Note 3 screen freeze - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question, I am experiencing random freeze where my screen will just free, will not respond to my touches, I was on mi7 rooted it using Rdlv, then used the mobile odin method to upgrade to upgrade it to mj7 in the hope that, these freezes goes away. Afraid that the issues is still there. I think I might have to send it to the service centre. So my question is unroot the decide using sypersu method, will I be able to re root and if yes how. Secondly if they they change the montherboard, nd put straight mj7 on it, will I be abl do of root it again

You can still root even if they put MJ7 on it but you may lose knox if they put the new bootloader on it.

Factory reset it and don't install / restore any apps.

So I have experienced some issues. When I first got the phone it was stuttery and having issues with Google Music and freezing up. Next Day I factory reset it (twice in a row cuz I'm paranoid) and been a dream since. However, just last night it has an issue too. I was messing with some PSP ROM and trying to load it from sdcard. Then I started reading that A) there may be issues with the 64GB SanDisk SDcards AND/OR B)Note 3 may have some issues with indexing sdcards in general.
So if you are using an sdcard of any size, try taking it out or reformatting (after backing up ofcourse) and see if that helps. BUT for sure a lot of problems are cleared up with a factory reset. Mine is at about 95% now except for that weird issue last night.

I do not use any sd card at present

One thing i have noticed is the issue happens when there is poor signal or I have noticed that when screen would stop responding, free ram is low

Modem is DMJ7, but my boot loader is still MI7

I have today seen that the most probable issue with the freeze is my RAM is getting filled up, i used LMT pie control and from that i can see, that my ram used is always 2109MB, leaving only 333MB. I have now frozen, Flipboard, after which after cleaning the RAM, the usage is now 1928, even thought the stock ram status says only 0.99GB used. Can some please help me

AT&T Rooting and Warranty

I just picked up an s4 from att today. Ive been playing with it for about an hour and I definitely want to root the phone and remove all of the bloatware. Ive read online that there is no way to fully remove all traces of rooting this phone when needed for warranty reasons. Ive also read that att will still honor the warranty even if the phone is rooted. Does anyone have any info on this? Im experiencing a little lag here and there with the phone and am honestly not as jazzed about it as I thought I would be. If I root the phone will I still be able to switch for another phone if I choose to within 14 days and will att honor my warranty if I keep the phone and something goes wrong with it? Im in the US.
Well I had the s4 from release day,and have both root and a custom ROM.a couple weeks ago my WiFi decided it didn't wanna live no more so I flashed stock ROM through Odin and WiFi was still not working so I took my phone into the warranty center he flashed stock ROM again and it still didn't work so he just swapped it out for a new phone right there....
Long story short just unroot and flash stock ROM and you should be good to go

That can only be done if the phone hasn't been updated to mf3. There is no flashable firmware for that one.

Yes forgot to mention that .also for anybody with mf3 firmware try to get a warranty exchange if you don't mind getting back a refurbished device and there's a possibility you will get a non mf3 phone

I asked ATT customer service if rooting voided the warranty. I was told rooting does not void the warranty unless rooting caused the damage. The example the rep gave me was: If you root and phone overheats as a result of rooting, then they wouldn't cover that.

Thanks for all of the replies! They're very helpful. How can I tell if my s4 has the mf3 firmware and what exactly is the difference between mf3 and the other?
Just wanted to add that the last three digits for my baseband are mdl so im assuming I dont have the mf3 software as of yet. I have a software update available. Should I update or just root the phone as it is now?

If you want to be able to root AND flash ROMs, do not update to MF3. There is no method for loading a custom recovery for phones that have updated to MF3.
There is a thread in the General section about rooting an MF3 phone, but at this point you won't be able to flash a ROM.

New Note 3

I just got my Note 3 and the first thing I did was root it. The problem is that I forgot to perform a software update. Now when I try to update the software, I get the message that I can't update because my phone is modified. Is there a way to download and manually install the latest software update?
This should be in Q&A....mods will either delete it or move it for you.
To answer you...depending on your region the stock firmware may or may not be available for you to odin back to stock.

use triangle away to restore official status. Then update and reroot (from what i heared, ony the international N3 had a firmware update) Usually, if there was one for you, as soon as you would have connected to the internet it would have told you, unless you rooted without first connecting the phone to the internet

You can use kies to restore your phone back to stock. It will change your phone back to original status, without root. However there's nothing you can do on your knox warranty.

[Q] security update notification when connected to WIFI

As i have been using only mobile data for days since my upgrade i find the message in the screenshot weird since i connected to WIFI. I tried searching to no avail.
What happens is when this message is displayed my WIFI disconnects.
Can anyone help me how to disable the message?
Btw, i'm using i9505 stock non-rooted 4.3
Cheers!

Same problem here.
I searched for this security warning and it seems to happen when toggling wifi on/off or the phone tries to connect to a open network when in standby.
Some reports say a factory reset can fix this issue, but I did that after I flashed 4.3 BTU and I still get the warning. Another possibility is to clear data and force close Knox notifications, but this won't last.
Maybe the only way to get rid of this for good is to root and remove all Knox crap.
Although, this leaves a question. Why is my phone trying to connect on itself to open networks ? I have turned off location service.
This is very shady business practice from both Samsung and Google. After all , I own this damn phone, I didn't payed 600 Euro for a spy tool on behalf of Google.
Guys, heard anything or any new update from Samsung about this issue? The warning message is really really annoying.

Wi-fi security error message
I am also getting the same security warning when toggling Wi-Fi on/off or when roaming. I am not using Knox, at least I haven't installed the main app as yet. Phone stock S4 gt-19505. I haven't done a factory reset since upgrading to 4.3 as some have reported that the problem still persisted.
Does anyone have a fix?

My problem is even worse. After receiving ths notifications, my wifi just died. It does not turn on anymore.

New software = New Problem

I received notice of the update to my Note 3 last week. But because my Note 3 had been perfect in every way so far I did not really want the update. But there seemed to be no way to refuse it permanently. I finally got tired of constantly dismissing the nag screen and today went ahead with the update.
Unfortunately the phone now randomly reboots itself. I pulled the battery for a few minutes and that does not seem to help. It has done it a few times in the 6 hours since I updated. Seems random with no set time in between. Once was only a few minutes before it did it, another time it was good for a couple of hours before it did it. I had a perfect phone and now this! At least the reboots have not happened when I was in the middle of something. So far it has happened when the phone was just sitting idle on the desk with the screen off. I would just notice it rebooting by itself. Another time I took the phone out of my pocket and looked at battery use and it said something like 4m 30s on battery and it had been in my pocket for over an hour while I was using some power equipment so it had rebooted at least once while in my pocket. I plan to remove the battery overnight and see if that does anything.
If you have a SD card, try removing it for a couple of days to see if the problem goes away
Flash stock.

Just flashing wont prevent OTA notifications from showing up once there is a new update. They will only show up when the is a new update, which could take a while.

Need help locating and solving a problem

So, my rooted N3 (running latest Crash Rom) has tge following problem: The ear-speaker (the one you hold your ear against while on the phone) has gone completely silent. The only way for me to call is using the loudspeaker. Or, and this is where it gets weird, using headphones.
I say weird, because the headphones jack and the ear-speaker are the same replacement part (so I guess the connect using the same wires too)
I went to a repair shop, they switched out the part, but even with a new part it disn't work. (They put back in the old one which saved me 70€)
They suggested it was a software problem and I should try to do a factory reset. I did just that but still using Crash Rom subsequently. I'm not saying it's a Rom or Kernel problem, a friend who works ar Orange even suggested it might be the motherboard or something.
The problem is, the phone is rooted and afaik the Knox counter is tripped.
Is there *any* way for me to either pin down the exact nature of the problem, or, go back to exact factory specs so I can claim guarantee (I guess that's not possible)
I'm not *too* knowledgeable as far as all this is concerned, unfortunately. I can follow rooting instructions and never bricked this phone (or the N-7000 I had before) which is more than most people I know can do, but unfortunately I'm still nowhere near an expert as most people here, hence my call for help.
Any ideas?

You can easily browse the firmwares and get the download links with this app:
Phone INFO ★Samsung★ > Menu > 'Firmware Browser'.
Well I reinstqlled firmware via Odin. No change. Speaker still dead
And Knox says Warranty void 0x1
Well... since going back to unrooted stock didn't solve anything... might as well root again.
What's the latest safe way to root and has anyone got any recommendations for a good ROM. I liked Crash ROM but I'm open for something else, as long as it's STABLE, UNBLOATED and CLEAN. No need for a gazillion bells and whistles, I need stability and maybe the possibility to center the clock on top, add circle battery and date
