Yea trust me I tried that, usually you can click on the apk through Root Explorer and act like your gonna install it and it will show you what the icon looks like, I just cant find the MF lol
MobileAP is what it usually is called... might be under a different name.
I can't find it either on my 2.2 powered Epic.
FYI, I have removed it 1,000 times on various Epics with 2.1 using titanium backup or root explorer.

Then why would it be listed under applications as it's own entity?
This is the first I heard that it was part of settings and couldn't be removed.

I mean to actually browse your applications that you have installed. I've never heard of one apk putting two icons into your applications. This case, settings.apk throwing both Settings and the Hotspot in there.
Oh well. Traded my Sprint Tab in for AT&T Friday.

I have a buddy who has a phone that was hacked. His GF has access to his Texts and Call logs. She even knows when he is resetting his phone as she sends him text messages telling him to make sure he does a good job wiping it... CRAZY
What is the root cause for this, how can it be prevented... and what exactly is she doing>?

I doubt any mod or program with or without root access can notify someone when they enter recovery to wipe their phone. Beside how would a phone be able send a sms while in recovery?

This should not be impossible to do with an app. Even with tasker, it is possible to create an app (app factory) that will have a trigger (sms sent or sms received or phone call received or phone call placed), and send a text to a predetermined number with details of the sent/received text or the tel# called. And these text messages can be set to not be stored on the phone.
Yes, I think this will work, because I have set my phone up with such a tasker profile (created an app from that profile, and hid it from the app drawer) - so that if my phone is lost, I can send it a specific text message, and it will respond back to me (at a predetermined phone# with GPS coordinates of the phone), without leaving a trace of the message with GPS coordinates on my phone.
It should be possible to change this to intercept any sms message (incoming or outgoing), and send that message to another phone#
Or, she may just have access to your buddy's service provider's account details (log in to the website, see incoming/outgoing call details easily)

Have him use titanium backup from the play store to back up his apps then have him factory reset his phone root stays then have him get his apps back through titanium backup.
Sounds kinda like cerberus. If your friend flashed the stock rom like mdc or mdl he should be able to remove the app. I know there is a setting to hide the app. And if he had root you can make the app non-removable. The only way to remove it is to flash the complete stock rom.

Use root explorer and delete from system or flash a rom and its gone. If this is stock then you have one over exaggerating friend. Or maybe you want to do this to your girlfriend and are too embarrassed to say the truth.

Most certainly not joking. I looked into his app drawer/app folder, and could not find any apps out of the ordinary. At first, I though maybe she was logged into his Facebook messenger account, so I uninstalled it... it made no difference.

He is not rooted.
My wife has an iPhone and I am too old (I'm actually not that old) to care, lol.
I was just reading a review on the AT&T version of G2 (I have the Verizon version) and there was a piece of software called LG Backup, that basically looked like an in built Titanium Backup that didn't require root.
I can not find this on my Verizon version.. is it removed? Is it named something different?
Thanks
Vzw probably removed it because they offer their own backup app with a monthly subscription.

I just looked. The only thing I find there under the Backup & Restore menu is
(all of this appears to be tied to google)
Backup My data
Backup Account
Automatic Restore
then the Factory data reset
So there does not appear to be that app on the Verizon.. damn you verizon..
Guess I will have to root it after all....
One more question.
I've rooted and disabled know, but I keep getting this message. What's this about?
Also, I get FCs on a lot of apps either after backing out, or after using them a while. I'm completely stock aside from root and adaway

In Titanium Backup look for something that says Verizon and shows that Shield. Select and uninstall. Believe mine was called that, but I don't know why yours wouldn't be the same. You can also in the interim go into your apps on your phone and find that Icon and long hold, App Info, and Turn Off until you find the App to force Uninstall on TiBu

No. You need to be rooted.

Did you get a chance to play with one of these @ BB? I didn't see a lot of bloat or really any honestly. Samsung Retail mode though, no idea what carriers will force.

Correct if you want to uninstall them, but you can "disable" bloat from the applications section in the settings to free up memory and to cut down on unnecessary processes without needing root.
I'm not sure how the US carriers will handle this issue, but all of my carrier-specific apps were uninstallable on my Korean Note 4. Samsung and Google services have been hit-or-miss. But then again, there was specific legislation passed here on this very subject last year.

Like that stupid flip board app.
Sprint has been pretty good about being able to straight uninstall all those useless programs they load once you activate. The rest has to be root uninstalled to remove. I've been using Samsung devices for awhile and most have to be rooted to remove their extra features.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Can't you just disable them? They'll still take up space but they won't run.
uninstalling some of the applications, especially from google or samsung could break other things seemingly unrelated, so much better way is to freeze them, but you need root. greenify has some option to stop apps from starting on boot up, not 100% sure, but I think it works even without root.
greenify is limited without root, but it is a start.
Does anyone know when the ATT note 3 was able to root?
