[Q] installing talk - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i pretty much rooted my fone and installed jellybeans almost exclusevely so i could get rid of hangouts and get back gtalk. after uninstalling hangouts in jellybeans and installing talk it refuses to sign in, Is there anything im missing?

sorry to bump but this is driving me crazy. anyone go through this?

I thought they killed gtalk altogether. Not sure if there's any way of making that work anymore. Maybe a third party app? That would be your best bet.

[Q] Removing Samsung IM App

I'm not sure if this is dev related or for the general forum, but I thought I'd start here. Originally I had both the Samsung IM app along with Google Talk. I removed the IM apk, since I didn't need that IM client, but have an interesting problem - somehow I'm still being signed into to Yahoo/MSN from the Tab. Anybody know if there is another app I need to get rid of?
I'll look into this later if nobody else has answered by then. I'm at work now and can't really dive into it.
You sure you don't have any other universal client like Meebo or something also running?
When you say "removed" did you delete it, move it out of the /system/apps folder, or freeze it?
I don't have any other IM client running, nope. Just talk, and something that loves to log me into Yahoo and MSN. I connected via ADB, mounted the parition as RW, removed the apk, remounted as RO, and rebooted.
What app are you talking about?
There is no app that comes with the tab that logs you into msn or yahoo.... so it HAS to be 3rd party.
Samsung does have IM app it comes on the bell tab and galaxy s I thought it was good but lost it when i flashed a euro rom to get phone. I wouldn't mined getting it back did you happen to back it up.

[Q] Notifications change on their OWN!

I thought I was going crazy but this is the 3rd time this has happened. My notifications all spontaneously change. Not sure if it is only after reboot, but Im wondering if this is happening to anyone else. I am trying to think if any apps might be causing this...I have Zedge installed which i used to DL the Google voice, and Gtalk and gmail notifications that are on the PC so they match....and I have doubletwist installed. I am wondering if this is a gingerbread problem or a zedge caused issue, or doubletwist airsync or something. Anyone else having spontaneous notification changes???
Welcome to club of Gingerbread glitches galore. (We talk specifically about ringtone/notification tone randomly changing here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882803)
But more importantly, visit this report filed with Google and star it. It'll garner more attention in the hopes that Google will address/fix this issue in future updates. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13413

Hangouts

Anyone else having trouble with the Hangouts app not appearing in their app drawer? It's replaced Talk and it is on my phone, just the only way I can run it is by opening it via the play store or just leaving it open all the time. Tried reinstalling but still no luck.
Anyone else having trouble with this on their S4 or is it just me?

[Q] Can't do video calls on Hangouts

I was just curious if anyone else was experiencing this problem. I've had it since Hangouts was released. I've already contacted Google which just resulted in them ignoring me
Every time I start up a video call in Hangouts I get the annoying - "Unfortunately, Hangouts has stopped." It doesn't give me the 'Wait' option either. It's either 'Report' or 'Cancel.' Strangely, I can get it to do ONE video call after I clear data/cache and FC the Play Services app...which is strange to me. I have the latest firmware and I'm NOT rooted. Also, I just got the new Hangouts update (1.0.2) and the problem still persists.
Things I've Tried
Clearing Data/Cache of Hangouts AND Play Services. Restarting and without.
Factory Data Reset
Uninstalled possible conflicting software: Voice, GrooveIP
Any insight or if you might have a fix would be much appreciated.
Awww...no insight? Is it a lost cause?
Nothing other than to tell you it is working fine on mine (with no conflicts from Voice or GrooveIP). I occasionally get dropped connections when chatting with my brother in So Cal, but he's on DSL so it doesn't really surprise me.
Well hangouts it's working like it was an alpha release. I added some of my family members to g+ and then to Hangouts so we could videochat in group and share things, etc.
The first time i sent a message it didn't show up to any of the new users. I tried videocalling and from my side it was ringing, but in the other end nothing happened.
I went to settings and signed out in all of the hangouts and then it started working.
But with every new user it's the same if they weren't Talk users previously.

Same. Very annoying. If you clear the cache and dat you can do a video call, but only once before the error happens again.

Yeah I tried Signing Out/Signing In and it was still doing it. I also just tried deleting all my Hangouts and starting fresh then restarted my N7...still the same problem. I think I've tried every troubleshooting tip in the book and with absolutely no help from Google.
Hell I've gone through the entire root process to find a fix...nothing same damn error. How does this keep happening? It doesn't even make any sense.

I have different device (g2/slimrom 4.2.2), but I had same problem. My solution was to push libvideochat_jni.so to /system/lib (it was missing, but I got it from rom provider packages).

Found the files and pushed them cleared the app's data and cache, restarted the device and no video chat. I'm running a Fix Permissions now since I read somewhere that when you push the files the permissions don't match the rest of the folder, so I'm waiting for this to be done and see if it works after that.
EDIT: Nope...still the same.
EDIT2: Ok...here's what is really strange. The file you mentioned isn't included with the latest version of gapps (03/01/2013). The libs included were 'renamed' to libgtalk_stabalize.so and libgtalk_jni.so. I need to know if anyone who actually has this working has these same files in system/lib folder.
EDIT3: Nope, just realized it wasn't any of that either. it has something to do with the Google Play Services app. I clear data and FC that and I can do 1 video call after that it still the same symptoms. Google says they are working on it so I guess the best I can do is wait.
This is happening for me on my galaxy nexus (stock 4.3 not rooted). I only just wiped the thing clean about a week ago from the factory image.
In my troubleshoot testing at home, I've discovered that my girlfriends nexus 7, and her sgs2 (with CM10.1) both force with the same behaviour. hangouts works fine until trying to make/receive a video call.
The ONLY android device I can get it to work properly on is my HP touchpad - the bloody thing is the only one that wasn't meant to run android in the first place!
I'm not sure how people have got it to work for just one call, I've tried wiping play services, but it doesn't seem to help.
I have same problem with galaxy nexus. One simple question, have you ever change your kernel or ROM?
Yes, but I've been running stock for quite some time now. Without issues.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4
same problem with s3 verizon
i have a galaxy s3 verizon one..evn i have the same problem with my s3..when i tr to video call someone..it says unfortunately hangouts has stopped..nd viber also doesn even open..any solution will be appreciated!
same problem
I am having the same problem with my Verizon droid RAZR mass and my galaxy note 10.1 gtn8013. When I use my laptop to video chat everything works great, it just when I use my mobile devices. I've used my sons nexus 7 with my account and it still has the same problem.
I installed SuperJELLY on my Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE, upgraded from Talk to Hangouts, and get similar results. I can open the app once and am able to IM okay, but after a reboot, I get, "Hangouts has stopped." I tried rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions, but that didn't fix the problem.
UPDATE:
I'm unsure which of these steps worked, exactly, but I:
Used Titanium Backup to make Hangouts a user app
Applied the Hangouts update from around 2013-11-16
Made Hangouts a system app
Now she appears to work just fine, Captain!
How do you use TB to change Hangouts to a user app?
I have exactly same problem now. Just can't make any video call, it worked fine before and I just found the problem today. I've tried all suggestions and methods above but still not working. I didn't change anything in my phone recently.
HTC One X, EndeavorU, CM11_M8, rooted with latest Hangouts

TweetCaster has gone crazy! Any alternative Twitter app suggestion?

I have been using TweetCaster for over three years I think, it worked flawlessly for me, until now. Even when I disable app's notification, it still keeps notifying me, which is needless to say really annoying. So looking for an alternative. Could someone suggest me a simple twitter app, not with all the fancy animations or looks or anything, just a simple app with Twitlonger support and proper push notifications, that's all.
Thanks in advance.
Hi. I use tweetcaster and have no problem with it. I strongly suggest that you uninstall and reinstall it. It would be sad to have you change apps.
I have already done that, twice, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, nothing was fixed! That's why I was forced to create this topic, I don't like any other apps as well, I know I will eventually come back to it, but until the problem is fixed I am staying with official Twitter app, which is garbage, but at least there is no problem with notifications.
