[Q] can you create an app folder like on galaxy? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On the note 2, you can turn any app into a folder (ie: angry birds into a game folder), by hold, drag, drop into a folder category.
I've tried several methods and searched the topic, but can't find anything for the G2 - is it even possible?

when you're on the menu click "options sign" on the upper right, then you'll see the apps are ready to uninstall, replace or be in a folder with other ones. After that hold which app and drag it onto another thats it

Thanks for the reply,
Which menu are you referring to?
I've checked everything I can think of, and can't find 'options sign' anywhere.

i think you just pick and hold one icon and drop it onto another and it should create a folder... at least thats how it is on most launhcers.

On the stock launcher just grab an app and while holding your finger down just hover it over another and a folder magically appears and it even gives you the option to name it. Its really just that easy.

anyone got a fix?
Umm yeah that's kinda the whole point in rooting the phone and running a rooted ROM so when you change things they stick.

I know ths is old, but maybe you are still around to see this. Here is what I did. I am on a rooted phone, but I'm thinking this should still work for you.
Here is what you are going to need:
Folder Organizer application
Any cut Application
Go into Folder Organizer and then go to Shortcuts, then hit the little plus sign to add an action, then choose any cut, then choose activity, then scroll down and choose messages, it will bring up a screen to edit just the title, then hit ok, now you should be back in folder organizer with the messages shorcut, hit the little down arrow on the right side of the screen of messages, then choose icon, and then go through and get whatever icon you want. now once that is done, back out to your home screen and long press home, or if you have an "add to home" button on your rosie, hit that, then choose shortcut, choose folder organizer item, choose shortcuts and choose messages.
It should not revert back to the original messages icon, it should stay. Hope that helps you, or someone else who comes across this thread.
By the way, this took me some time to figure out.... lol.

scrolling box gone?

the little scroll box that appears when you press and hold on the screen to scroll up or down is gone!!! is anyone else with rom version 2.13 having this issue or is it just me?
I still have it and I am on the latest ROM. so I am not sure what is up?! Did you go to the today setting and select a different theme?

Not exactly sure what you're refering. Are you talking about such as in file manager and music library (scroll box on right side)?

No worries man! Glad I could help. Sometime I change the theme just to change it up but then I end up missing the scrolling bar so I revert back to t-mobile one!

[Q] Is there a way to force a menu to appear?

I have several apps which work fine on phone.
They also run on the tablet - BUT there is no menu icon, neither at the bottom next to the 3 standard ones, nor is there a menu icon in the upper right corner. There is no menu icon.
So I wonder if someone has a trick to send a "menu pressed" signal to the app so i can access the settings.
I know i know, tell them to update their apps, but some people have left and others will take years to fix that if ever -
So i thought perhaps there was some sort of shortcut or perhaps hack which could make a menu appear? You know like you can record keypresses on a PC and then play them back.
The soft menu button on the screen works fine for me, its the 4th icon (Series of lines, top one one is longest) - same goes for the menu button that's on the keyboard.

Yes..
It also works for me when they are there. But they are NOT THERE for the apps in question.
I think you got this backwards,
The menu button will only appear if the app has a settings menu.
Majority of the Honeycomb optimized apps do not have a menu button because there either isn't no menu for that app or they have moved the menu button to the action bar on the top right, which is the new standard
The settings button is primarily used for backwards compatibility with older apps. This is why developers are removing the menu buttonwhen they optimize their app.

As I also indicated, there is nothing "optimized" about these apps. (And these have many settings which are now unreachable)

Some apps on the phone will scale differently on a tab, if you used the menu button n your phone doesn't necessarily mean the tablet version will need a hard menu button.
As I said before, if there is no menu button the bottom nav bar, it would be on the top right corner of the action bar. Older phone apps should show up a menu button automatically anyway. The only reason if there isnt one is that the developer chose so because they added one on the action bar.

Can you give us an example?
I've yet to encounter a single application with this issue, so I'd like to take a look.

I see, in this case its the developers fault. For some reason he disabled the menu button which should be there by default.

Alright alright :/ Sorry that I am not any help but as far as I know there isn't any way to forcefully press the menu button.
The only option is to contact the dev and say the menu button is disabled.
If you're rooted you can install Soft Keys.

+1 for this helpful comment. I am also looking for this as I have an Asus Eee Tranformer without the dock and cannot setup SetCPU app on my tab.

Cannot find the call/messages/contacts buttons in home screen

Maybe it is a stupid question, but suddenly I lost the software buttons on the bottom of the home. Is there a way to restore them?
Thanks

what launcher are you using? ...
you need to use your launcher menu> First you may need to long press the phone , contacts and message apps to bring them to the desktop, than use edit to place them in the Dock ( will depend on launcher and settings will vary according to their menu)
If too confusing just download a different launcher from play store and use it
This is stock Touchwiz, right? Looks like it, so I'll assume so...
Go into Applications.
You should see the icons for Phone/Contacts/Applications along with your other apps.
Press the menu button, and click edit. Now you should be able to move the icons around.
Drag the phone/contacts/messages icon down to the dock. It should drop there, and then you'll have your shortcuts back.

[Q] Icons missing from Galaxy S5!

I'm frustrated!
I want to edit the order of my "Quick Settings" in the Notification bar, but there is no icon (the pencil icon on the right side up) where it should be!
Also, when I press the "Options" button (the three squares) in the Settings page, most option are missing!
The only one that appears is 'List view' (to a total of 2 views - 'Grid view' and 'List view'), whereas the third view, the 'Edit quick settings' and the 'Help' options are missing!
I've got pictures to prove my point and help you see my problem but, unfortuately I can't post them here.
What is wrong? Is it because of the edition of the phone?

Depending on the device model and also the firmware version, there are some variation of the Settings menu. So I cannot realize what is your Settings menu structure.
You can open the S Finder and enter 'notification panel' to search.

Same thing happens. I sadly think it is because of the firmware, as you say, and there is nothing I can do about it.
Thanks for your reply, though!

If you cannot find this settings, here is another way:
Install Shortcut Master app, open Menu > Search > enter 'notificationpanelsetting' to search. Finally tap on the search result to open this settings.

I had high hopes for this (on my search on the Net, I found no solution like this) but, alas, the search came back with 0 results. Searched both 'notificationpanelsetting' and 'notificationpanelsettings', and 0 results for 'notificationpanel' as well!
edit:
Oooh! That's why I thought I recognised the name of the app creator - it was you! Nice job, btw!
Sorry, I have searched on my Note 3, not S5.
However the function may be missing because of different firmwares.
You can bypass this problem by flashing another firmware.
