Clicking sound/noise when turning off camera - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Is it normal that my Nexus 7 makes a clicking sound/noise when I close camera applications or switch from the back to front camera?

I'd say so. Mine does it, I believe it's the mechanical focus lens returning to it's home position.

Also: is your front camera not aligned exactly in the center? Mine is more on the bottom right, still works perfectly.

Yes, that's how it is designed, so that when it's held in landscape (turned to the left) your hand won't cover the camera.

I'm talking about the actual lens where the hole is. Not the alignment of where it is on the screen.
The lens on mine is on the bottom right in the small hole.

In the hole where the camera lens is, is your lens placed not exactly in the center?
My lens in the whole is on the bottom right, doesn't effect camera though.

Apologies for the misunderstanding.
It is ever so slightly to the right of centre on mine. If the image quality is not impacted there is nothing to worry about.

Yes - my bad. Mine is placed on the top right - a bit off center. Yours is like that too?

Yeah it's slightly off centre.

I have the same sound on my N7, my Nexus 4, and I had it on my LG Optimus 4X HD as well so I sure do hope it's normal

I've seen them perfectly aligned and off centered, just the luck of the draw.
Regarding the noise, some are more prominent and others you have to put your ear near the tab to hear, but they all have some noise.

[Q] Defective camera or debris?

Had the Note 4 a bit over a week now and I just noticed something with my camera.
The rear-facing camera always has a small black spec 'stuck' on like there's some debris stuck to the camera. It's not removable by any means... at least without opening up the lens. I can't tell if it's a defective camera or some manufacturing debris from the factory. I don't see how it could've gotten in there from me since the camera is sealed. To state the obvious, yes I've looked at the outer camera cover and done all I can to see if it's removable but it's not. This is probably inside the cover either on or between the lens and the cover.
The spec is only visible at 0% magnification up until 1.4x magnification. Anything above that, the debris is gone from the view. Here's some pictures and a video I took on a white piece of scratch paper. Used the S-Pen to point out the dark spec in red color. This does not move. Always in the same spot relative to the upper lefthand quadrant of the phone display.
So is this a defect or debris? Wondering if I should just take it back to Best Buy for a replacement.

My guess is, that if it was a debris, it would be out of focus, since it would be too close to the sensor. Usually debris looks like a flare and it looks round. Your's looks very crisp. I noticed in your video, that when the camera is focusing, that thing stays perfectly visible. So I think it's a problem with the sensor itself. Like a portion of the sensor cant capture those pixels.
I would take it back and have them change the phone asap.

I think your guess is correct. I stopped by Best Buy on the way home and the Samsung rep said pretty much the same thing you mentioned. They'll replace it, I just gotta go back with the original box and everything to get it replaced.
Thanks!

If you can, open the box in front of the Samsung rep, to check for any scratches on the aluminum bezel. Mine arrived with two pretty big, but I was to bothered to go get a replacement. Also make sure the home button click sound is normal and not loud. I ve heard some people complain about that!

Is there a plastic film on the camera lens?

Hi all, I know it might sound stupid, but is there a plastic film on the edge plus camera lens?
I'm used to find it on every new phone I get (it was present event on my last note 4 and galaxy s6), but looking at the camera lens of my new Galaxy s6 Edge Plus...it doesn't seems to be any plastic film. I was only able to spot and remover a tiny plastic film on the flash sensor. That's it. Am I right?
Thanks in advance
Mine was same as yours. I looked with magnification and found nothing on camera.

Same here. I had one on the flash but nothing on the lense.

There was one on the flash/HRM, not on Camera though!
Anyone have their camera slightly off center? First Samsung handset and not sure if the camera underneath the lens should be centered? Mine is slightly below center, a non-issue but still curious.

It's due to OIS. If you hold the phone in selfi position with rear camera and keep trying different focuses and shake, you'll see your camera hole moving accordingly..

Some left-hand blur .. how much before I should get my Z5 replaced?

Just got my Z5 and loving it ... except the unit I got DOES seem to suffer from some left-hand blur Kind of sad since when I was testing the unit in the store there didn't seem to be any problem (probably I was looking at around the middle part or probably because I was only using the brochures there as my test shots). Granted, I did come across and pass 2 units that had worse and more obvious blurs than the one I have.
Here are links to the image (right-side up first, then upside-down): http://imgur.com/a/gc1qI
The blur is seen near the top-left corner and also a little bit on the bottom-left corner. This can be seen by observing the leaves and grass. Seeing as the blur is only on the left-hand side, I'm guessing it isn't just due to the wide lens?
I'm a bit troubled if I should have it replaced or not since as mentioned earlier, I came across units with worse blur. Should I have it replaced? Is there really a Z5 / Z5c there with 'perfect' lens with no blur?
Thanks everyone!
They look normal to me, TBH. I could show you pictures from couple other phones with this kind of 'slight' blur. We're talking landscape shots here - not macros. The third one does have some blurs but I could see blur across the whole edge & few other spots (proly due to moving objects and/or shaky hands). But it's your call anyway

Oh really? Probably I'm just nitpicking but it doesn't hurt to be safe. To be honest, my Z1 has a much more pronounced blur than this which I didn't really notice until now when I tried comparing it and looking at the photos carefully.
Thanks for checking it out!
Bro it is software default not hardware because if you turn the phone 180 degre you have the same point blurred . It is focus fault waiting to new update in the coming days

Sure it's a software problem?
Not a misalignment lenses?
It doesn't look it has blurring -- the slight distortion on the corners tend to be an effect of wide angle lenses

I will buy the Z5, but I'm afraid that blur problem they are talking about! I do not know what to do! Some say it is software, others say it's normal ...

Some are very obviously not normal -- the OP in this thread, his camera is fine. I have no idea if it's software or not.

Thanks I can relate because I also had a Z1 that had blurring and didn't realize it till I was comparing its shots with the Z5. I was surprised since I was using it and the camera quite happily for almost 2 years and thought it was normal.
Lucky me I guess for getting a non-defective camera on my Z5

That camera module is damaged. You can see the black lines across the image. If not by factory fault then that can happen if you expose the camera to direct sunlight for to long or IR light like the strobe/laser "cannons" in some concerts and clubs. If that hits the sensor directly then bye bye..!
I took a picture hoping to check if I have the camera blur. Can someone help out? The blur on the plant on the right side is caused by taking the pic close to it. I tried to take it at 180 degrees (2nd pic) but I didn't manage to take a pic close to the other one.

Misaligned Front Camera S7 EDGE

Hi Guys,
I purchased the Galaxy S7 Edge from Uae and now I am back in my hometown.
unfortunately my phone is only a month old and i just noticed that the front camera is misaligned by 1mm or so, you can see more of the black ring and the lens of the camera is more towards the right.
Although the camera works perfect and there are no problems, should i be worried?
I am extremely worried as the phone has no warranty in my country .
Mine is a bit misaligned as well. I wouldn't worry about it as long as it works as it should.

Thank God that is such a relieve as I don't have warranty support in my country and if i go to a service center they are known to rip customers off by selling unwanted parts especially to phones without warranty.
Is this normal, I saw this on other devices and some were aligned correctly?
Could you please share a picture of your device if possible?
Yea dont worry about that. I believe most are like that people just dont look that hard at there phones.

Yea its just a bit off on the bottom of the camera.
You gotta look real hard to see. But its there. Doesnt effect anything since it doesnt cover the lense.
Same here i can see that theres much room on the bottom part of my front camera, but its working fine.

By room you mean the black part correct? As I can see more of the black ring which makes a gap between the lens and the outer ring but again mine is on the left side and not bottom so is that okay?
Yes. Its like the hole in the top glass was cut to big and off ceneter.

The black one is mines. It has a screen protector on so thats the top offset.
But if you look at the black trim you can see where on the buttom of the camera it has more space then the top as its off center
My wife is the sliver one.
I did my best to take a picture of it. You can see how hers is center.
Either way it dossnt effect the camera.
And fyi these pictures were taken with the phone lol.
My nikon battery was dead.

Thank you so so so much for the pictures.
Mine is somewhat just like yours, I am glad that I'm not the only one.
Your wife's camera also looks a little misaligned from the right or I don't know if its because of the picture.
It's just ironic that a phone with such a hefty price, one would expect some quality and tolerance?

Is my S7 Edge Defective?

Hi Guys,
I have A Gold S7 Edge and I have noticed recently that the front camera of the device is a little off.
The lens is not centered but the main part being misaligned is the position of the camera module itself.
As you can see in the picture, the black rim around the camera module which is supposed to be even is not even, it is more thicker at the bottom and relatively thinner at the top which makes it look like it has an ugly gap at the left side and bottom side.
Am I being OCD about it or is it really defective?
Please tell me it is normal as from the 2-3 devices that I saw in a store the black rim around them were even so I don't know if it should be this way :/
Yep, me too. But to tell you the truth... I've never realized until I saw your post. Not going to lose my mind for it. But, I've attached a picture to let you know you're not alone, hahaha. Cheers!
As long as u can still take clear pictures its not an issue

I can't notice the black rim in the picture since your phone is black too.
Is the rim even or does it have a gap on either of the sides?
Having said that i case in my scenario since my phone is gold, the gap of the black rim is more evident

Are you referring to the camera lens or the module as the lens being up or down is pretty common while the whole module being off centered is rare which then creates a black gap, so which one are you referring to?
