Hi,
I, sometimes, have a hard time trying to recover my u8800's signal, which goes away by no reason. Sometimes, it just appears the signal symbol with a little cross (like it had no signal), though I live in an urban area, with a lot of people passing by daily, mainly in my university. In the other times, it appears like it doesn't recognize my SIM card. I have to restart it (sometimes I do it 5 or 6 times!) in order for it to recover the signal. I think it may be related to the custom partition, but can someone confirm it? Also, my IMEI is right, so I exclude that chance.
Thanks in advance!

Hello guys,
I am very annoyed with my device the last two days. For some reason the signal goes away and I can be hours without getting any.
I have not installed or modified anything on the device the past two days, even thoughI now recall changing the name of the USB, from the tweaking tool HTweakC2.0. Neither I had any accidents like dropping the device or anything.
Any suggestions why this is happening and how I can fix it?
If you have 3g, its more likely a network problem. Try switching it down to GSM from auto and see if that works.
If so, try switching back to 3g in a few days or in a different location,
And how do I do that my friend? Because I tried the way I thought I would, from phone settings but I couldn't see where you specify not to use 3G.
Thanks
Did you do this:
Start\Settings\Phone\Band
GSM/UMTS band drop down menu
Select one of the 2 GSM options. (UMTS is the 3G setting)

This sounds like an either network issue or a settings issue.
Now, I am assuming, since you did not mention that your phone did in fact work but not the data. Correct?
If that is the case, please, please follow what Ach2 recommended. If not then go back to your manual or check the wiki for instructions.
If you had no reception whatsoever. Then either the radio is off, or something that you did is turning it off. Have you checked if the phone tried to make a connection? That would be the antenna icon with either an exclamation mark or a three dots. Or do you just get an "X" with an exclamation mark along side that.
If you had no access to anything unless you rebooted it is still probably your phone, but what has your carrier said when you called them? Any problems?
Well, my phone was working just fine, but then something happened and no signal. (I didn't drop it or anything.. out of the blue that happened).
I hadn't tried that 3G thing, because I was actually looking for something named 3G, so I will try it if that problem persists (I did a hard reset and it seems that it's okay now).
And it must be the device, because I tried my Nokia 7610 and it had signal on that.
I hope I won't have to try it and the hard reset worked, but if it happens to me again, I will try it.
Thank you all!
doesnt get signal again.. searching and searching..
Edit:
Signal full: can't call or someone to call me!
The whole thing is ****ed up. Before i guess that it said that it had full signal but it didn't because it acted just like it would if it didn't. Now it's just searching and searching for network without finding any.
How could that happen, and how can i fix it. thanks.
try a hard reset to see if that solves it.. if that doesnt work try a complete provider rom.. if that doesnt work then you could try just flashing a new radio.. if none of those suggestions work then maybe take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286755 and do some heavy reading.. and alas, if that doesnt work then your device is probably toast...
Thank you. I have tried the hard reset but no it didn't work. As for the others, i prefer to take it back and ask for the guarantee since i have guarantee for two years. thanks anyway.
Alright. But keep in mind that you never gave us any specifics really. Made it hard to try to troubleshoot.
If you can get it replaced then go right ahead. It might be easier.
At home I have no phone signal - this itself is not a real problem, but what *is* a pain is that when I venture out the phone continues to hunt for a signal and fails to lock on. Each and every time I have to switch the phone off and back on again, at which point it happily locks on, displaying (normally) a very strong signal. Is there anythign I can do to avoid having to switch off and on again? Thanks in advance.
lost signal..
I don't think you can do much about it unfortunately. When a contact is lost with the mast you often cannot re-connect until you restart your device which re-establishes a connection. I've noticed this occasionally myself, it's not a fault with your phone..
Thanks for the reply. That's confirmation of what I suspected, but I can't agree it's not the fault of the phone - every other (non-smart) phone I've had has quite happily locked on to any new, valid signal it finds, including when changing country!
signal loss..
You are probably right on the non-smartphone issue but what I meant was that I don't think it's an actual fault with your phone more like the norm for smartphones to do this. Sometimes they can get confused when you are in the centre of 3 masts causing a delay in receiving text-messages.
Ah yes, I see what you mean - no problem with my "instance" of a smart-phone, but rather a weakness of the whole "class" of smart-phone. Once again, thanks for taking the time to write and confirm my suspicions.
regards

Hi,
I am amazed that I can't get any info on this with search as it has plagued my last few HTCs but is pisstake bad on the HD.
My phone will lose signal then keep trying to find and fail.
A quick reboot on any of my nimiety of HTC would let is reestablish signal and I could make a call. That works fine for the HD, but instead of being every few days, its every few minutes.
no signal, spining searching for signal sign.
reboot,
4 bar signal
30s wait , lost signal.
reboot
4 bar then lost.
reboot.
get wife's phone out of her bag, make call.
Is there anyway of forcing the HTC to keep a good phone signal or to at least improve it?
How is everyone else finding the signal on this phone, I use HTC because I can get a mobile signal where others get nowt, I even got a text down a cave before!!!!
(shocking because getting a text 15m underground is both amazing and it means I had taken my phone into a cave).
its very likely that your motherboard is failing, sounds similar to a problem my cousin was experiencing with his phone, made it impossible to make calls....was getting about 80% of his calls dropped. I'd suggest returning to stock rom & if the device is still under warranty getting it back to HTC.
There is no such thing as potentially stupid questions, just potentially stupid answers!
Would tend to side with DRTigerlilly, sounds like you have a malfunction most likely caused by motherboard.
Hello guys, i got my Note a week ago, and i have had som problems with the network operator signal. The problem is that phone loses signal every day, and after restart the signal comes back but after (30-40 mins) sometimes longer the signal disapears. It is very annoying. First i thought it was a problem with the sim-card but after testing it on another phone it worked just fine. I never had this kind of problem before, and i dont no what to do. My operator is (Telenor Norway). Thanks for the help.
PS: Sorry if my english is bad, i tried my best
Is it phone signal completely or just data? I have had data connection problem with my SGS2, with factory reset it went away. But I always had my basic phone service.

I had the same issue (only with data connection) and solved it choosing manually the network instead of automatic in settings. No loosing of signal in three days in a row. I hope it helps!
It is the phone signal completly, i did try to set up connection manualy but i did not help. Tho i did not try the factory reset, going to try it now and see what happens. Thanks for the both suggestions.

I have the same problem. Since the day I got my Note, I experienced both phone signal lost and 3G/2G data signal lost. Also tried factory reset and changing data to manual mode but still getting the same problem. Sometime it is the 3G/2G signal lost and some other times both phone and 3G signal lost.
The big problem here is that the moment the signal is lost, it will not automatically resumed. You never noticed it because the phone signal bars is still there running fine up and down. You thought it is okay but in fact no body can call you. You only get to notice it the time when you tried to dial a call out then only you discovered that there is no call signal. Too late - you may missed many important and urgent call !
To get the signal back, the only way is to soft reset your Note.
I get around with the above problem by installing an app called "No Signal Alert" it is free. This app will play a sound and vibrate when there is signal lost.
There's plenty of different radio for note. Try find them in the development section

Try these, in this order, trying again after each of them:
* Make sure you're in a strong signal area
* Try another strong signal area (several miles away, so you'll be on a different tower)
* Reset your device. Restore it to stock, in other words
* Call tech support
This was a widespread problem with the VZW GNex. I don't think it was ever officially acknowledged, but it turns out that a lot of devices had been shipped with faulty radio hardware. If you swapped out your device, it was luck of the draw on whether or not the replacement device would have a usable radio or not. This isn't necessarily what is happening in your case, but it's possible, and those are the first few things tech support will want to hear that you've tried.

Area is not the best but it's weird that I get a 4 bar signal and then just randomly lose it.
reset to stock, same problem.
I mean, it does reconnect automatically but it's kind of annoying to pick up your phone and see no service..

no data problems, just overall signal problems (ie "no service" where the carrier should be) and it actually fixes itself.
thing is, I don't if it fixes itself cause I unlock the phone or if its just a coincidence.
This is my signal data, is it good or bad?

I noticed this since the first or second day I've owned my phone. First thing I tried was getting a sim swap but the issue is still there.
While reading this thread my signal suddenly went from 4 bars to searching and I toggled the airplane mode and got my signal back right away (faster than when I tried waiting).
Although this seems to happen to my other phone the LG Optimus L9 so I think my issue may be network carrier related.
