I wonder whats wrong here.

I wasn't complaining I was just asking for help, damn.
I'm starting to think my storage is corrupted and that might be the issue. I've been having USB issues on my computer and for a temporary fix while at the beach I cleared data and reflashed 4.0.4. It helped but its been an hour and my pictures/media never showed up.
I'll just backup my stuff when I'm home and reformat everything. Start clean.

Thanks for the replies guys, I ended up using One Click Restore To Stock and backed up my personal files on a computer. Gingerbread is flying and I'm hoping the fresh system will handle the ICS update a little better considering USB is completely clean now.
Just waiting on the ICS update. On 2.3.7 at the moment
Okey so yesterday I couldn't wait anymore and wanted to update my Nexus 7 to 4.2 but couldn't.
After restarting it did initiate the update but right after it gave me a red triangle with a (!)
And now I can't see any updates anymore. I yet I'm on 4.1.2 still
Dang it..

Download the 4.2 factory images from google and flash via fastboot.
Consider yourself lucky and stay with 4.1.2
I have the same problem as well. When I first tried to get the update, the Android had a red ! And failed the update. Now, it says no update available....
I'm not sure if I should wait until a more stable version is out, however.

It's all subjective. Some like it, while others don't. Neither opinion is the end all, be all gospel truth.

Aren't there enough 4.2 bashing threads that you feel the need to take this one off-topic?
The OP asked for help not for your opinion.

Have you modified, frozen, or deleted any of the stock system files? The update checks for approximately 200 files and if any aren't stock, will fail. Your best bet, as someone else said, is going to be to fastboot flashing the stock image. Be forewarned that you'd be essentially starting from scratch as it would wipe your tablet, but I'd personally find that preferable since you'd be circumventing some of the issues that are irking the most vocal of 4.2's critics.

I actually just purchased the tablet, and out of the box the first thing I tried to do was update, and it failed.
I'm not very knowlegable about flashing the factory image myself, but I've heard about updating using a "toolkit"? Is this easier?

Yup, easier. But using a command line and the android SDK/fastboot isn't all that hard... maybe your issue is just the universes way of saying you should go learn a new trick. :cyclops:
However I doubt the universe will waste any energy punishing you if you choose to go the easy route. Plus, you can always read the thorough directions for both routes and make an educated decision before you get your hands even the least bit dirty.

Why not, it's a safe operation.
If you're completely stock, and update fails, either try again (and again, and again), or send it to repair (slowest). Or fastboot (fastest).

this is my first time making an account/posting on xda after being a long time reader and user. just need some help with my nexus 7 32gb WiFi (Australian model) i have loved this tablet and I have never had a problem with it, its unrooted and has never been dropped or anything like that, i updated it to 4.3 ota last night and almost instantly after that I have noticed it keeps rebooting itself like so many other people have problems with on earlyr versions like 4.2, please tell me what I can do to fix this, I can't find any straight help, my location is off and always has been, but I have noticed every now and again I would notice (on earlyr version) fused location would always stop working and ask me to force close randomly, that now doesn't happen but instead it retstarts, so do u think this could be the problem? any help would be awesome, thanks.
If you're having a problem with 4.3 you can try two things.
1. Revert back to 4.2.2
2. Try a rooted official stock ROM.

I've had random reboots on 4.2.2 and one since updating to 4.3. Usually happens when I am mounting or unmounting a USB drive, but sometimes it's for no apparent reason.

Hey Guys,
I recently upgraded to the new Nexus 7 and am giving my old one to my little sister. I wanted to update to 4.3 but am not sure if there are any stable roms that she won't need to update or trouble shoot yet.
Any suggestions?
Should i just try the stock 4.3 for her?
Thanks

I would recommend stock 4.3
1. Wont need to trouble shoot.
2. Will get a message when Google pushes an update
3. Stable
I agree with kilometers4...
Stock JellyBean 4.3 is smooth, stable and secure.... and has minimal maintenance hassles.
Difficult to recommend anything else really.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Anything with stock kernel is basically reliable in the fact the source is AOSP so everything is opened up to us and is stable. Can't go wrong with stock. I myself am currently using one of the first roms that came out Clean ROM 4.0 and it's just peachy.

What everyone else said. For a kid the most stable and trouble free ROM is usually stock.

Just wondering who is planning to go back to stock for KitKat?
When is the release date? the 28th or is it a rumor
I am. Of course the factory images will probably be released before OTA so I will flash them instead

No one knows for sure = rumor
I am
I'm on PA now, but will probably go back to stock when 4.4 arrives. As I heard over at ParanoidAndroid Community on G+ on 4.4 they're going to make it all over again, so it's going to take time.
Waited for PA 4.3, not going to wait again for 4.4
I am currently back on stock in anticipation of that sweet chocolatey crunch.
I can use AOSP or stock as long as Xposed Framework is working for it too.
After what happened with 4.3 update -_- I am going to wait for couple days before jumping to Kit Kat. Probably will wait for PA Kit Kat rom.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
I literally just flashed back to stock today. However, I am considering flashing another rom because I keep losing data on stock. I can always flash the system image for KitKat when it's released.

I m already on stock. Will I get the OTA if iam on a rooted stock ROM?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium App
I'll go back to stock just to have the vanilla experience for awhile before jumping on a rom.
always been on stock rom rooted and twrp installed phone always takes ota updates just fine ......never seen any point flashing custom rom on this phone as phone is pretty cool as is ...only issue i have with the nexus 4 is that they knocked 100 off price 3 weeks after i purchased haha but love this phone
Will probably flash back to stock and then restore my current ROM as a second rom.
I will flash factory images and start all over with a fresh new phone. Hopefully it still has root. I wanna stick with stock for awhile now sick of various bugs here and there. For example, on cm my GPS takes hours to lock and even when it locks it isn't precise but on PA, GPS works just fine. The phone also lags here and there like when I initially turn it on from sleep and try to unlock or pull notification bar down. For me stock has always been faster than custom ROMs even though they have some really useful features

I just got a new nexus 7 2013. So I left that stock and lucky me on my Nexus 4 started getting base band unknown on anything but stock JWR rooted. So clean wiped and flashed stock. I had a Neo kernel system folder with scripts I couldn't delete. Feel much better now, couldn't say if I had ever clean wiped since getting the phone.

I will flash factory images.. I don't want to wait the OTA..
Already stock except for the kernel. Just a quick 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' of the stock 4.3 kernel and I'll be all set for OTA or Factory Images (though Factory Images would mean I don't even need to waste time reflashing stock 4.3 kernel.)
Probably going to use default stock launcher for awhile depending on the changes instead of Smart Launcher. Really like the rumors/previews we've seen of it so far. Especially since I am so embedded with Google Now. The left panel swipe would be awesome I think.
