IE, by getting a text/notification on their phones and not downloading from the link...can you please post where you are and approximately when you received your notification?
I just want to see if there's any kind of a pattern.
I think some of us prefer to just wait for the notification, rather than download it and have to jump through hoops for one reason or another, and those that haven't gotten it are probably wondering why and when they might.
Thanks in advance.
I'll second that, but my theory is that the server might be going by date of purchase- oldest first... I got my G2 just shy of 2 weeks ago, live in CA and nothing yet-
Just download it and put it on the phone. There are no hoops... it's super easy.
you can follow the instructions in my OTA thread (which was apparently moved to Android Dev.)...
I was going to wait for the OTA update initially but I came to the conclusion that it was going to take a while before I received it...so I updated manually.
Very simple process, nothing can go wrong & you'll notice a great performance boost in the phone itself.

I agree took maybe 10 min to do it all.
i just did mine manually why wait till u receive the update.
in terms of finding out if some1 in ur city has gotten it and what not... as far as i knew from the g1 updates, they were sent out randomly. it didnt matter if u were the 1st person in the world 2 get the phone or last.
this is what i have heard and read from my g1 days. supposedly it was a random thing.
Just got mine about 5 mins ago....Long Beach, CA.

I got mine yesterday... very early. I preordered the G2 so... there might be something to that guess of date of sale. Who knows though? really, just download it from the link. Any newb can do it in like 10-15 minutes. no need to wait...
Its completely random. My wife and two friends got theirs on different days. I just said f it and manually updated

Got mine this morning Friday mornign around 8 or 9am in metro Atlanta
Can't you use the CHECKIN code to force the OTA? My wife just got the G2 a couple days ago, I did the checkin, and within minutes she received the OTA.

If I were T-Mobile, I would actually try to *ensure* that the OTA goes out in a geographically random manner. Geography would be the one of the *last* places I would look for any sort of pattern. It's probably done via IMEI #s.
When I checkin it just says it checked in and that's as far is it goes.

I checked in many times and it doesn't really help unless you have been out of service or had the phone off... it will come to you when its ready checking in doesnt really help any in my case... I checked in over and over and over... this morning on the way to work the update just came... made my morning!

It won't notify you of the OTA until it's done downloading it. To see if it's downloading, go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates. If the checkin works, you should see it downloading there.

This morning I woke up about 10 minutes early by a faint light on the floor, it was my screen on full blast lol, with the words, "Upgrade radio etc etc blah blah." O went ahead and click yes and accept and about 10-15 minutes later it was done.
Havnt noticed anything yet, I hope my once every 2-3 day radio loss will stopp happening. Ill drive home and when I get home my radio will be off (no reception) and airplane mode if off also, nothing has been triggered. Only way to get reception back is to restart. Since it only happens once every 2-5 days I dont consider it a big enough deal to bring in. Especially since i dont have dead pixels and i have a strong hinge.
Ok so my phone was bricked and Ive been trying these past few days to fix it with odin. Odin doesnt work on my computer though. Today I connected it and odin started to work and it started to flash, it got to the factoryfs part and then froze, so I disconnected it.
Now my phone won't enter download mode and it won't turn on anymore.. what can I do?
EDITL: So i got into the sprint store and tell them that some update made my screen turn off and it wouldnt turn back on/nor charge. They were working on it for like an hour then they came to me and said that i have to pay 35$ then i can pick up a new one on tuesday. Yay and I was able to ad insurance because I didnt have it before.
I'd try just taking it back to Sprint and tell them that you were performing an OTA update and it just died in the middle of it and you don't know what to do.
Is your battery charged? Because it should at least power on

Im not sure but it doesnt charge even if I plug it into the wall =( And yeah ill try to go to the sprint store tomorrow, if they question me about rooting should I deny everything? Can they check if the phone is rooted?
Yeah, just play dumb and act like you don't know what happened with it, and it just went blank during an OTA update. They can't see if the phone is rooted or not as far as I'm concerned, but if you bring it to a Sprint repair shop, I'm pretty certain that they won't know.
Actually just try pulling the battery for 3 minutes, then download mode should work, then re-odin...This has happened to me 3 times, really thought it was bricked the first time.

I did that and nothing happens, it doesnt charge anymore i think. Im pretty sure its hard bricked now :/
The Sprint store is going to try another battery first before they throw the towel in on the phone. If that doesn't work then yes play dumb and do exactly as previously stated by @brianhuangbh.... "Was doing an OTA and it just froze". Good luck and let us know what they said

same thing happened to me, that i ended up getting another phone. anyway i was fooling around with my brick epic when i decided to put in a fully charged battery in. nothing happened but i noticed after a while that the phone was warm. i pulled the battery then waited a couple of minutes then put it back in and held the power and 1 button and what do you know, it went to download mode. i used Odin CORRECTLY this time and now it works. when using odin make sure reboot is the only box checked and that u start Odin first then plug the epic in.
So i went to the sprint store and everything turned out good
Awesome congrats hopefully the new phone doesn't act up on ya if you decide to root lol

Im gonna stay away from rooting haha, came too close this time. Plus my computer refuses to co-operate with odin so i cant unbrick it.
Good stuff if u do decide to root feel free to pm me if u have questions. The people of xda were very helpful to me so I'm returning the favor lol.

So by "I have it" (in the thread title) you mean "I think I'll get it because some clueless T-Mobile rep said I would"?
Yeah... let us know how that works out

If your imei gets pushed ahead, and that means you will receive froyo in 48 hours, that would mean froyo is starting today or tomorrow. That's the part I don't believe. Samsung is leaving us with a phone with broken gps, if they won't even make our phones work why would they bother with software? Samsung obviously couldn't care less.
I know samsung sold a donkey load of SGS phones, but I want to know how many of those purchasers have sold it or are otherwise dissatisfied to the point of never buying another samsung phone again. 2 of the 3 SGS owners I know have sold theirs, and the 3rd wants to
For grins & giggles I called our dealer support line and asked about this. Actually spoke with a customer service rep and a supervisor. Neither of them have heard of adding the IMEI to any list to push the FROYO update. The only push they'd heard about was the previous system update.
Of course, like others have said. You can always get someone who just doesn't know what they're talking about, but I'm gonna go with them on this. Now if you get the update and prove me wrong then that's good news for all.
Keep trying though, someday you might get your FROYO without root...
I'll stick with my rooted Vibrant.
Man just root your phone. Its not hard and its not hard to remove if you decide you don't like it.
The Pro's easily out weigh the Con's.

This thread is hilarious. T-Mobile would never send updates to anyone's phone via a phone call. The update will only be available by going to the update firmware option on your phone and downloading it.

think.
A OTA sometimes bugs and people don't get the update.
So they call t mobile and tell them to push it to your phone. I had to do that before for 2.1.1
But I just them my phone number and they confirmed I had a galaxy s phone so they sent it within 24 hours and I got it.
They actually do this.
I also think there's a reason walmart and samsung websites say 2.2 but its going to be for everyone not just the ones who call
Just try it and say your sorry after, their starting to roll out the update, but just call and have them push it through,i have 30 hours left to receive it, they do have it because I was confirmed by samsung, then I called tmobile to tell them what I was told, so just try it and thats it

Please forgive me I did a search on XDA here in the GS4 forums and on google and could not find any results with my issue, if i did miss it please point me in the right direction "after week getting little agitated".
I have the AT&T i337 32gb version, was rooted running stock last week, on Tuesday all of a sudden I lost the ability to talk on the phone and use data at the same time, which I have been doing for years with AT&T and worked fine on the GS4 the first month or so I had the phone. Odin back to stock multiple resets, APN restores etc... no go. Sooooo did the stupid thing and took the OTA update just to see if was SW issue, of course wast so no more ROM for me. woohoo... took phone to store they messed with for over an hour and couldn't figure it out as well advsd me to call in to tech support which they did stuff for an hour and they couldn't get it either, sent me a warranty replacement. Thank god it came with mdl so before even putting sim in rooted and disabled the OTA update feature. Well after getting new phone set up have the same problem. They have escalated the issue and im supposed to hear something back this evening, i am just curious if there is something i can have them look at on the back haul of things that could be messed up, also I have 2 other phones on my same plan and they are working fine with talking and data simultaneously. Any ideas I can try would be appreciated.
FYI I have loaded the KANGABEAN rom on my device and using it now, but the problem happens on a completely stock ROM, i very seriously doubt i have 2 bad devices in a row doing the excact same thing, ive been wrong before so its very possible just dont see it.
Any advice I would love to hear and try
Thanks
I do know they throttle data while on a call even though they advertise it... I uploaded photos of proof that they throttle and while on a call, data is nearly useless. This has been brought up a few times since I've joined xda in the last two years even when I had an iPhone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
Ahh they servers were different. Here's another pic of me on call on the same server as the second photo (Carlsbad). Download is barely usuable but upload froze and trying to do any data related task on the phone during a call just doesn't work. I guess my question would be is your data not working at all during a call? Try doing a speed test and report back.
Edit: didn't read your post thoroughly lol. If it stopped working all of a sudden maybe it's the towers but that wouldnt explain the other two phones working. Either way I just wanted to put my two cents in about them throttling. Sorry if I wasn't much help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
It has to be something with the towers around my work area... I have about hour commute to the area I work, I work mobile so drive multiple counties and it will work fine till I hit certain spot then nothing. Now just have to figure out how to get att to see it. Thanks for input
If there is anyone around the Kernersville, Walkertown NC area that could test and see if they have the same issue I would appreciate it, I know i cant be the only one

New security update dropped a few days ago. Haven't seen any mention of it in the forums and figured I'd take the time to see if anyone noticed.
I noticed. Fortunately I woke up, saw it downloading, and did not allow the installation. After this, I moved it from the FOTA folder and renamed it. Just waiting to see what it is now. One of the sharper Devs is bound to dissect it, and post results. I also searched, and found that there are 3 to 4 things that have to be shut off (frozen) to stop this from happening. Search the forums for stopping Samsung updates, and it should pop up. I'm currently on a Note 4, unlocked bootloader with Jasmine 7.0.. don't want this mucked up by vzw or samsung!
