Wifi Dropping =[

Hey guys. I have noticed ever since i've gotten my Atrix that the wifi is always getting dropped when im inside a bedroom or some 20 ft away from the router. At first i thought it might have been just my router having issues but my laptop never experienced any wifi droppage like that though. The only times i don't get dropped signals are when im actually right infront of my router
I've read that sim-unlocked devices may experience this issue but mine isn't, or at least i don't think it is. I bought it from n AT&T store and im pretty sure they wouldn't sell an unlocked device, ever...
So my question is then, has anyone found a solution to this? I mean it's starting to become a real big hassle having to wait for my connection to come back up so i can continue using my phone
Even if you don't have a solution, please post here if you are also having the same issues because i'd like to know if its just my phone thats defective or not. My brother also bought an Atrix lest than a month ago and its having the same issue so i have no clue if either both our devices are defective or if its a general issues most users are having, cause if so, i think Atrix users should either get a refund or at least an update to fix this issue.

Same here as well.
No issues with previous devices or the 9700, Torch, Captivate or iPhone that others in the household use or my laptop come to that. Just the Atrix.
Mine is just rooted and currently running GreyBlur but not unlocked.
Just down loaded WiFi Analyzer from the Market to see if that can shed light on the issue.

make sure that you are not on a battary save or custom battary mode, cuz it's droping the wifi connection every time the phone goes to sleep mode.

by default wifi goes to sleep as soon as the display goes off. you need to get into advanced wifi settings (wifi settings->menu->advanced) and change sleep policy to never

Its not the sleep policy all tho that'll help the majority of ppl here. Mine drops during certain load points like getting updates from market or refreshing xda... Now to be honest after flashing the telstra rom it has disappeared.
Hopefully that little bit of code that capped our atrix was the culprit and an update will fix that bad boy

But I guess ill try out the 1.4.2 SBC since that sewed to remedy the problem for one user. Nit sure if it'll work for me though cause I'm w att and that SBF seems to be for Bell Atrixs.

Wifi & GPS signal on my phone just sucks, so I requested a new device from ATT warranty/exchange department. It should be here next week. I hoped we would get an update to address this yesterday, but I only know of 2-3 people receiving an update this week.

I really hope you att guys can get hspa unlocked similar to the telstra sbf. It has completely changed my phone.

Yep, i have this problem as well. Haven't seen this on LG Optimus X2, also i've got SE Mini X10 for my mom a few days ago and it's behaves much better in this respect, does not drops wi-fi at all. My Atrix drops wi-fi every 10-15 minutes when in the far room, other android phones, nokia phones, laptops and netbooks does not drop connection in the same place, so it's certainly Atrix problem. Let's hope the fix will come

Am I missing something? I don't think the Bell Atrix has its SBF release. Are you thinking of the Telstra Atrix's SBF?

LOL, no. I wish that were the case cause if so, it wouldn't drop the connection when i have it on the table and just play around with it =/

This is why I returned my atrix. I was hoping one of the updates fixed it as I was considering picking the phone back up.

To be honest the updates did very little to fix anything... The HSPA+ speeds are dismal and you can barely tell any difference between your previous speeds and new speeds if you're in a 4G area but one thing for sure that the updates did do was, not surprisingly, unrooted us =]
And for us lucky ones with Atrices (same plurality as matrices?) that have wifi issues, Moto was kind enough to not fix this issues which was most likely software and not hardware, as they rolled out 2 OTA's in nice timely fashions!

Suddenly text messages are contstantly failing

I'm running stock, unrooted Froyo 2.2.
Last couple of days nearly every text message I send says "Failed." I have to send texts four, five, six or mroe times before it goes through without an error. However, even though it says failed not all are failed. Out of five attempts the recipient might recieve anything from one copy to all five copies.
Very frustrating to both me and my recipients. (This problem is not specific to certain people.)
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do to fix this?

There's nothing you can do to alleviate the problem, we've been advising customers to be patient. The problem arose due to the connection going down between two major routing stations. Don't know why it happened, could be weather related

Sounds like you work for Sprint? So this is a known issue and being worked on?
Do you have an ETA? This is a serious problem, SMS reliability is more important than voice for me. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

He does work for sprint. The sms issue is already resolved.

I've rebooted my phone a million times hoping that would resolve the problem. But not in the last few hours. I'll reboot now and see if that fixes it.

Sorry for the delay. Yes I work for sprint as a tech. So my info is limited.
Yes, it is a known issue. It was passed along the company intranet yesterday and popped up on every computer as an alert. We, the techs, were also consulted immediately on the problem via email by our service and repair director.
Now, as far as I was told today... it's hard to answer. yes, the issue is resolved. But the symptoms are still present for some users. One thing you have to keep in mind is that not only did sms go down, but so did our data provisioning. So there's probably a lot of stuff backed up right now. Hence, the sporadic problems.
EDIT: as far as ETA, obviously that's a little hard to answer as well.

Very much appreciate the info.
I can say that the text messages I've sent since my last post a few hours have gone through without a hitch. However, earlier today I had a few hour window where everything was working normally and I thought everything was back to normal but the problems cropped up again.
Hopefully this time everything is back to and the problems are gone. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I just saw this thread and checked my texts, I'm able to receive texts but the ones I sent out up to 6 days ago haven't been sent. This issue has definitely not been resolved. This is a huge problem, and without this thread I would have never noticed it. I tried all the fixes mentioned and nothing. MEHHHH

The problem is NOT fixed. First text I tried to send today failed. I thought I was in the clear last night but I'm not. FIX THIS SPRINT!!!!!

Just out of curiousity, what ROM are you running? I was on SRF 1.2, I wiped all data and caches and reflashed SRF 1.2 and everything is good now. People are responding to the texts I sent days ago.lol

What data and cache did you clear? I prefer not to wipe out all my SMS messages. Especially since there's no guarantee that'll fix anything.
I updated my PRL today, no surprise but that didn't help matters.
The user who works for Sprint says that as of last night there is a known technical problem here. Hopefully he'll update this thread when the problem's been fully resolved. Then I'll know if there's an issue with my handset.
Today it seems like every text reports as Failed but recipients are still getting them. But it's still a crapshoot when your phone tells you the text failed. I hate this...

I wiped all cache and data in CWM(purple) and reflashed. I used MyBackup Pro before wiping and backed up my call log, mms, sms, etc. After reboot I restored everything, and all the texts that were stuck on "sending" were now all sent.

I had this same problem when I first got my phone 4 months or so ago.
I found that for whatever reason I could send and receive messages if I turned the "Data Network Mode" off. 3G would not connect, but 4G would and all of my messages sent no problem.
I'm not a real network savvy guy, and I have no clue why I ever even considered doing it. Probably just messing with all of the phone settings to see what might happen, and it worked for me. Give it a shot.

Droid X Gingerbread Cellular Disconnect

Has anyone else here had issues with the Droid X having cellular network disconnect issues?
What I mean by this is that the 3G stops all together, you cannot make outbound calls or SMS messages. The 3G icon goes away, yet I can see bars on the antenna strength meter.
The only way to fix this is to reboot the phone, even putting in airplane mode doesn't work. It happens about every 1.5 to 2 days on this phone. I've factory reset it, gotten a replacement phone, etc.. Nothing works and it all started with the Gingerbread update.

There must be something unique that you are doing. I burn about 2200 min a month of cell time, and I've had no issues.

I'm to the point where I want to get away from Motorola all together.. This phone has always been quirky, now its just totally unreliable. I have an HTC incredible (CM7) and have 0 issues with this, so I know its not a cell reliability issue in my area.
I can tell you that I ran CM7 for a few days on the DX with no issues at all. However CM7 has a few other annoyances that the wife didn't want to deal with.
I'm working with Verizon and it sounds like they're to the point of offering up a different phone..

I was having a similar issue. Spent countless minutes on tech support with vzw, countless resets, even sent me a replacement phone and had the same issue. Determined it was google voice at fault. Had to do a factory reset from the moto bootloader (not from settings/privacy), and it finally solved the issue.
If you're using google voice, try getting rid of it, and disconnecting it from your phone.

I asked in the moto forum and one user responded so far saying that they have the issue but don't have google voice installed..

I had the same problem with OTA Gingerbread. Cyanogenmod 7 fixed all my problems. No lie.

Hi,I'm now having these issues and more since gingerbread. Sad thing is, I had NO issues with this phone while on froyo. Verizon wants to do a complete factory reset, but that means i'd lose everything on the phone. I have it all backed up, but it takes a while to set up the damn thing the way I have it. I feel if tat what Verizon recommends, they should help set it back up.

After dealing with the issue with Verizon they agreed to let me swap the phone out for a different phone. The only rule was no 4G or no iPhone. Right now we settled on the HTC Incredible 2. I have the original Incredible, while the HTC software isn't perfect, but at least I haven't had these issues..
Bye bye Motorola.. Another plus, if this HTC has issues, as least I can run CM7 easily now..

I had(?) the same problem
history:
before upgrading to 2.3.3 my Droid X was on Froyo and rooted. In fine noob fashion I deleted bloatware during that time without backing it up so when I attempted to updated to Gingerbread I was **** blocked.
The resolution was to SBF the phone back to stock Froyo then upgread to Gingerbread, it worked like a champ... sorta
I kept noticing that the phone was really sluggish on reboots, it also kept dropping the network connection, mostly when I moved out of a wifi hotspot, the 3G wouldn't connect, not until I rebooted. I tried a few things, uninstalled misc programs blah blah blah, some of it seemed to have worked temporarily but nothing was permanent.
So, yesterday, I did a Factory Data Reset, actually had to do it 3x's since the first 2 times somehow goofed the market so that it wouldn't download and install . But 3rd time was the winner and now everything seems resolved, no more whacked out loss data connections and faster reboots!

I totally agree. Vzw tier 1 tech support can be a waste of time. After taking 30 minutes to tell me to turn on wifi, one guy told me to right click on the settings menu. I told him it was a touch screen, does that mean I have to use my right hand?

I have the same problem on rooted OTA gingerbread. My solution for the time being is to setup tasker to reboot the phone at 3am everyday. If i go back to froyo the problems go away. I posted about this a while ago. It doesn't fix the problem it just masks it but I start with a fresh phone every morning.

I have the issue too, it started right after Gingerbread.
It was *really* bad until I re-activated my phone but it still happens almost every 48 hours.
As best as I can tell, it is most likely to happen when wifi is on and you have a weak cdma/3g signal.
I'm glad to hear that CM7 seems to clear it up. Between hardware instability, the compass quality being degraded and the ever imposing presence of Blur, I'm thinking I'll never again own a phone with a locked bootloader if I can help it.

I also setup tasker to reboot my phone at 3am every night. Did this several weeks ago and I've not had a network access issue since. Not a great solution but if you got root it does seem to make the problem go away.

Hey, let me know what you think of it. I thought about grabbing one cheap and using it until a good 4G & dual core comes out.
Not sure I could go with the smaller screen though.

I have this issue on an unlocked dev dx which has slightly older hardware than the current DX's but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the issue. I'm going to experiment with some different radio versions, because this didn't happen with all the different leaked GB radios. It wasn't until I think the 588 build that it started for me.

I have had this issue ever since GB dropped for it. I am on my third X since GB. The first one smoked a memory card and battery. So I got a like new phone and all the fixings. Then the second one was also having the data issue and the camera took a **** (shutter was stuck closed). All of these have also not only rebooted randomly from day 1 with GB. Go to make a call phone reboots, send a text phone reboots. I thought it also was apps and heard about Google Voice causing it. So when I got this third one I only setup apps that it came with and nothing else. not even 2 days into having it the same **** was there. Less frequent but still there. They are going to get screamed at until I get a new device.

Switch to cm7. I love it.

Navigation " Searching for GPS"

Wondering if anybody else is having this problem. Every time I try to use Navigation, I get the "Searching for GPS" message at the bottom...indefinitely. The only "fix" is to toggle GPS off and back on. Works every time but is annoying and ridiculous. I thought I just had a lemon, but I'm on my second unit (1st was a 16gb, now a 32gb) and the problem persists.

Nothing in there is helping me, so it seems like a hardware issue. But what are the odds that I have now received two "bad" units? I would expect this and other forums to be flooded with similar experiences if there were hardware issues. Oh well, I guess I'll hit the AT&T store next week when I'm home from vacation.

I seem to get this problem occasionally but not everytime. because of that I kinda brushed it off but it had been annoying. since its inconsistent I hope it's not a hardware issue!

Happens to me every time. I go to Maps, can't find location, toggle GPS, works. Shutdown Navigation and Maps when I'm done, go back to Maps later, can't find location, toggle GPS, and it works. Of course, I'm outside my second 14-day return window, so I can't just bail completely, so I guess I'll try a third handset.

I'm starting to think it's related to being around tall buildings in the city? I noticed that when in downtown SF I am noticing the problem more. however when out of the city where buildings are built low, I seem to lock on without much problem. I've had similar issues with previous iPhones as well. can anyone confirm this behavior?

Unfortunately, no tall buildings here. Experience is the same for me everywhere: Chicago suburbs, country, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Wellington, FL.

Damn what a bummer man I'm sorry to hear. I noticed last night I couldn't get a gps lock in my gfs apartment building in Sf around tall buildings. this morning after moving about 2 blocks away I'm getting gps lock right away everytime. I can't be too sure but it does seem like my problem may be due to interference around me of some sort. I hope you can isolate you're case too!

Just left the AT&T store where they offered little to no assistance since I'm 4 days outside of the 14-day return window (was traveling on business last week). Store rep recommended I call customer care since their hands are tied in the store. I'm not an Apple fanboy, but having an Apple Store as an option to have hardware issues diagnosed and remediated is a nice "plus" of using an iPhone.
Looks like only option is to have Samsung send me a replacement, most likely refurb, to replace my 18-day old handset.

Yeah, I'm on my second unit. First was a 16gb. This one is a 32gb. Very strange that I have issues on 2 units while nobody else is experiencing it.
I called AT&T customer care and they tried some things on their end (no idea what), and finally asked me to perform a full reset thinking it was possibly a software issue. So far, no issues after the reset so we'll see...

that sounds promising. just curious.. how do you perform this reset?

Change your governor to performance and I/O to sio and see if still happens.
Or you can flash ktoonsez kernel and in the extra it will switch it for you eveytime you open maps. I get instant lock with this feature. It's really nice.

Quick update for anybody following this....
The full reset solved my problem. However, after a few days without issues, I decided to root my device again (using motochopper) this afternoon and the issue is back. So, it would seem the issue is somehow related to rooting.

Honestly, motochopper doesn't change any code in your phone that has to do with GPS function. I can't say that it definitely isn't tied to your issue, but it would have to be in a secondary way. Did you use Titanium backup to reinstall anything since you rooted? Or have you installed any apps that use GPS (for any reason) since you rooted? I think those two areas might be causing more of a problem for you.

I wouldn't have thought rooting would have an impact either. I haven't restored anything or installed any apps that use GPS since re-rooting this afternoon. It may be coincidental, but the GPS was working flawlessly since the reset and started acting up right after rooting. Definitely seems odd.

I know its weird but uninstall yahoo weather app it constantly runs your gps and makes it not behave with other stuff !

This is funny/sad as I had the same experience but I also was reinstalling all my apps at the same time so it could be yahoo weather.
Uninstalling yahoo weather and going to give it a shot. Lately the GS4 is driving me so nuts that I'm reverting to my Note 2.

Trust me its it I have been talking with the yahoo devs and they are aware lol I couldn't believe it was that simple tbh

no simultaneous phone and data?

Please forgive me I did a search on XDA here in the GS4 forums and on google and could not find any results with my issue, if i did miss it please point me in the right direction "after week getting little agitated".
I have the AT&T i337 32gb version, was rooted running stock last week, on Tuesday all of a sudden I lost the ability to talk on the phone and use data at the same time, which I have been doing for years with AT&T and worked fine on the GS4 the first month or so I had the phone. Odin back to stock multiple resets, APN restores etc... no go. Sooooo did the stupid thing and took the OTA update just to see if was SW issue, of course wast so no more ROM for me. woohoo... took phone to store they messed with for over an hour and couldn't figure it out as well advsd me to call in to tech support which they did stuff for an hour and they couldn't get it either, sent me a warranty replacement. Thank god it came with mdl so before even putting sim in rooted and disabled the OTA update feature. Well after getting new phone set up have the same problem. They have escalated the issue and im supposed to hear something back this evening, i am just curious if there is something i can have them look at on the back haul of things that could be messed up, also I have 2 other phones on my same plan and they are working fine with talking and data simultaneously. Any ideas I can try would be appreciated.
FYI I have loaded the KANGABEAN rom on my device and using it now, but the problem happens on a completely stock ROM, i very seriously doubt i have 2 bad devices in a row doing the excact same thing, ive been wrong before so its very possible just dont see it.

I do know they throttle data while on a call even though they advertise it... I uploaded photos of proof that they throttle and while on a call, data is nearly useless. This has been brought up a few times since I've joined xda in the last two years even when I had an iPhone.

Ahh they servers were different. Here's another pic of me on call on the same server as the second photo (Carlsbad). Download is barely usuable but upload froze and trying to do any data related task on the phone during a call just doesn't work. I guess my question would be is your data not working at all during a call? Try doing a speed test and report back.
Edit: didn't read your post thoroughly lol. If it stopped working all of a sudden maybe it's the towers but that wouldnt explain the other two phones working. Either way I just wanted to put my two cents in about them throttling. Sorry if I wasn't much help.

It has to be something with the towers around my work area... I have about hour commute to the area I work, I work mobile so drive multiple counties and it will work fine till I hit certain spot then nothing. Now just have to figure out how to get att to see it. Thanks for input
If there is anyone around the Kernersville, Walkertown NC area that could test and see if they have the same issue I would appreciate it, I know i cant be the only one
