Hello everyone! After one and a half month, pretty happy with my phone, I wounder if it is pretty safe and stable to root the G2 and install custom recovery for d802 now?
And have anyone experienced any issues after they have rooted or installed twrp or cwm on their device? I am on the fence now wether to root or not..Especially since the 4.4 roms are starting to pop up
Can say that I was rooted and had custom recovery on my galaxy s2 where I used cwm recovery, but what is most stable for g2? Twrp or Cwm?
And is there a way to unroot d802 if I get hardware trouble?
Many questions, but anyways thanks for all answers!
No very dangerous. Could cause a massive G2 implosion.

Yea rooting is a piece of case. Plug plug it in and run a file.
I rooted mine day 1.
Do you know what you want Root for?
Some people root their devices and don't even need it. Most people don't need it. It is just admin rights over the filesystem.
Cool things to do with Root on a G2:
Titanium Backup
Flashify ClockWorkMod or TWRP Custom Recovery (for flashing roms and mods)
Xposed and G2 Xposed Settings
Root Explorer
TexDroider (for easily changing DPI)

Yes, you can root. Take a look at this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
Very easy.
No ROMs at this point because safestrap doesn't work with MK2.
Think so? Hmmmm. Wonder how I'm on mk2 running darthstalker X 4.3 then?

@DevilDog512 I stand corrected. What did you have to do to get that working?
Safestrap 3.70 in the android development section. Have only flashed this rom so far but have 0 issues. There's a kernelmodules.zip in that thread too that you flash just like you've been doing on 3.65. Can't adjust the system partition size but I don't use more than rom slot 1 anyway so no big deal to me. I'm sure it'll be fixed when it becomes official. Maybe today or tomorrow, but it's damn close to being ready.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it very much! But I have one more question. (I know this is sort of a noob question and I apologize in advanced) How does one flash a kernel? I have never needed to do it before. Do you use Odin?

You flash a kernel through recovery (not stock recovery) either cwm or safestrap.

Read up on the forums or you'll be using Odin all right. I would not flash any 4.3 roms if you don't know what you're doing. Use Xposed with wanam till safe strap can be perfected.

I just used Odin today. I'm on mk2 but I installed safestrap 3.70 and had darthstalker but decided I didn't really like it much.. Installed the modules and went back to stock ROM but it felt like my 4g download speeds were slow less than 1mb. So I odin the mf3 recovery files than side loaded back to mk2 because I tried factory resetting and 4g wasn't working that good.

I used the update.zip in Stock recovery to go from mf3 to mk2. Not sure how that'll work out if i screw something up. I have the mf3 stock tar files and hash has said he has mk2 tars. I figure there's enough out there to get me back up. I tried flashing every ge rom i could find to no avail. Apparently it's pretty hit or miss right now. I read that they may have found a way to flash some custom kernels on mf3. The same day i upgrade. Hopefully they can get that sorted out and we can pretend like we own our $500 phones.

I followed the link to unlock the bootloader and it says its not available. Is there a method to unlock without the option for Sony website?

You don't need to have unlocked bootloader to install custom rom. Only when installing custom kernel.

You can find custom recovery here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175
I'm afraid that so far no luck with custom roms because only ones for this device are cm or aspects based wich include custom kernel. We need developers for custom roms with stock kernel.

The rom works only if booting from fastboot due to the locked boot loader.

be careful and don`t try this. in the lg-g3 irc channel our only-hope-devs where afraid to do this because it could brick your phone forever.
i remember they said it is 50:50 chance it may work or it will destroy your device. i would be afraid to play the roulette with a expensive device like this.
this was the last info i had seen some weeks / months ago, maybe now they would say it is a 100% chance of perma brick!

Hello there,
I am currently found an interesting ROM in this forum called Phronesis Rom v3.0
(Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...om-phronesis-rom-v1-0-stable-feature-t3241910)
Currently I have an unrooted Note 3 with the Custom Recovery (TWRP). I know a root is required before flashing any custom ROMs. Before flashing this ROM, I have a few things that is not sure and want to confirm it...
Since I don't have permission to post a reply in that forum so I just post my questions here and hope someone can answer...
1. Since my Note 3 is different from the other countries (16GB version) while other countries have 32GB version, does this matter?
2. My current Baseband version is N9005ZSUGOK2. But I found the baseband version and kernel version in that custom ROM is different from mine (N9005XXUGBXXX) Can I flash this ROM into my Note 3? Will I brick my device if I'm doing so? (N9005ZSUG != N9005XXUGB)
<If the answer of question 2 is no, then skip the question 3>
3. Can I use the stock baseband version and stock kernel version (that is come from my region N9005ZSUG instead of using N9005XXUGB) after installed this custom ROM?
I hope someone can help me, thanks..
I also have the same problem

Thanks for the answer! But I'm just don't understand the concept between the Bootloader, Kernel, Baseband
1. Does Custom ROM brings with the Baseband? Can I use my original Baseband when using custom ROMs?
2. I have search some posts stated that the Kernel I've choose that need to be compatible with the that custom ROM. What will happen if I'm doing it wrong way? (Bootloop? Brick?... or anything esle)
3. Do I always need to upgrade to the latest bootloader?
