[Q] [Help] Can't flash a recovery - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I currently have CWM 6.0.4.4 installed on my d802 but I can't update it.
I have tried flashing using this tool:
CWM 6.0.4.7
TWRP 2.7.0.0
CWM Touch 6.0.4.4
I also tried flashing with ROM Installer.
In every case, the flash seems to work fine, but I reboot to recovery and it's still CWM 6.0.4.4 and nothing has changed. I've tried factory reset, wiping cache (dalvik too), yet it didn't make a difference.
If it matters, I'm currently using CM 10.2-20131110-NIGHTLY-d802.
The point of this is because I get an error when I try to flash a kitkat rom (e.g. CM 11.2) and I assume I need to update recovery.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

OH MY GOD I had Root Access set to Apps Only in Dev options. I feel like an idiot.
Thanks anyway Art, at least Flashify made me realise there was an issue with root.

[Q] Flashing on TWRP

I have a D801 (T-Mobile). I rooted it a while back. I'm a bit of a noob. Recently, I wanted to flash KitKat. To do that, I had to flash a custom recovery. I installed TWRP as that was the one my instructions gave me. However, I am unable to flash anything. I cannot flash kitkat, cwm, stock, etc. I need any and all suggestions to at least flash stock recovery though I would really prefer to flash cwm.

Having a recovery that is up to date is key to flashing kitkat roms. I use Freegee. It's a free app in the Play Store. Once you install and run you'll have the option to install a recent twrp or cwm. You flash the recovery from the app, could not be easier. I recommend twrp 2.6.3.3 as I had issues with cwm 6.0.4.6 and it's also faster.
Make sure you're rooted before

I was rooted. Also, nothing seemed to recognize d801. They recognized the verizon, att, and the international but not t-mobile. I eventually just had to reinstall the stock rom as installing cwm over twrp froze my phone on the lg logo. Haven't gotten back around to rooting it again. When I do, I will definitely try that app.
Thank you

Thanks you for suggesting Freegee. I have been unable to flash anything for a while but after I downloaded Freegee and updated my version of TWRP I was able to flash the current version of PA.

[Q] Switching from CWM to TWRP recovery issues

Hi All,
So I have CM11 installed on my Note 3 with CWM 6.0.4.6 as my recovery. I want to now flash the TWRP recovery and replace CWM.
1) I download the official hlte twrp zip from twrp website
2) Go into cwm recovery and flash the twrp zip
3) But when I reboot, I see that I am still stuck with CWM and the TWRP recovery hasn't been installed
Can someone tell me if there is any step I am missing or what am I doing wrong? I just can't seem to get rid of CWM.
Is it because of CM11? I don't think so honestly (but I maybe wrong).
Thanks for any help that you can give

Please help
I flashed twrp 2.8.3 last time but when reboot recovery i'm still at 2.8.2. Then flashed latest 2.8.4 it's updated as it should be. Maybe corrupted zip unless you downloaded a few times then i'm not sure.

[Q] Custom Recovery Doesn't Work Anymore

Hello,
I've rooted my own note 3 and flashed Temaseks unofficial cm 12 rom. Everything works perfect so I decided to do the same thing for my father. It all went well, first I rooted his phone, then I flashed CWM and flashed cm 12 by temasek. The rom works fine but I forget to install the Gapps. So I tried to install Gapps but I got an error "Failure Status 6". I googled on that error and someone told it has to do something with CWM. I tried to flash a different version of CWM but now I can't reboot into recovery mode anymore. So I can't flash anything.
I flashed another version of CWM but this one also doesn't work. Whenever I try to boot the phone into recovery mode, the blue line shows up. Rebooting into recovery mode, but after a few secs, the phone just boots the normal way. Is there anyone that can help me to get CWM back to work? In the mean time I'll try to flash TWRP by Odin.
Thanks in advance!
So I flashed latest version of CWM: Buildversion; 6.13.0, CWM Base Version V6.0.4.7. I can reboot into recovery now but still can't install Google Apps due to failure status 6. On my own Phone I run a different version of CWM, but when I try to flash it, the phone won't boot into recovery mode anymore. It only boots into recovery when I flash this V6.0.4.7 . How can I get rid of this version and flash an older version of CWM?
You'll probably have to Odin back to stock and start over...

You mean If there is no other way to get the Google Apps on the phone, I have to go back to stock. I did make a backup with CWM on the while it was running custom firmware. Now I have 4 files on my comuter, 3.tar and 1.md5 . If I recover them, I will still have this not working CWM version on my phone right? Isn't there a easier way to delete CWM, can I flash TWRP over CWM and see if it will install these Gapps?
Yeah, you should be able to flash TWRP over it. TWRP is much better anyway, in my opinion. Once you get the recovery issue sorted, I really wouldn't't recommend trying to flash just the gapps. It would probably work, but it's also quite likely to cause some weird issues. It's always best to flash gapps immediately after flashing a ROM, without leaving recovery.
I would flash TWRP, wipe everything but your internal SD, re-flash the ROM, flash the gapps, and everything should be cherry.
Edit: here is the link to download TWRP.

I appreciate your effort, thank you. The recovery issue is solved. I flashed Chainfires Root script and that installed the stock recovery. However, when I tried to install and older CWM version I got back in the recovery reboot cycle. But once I installed the latest CWM it booted in recovery. So I flashed Chainfires Root once again and had the stock recovery back. From there on I tried to install TWRP but got the recovery boot cycle again. My phone is now running android 5.0.2 and I think that's the problem.... :S I'll try again to flash Chainfires Root script to get the stock recovery back. From there on I will try to flash the link you gave to me with Odin and hope that will fix it. Do you have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Your version of TWRP works so far. It reboots into RecoveryMode. Now I'll wipe and try to install Temaseks Cm 12 followed by Gapps! Thanks so far!
Okay, it's solved. Can't thank you enough for you help. Bless you!!
No problem. Glad you got it figured out!

Broken TWRP / CWM recoveries?

Hello all, I have an issue with recovery on my i9505 which hopefully someone can assist with?
I'm using the excellent Optimised CM12.1 and had TWRP 2.8.7.2 (f2fs) as my recovery all working fine. I've recently flashed the newest 2015-11-1 ROM over the top (clear cache and dalvik, but not data wipe) and all seemed great.
However, I went to 'reboot to recovery' in order to install exposed and got stuck on the teamwin splash screen of recovery. Every time I tried to power off it would bootloop into the same splash screen!
Using Odin I was able to flash a new recovery (TWRP 2.8.6.0) and reboot the phone as normal. All worked fine until I tried recovery again and found the same issue!
I've now got CWM (6.0.4.7) flashed to see if that would help but nothing is mounted when using that and so I cannot get to the zip files! When attempting to mount within CWM it errors and cannot mount.
I'm open to any suggestions and would like to learn why this is occurring. Let me know if there's any logs or files I can post that would help.
Many thanks in advance!

Do not use CWM. It's outdated and not compatible with Lollipop.
You could try flashing a stock rom with .pit and re-partition. After that flash TWRP again.

Thanks for the advice. I don't like CWM myself.. just tried it as an attempt to get TWRP flashed back properly!
I will go the stock re-flash route as a last resort. I'm sure it will fix the issue but is a little drastic.
What caused this? - is it something to do with the F2FS filesystem? TWRP recovery was working fine in order for me to flash the updated CM12.1 (2015-11-1).
