[Q] Notifications change on their OWN! - Nexus S General

I thought I was going crazy but this is the 3rd time this has happened. My notifications all spontaneously change. Not sure if it is only after reboot, but Im wondering if this is happening to anyone else. I am trying to think if any apps might be causing this...I have Zedge installed which i used to DL the Google voice, and Gtalk and gmail notifications that are on the PC so they match....and I have doubletwist installed. I am wondering if this is a gingerbread problem or a zedge caused issue, or doubletwist airsync or something. Anyone else having spontaneous notification changes???

Welcome to club of Gingerbread glitches galore. (We talk specifically about ringtone/notification tone randomly changing here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882803)
But more importantly, visit this report filed with Google and star it. It'll garner more attention in the hopes that Google will address/fix this issue in future updates. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13413

Push/toast notifications stopped working for apps

For some reason the toast/ push notifications for my apps that use it have stopped working...
Apps are:
Live soccer Scores lite
Spell It
AlphaJax
I also don't get toast notifications when an email comes in
Anyone else run into this problem or have any ideas how to fix this? I don't want to hard reset the phone...would lose way too much
Have you tried reinstalling them?
I get an error for Spell It that says:
Cannot initialize push notifications channel. You will not receive notifications related to this application
I have uninstalled and installed the game several times...same issue. It worked at some point but just stopped all of a sudden.

Only 15 apps can register for notifications, additional apps won't be able to. It's a platform limitation.
I tried to find it in the official docs, but can't. It's definitely in some stuff I was sent as a launch partner. Engadget also covered it.
Could this be your problem?
You have hit the 15 app limitation. This has happened to me several times and removing apps did not help. I had to factory reset the phone. I hope this bug (having to reset) is fixed with the NODo update. I know that 15 app limit will be there but having to reset the phone is totally BS. Samsung Focus unlocked.
Ugh. I am also suddenly experiencing this issue. I don't want to go start removing every app or doing a hard reset and spend a day re-configuring everything again from scratch.
I wish someone with the NoDo update could tell us somehow if this was fixed?
Nodo Update
I didn't experience the push notification problem before forcing NoDo update, but I am experiencing it now... Push works on emails, but not on my weather app, beezz, stocks live - all used to work before I did pre-nodo and nodo today.

Annoying data issue

I've tried to ignore this issue but I'm past the point where I can continue to ignore it. I use Twitter, like quite a few people I bet, but no matter what I do it seems that I can only get two Twitter clients that will regularly update at the interval I set AND successfully fire the notification alert I pick. Those clients are Plume and Tweetdeck.
I can use those and be fine but I'd prefer to use either Tweetcaster or Twidroyd at a push. I purposely did a test earlier where I set both Plume and Tweetcaster to update at 30 minute intervals and hit refresh on the hour mark. Half an hour later Plume fired up the notification alert but nothing from Tweetcaster. I've had exactly the same issue over and over but it didn't bother me as I was using Tweetdeck a lot before.
Obviously this will sound like a small issue but if it's affecting Twitter clients I have to believe that other apps are being affected by it.
Android Revolution HD v3.3
Radio: 12.28e.60.140fU_24.04.02.17_M2
If anyone can tell me what might be causing this and offer a solution I'd be over the moon. Failing that please tell me this doesn't just happen to me.
Quick edit to note I've had this with CM7 as well but I've changed radio since then.

Odd issue with YouTube/Media Files

I've already master reset my phone, and the issue persists, so don't bother posting that as a solution.
There has been an issue going on for weeks where media playback stops working. Nothing plays, not even YouTube or media via the Flash Player. The YouTube player just says touch to try again. The Flash and Media Players error out saying the format isn't supported.
Not even the Camera or Video recorders work (gives a generic error message). The only way to get it to work is to power the phone down and back up, until it works again.
Dunno what the issue is. Is anyone having the same issues?
Stock 2.2 KB5 never modded phone with the stock SD card and the only 3rd party apps I have installed are the obvious ones (Twitter, Facebook, Engadget, XDA App, Google Apps, Beautiful Widgets, etc.). Prolly have < a page of 3rd party apps installed.
N8ter,
I was having a similar issue with YouTube and Pandora. After a certain time neither would work, Youtube would give the error message to touch again, and Pandora (or any other music player) would pull up the song it was about to play, then skip it and go to the next one, and on and on. The issue wouldn't go away until I restarted my phone.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a fix for it. I tried clearing the data, cache, etc. with no luck. I have a hunch that it might have to do with an app or a program the runs data in the background or with data itself, switching between wifi and data, or with flash. Of course I could be way off too, who knows.
Right now I'm running Bionix NextGen 1 ROM with Overstock kernel and so far the issue has not come up. Keeping my fingers crossed, and hope our fellow xda'ers have a solution to this problem.
I'm wondering if the OS is shutting down a needed service or something in the background. It's been happening since before KB5 update, but I haven't noticed it being so bad until recently because I put all my music on the Vibrant and it happens when playing audio files as well...
Oddly, ringtones and notification tones still function.
Hi N8ter, DO you have the twitter app installed? I ask this because my sister was having the same issue a couple of weeks ago (we both have vibrants running bionix 1.3.1 ) i really didnt know what was going on so I kind of ignored her issue. It was not until I created a twitter account and downloaded the twitter app that I started having the same problem. I removed the twitter app from both our phones and we havent had the issue for weeks now.
Its odd i know but it worked for me...
You know what, I have been having the same problem, and yes, I do have the Twitter app installed. I hope that is it (I'll try to report back here after a few days, but due to the sporadic nature of the problem, I won't be able to know whether that works). thank you for the suggestion.
I can't really believe that the twitter app might be the problem, but it has been 24 hours without the twitter app and I havent had to restart because my media files/you tube are unrecognizable. I read it somewhere else on xda. I will follow up if it seems that twitter is not the problem.

Yep. I just went to the T-Mobile site and found:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/vibrant-file-glitch/td-p/760507/page/2
I just removed the Twitter app and reinstalled Seesmic for Twitter access (not big loss, it's not like Twitter had C2DM support and the phone natively syncs contacts and pictures anyways...).
I'll see how it goes.
Thanks guys... I never had media on my Vibrant until recently (the HD7's external speakers make the Vibrant sound like a Surround Sound system - don't even need headsets for this phone!) and the issue was starting to make me want to beat a baby...
Thank you so much everyone. xda ftw!

Anybody else getting this?

My XDA app keeps force closing when i try to reply or start a new topic.. Facebook force closes when i try to view my friends list.. Youtube force closes when i try to watch mortal kombat legacy.. Im getting insane amounts of Force Closes anybody know why?
That's crazy! I just tested everything you said, and yes, I'm getting a FC on the exact same items.
I assume this is related to Honeycomb... anyone know if this is happening with Xoom users?
Well... did some quick researching. I guess this is a Honeycomb issue. After browsing the forums and doing some Google searches, many people are having problems with the XDA app, Facebook, and Youtube... not to mention several other programs. Hopefully with time this will be resolved.
Hopefully cuz those are most of the apps most people use like facebook and youtube and then xda for people like us.. Then the other apps UGH acer come on send a update our wayy this tablet to good to be started up like this.. Come ON!

Calendar notifications not working

So my calendar notifications have been weird since the day I got my S8, they only seem to work when it feels like working..
I've just missed an appointment because I didn't get a notifications (I set 3), is there a solution?
Two things I found online, first one worked for a day or two, second one apparently did the trick:
Disable battery saving per app - you have to do this for each app you don't get notifications from
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/fix-delayed-notifications-your-galaxy-s8-s8-0177437/
Disable Google app - apparently Google app causes problems, so you have to disable it. Just the Google app, nothing else by Google.
Also you have to check enabled notifications: Settings - Notifications - Calendar

I've started a new thread about this one.
Do you mean disable google in settings->applications->application manager->google app (it is now saying disabled on my device).
I'm curious if this is gonna do the trick. I'll try and come bazck if it does not.
I't is strange that there are not MORE people complaining about this, maybe no one uses calendar apps.
I have the same issue on my note 8, I try everything to make the calendar notifications working but nothing seems to work.
I've search for a solution all around the web but there's no way...
I'm having the same problem from day one! I hoped Oreo fw wouldn't have this problem anymore but unfortunately it's still there. It's driving me nuts!
How the hell did Samsung not fix this already? Calendar application should be one of the most important apps in a smartphone. Yet it's totally unreliable and there is no solution for this! It probably has something to do with aggressive power saving.
Anyone found a way to fix this?

My solution to this and whole lot of other notifications is disabling Doze through adb:
Code:
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable

Well, I have the same problem, and I tried everything with samsung center, because I have J5 (2017) android 7.0 OS, but they did not help in any way. I found solution on forums, that works for me, and it is app on google play named "calendar notifier". It automaticly sinc with your calendar, and it plays any sound you choose for alarming, until you dissmiss it. It may happend that you hear 2 sounds, one from calendar it selfe, and one from calenad notifier, but you will not miss the appointment....
Any updates?
Has anyone heard of a forthcoming solution on this?
My only "fix" has been to disable the Google App except that app is how I launch commands for Google Home. Without it I cannot use my phone to take actions for my smart home devices. So it's a bit of an inconvenience for me. Plus surely there are people out there that like using the native google search capability on their phone while still getting notifications from apps.
I say from apps by the way as it's not just an issue exclusive to my calendar. When I have Google enabled it works for a while, but then will stop and many things stop. Text notification indicators, facebook notification indicators, calendar appointment notifications etc.
Do we need to be contacting Samsung support through their website or have people done this and it just doesn't help?
It's a bug in Android and it will be solved in next big update hopefully. Until then workaround is to use this app:

FANTASTIC INFO. Thank you. Glad to see it's in the works for correction. Seemed like quite a large issue to have even happened and not being repaired quickly. But I suppose I don't know the complexities of what caused this or the best solution to fix it. Just seems like a lot of people rely on calendars and appointment reminders not working would be a big **** storm for them.
Just chiming in to let you know I'm having the same problem on my Note 8! It was working for a few months and then stopped! Tried clearing cache, data, and many other "fixes" that I've since forgotten. Nothing works. Recently got the Oreo update and SAME problem!! Really annoying! Maybe it's Google sabotage?! They are trying to control everything! Btw, downloaded the Google calendar app but I don't like it!
I had used successfully the adb doze disable on command prompt but my phone just "upgraded" to Oreo 8.0.0 and now my calendar notifications have stopped working again!!! I had a functioning calendar finally but now it's gone again!!! I ran the adb command line again (adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable) but still no notifications! I cleared data, checked the app wasn't optimized and reverted to stock calendar but nothing! Does anyone know another command line to stop this doze crap in 8.0.0??? This is why I dread EVERY "upgrade"! How could they take this away from me again???!!! I used to love Samsung but now I hate it!!!
I did the device doze disable using SDK tools and this worked for months then it stopped notifications again... sometimes! Besides making calls this is the number one thing I need from my phone and it still doesn 't work! Anyone ever find a solution to this because I still need one! Using Android 8.0! I was using Calendar Events app, worked for a while then quit. Same with Calendar Notifier and Calendar Snooze app. Plus a number of other apps designed to work with the calendar. I've been relying on my calendar since my Galaxy S2!
I stopped using calendar notifications because of this issue. I have very spotty wifi and mobile data, I found that calendar notifications would only work with a data connection. Typically, I'd set a notification, but remember the appointment anyway. About 10 minutes in the car, data finally connects, the 30 minute old notification finally goes off....
It's a dismal state of affairs when the consumer becomes the software tester with such an essential device.
Well, this is weird. My Whatsapp notifications weren't working. When I set the notification in the app ,you can select the app that chooses the file eg Chomp(SMS), Audio files,Themes,Music.
Intutively, I chose Audio files, and that appears to work, but Whatsapp produced no sound on incoming messages. When I chose Chomp to select the MP3 file, it seems to work OK. I'll play a bit more and report back.
Cheers
Steve
