From CM12.1 to CM13 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
this summer i've rooted the g2 d802 with autorec i've installed the twrp 2.7 and installed cm12, when 12.1 come out i've just wiped all and flashed the new rom, now everything go fine, but i'd like to try the newer version ^^
i've read some stuff but i'm a newbie, so i'm pretty confused, correct me if i'm wrong
with autorec i've downgraded the bootloader to JB version so i cant install the CM13
i should:
1)update to the latest twrp BUMPED
2)than go to recovery and flash the lastes bootstack
3)reboot to recovery
4)flash the CM13
can i update the 2.7 twrp to the latest one if the older isnt bumped? and how can i update it? i just have to flash it from the older twrp or should i use flashify or something like that?
let me know if the procedure is correct thanks for the help

You need to update the bootloader & I recommend the latest TWRP. Then you're good to go. Going from Lollipop -> Marshmellow isn't as smooth as an incremental Lollipop -> Lollipop update.
Do create a TWRP image backup & titanium application backup beforehand.
I've tried Marshmellow, but AICP Lollipop has much better performance, more features, far more stable & comparable battery life when using servicely. It's still a work in progress.

First flash recovery once flashed it wont get deleted unless you change recovery or go back to stock. so blastagator latest recovery.. install blastagator then reboot into recovey from recovery. then flash bootstacks, again reboot to recovery from recovery and flash rom gapss. am not sure i dont think it matters wich recovery you use . as long a you have a custom recovery twrp or cwm you flash newst. and itll stay there unless you restore to stock then you loose recovery.

Sorry but i didnt understood, i already have the 2.7, when i go into recovery can i flash the blastagator or i have to flash something else before?

just flash balstagators twrp and you done. see on top part of screen theres the twrp version number. reboot into recovery so you will be on blastagators recovery.. and you done.. for bootstacks do the same reboot into recovery once you flashed boostacks once you in twrp and copy rom then flash

I can flash the blasstgator inside the older twrp or i need flashify or adb? Did u tryed?

you can flash new twrp inside twrp. to take effect just dont reboot to system choose recovery and check that it says 2.8.7.3 i do it like that. but you say something about using older twrp that you cant install new, that i dont know. mine i used auto rec and gave me 2 earlier versions so i just flashed blastagator.. nothing can happen if you flash twrp inside twrp you just updating.. but reboo into recovery and make sure it says 2.8.7.3 on top and youre done.

If you have ADB access, you are in a good spot.
You'll have to ADB sidelaod a ROM, and flash it. shouldn't be hard to find info on.
Good luck.
congratulations for not saying your bricked.
you probably get an error when flashing right ?!
you need a newer version of twrp... get a flashable zip and update itself in twrp. then you will be able to flash roms.
Yep. darkobas is correct.
I missed your TWRP version. find 2.6.3.3 push it (I mistakenly said sideload above) and a ROM to your 'SDcard', then flash TWRP, restart to recovery, and flash ROM (and any other required packages (Gapps, system patch, etc).
adb push path/filename /sdcard/filename

What did I do wrong? Trying to Install CM11

I rooted my phone installed twrp via autorec--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496 . Then I backed up my phone through twrp and then I rebooted and put the newest cm11 stable build --> http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=snapshot&device=vs980 on my phone. (I put it in the download file of my phone if that makes any difference), then I went to twrp and wiped everything but internal storage and proceeded to flash cm11 which i found in my download file where I put it (it was a zipped file) and I flashed it, then it went into a boot loop! Currently installing the recovery in twrp that I just made. I do not know what I did wrong could someone please enlighten me? This is the first time doing this sorry if its a noob question.
Thanks.
FYI the recovery worked my phone booted up fine. Also it is a VS980. I do have the verizon variant.
UPDATE:
Tried flashing again, this time with gapps as well (forgot to the first time) same results, flashing the recovery again rn. I AM CLUELESS!!!!

Would uninstalling autorec do anything?
flash the latest recovery from here. Then afterwards check if you have the right version for your variant and check the md5

Again this is my first time getting this far so here are some noob questions: Would I just flash the zipped folder in twrp? Would I need to wipe anything? Would I need to create another recovery? Would it delete my old recovery?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Also why would updating twrp make such a big difference?
Just Flash the zip File for your variant then Reboot the recovery and go to settings and hit restore default. Don't wipe anything for changing the recovery. And this will just update the rec nothing else

[Q] Switching from CWM to TWRP recovery issues

Hi All,
So I have CM11 installed on my Note 3 with CWM 6.0.4.6 as my recovery. I want to now flash the TWRP recovery and replace CWM.
1) I download the official hlte twrp zip from twrp website
2) Go into cwm recovery and flash the twrp zip
3) But when I reboot, I see that I am still stuck with CWM and the TWRP recovery hasn't been installed
Can someone tell me if there is any step I am missing or what am I doing wrong? I just can't seem to get rid of CWM.
Is it because of CM11? I don't think so honestly (but I maybe wrong).
Thanks for any help that you can give
Bumping this question to top
Please help
I flashed twrp 2.8.3 last time but when reboot recovery i'm still at 2.8.2. Then flashed latest 2.8.4 it's updated as it should be. Maybe corrupted zip unless you downloaded a few times then i'm not sure.

[Q] Custom Recovery Doesn't Work Anymore

Hello,
I've rooted my own note 3 and flashed Temaseks unofficial cm 12 rom. Everything works perfect so I decided to do the same thing for my father. It all went well, first I rooted his phone, then I flashed CWM and flashed cm 12 by temasek. The rom works fine but I forget to install the Gapps. So I tried to install Gapps but I got an error "Failure Status 6". I googled on that error and someone told it has to do something with CWM. I tried to flash a different version of CWM but now I can't reboot into recovery mode anymore. So I can't flash anything.
I flashed another version of CWM but this one also doesn't work. Whenever I try to boot the phone into recovery mode, the blue line shows up. Rebooting into recovery mode, but after a few secs, the phone just boots the normal way. Is there anyone that can help me to get CWM back to work? In the mean time I'll try to flash TWRP by Odin.
Thanks in advance!
So I flashed latest version of CWM: Buildversion; 6.13.0, CWM Base Version V6.0.4.7. I can reboot into recovery now but still can't install Google Apps due to failure status 6. On my own Phone I run a different version of CWM, but when I try to flash it, the phone won't boot into recovery mode anymore. It only boots into recovery when I flash this V6.0.4.7 . How can I get rid of this version and flash an older version of CWM?
You'll probably have to Odin back to stock and start over...

You mean If there is no other way to get the Google Apps on the phone, I have to go back to stock. I did make a backup with CWM on the while it was running custom firmware. Now I have 4 files on my comuter, 3.tar and 1.md5 . If I recover them, I will still have this not working CWM version on my phone right? Isn't there a easier way to delete CWM, can I flash TWRP over CWM and see if it will install these Gapps?
Yeah, you should be able to flash TWRP over it. TWRP is much better anyway, in my opinion. Once you get the recovery issue sorted, I really wouldn't't recommend trying to flash just the gapps. It would probably work, but it's also quite likely to cause some weird issues. It's always best to flash gapps immediately after flashing a ROM, without leaving recovery.
I would flash TWRP, wipe everything but your internal SD, re-flash the ROM, flash the gapps, and everything should be cherry.
Edit: here is the link to download TWRP.

I appreciate your effort, thank you. The recovery issue is solved. I flashed Chainfires Root script and that installed the stock recovery. However, when I tried to install and older CWM version I got back in the recovery reboot cycle. But once I installed the latest CWM it booted in recovery. So I flashed Chainfires Root once again and had the stock recovery back. From there on I tried to install TWRP but got the recovery boot cycle again. My phone is now running android 5.0.2 and I think that's the problem.... :S I'll try again to flash Chainfires Root script to get the stock recovery back. From there on I will try to flash the link you gave to me with Odin and hope that will fix it. Do you have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Your version of TWRP works so far. It reboots into RecoveryMode. Now I'll wipe and try to install Temaseks Cm 12 followed by Gapps! Thanks so far!
Okay, it's solved. Can't thank you enough for you help. Bless you!!
No problem. Glad you got it figured out!

After update to V11.0.4.0.QFJEUXM TWRP no longer available

Hi Guys,
yesterday the new update came out, great.
I of course immediately pulled the zip (source) and installed it with TWRP (source).
So far no problems.
After a while I realized that I no longer had root because the apps stopped working.
When I wanted to boot into the TWRP to reinstall Magisk, I unfortunately found that it was no longer available, but only stock recovery.
Well, I thought to myself and tried to reinstall TWRP (method-twrp-3.3.1-2-davinci-fix), which was fatal, because my cell phone only booted into the Fastboot.
Then I got my cell phone, set up again with the Fastboot method.
Now I'm back to 11.0.4.0 but unfortunately without TWRP and root.
Can someone please describe how I can get TWRP and root again on Android 10?
I am thankful for every help !!!
Same thing happening to me, no matter what I do, stock recovery keeps overwriting TWRP
Oh dear, that doesn't sound good.
I hope there will be a solution to the problem soon.
I don't want to do without TWRP and root.
I wanted to try it according to these instructions "https://miui.blog/redmi-k20/twrp-mi-9t-redmi-k20-vbmeta-mauronofrio/". But don't trust me, I'm afraid that it won't work and I can start all over again.
Flash official TWRP this morning with fastboot commands without problem.
1. reboot in fastboot mode
2. Flash recovery with this command "fastboot flash recovery yourrecovery.img"
3. Reboot in recovery with this command "fastboot boot yourrecovery.img"
Any problems here.
The fact that twrp is lost when flashing official rom (even thought twrp itself) is normal. You just have to reboot into bootloader and flash twrp again and it will be back.
Your problem here is that you are using an old and unofficial twrp build, that has problems on newer roms. Flash official twrp and you'll be fine

Does anyone dare to test this?
Here is the link to the TWRP for our Mi9t

Check it out...
I finally got it
I did the following.
"V11.0.4.0.QFJEUXM" flashed in the TWRP and booted into the system, TWRP will be overwritten.
Now flashed TWRP "twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img" in Fastboot and booted into Recovery (TWRP).
To be on the safe side, I had the cell phone booted again into the TWRP in the TWRP.
Then I flashed Magisk "Magisk-v20.3.zip".
Booted cell phone into the system and everything works.

Where did you get the twrp file from?
You can use OrangeFox Recovery if you want a TWRP that can survive after flashing MIUI ROMs or updates :

To install TWRP, is it neccesary to wipe Data (or something else)?
And if Data must be wiped, does it mean that Data will no more be encrypted as originally by MIUI?
I have 11.0.4.0, rooted by Magisk (Magisk installed simply by patching and flashing boot.img, did not need TWRP for, did not wipe Data, etc) and I possibly want to have TWRP but don't want to loose encryption of Data, Widewine L1 and so

You don't need to wipe anything to install a custom Recovery (like TWRP).
TWRP can handle ROM encryption, you just need to install a correct TWRP, and version, for your current MIUI / Android version.
A custom Recovery doesn't change Widevine level.
And TWRP is useful in case of bootloop (because of an installed Magisk module, by example) or if you want to easily reinstall Magisk after ROM update.

Ok thanks, so starting from v11.0.4.0 QFJEUXM, rooted by Magisk (did not wipe Data or so, just patched and flashed boot img), is it ok just to flash (from Fastboot) twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img, downloaded from the official site https://twrp.me/davinci/twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img
Maybe I could test first by

Something is fishy. IMO, if that official TWRP is really ok for 11.0.4.0, then it should correctly boot by:
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img
But phone rebooted into the dark.
TG, I didn't really flash with, so by long pressing Pow it rebooted to system.
Tried again, no avail
Edit:
Tried the same fastboot boot with
twrp-3.3.1-12-davinci-mauronofrio.img and also OrangeFox-R10.1_1-Stable-davinci.img (obtained by unzipping OrangeFox), but it also reboots to dark and I have to long press Pow to reboot to system

You can install twrp by All In One tool
You can find its thread here itself
I took the official TWRP. " Link "
Flashed in fastboat and then booted the phone with a key combination in TWRP.
With the Fastboot command it didn't work for me either, the cell phone remained black ...
