Appearance of app folders - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there something odd about how app folders appear on homescreens on the G2? I used to have a Galaxy S2 and app folders looked really good – a circle with layered icons inside. But on the G2 it's a boring manila square with small icons for each app – see my screenshot here

Yeah they're skinned differently that's for sure. You CAN change the manila color though. Open the folder, and tap on the name of the folder and it will open a section to switch colors

Status bar mods

Is there anyway I can change the look of my status bar without an entire theme? I'd also like to change my notifications menu and all apps screens but I care more about the status bar I'm on virtuous 3.0.1

You have to open up framework-res.apk, look for a file named something like framework/drawable-hdpi/status-background.png (not the exact name, but its similar), edit it using photoshop to make it transparent (create a new layer, delete original layer, fill it with some color, and change opacity to some %), then put this new png back into the apk using 7zip.
Push it back into your phone using adb or create an update.zip using the tool found somewhere in this forum.

[Q] [REQ] App Drawer Galaxy S Style?

Hi folks,
I used the search function but I don't know how to search for that
I was wondering if it is possible to get that colored icon background in standard Sense appdrawer like it is in Galaxy S?
For example: In our Desire with standard Sense appdrawer we have the icon for an app with transparent background, so you only see the icon itself. But I want to have the icon on a colored square matching the colors of the app-icon like in Galaxy S appdrawer.
I like this smooth appearence in appdrawer of Samsung Galaxy S, everything is clean and each icon has the same dimensions.
Is it possible to add this feature to Sense appdrawer?
Thanks in advance!
Maybe if you manually edit each apps apk with the desired background icon...but they would appear like that on homescreen too.
Why not use Touchwiz launcher? It's not too bad...but of course you lose HTC Widgets.

Touchwiz is very uncomfortable in my opinion... and editing each apk is a LOT of work!
I guess it is only a small fragment of code which places a background behind the icons in Touchwiz, but what exactly is it?
Maybe I have some time to develop something own next weekend

MIUI does it, but that's a whole rom(no apart launcher).

Launcher pro icons

I know how to change dock icons on launcher pro, but how do I change the other icons on home screen?
Thanks

you need to use something like desktop visualiser or folder organiser
When you add a new shortcut you get an option to change the icon right after selecting the app. Would be so nice if you could change icons on existing shortcuts.

With Bettercut or Desktop Visualizer.

is there a way to change the folder icon of launcher pro? as it is so boring brown
Here's a tutorial on customizing LauncherPro - lots of links to icon & dock collections there, as well as some custom Desktop Visualizer icons.

Am I right in guessing nobody found an answer?
might be easier just to use adw and get a theme that you like, it's less hassle and changes the icons for you...

Yeah I have ADW all set up and organized with the icons I like.
Thing is, I'm trying LP since yesterday and my Milestone 2 (Droid 2) feels faster and more responsive... And I'm not using live wallpapers or any other bloatware lol.
For example, when I click on a blank spot and click on 'create widget' (normal widgets, not LPP widgets) the menu for the widgets appear instantly. In ADW after I click 'widgets' it takes three seconds for the widget menu to appear.
Same thing with the app drawer, 3 seconds of black screen on ADW and instant on LPP, and I'm using the 3D mode in both.
You can change folder color by using 7Zip, Find your Launcher Pro .APK file right click, select 7Zip, OPen Archive. Drag the res file to your desktop. Click " Drawable-hdpi find the PNG folder files, should be two(OPENED, and CLOSED). Edit files with Photoshop or whatever program you desire and SAVE. Go to APK folder in 7Zip and delete the res folder. After your done drag the modified res folder back to where you originally grabbed it in the 7Zip file. Install APK on your phone and your folders should all now be your modified version. Caution you will have to un-install Launcher Pro first then redo your folders.

Game folder or widget?

Sorry if this sounds stupid but how would I go about making a games folder for all my games. I'm on taboonay so the games have all been removed. If I use a widget would that take me to a location where all games are stored, not apps screen? I've been focusing so much on performance that I've only just got around to personalizing the tab after a month of use!
Try Folder Organizer or circle launcher

+2 for folder organizer lite. Once you make your folders and add in all your apps or links I then use the widget Desktop Visualizer to make my own icons.
If you use DV, add the widget and pick the size you want. Then when you see the green outline for the app on the screen choose other, folder organizer link and then pick your folder. It looks very clean with a variety of sizes for the icons. (Before setting it all up though- Just download a pick for your icon and choose it from the gallery when your setting up the widget, or you can just use organizer lites icons)

I'm using astro to view the zip file containing the icons i downloaded but i can't see the icon image when choosing. All have the same file image so it's a painin the arsegoing throughthem all. What am I doing wrong?
Did you unzip the files? Then you have to view the images so that the gallary is associated with them. Then when you set up the DV widget you choose the icon, just have to know where to find them. They don't have to be icons from icon packs though, you can use any small sized JPEG as well.

All sweet with the widgets, how can i just have widgets with icons and no text labelling the folder. Folder organizer won't let me have a link with image only. Is this possible?
The text sayin "games" kind of ruins the nice icon.

[Solved] Lockscreen stuck in old theme and cut in half

Thx all, it's solved already, thanks
Themer is your problem.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
It's just a different Lockscreen wallpaper.
In themer most themes (if not all of them) does not modify your lockscreen wallpaper, giving the heavy customization that comes to your homescreen.
Although there is a trick to overcome this issue:
Using a file explorer go to sdcard/MyColorScreen/Themer/MyThemes/(folder with a long number)
Open Wall0.png using gallery app
Choose from the menu Set Picture as wallpaper
You should now have the same wallpaper as your homescreen.
Note that for some themes, the wallpaper doesn't always have a the same ratio, so it won't look good on your Lockscreen
