My wife recently dropped her Razr M in the toilet (gross, I know). The phone never turned off (I'm not sure how to do that), but I put it in some rice to try to get the water out. The phone now boots up and seems to work but the battery status is unknown and therefore it won't charge properly. Would a battery replacement fix the problem? If that's the case, where should I buy a battery? Is it even worth it or should I go buy a new phone?
I had a friend bring me an htc incredible with this issue...his baby slobbered all over it... the battery icon had a ? In it and in the about phone area battery status was unknown... A new battery did resolve the issue but over time corrosion set in and the device begin to lose functionality... captivate keys stop working proximity sensor stayed on notification led stayed on... Then the screen stopped responding to touch... with our device having a non removable battery didn't help matters..

I was afraid of that. I guess I'll just buy another one.

I took the phone apart and cleaned some of the connections with acetone. Now the battery charges and everything appears to be working. Hopefully it will stick.

Hmm.. sounds like somehow his filesystem went bye bye. Time for Factory reset if all else failed using the Recovery method. Other then that take it to repair centre and get it fixed as it MIGHT be a hardware problem
Hi all. I have a problem with charging my phone. I always leave it to charge overnight and since few days it is going weired. It says it is charged but if I reboot it it boots up on 77percent. If i plug it in it charges until 100 bu then there are some stripes going through the screen as in old TVs, after reboot still 77 percent.
When i turn it off i boots up on its own to power off charging screen and shows a sighn similar to thermometer next to battery. The phone does not feel hot at all.
I am on MIUI 1.11.18.
Yesterday changed kernel to Siyah hoping that it would help... bu it didnt.
Any suggestions?

You have to recalibrate your battery once you switched to another rom.
already done it and no change... I just wonder if its down to software or hardware issue?
I will try to flash different rom and see how it goes.
Search around the forum for this. The only proper way to recalibrate the battery on the s2 is to take the battery out and leave it out for a few minutes. Delete battery stats just in case.
This has happened to me a few times and it usually sorts itself out in the end...

I have sent the phone for repair. We will see what they say.
I did not reset custom binary count so the may invalidate warranty... we will see
Why would you send the phone in? The issue is clearly software 0_o
Well I reckon that if it was software it would be gone after full wipe and original ROM flashing.
But the issue was still there... so I ve decided it will be best to send it off for repair.
Phone came back yesterday. Although I have not received any advise note I think the battery was replaced.
It works fine now.
Strange thing they did not do any firmware upgrade...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Did they do the work under warranty?
Ricey
Yes. Its been repaired through phones 4u at A-Novo.
Custom binary count has not been reseted
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Interesting, wonder what would have to happen for them to check binary count. Probably a.full brick?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Maybe...
I used to work in old Creative repair centre and we had to flash and fully test every unit...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
custom binary counter only can be view in download mode rite?
or is there another way to see it?
It doesn't boot unless plugged into a USB. Doesn't matter if it has power to it or not. Can this be fixed and is it a known problem?

Runs on battery. I'm trading for a droidx, so its a win even with this flaw

Sounds like a hardware malfunction ... wouldn't know anything without more details

I have a fascinate with this problem. Ive read everywhere and its a known problem by Samsung. But they don't give a **** to fix it. I don't know what to do to fix it. I've tried everything I can think of and then some. Its kind of annoying because if it ever reboots without a plug in around it won't start up, just sits on a charging screen.

I had a fascinate with the same issue. I'm pretty sure I fixed it by an Odin with Repartition checked to a di01 rom, let it boot, and then reflash whatever from you want.

I had the same prob it was due to the battery. I used a new battery and it booted fine. I got a new batt from amazon not a knockoff but a $17 in packaging sold by amazon battery. Check to see if the pink moisture indicator is showing on the battery.

Mine does this at times when the battery completely dies.. I just swap out my spare battery or charge the original a bit and it'll boot

My nexus 7 was fully charged and I put it in the rack in the night. Next morning it shut down completely. When I switched it on, it showed battery 0% says 0% the same c thing happened today as well. Its a new device. Any idea??

Sure.. Here is the screen shot..

Some app or service is draining your battery. Get BetterBatteryStats to narrow it down.

I installed battery saver app.. I will check if it can do any good..

Like someone said before it's a rogue app and the only way your going to get the battery drain issue to go away is to figure out which app is doing it and then get rid of it.

I think the best solution for you is to factory reset or re-install android on your device once.
It will be easier than finding out where is the problem. as screen snap shows most of the battery is drained by "android OS".
It was just my opinion you can take it if you want.
My battery usage. Even though my screen on time was only about 2 hrs most of the battery was drained by the screen. So there music be something very wrong in your case.
I don't know about android virus but that might be an option.

Gonna follow along and disable my daydream as well since I'm having the same problem you are with it actually draining while on the charger (Stock ROM, Franco Kernel, OEM wall wart with gold tipped USB cable). Tis quite annoying to have to either keep the screen off or power down completely in order for this bad boy to charge...
Hello I'm new to the nexus 4 forms. Okay so today I traded my Galaxy note 1 for the nexus 4 and the HTC One x. I was really excited to see the nexus 4 for the first time. Upon looking at it, the screen had 3 cracks in it but the person said it still functions fine. Cracks don't really bother me that much anyway. He also said that it needed a new battery and that the phone can still be turned on/used. When I went home I plugged it in and I saw a flashing red-light. Then a few minutes after I saw the charging icon on the screen. I waited abit more and tried powering on, the battery icon disappeared and I saw the flashing red light again, I left it alone for about 30m+ and when I looked at it I saw the battery icon filling up and down but there was no raise in charge. So I started looking things up. I have tried opening the phone and disconnecting the battery on and off the board, stripping a USB cable with the + and - connections putting it on the battery for 13-15mins plugged into a laptop (I used my playstation 2), and that didn't work. What I then did is take the battery out and plugged in the charger only. I managed to get into the bootloader screen but when pressing start I see the Google word and it just shuts off. Awhile later it just got to the point where when I plug in the charger the red light blinks and stays that way (occasionally I will see the charging logo). I will buy a new battery if needed I just wanted to make sure there's something I didn't try yet, or confirm the battery is the issue. There doesn't appear to be any water damage and everything looks clean inside the phone. I can post a picture of the battery if needed. Hopefully this phone isn't dead and can be working again, I saw afew videos called the red light of death where the nexus 4 was plugged in with a steady red light appearing with no charging at all, mine only flashes so I think that is a good sign. I guess I will plug it in all night when i go to sleep hoping for it to turn on in the morning. I've also already called lg and they have horrible service... Please let me know if there's anything else I can try. Thanks!

You gotta be kidding right... Dang. So one Crack will make it not work? I mean I'm on my HTC Droid and I was able to still use it 100% normal after dropping and cracking the screen slightly.

we are talking about LG nexus 4 , not a htc. Nexus 4 digitizer is made directly on front glass.
