I'm still on 4.2 but other than the WiFi mode have you tried the USB and Bluetooth modes? Also, every now and then I'll turn my FoxFi on but it won't work - as in, it turns on but I can't connect. So I turn it off, turn on/off wireless, sometimes do a soft reset and turn it back on and it works. You might have to clear the cache/data and start clean.

Have you updated to 4.3 though?

I have the galaxy S3 on ATT. Foxfi was running fine on 4.2.2. When the 4.3 upgrade was pushed through, Foxfi stopped working. I went back to my S2 which I fortunately hadn't sold yet, until either Foxfi comes though with a fix or I can find a way to roll back Android 4.3

Two phones updated, FoxFi quit working on both phones.

On my s4 stock with 4.2.2 my bluetooth and usb tether barely work and are unstable.
I am currently trying to get it to work on 4.3 google edition because I don't wanna lose my MDL.
So far it's going horrible, but as soon as I use my s2 it works perfect. So lame....
Going to mess with the settings under 4.3 and then if no luck try the built in features in the rom.
Why not just use the rom? Because I love the fact that if the app works, I can carry it between roms and phones.
For the amount of money foxfi asks for and how popular the s4 is, they really need to get ontop of that and fix it. Seems like with every release things get worse or more unstable.
Nothing against foxfi they have been a great company in the past, presently they just are not on top of their game.
If anyone figures anything out let us know.

Stunning that this can't be figured out. While they specifically disclaim any guarantee of continuing functionality, you would think they would redouble their efforts and put out an update. I'm going to write support ([email protected]) and see if they have any plans or ideas.

I've rooted my s4 and added the tethering apk in this forum. Now foxfi works again. But not as intended (Un rooted)

[WORKAROUND] Bypassing Tmobile's Anti Tethering Policy

Recently Tmobile finally started filtering their data and are attempting to prevent all users no matter the ROM or software on the phones from tethering their laptop to the phone.
As soon as you tether and try to view a webpage on your laptop, you will get redirected to a sales page, where TMobile tells you that you need to purchase an additional feature for $15 USD a month. This is outrageous considering you already pay for a certain ammount of data per month, and as long as you remain within that they are just being greedy and are nickle and diming us.
The workarounds / bypass are detailed here:
http://benbuchacher.com/posts/2012/06/bypassing-tmobiles-tethering-filters.html
Using CyanogenMod 9 I tether just fine...
This just started today for me Ive tethered since cupcake just fine.. There are other reports too using Cyanogenmod or any other ROM will not help you when this rolls out to your area.

Cm9 here too, still blocked though
We ran into this problem several months ago but were using the LG Optimus T phone for tethering. It ran fine for a day or so and then we started getting the Tmobile message screen to upgrade. We had plenty of gigs left and couldnt figure out why we could no longer tether. We are heading on vacation next month and this will hopefully help us bypass Tmobile's junk. Haven't tried our Galaxy S2's yet so we may be worried all for nothing..
UPDATE: Tethering works great on the S2 thru Tmobile,.,,Hotspot does not. Got a screen on my phone for Tmobile to sign up for it monthly when I searched the Help link...laptop is asking for a Network Key to access the Hotspot...
Try the ClockworkMod tethering app.

HOW DO I TUNNEL!?!?!??!
I didn't have any trouble using USB or wifi tethering on my bone stock galaxy nexus, but they might not have rolled this system out back then. This is definitely good information though, the wife wants to use this when we're out on business.

You need a Virtual Private Network or VPN. I can't post links so you'll have to look it up yourself.
So I have a question for you guys...
I understand that I need to switch the user agent on my laptop when tethering, but what about when I tether to something like a Roku box or a Playstation 3?
The reason why only some people are having problems with the tethering is because T-Mobile is including hidden APN settings in the new software updates and the software on new devices. These hidden APNs helps T-Mobile detect tethering. Go to this thread to see what I mean, also you can PM the OP and he can tell you exactly what he had to do, I think he had to decompile the framwork, apk or framwork.jar one and remove them from there I can not remember exactly.
Edit:
GROGG88 said:
I will gladly discuss it here... Both Elegancia 3.0.0 and version B of my rom are using resources from 3.32.401.105 in order to achieve two functions:
1. Unlock APNs
2. Provide leedroid tweak compatibility
The only problem with this is the fact that they are no longer "true tmous builds". I refer to them as "franken-builds"... I have not gone through all the differences between framework-res, systemui, framework.jar, services.jar, etc... but I can tell you that certain small bugs have been reported with the xe build that others have reported as fixed in the official tmous version.
The APNs are written to apns.xml within the framework-res.apk. This is why we used XE components to unlock the APNs at first. You can distinguish what roms are built this way by the framework version:
TMOUS: 20120412.202737
XE: 20120321.232857
My unlocking mod is the stock TMOUS framework-res.apk, but it has the apns.xml from XE. This ensures that the rest of the rom stays in tact and that no bugs will be induced by mixed resources... I've also included this mod as an option during install on version A of my rom.

Just so I am clear...the way T-Mobile is doing this is by seeing the user agent of the browser. Since I tether my Galaxy Tab Wifi to my Gnex from time to time I should be in the clear correct? Since I am not using a browser on a laptop, but rather on another Android device.
Thanks for the post, will try this out
Wait...so what if I use a desktop user agent from a mobile browser to grab the full page. That's going to get blocked as well...?
I got that problem with my new Galaxy S2... luckily the rom I flashed took care of that problem.

Just tested. It works on almost all of the UserAgents becauses Chrome/IE/FireFox.. Hell IPad even works. You should be fine for now. I hope they stick to this solution instead of going to more preventive measures because this is easily bypassed.. My Skype/Steam/Trillian/AIM/etc all still connect perfectly even without bypassing because it's only blocking Desktop useragents. The stupidest part of this is requesting the desktop version of sites like on the Google Chrome Android browser results in the blocked page as well.. :|

None of your updates have been from T-Mobile. All those OTA updates came straight from Google. One of the things that ended with the nexus s was that the carriers weren't allowed to really touch the phone at all. As such, T-Mo never sold it in their stores. You could get it at Best Buy, etc, but not at official stores.
I believe this only works if you bought the device from T-mobile right? since i can tether on my iPhone just fine (althought on 2G/EDGE) I can't confirm it with android though, but if they are ruling this all over the network we're gonna have a bad time.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is with T-Mo-sourced devices specifically (as in, you got it at the T-Mo store or it has the T-Mo logo on the phone itself).
Also, nice South Park reference. ".....you're gonna have a BAD time!"

Is RoamControl fully working on the S4?

I was just wondering if roam control was working now on the Sprint Galaxy S 4. When I checked a few weeks ago people were still having issues.

I use it everyday flawlessly.
It didn't work for me. I had to return it. It would switch my radio off.
It is very hit or miss on whether it will work for you. Mine works so so. I hope that someday it will work 100%. I really miss the Evo LTE MeanBean rom that had force roam integrated into the rom and worked 100% of the time flawlessly. On the S4 it is kind of a .... hope it will work when I need it.

I'm running the 56015 PRL from here so I can get 3G service on Verizon when I go through a dead zone. I installed it a few weeks ago btw, I only installed RoamControl this morning.
So I finally rooted my phone last night and installed RoamControl this morning. So far it's working great - I'm able to switch between Automatic/Home/Roam and it's changing reliably. It's also much faster than my EVO 3D (retired 3 weeks ago) ever was but that's probably due to the faster phone.
I did have to reboot the phone, set RoamControl's phone selection to "None", set it back to Samsung S4, until it started working reliably. When I tried it just after installation it didn't do anything at all.
56015 prl and yes its been working great for me.

Oh, my goodness. Thank you so much for this! I had been unable to get RoamControl to work since I got the S4, and went through radio updates and a few versions of RC. Simply setting the Phone Manufacturer to "None" and then back to "GS4" worked, and now I have solid control over roaming. Amazing...
EDIT: I spoke too soon. This technique got voice roaming/un-roaming working, but broke all data until a reboot... After which RoamControl was back to having no effect. What a bummer.

I'm running into the same situation: voice/sms are fine but data gets flaky or completely stops working until a reboot. I can live with that until the author can find a fix - my plan is to reboot after switching back to auto. I need RC infrequently so this is an acceptable tradeoff for what it can do.

[Q] kitkat and LTE

I'm just curious if anyone has successfully enabled LTE running the official 4.4 from google. I decided to try the pure nexus experience when the N4 went on sale, and considering I upgraded from a Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile to the N4 on T-Mobile it was like getting out of a Ford Pinto into a Ferrari. I have to say the delay on the OTA update and the lack of LTE support from google with a phone that has the chip in it is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth though. I like the phone and want to keep it, so if anyone can confirm that having both 4.4 and working LTE is possible than I probably will.
Stop whining about slow OTA, it's still going to get updates sooner than other non-Google devices. (MotoX is a Google device.) Or if you want KitKat now without willing to flash the factory image, either sell the Nexus 4, buy the Nexus 5 or sign a 2 years contract with Verizon and get their bootloader locked Moto X.
Google will not enable LTE for the N4, that will require a FCC homologation.
You can manually enable LTE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412052 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358931
If you need instruction on how to flash it, follow 2nd link root guide in my signature.

Try following the directions at the link. The second to last page has people people stating that they got LTE to stick on 4.4. I haven't updated to 4.4 so I can't confirm. I prefer staying on stock rooted, but I don't like the icons in the notification bar going from blue to white in KitKat(I prefer blue, lol). So i'll probably be on 4.3 for a while

[Q] L720T wifi Tether Help

HI
I have a Samsung galaxy s4 from sprint and i have rooted my phone using odin. when i tried to use a tether app it would work.
My phone model number: SPH-L720T Android Version: 4.3 Build number ends with MK5
Can any one help me out?
Thanks.
I was on MK5 and since OTA'ed to NAF.
I purchased a tether app from the market for about 2 bucks.

I tried every wifi app, and nothing worked except the one I purchased.

Thank you VandyCWG, this app works very nicely. It is worth the purchase.
Very nice. Sincere thanks. I was getting worried. Now, i can be patiently and wait for roms for the 720t. That app and Xposed is satisfying me huge. Root worked fine for MK5. Philz worked fine. Works well, and fast. This is probablly the only reason why i would want to keep Spark. I can clearly see a different in speeds vs. my wifes S3 also running 4G LTE. (not spark)
Thanks man

I had my first taste of spark near Nashville last night, 45 down, 15 up! Blown away! I am ok with a rooted, stock system. I have tether!
i've been working on this tether thing all morning. i've read tons and have followed every thread. i have sprint galaxy s4 4.4.2 NAF. it's rooted, and i downloaded the wifi tether router app that was recommended. everything is installed. when i run the app (enable router) i get the network name: WiFiTeher-AP and network key: abc123456 in red. there's a dialogue box at the bottom for received and sent data- both read 0mb. i have two computers with wireless receivers and the tether network doesn't appear on either. i've refreshed and waited, but to no avail. everything looks like it's working correctly, but i can't get the tether network to come up on my network list. so, where do i go from here?
frustrated

If you're on verizon, no... In fact, to the best of my knowledge, even if you're not on Verizon a custom ROM with room hasn't been released yet.
I tried a NUMBER of different apps to create a hot spot with zero luck. Tethered via BT was the best option without root.

I can't really say. Phone had 7.0 when I got it. All android versions run together for me, tbh. They always say the new one fixes all the issues with the old one, but I can never really tell a difference. Been around since 1.6/Donut.
O alright. Well thanks for your help. Guess I'll give it a shot and hope for the best
Alright so there was one update in between the version I had and a second 7.0 that wouldn't let me do it. I'm on the one before the volume fix that I'm assuming just came out and it works. I'm not gonna do the next one as I need the hotspot feature so if someone wants to confirm on the latest then they can update the thread.
