dont really see a difference as far as the 4g modem. It's pretty much the same for day to day usage for me.

As far as I can tell, there is only one version with pentaband GSM and support for T-Mobile's 42mbps HSPA+.
Also, you posted this in the wrong forum.
Hey!
Thanks for the message and sorry for using the wrong thread.
I more meant yakju and co Rom versions. It appeared that GN doesn't receive OTA updates depending on the version we have. Depending on ur version, you will get it from Google or from Samsung, and clearly not at the same pace.
I was wondering if it would harmonized to be Google only with the Nexus 4.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It should all be one version this time.
Google has gone a different route this time due to issues regarding the Galaxy Nexus release. There will be one version (for now)
Google will have 100% control of OTA updates for every Nexus 4 in the world. This time around, Google is not letting any carrier or manufacturer get in the way of their device, like what happened with the Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks for the replies.
i don't want to play the devil's advocate here but is there anything which has been communicated officially which would confirm that good news?
Thanks again.
Sent from my Xoom using xda app-developers app
I'd say you are 100% save if it is possible to buy it in the Play Store in your country. Otherwise, the situation for the Nexus 7 should be similar for what will happen with the Nexus 4. Don't know anything about that one though.
Well well... from the news I see on engadget, apparently TMobile in the US will block their subsidized phones not allowing wifi calls. To me it looks like a Tmo rom version to block this feature.
That would then confirm multiple roms for the Nexus 4.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Good thing I chanced upon this thread first. Was gonna ask the same thing. The whole yakju thing for the gnex was a pain despite the ease in converting. Nice to know that this time around, Google will keep to just one build

If you want accurate news stop reading Engadget. T-Mobile confirmed they are not including their UMA calling app. This is nothing new. No nexus devices have ever officially had it. This isn't news more like fud. They are not blocking anything on the operating system level.

T-Mobile has ZERO control over the software on the Nexus 4. None whatsoever. Google has not bothered to implement carrier-specific features like T-Mobile's wifi calling into the phone.
Recently went to a yard sale and found a Nexus S for sale $5 Guy said his kid messed it up that it didn't turn on. I thought to my self what the heck and bought it when I got home I went on XDA. It was a simple thing all I had to do was access boot screen and do a reset. Working great..
But now i have a question to any who read this. Now so far all I know is that is Sprint Nexus S but I see there is also a 4g I know its a dumb question but where would I find it. Now my new mission for the week is finding out before I start flashing Roms. So far I have a Galaxy 2, a Nexus S, hopefully soon Galaxy 4 and the phone that started my addition Galaxy S Captivate.
Any one have any good ROM,apps, and kernal recommendations would appreciate.

Why don't you go into system settings, about phone will tell you the phone model. I doubt flashing wrong one will jack it up though, just wont boot. The ns4g is CDMA network and ns is gsm, other than that very similar.

First off, not sure if this is in the right section but if its not please mods feel free to move. Also if this in anyway violates forum rules please remove.
With that said, as the title implies I need help from someone that fits the description of the title. Why? Long story, but I'll try summarizing it.
I bought a use nexus, everything works and its in perfect condition. Except that its blocked from T-Mobile. I hadn't notice this as I just recently tried activating it with them. before that I was with AT&T and everything worked perfectly. So what do I need? I would like to find someone who is willing to swap phones (same model). That only needs it for AT&T (or straight talk, etc). Like stated, phone is in perfect condition except a small scratch near the sim slot, Unlock boot loader, running Carbon ( I could put it back to stock). So please if you're willing to help me out PM me and we could work something out. Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
If its blocked from T-Mobile it was stolen and the IMEI was blacklisted. Irreversible, unless you want to illegally change the IMEI
Google is your friend there

Nice information. So is there anyway to check a used phone if it is in any blacklist?
What do mean "it's blocked by Tmobile?"
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
As in bad IMEI number, up till yesterday I had no idea T-Mobile blocked phones. My guess is that the guy who sold it to me was doing fraud, report it lost so he could get another one. Reason being is that a few days later he hit me up asking me if I wanted another one of course I had no need for it so I just disregard his message...
Anyhow, if anyone is willing to do an swap. Let me know and we could work something out.
It works perfectly for at&t or any other carrier except T-Mobile :/

My guess is no, unless you call T-Mobile and ask em about the IMEI number. So if you're planning on purchasing a use T-Mobile phone call first!

Stolen/fraud and ATT will likely block the phone soon since they started sharing their blacklist database last year.
I feel for you. I also appreciate the full disclosure. But, I think that you're most likely stuck with it. After all this is a forum full of nexus owners so you'd be hard pressed to get a someone to even swap their nexus that's on the network of their choosing for one with a questionable esn. Perhaps if you sweetened the pot(throw in some $) you'd have better luck.
With that out the way... why didn't you demand a refund from the seller? Or at least swapped for the phone he text to try to sell you? Did you even tell the seller about the fact you couldn't activate the phone?
