T-Mobile 801 recovery problems - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using XE 2.0 on my Tmobile 801, and the rom shows as an 802. I have TWRP installed and it wont ever load a nandroid, every time I have to install the rom from a fresh wipe.
I am using the newest TWRP. What are others using on their 801? CWM TWRP LOKI no LOKI?

[Q] Flashing on TWRP

I have a D801 (T-Mobile). I rooted it a while back. I'm a bit of a noob. Recently, I wanted to flash KitKat. To do that, I had to flash a custom recovery. I installed TWRP as that was the one my instructions gave me. However, I am unable to flash anything. I cannot flash kitkat, cwm, stock, etc. I need any and all suggestions to at least flash stock recovery though I would really prefer to flash cwm.

Having a recovery that is up to date is key to flashing kitkat roms. I use Freegee. It's a free app in the Play Store. Once you install and run you'll have the option to install a recent twrp or cwm. You flash the recovery from the app, could not be easier. I recommend twrp 2.6.3.3 as I had issues with cwm 6.0.4.6 and it's also faster.
Make sure you're rooted before
Returned to Stock

I was rooted. Also, nothing seemed to recognize d801. They recognized the verizon, att, and the international but not t-mobile. I eventually just had to reinstall the stock rom as installing cwm over twrp froze my phone on the lg logo. Haven't gotten back around to rooting it again. When I do, I will definitely try that app.
Thank you

Thanks you for suggesting Freegee. I have been unable to flash anything for a while but after I downloaded Freegee and updated my version of TWRP I was able to flash the current version of PA.

[Q] [Help] Can't flash a recovery

Hi,
I currently have CWM 6.0.4.4 installed on my d802 but I can't update it.
I have tried flashing using this tool:
CWM 6.0.4.7
TWRP 2.7.0.0
CWM Touch 6.0.4.4
I also tried flashing with ROM Installer.
In every case, the flash seems to work fine, but I reboot to recovery and it's still CWM 6.0.4.4 and nothing has changed. I've tried factory reset, wiping cache (dalvik too), yet it didn't make a difference.
If it matters, I'm currently using CM 10.2-20131110-NIGHTLY-d802.
The point of this is because I get an error when I try to flash a kitkat rom (e.g. CM 11.2) and I assume I need to update recovery.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584938 Try flashing twrp 2.7 this way
OH MY GOD I had Root Access set to Apps Only in Dev options. I feel like an idiot.
Thanks anyway Art, at least Flashify made me realise there was an issue with root.

flashing rom

Every time I try to flash a Rom it fails. I'm using twrp, anyone know y
yours probably 2.6.3.2 ... try upgrade to at least version 2.6.3.3 or better still 2.7.0.0

Best way to reinstall recovery?

I have the Tmobile G2 d801, with the modified rooted stock KitKat Rom posted by dr87. I tried to flash the zip for Philz recovery through twrp 2.7, but rebooting just brought me to the black screen that said something about Fastboot.
I rebooted back into the ROM and tried using Flashify to flash either one with the same result.
Tried flashing the extracted twrp recovery image using Rom Installer only to get a boot certification verify error and had to do a hardware reset to get the phone to boot back into my ROM.
Is there a way to get a recovery back on my device?
Trying to install the zip through twrp manager also results in a boot certification verify error, but I can boot back into the Rom via the hardware buttons. Any advice?
Never mind, I held my breath and tried Autorec, that fixed it

From CM12.1 to CM13

Hi all
this summer i've rooted the g2 d802 with autorec i've installed the twrp 2.7 and installed cm12, when 12.1 come out i've just wiped all and flashed the new rom, now everything go fine, but i'd like to try the newer version ^^
i've read some stuff but i'm a newbie, so i'm pretty confused, correct me if i'm wrong
with autorec i've downgraded the bootloader to JB version so i cant install the CM13
i should:
1)update to the latest twrp BUMPED
2)than go to recovery and flash the lastes bootstack
3)reboot to recovery
4)flash the CM13
can i update the 2.7 twrp to the latest one if the older isnt bumped? and how can i update it? i just have to flash it from the older twrp or should i use flashify or something like that?
let me know if the procedure is correct thanks for the help
You need to update the bootloader & I recommend the latest TWRP. Then you're good to go. Going from Lollipop -> Marshmellow isn't as smooth as an incremental Lollipop -> Lollipop update.
Do create a TWRP image backup & titanium application backup beforehand.
I've tried Marshmellow, but AICP Lollipop has much better performance, more features, far more stable & comparable battery life when using servicely. It's still a work in progress.

First flash recovery once flashed it wont get deleted unless you change recovery or go back to stock. so blastagator latest recovery.. install blastagator then reboot into recovey from recovery. then flash bootstacks, again reboot to recovery from recovery and flash rom gapss. am not sure i dont think it matters wich recovery you use . as long a you have a custom recovery twrp or cwm you flash newst. and itll stay there unless you restore to stock then you loose recovery.
Sorry but i didnt understood, i already have the 2.7, when i go into recovery can i flash the blastagator or i have to flash something else before?

just flash balstagators twrp and you done. see on top part of screen theres the twrp version number. reboot into recovery so you will be on blastagators recovery.. and you done.. for bootstacks do the same reboot into recovery once you flashed boostacks once you in twrp and copy rom then flash
I can flash the blasstgator inside the older twrp or i need flashify or adb? Did u tryed?

you can flash new twrp inside twrp. to take effect just dont reboot to system choose recovery and check that it says 2.8.7.3 i do it like that. but you say something about using older twrp that you cant install new, that i dont know. mine i used auto rec and gave me 2 earlier versions so i just flashed blastagator.. nothing can happen if you flash twrp inside twrp you just updating.. but reboo into recovery and make sure it says 2.8.7.3 on top and youre done.
