My sound is not working so I have to bring my phone to vzw. Thought it might be the ROM I was using but I've tried others to no avail. My speaker must be broken which is weird cause it was working fine just before bed two nights ago then yesterday morning it didn't sound my alarm which almost made me late for work
My question is, how do I make my phone stock again since I upgraded my radio to 2.xx? Do I downgrade to stock the same way I did when I upgraded my radio?
I'm sure the dummies at my local vzw store won't notice (I'm serious, its usually a sixty something year old lady working the tech counter) but just to be safe I need to install vzw's stock ROM. Just want to make sure they don't give me crap cause I need a replacement.
Thank you in advance

Do you use the VZW across the street from West Farms or the one on 66 in Middletown? The one in W. Hartford usually has an old lady behind the counter too.

Haha...must be a CT thing. I go to the one on RT 66 in Middletown. Never go to the one in Newington or Manchester. They are the two busiest stores in the state and always have great techs but those guys know all about rooting and mods and will catch it if you are not careful.
I finally have time to go to VZW to exchange my phone and I can't get the my phone back to stock. Phandroid Forums are down and have been all day.
I tried using the PB31IMG.zip from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726791) but it won't work anymore. That's how I unrooted my phone to upgrade my radio but it won't work now. I goes thru the entire process and the progress bar shows up on the right but at the end it says "Update Fail!" Is that because I running radio 2.05?
There's a you tube video that shows you how to downgrade from froyo and the 2.05 radio. The trick is that you need to and push an older hboot onto the phone. The video is by Diego and it worked great.

Thanks. I used it and stressed this for absolutely nothing. The tools at vzw didn't even check my phone. They didn't even have a tech there. I told them what the problem was (ring/speaker phone speaker not working) he checked my settings and said it was because I had Phone Vibrate checked off. I explained to him that had nothing to do with it and someone else came by and said that the speaker not working was a "known 2.1 issue" which is BS. They are sending me a replacement in the mail. They are such tools
Thank goodness they are "Tools"
For the ingnorance of the general employee at the stores we should be truely thankful. Sometimes it makes dealing with them a bit frustrating, knowing more about their own product than they do, but if they were too smart they would not write off so many of our mistakes as "normal failures" and we would be sad ;-) Igrorance is bliss, for me ;-)
By the way, my speaker started a little cracking yesterday and today the sound is almost just a jumbled buzz. I went to the nearby VZW store and they heard it and said that it is very common, one guy has blown 3 speakers in his already. He typed a bit of info into his computer, asked where to send the replacement, was surprised when I said "Verizon Wireless, XXXXXXXXX" which is where I do work as a consultant in the switch, and said I would get it day after tommarrow and a paid return box for my bad unit after activating the new one. So I will be de-froyoing, unrooting, and stocking mine back as well soon. Everyone be careful with these speakers as it seems to be the real weak point, which I do not understand because my TP2 has a pair of them and I cranked it up full blast all the time and never blew one.
Has anyone else here had issues with the Droid X having cellular network disconnect issues?
What I mean by this is that the 3G stops all together, you cannot make outbound calls or SMS messages. The 3G icon goes away, yet I can see bars on the antenna strength meter.
The only way to fix this is to reboot the phone, even putting in airplane mode doesn't work. It happens about every 1.5 to 2 days on this phone. I've factory reset it, gotten a replacement phone, etc.. Nothing works and it all started with the Gingerbread update.
I'm not the only one I can tell you that, many others on the moto forum are having it too.. https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/52111
I have an ADB logcat that I could send to some folks smarter than me if someone wants to look..
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-support-troubleshooting/354058-loss-data-voice-connection.html
Another forum posting I've found..
Glad to see there are more people with the issue.. Now its getting Motorola to listen....
There must be something unique that you are doing. I burn about 2200 min a month of cell time, and I've had no issues.
Yeah that happens to me, I sbf back to froyo, and now I'm on liberty rom, no more cell disconnect

I'm to the point where I want to get away from Motorola all together.. This phone has always been quirky, now its just totally unreliable. I have an HTC incredible (CM7) and have 0 issues with this, so I know its not a cell reliability issue in my area.
I can tell you that I ran CM7 for a few days on the DX with no issues at all. However CM7 has a few other annoyances that the wife didn't want to deal with.
I'm working with Verizon and it sounds like they're to the point of offering up a different phone..
I was having a similar issue. Spent countless minutes on tech support with vzw, countless resets, even sent me a replacement phone and had the same issue. Determined it was google voice at fault. Had to do a factory reset from the moto bootloader (not from settings/privacy), and it finally solved the issue.
If you're using google voice, try getting rid of it, and disconnecting it from your phone.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well, I don't use GV, but had it on my phone...
I've uninstalled, and rebooted (not factory wipe)...
I'll see how it goes...
I asked in the moto forum and one user responded so far saying that they have the issue but don't have google voice installed..
I had the same problem with OTA Gingerbread. Cyanogenmod 7 fixed all my problems. No lie.

Hi,I'm now having these issues and more since gingerbread. Sad thing is, I had NO issues with this phone while on froyo. Verizon wants to do a complete factory reset, but that means i'd lose everything on the phone. I have it all backed up, but it takes a while to set up the damn thing the way I have it. I feel if tat what Verizon recommends, they should help set it back up.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA Premium App
After dealing with the issue with Verizon they agreed to let me swap the phone out for a different phone. The only rule was no 4G or no iPhone. Right now we settled on the HTC Incredible 2. I have the original Incredible, while the HTC software isn't perfect, but at least I haven't had these issues..
Bye bye Motorola.. Another plus, if this HTC has issues, as least I can run CM7 easily now..
I had(?) the same problem
history:
before upgrading to 2.3.3 my Droid X was on Froyo and rooted. In fine noob fashion I deleted bloatware during that time without backing it up so when I attempted to updated to Gingerbread I was **** blocked.
The resolution was to SBF the phone back to stock Froyo then upgread to Gingerbread, it worked like a champ... sorta
I kept noticing that the phone was really sluggish on reboots, it also kept dropping the network connection, mostly when I moved out of a wifi hotspot, the 3G wouldn't connect, not until I rebooted. I tried a few things, uninstalled misc programs blah blah blah, some of it seemed to have worked temporarily but nothing was permanent.
So, yesterday, I did a Factory Data Reset, actually had to do it 3x's since the first 2 times somehow goofed the market so that it wouldn't download and install . But 3rd time was the winner and now everything seems resolved, no more whacked out loss data connections and faster reboots!
so my suggestion - Factory Data Reset
I totally agree. Vzw tier 1 tech support can be a waste of time. After taking 30 minutes to tell me to turn on wifi, one guy told me to right click on the settings menu. I told him it was a touch screen, does that mean I have to use my right hand?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I have the same problem on rooted OTA gingerbread. My solution for the time being is to setup tasker to reboot the phone at 3am everyday. If i go back to froyo the problems go away. I posted about this a while ago. It doesn't fix the problem it just masks it but I start with a fresh phone every morning.
I have the issue too, it started right after Gingerbread.
It was *really* bad until I re-activated my phone but it still happens almost every 48 hours.
As best as I can tell, it is most likely to happen when wifi is on and you have a weak cdma/3g signal.
I'm glad to hear that CM7 seems to clear it up. Between hardware instability, the compass quality being degraded and the ever imposing presence of Blur, I'm thinking I'll never again own a phone with a locked bootloader if I can help it.
I also setup tasker to reboot my phone at 3am every night. Did this several weeks ago and I've not had a network access issue since. Not a great solution but if you got root it does seem to make the problem go away.
Hey, let me know what you think of it. I thought about grabbing one cheap and using it until a good 4G & dual core comes out.
Not sure I could go with the smaller screen though.

I have this issue on an unlocked dev dx which has slightly older hardware than the current DX's but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the issue. I'm going to experiment with some different radio versions, because this didn't happen with all the different leaked GB radios. It wasn't until I think the 588 build that it started for me.
+1
I have had this issue ever since GB dropped for it. I am on my third X since GB. The first one smoked a memory card and battery. So I got a like new phone and all the fixings. Then the second one was also having the data issue and the camera took a **** (shutter was stuck closed). All of these have also not only rebooted randomly from day 1 with GB. Go to make a call phone reboots, send a text phone reboots. I thought it also was apps and heard about Google Voice causing it. So when I got this third one I only setup apps that it came with and nothing else. not even 2 days into having it the same **** was there. Less frequent but still there. They are going to get screamed at until I get a new device.
Switch to cm7. I love it.

Would the steps be identical to that of the fascinate except prior to that you'd have to flash a Verizon prl? I ask because even after the flash was successful, making a call still results in "we're sorry we are currently unable to authentic your phone".

I'm curious to know what 3G speeds you guys are getting. (I know it varies by location/coverage) but still.
Two Tips:
#1, make sure the Donor Phone can be read, in some way, even if its alternate methods, otherwise you're screwed.
#2, If you're flashing an Epic to any carrier that isn't Sprint, it's BEST to uninstall systemupdates.apk.

Just wanted to thank justan00b for putting this together. He is truly a helpful community member, with a lot of patience and drive to be contributing to people who need help.
For months, I have sat on my EVO 3D, because I was not able to successfully write the HA, AAA, and the DMU stuff correctly to the phone to get the true 3G speeds. Granted, all Verizon MVNOs are capped to begin with, but using the EVO on 1X was not an option for me. Thanks to justan00b's guide, I will give this a whirl on Saturday and see how it goes...
Thanks again man!

Depends where I'm at and my signal, but I've gotten download speeds almost 2mbps using speedtest.net app, slowest I'll get is sometimes .50 or .20 mbps down, just depends though. And care to explain on your first tip? What do you mean by can be read, as in can be read in dfs/cdma ws? And what do you mean or else you'll be screwed?

I'm not sure if Verizon phones are any different, but on other prepaid carriers, the keys are much more difficult to read than others, so say the user following your guide tries it out with a phone that locks up and won't allow you to read the keys, they have a bad investment on their hands. Without the possibility of 1x/3G internet.

Thanks for the detailed tut. The best so far for flashing to st. Gonna give this a shot once I get my vzw phone, should be here in a week. Will post an update once done. Wonder if you can get higher 3g speeds by using the full throttle tut posted here. Might give that a try when done.
It seems like with most things there are many ways to accomplish something. I just today flashed an EVO 4G over to ST. This is the second one I have done. First time I used a Handsfree Activation method because I did not have a VZ phone to activate an pull the data from. This time around I have a Fascinate and used a similar yet actually much different method then this. Im kicking myself because the first time around I searched like crazy and found the proper MMS settings and APN that got my MMS fully working, and well...did not save the info so now once again Im searching for it...lol. Now I know the HTC and Samsung MMS works differently on ST, but contrary to most peoples belief...the native MMS CAN be fixed and function 100% on the Samsungs. I have seen it personally working and am trying to get in touch with the flasher who set the phone up. If he gives up the secret I will post it here. If he doesnt then Im either going to try and track down the phone I seen working and see if the guy will allow me to take a peek into the settings and backup and pull a copy of the APN....or...lol...Im going to just send the flasher a Sprint Sammy and pay him to flash it. Then I can just pull the info from my own phone. Stay tuned to this thread...I will be posting the fix.

When you used the handsfree method did your data work, and if it did can you share the instructions and where you got them from because i dont have a vzw phone to use for this method.
If someone can find a solution to this, seriously, you're a master.
I was running CM build from the 6 January (stock kernel). And suddenly, during the afternoon, my data started to be slow.
Here I have a contract for 7.2mbps. I'm usually arround 6.5-7.2mpbs. Never really goes down 5mbps. So I ran a speed test. I was at 0.1mbps. I thought "this should be a little problem, nothing to worry about". I was wrong, so wrong. After that I flashed the CM build from today.
Hours later, after many speedtest, I was still at 0.1mbps and I started to think that this is really weird. So I phoned to my network and they told me there's no network problem at all where I live (should be true, no friends asked me about this).
So, obviously, I flashed another ROM, AOKP. Still ultra slow data. I flashed Paranoid Android, still super slow data.
I took off my SIM carte and I put it on my old HTC Sensation. Guess what, data was working perfectly. At this point I started to get crazy lol.
Maybe some corrupted data ? Let's flash the factory.img
I flashed via fastboot the factory.img, ran a speed test.... STILL SUPER SLOW DATA.
I should add that we don't have any data-cap here (and the Sensation proved it).
I thought, maybe the 3G is hardware broken ? No. I'm still seeing H+ and 3G on my status bar. More weird stuff ? alright ! Ping is excellent (about 40ms) and upload speed... is like it always been, arround 1mbps (that's the number in my contract too).
So now, i'm completely lost (and tired, it's 2am).
If someone, whatever the idea is, could help me, it would be awesome.
Fix permissions? And make sure your APN looks good

Good idea too, but already tried 3 and they all gave me the same result.
Do you guys think it's hardware ?
Try re-registering onto your mobile network. Or try registering manually instead.
I had a weird issue where my phone would switch to cdma on its own. try *#*#4636#*#* and playing around with settings there.
Try flashing back stock and factory reset.
Make sure your sim card tray is fully inserted.
Pray to the HSDPA Gods to give you your speed back.
Remove your tin foil case from your phone.
You're holding it wrong. Hold it in a different way.
Have you tried installing iOS on it?
wooooooooo!!!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
If you've flashed other roms, then it's obviously not a software issue, maybe there's work on your local mast. Is the speed difference only in the speedtest app, or do you notice it in normal usage?
So later yesterday I called the customer service. They confirmed that they have no network issue at all.
It started at 16:00 pm and yesterday night, at 3:00 am (when I was about to sleep, finally ) still ultra slow data speed.
I woke up this morning at 7:00 am, tried again a test, still slow data speed.
So I went to my office, I was in at 8:00 am and I ran a test again and... BOOM ! 6.8mbps ! And it works now without any problem.
Morality : Don't miss work. lol
But to be honnest, I really don't understand what happened. I have no clue what this can be. Anyway, it works now and I hope it won't happen again.
Btw, big thanks to everyone who answered, we have some great people here
Hello All,
I've lurked for a fairly long time, however I have come forward from the darkness to share some problems brought to light from the KK OTA update.
It Sucks.
There is no way around this. It's laggy in every menu. When im typing anything out, whether its a text, or an email or even into a search bar Its always chopping and lagging behind a couple seconds. Its a pain to hit the home button to back out of apps or just go get out of something that stopped responding for no apparent reason.
Also, as a small business owner, It is imperative that i stay in communication with my employees and family at all time should anything arise.
The KK OTA has failed miserably in this function. I have had it happen almost everyday for the last month since i downloaded it and installed it on my device that there are periods of time in between me receiving messages and sync data(email, push notifications, etc) that can be quite long. I have noticed that sometimes i just plain don't get my text messages for hours at a time. I'm a hard-working, geeky, IT guy 100% of the time, but Im a father first. Its not okay for me to not hear back from people regardless of what the situation is, and then I step out for air at night and go for a cruise, and then all of my texts and push data suddenly hit my phone all at once, sometimes anywhere from 3-6 Hours later!!!!
Its not my reception. I have a full 5 bars at my residence and at least 4 everywhere else in town, and average speeds of 45 Down and 30Up. My brother and girlfriend also have Note 3s and experience the same and even some different issues. My girlfriend's note 3 cant stay charged longer than 6 hours. even with the phone having all the apps closed and RAM cleared and the phone in complete Airplane mode. Its gotten to the point where she always has her charger with her! We feel like iPhone users! We've gone as far as to buy 3 extended batteries and everybody gets to keep one as a spare. Often times i have 2 spares in my backpack and I swap batteries once a day. My brother has had issues with his keyboard failing to work at all and requiring an actual reboot of the device and yesterday he called me to tell me that his speaker stopped working and after 3 reboots the speaker was functioning normally again. What causes this?
To sum it up, I knew there was only one way to remedy this situation and I was dreading it. I had to call Verizon. I had to tell them that the OTA update had made my phone worthless and unusable. It was an even further long shot, but i had to request and demand a replacement Note 3 with Jellybean on it and NOT KIT KAT.
The phone was overnighted yesterday and it arrived this morning. It came with Jellybean. Flicking through the menus and settings I had forgotten what the speed had felt like. Crisp, concise and without the slightest hesitation. The main purpose of this replacement on JB was so that it could be rooted and the stock apps could be frozen through TiBu and a nice aftermarket ROM could be installed. And that's just what I'll do. I've kept my Sim in my old phone and made sure WiFi stays off on the new one until the old one is backed up and Im ready to root the new one. I cant take anymore chances with these stupid OTAs
Briefly after i had taken the OTA, I had attempted to use Kingo and vRoot(I had been out of the phone mod/root scene for a while) To my surprise it didnt work. Then i realized the boot loaders had changed and were blacklisted and there was no going back.
I've been stalking all of the similar "4.4.2 root method? threads for the last few weeks and all of the responses led me to this obvious conclusion.
Lesson Learned. READ XDA BEFORE TAKING OTAs.
Note 3 junk now.
My Note 3 after OTA:
1 in 30 chance of not seeing "mobile network not available"- and actually making a phone call.
Random reboots
Short battery life
Hot
Crappy visual voicemail trial hard to disable
Overall, my Note 3 which ran perfectly before the update, is junk now.
VZW only has one answer- refurb.
How's about a fix!
I with you. Was so excited about the update until i got it. Phone havent been the same since. I have to hit airplane mode about 10 times a day to get 4g back. The phone button just hangs and take forever to respone. The whole phone now is very slow. I calling verizon when i get a day off. Really thinking about ditching samsung altogether. Their not what they use to be

I know Samsung can do better than what they're doing right now. But the simple fact that Verizon was 2 months late to the KitKat party with a ****ty OTA to boot makes my blood boil. Currently running Hyperdrive Rom and I have not regrets.

So any suggestions? Really don't want a refurb if possible for their screw up but i need a phone that works. The guy at the vzw store did tell me a fix was in the works Just wait?

Hey guys, I experienced many of these issues as well but have since resolved them.
First, any auto killers that you are running will lag the system big time! I dont know the technicals of why this happens but I experimented on my phone and it happens. SO AVOID AUTO KILLER APPS.
Second, this is in addition to the above suggestion. If you still have problems, a clean re-install might solve it. You can simply use kies or the verizon upgrade app which you can download with a little google search. Repair the installation or install clean (even better) to clear these issues up.
Again, I don't know the technicals but this worked for me after a good amount of experimentation and it's working fine until a root is available.
Best of luck!
