Why so little storage space? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing cm10.2, why do I still only have 24GB total space? I thought the lighter ROM would free up some of the 32GB capacity.

Youd have to repartition for that. Whichbi dont think its possible with locked bootloader.
You have more space on system partition

I'm hoping this comes along eventually. I was expecting there to be a bloated /sys partition, but I had no idea it would be THAT huge :< maybe I can use it as a backup parition, as long as I mind the backup sizes.

just an apps2sd+ question

hey,
uhm i use apps2sd+ in nexusHD2 gingerbread rom and apps are being succesfully installed in my ext4 partition.
but why is internal storage decreasing, when its not being installed in there. i read somewhere to just reboot and it'll jump back. well it does only a few mb, but its definatly decreasing... almost as much as my ext4 storage lol.
my ext4 is 1gb big, and my prognosis is that internal storage will be full after installing 300-400 mb on ext4... whats the benefit of apps2sd+ then?
i have about 50 mb on ext4 (i flashed yesterday) and internal storage decreased about 30 mb lol
i hope you guys understand what i mean

Maybe dalvik-cache is not being moved to sd.

ah yes you're right...

I moved dalvik-cache on my Nexus one, and I have class 4 SD, I don't notice any difference.
And I have TMOUS HD2, so I didn't do any App2sd, I'm not sure it has the same affect as on Nexus one.

according to j disk benchmark my write performance is 5,88MB/s, so this should be class 4, too right?
edit: i have slower values for nand storage test
Looking for number on your SD, if you don't see any number, it's likely class 2.

[Q] Why is phone storage 8.94GB after installing ROM?

I used to have 6GB free from my 16GB GS4. I installed Omega ROM and now it says 2GB free out of 8.94GB. Can I get them back and still use the rom?

That's normal if you downloaded a lot of apps, or created a few nandroid backups.
If you have videos in the phone that also uses a lot of memory, pictures uses memory.
If you are like I am, I keep about 2 GB of MP3 songs on my phone, that's takes up
a lot of memory too.
Check for nandroid backups in either your clockworkmod folders if you use cwm recovery
or in your TWRP folder and sub-folders if you use TWRP recovery for backups.
Nandroid backups take up a lot of user available memory.
Our phones have a total of 16gb memory (a little less due to the formatting overhead).
Within that memory there is a pre-allocated partition of approx 6gb designed to
be used by the firmware/rom and it's associated files, images and cache.
The size of that partition cannot be changed by the user and if you flash a rom
which is 2GB in size or 1GB the total free available memory for the user will
remain the same, it will not add or subtract from the total free space to the user.
Good luck!

s4 has 9.13gb max free, you need to enter recovery and wipe a lot of things from internal memory
be carefull with your data
after rom flash, should be around 8gb 8.5gb (with gpe roms)
Did you make a backup using your recovery and stored it to your internal storage? That could take up A LOT of space!!
What's cached data?
It has taken up 1.42GB of my memory

More Internal Memory

I rooted my S4 16 GB and installed CM 13. After installation it show's 9gb of free space. I wiped everything and still showing occupied 7gb of space. What's the right way to wipe and how I get at least 11+GB.
probably you have to wipe your internal storage to have 11gb

The storage is not one contiguous lump, if you have 16gb it is chopped up into a lot of slices Cache 2gb, system 1gb, tmpfs 900mb, and it goes on.
The /data partition is limited to 9.1gb.
to mess around with these partitions is very dangerous but i have seen it down on other devices, mostly old htc devices.
You can't increase the storage size.
Only the GT-I9500 has the possibility of increasing the actual internal storage space available to the user to 11GB.

Is it possible to resize the system partition?

Hi, I have a Moto X Pure and I'm using stock-based TruePureMM rom. I've noticed that I've run out of space in the "internal storage" and it's pretty annoying. it's a 16GB phone but only 9.61GB available to me. My system partition has about 3GB free. Is there any way to resize partitions to reclaim space from the system partition? Do other roms have varying partition sizes? Thanks in advance!

Is it possible... Yes. Would I recommend even an advanced user trying it? Nope, not a chance
But you need to rewrite the entire partition table, and resize every partition. The potential for bricking is high. Your best bet is add a micro SD card and use adopted storage.

I just sucked it up and found a deal on a 64gb version. Plenty of space now!

Get space back ?

Hello |
After installing custom rom , and making a nandroid backup of original rom (without app installed) , I was left with 800 mb
free on the internal memory.
How can i gain more memeory?
To flash again and wipe internal storage as well ?
Thanks.
Your backup is probably taking up significant space, possibly several gigabytes. Look in the TWRP directory and copy the backups off the device and delete them from the device (or better yet, just backup to an SD card). Otherwise to go Settings - Storage and tap Internal Storage and see what is taking up the space, and delete as necessary, pay attention to Cached data space, that can easily grow to several gigabytes as well, tapping that will prompt you delete all app cache data which is generally safe to do.
Will wiping internal storage help? lol... yes, of course it will if your space is used up by files in internal storage.
Thanks
Even after moving backup to external sd. There is only 4 GB free, out of 16 GB. App is about 2 GB .
It seems strange ........
