Cannot find the call/messages/contacts buttons in home screen - Galaxy S I9000 General

Maybe it is a stupid question, but suddenly I lost the software buttons on the bottom of the home. Is there a way to restore them?
Thanks

what launcher are you using? ...
you need to use your launcher menu> First you may need to long press the phone , contacts and message apps to bring them to the desktop, than use edit to place them in the Dock ( will depend on launcher and settings will vary according to their menu)
If too confusing just download a different launcher from play store and use it

This is stock Touchwiz, right? Looks like it, so I'll assume so...
Go into Applications.
You should see the icons for Phone/Contacts/Applications along with your other apps.
Press the menu button, and click edit. Now you should be able to move the icons around.
Drag the phone/contacts/messages icon down to the dock. It should drop there, and then you'll have your shortcuts back.

It worked. Thank you. It was realy a stupid condition I was in.
Thanks again.
By the way, what is "stock Touchwiz"?

Touchwiz is the stock (or default launcher) that comes with the phone

[Q] REMAPPING buttons

wondering,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836702
reading that, i remapped my G button to ENDCALL. i was wondering, the faves soft button on the bottom of the screen, what number button is that and can that be edited to map to something else? like say browser or gmail or sms, etc.
I would like to know too if there's a way to change that soft button without having to root the phone. I absolutely hate that damn soft button, it's wasting one off my app spots

what is LP?
and no we are talking about the faves button on the bottom of the screen on the right next to the applications menu soft key.
[PHONE][APPLICATIONS][FAV]
^^^If that helps
i know some buttons have numbers assigned to them (like button 183, 204, etc) but no idea what button or where the file to edit for above mentioned key would be located. im thinking it may be in the sense theme itself since other themes have different buttons?
Sorry. LP = Launcher Pro, which you can get from the market. And yes it lets you change that.

It is not edited the same way. It is much more complicated. But you can go over to my thread and download the mod to change your "Faves" button on the MySense launcher. You must be rooted though.

Getting Rid of Main Screen Icons...

I've been busy and haven't had time to research this and hope someone
will know the answer.
HoneyComb has put icons for some of the apps I have installed on the main
screen. They also are among the "apps" icons when you call them up.
How can I get rid of the main screen app icons (not widgets)?
In Froyo, you could long press them and pull them over to a wastebasket. But
no wastebasket here.
TIA.

Root the device. Check the dev section. Otherwise you'll have to keep them.

The new "garbage" is on the top right of the screen now. Long press and drag them to the top right corner of the screen.

Yes you can without root. Uninstall in the menu section. Hold and highlight the app and uninstall will come up in top right corner

Heh, no you can't unkess it shows up in the My Apps page. Otherwise when you try it fails, but I don't think that's what the original poster really meant anyway.

OK, some really basic stuff here..
You can remove them just like you did in froyo by long pressing and dragging to the top right where the basket appears.
Since you are talking about applications you installed, you can easily uninstall from settings->manage applications, or from the apps grid menu by long pressing and dragging to the top right where the uninstall option appears.
You can disable auto home screen app shortcut creation from within the Market. Select "My apps" then press the menu icon in top right and uncheck "Add shortcuts for new apps".
There is also a setting in the Market - upper right corner menu from the My Apps window. Tap on it and you should have two options, one to "add shortcuts for new apps" and the other to "notify about app updates." To keep those shortcuts from showing up on your homescreen each time you install a new app, untick the "add shortcuts for new apps."
Oops, just reread the post above mine and this option was already listed.

Everyone,
OK, got it. I guess my old eyes just weren't picking up the change
to add the Trash Can when I long-pressed.
Anyhow, got all the apps/widgets/etc. stuff sorted out.
Thanks for the jump-start!!

Sounds like your home screen is already full. Try moving some of the apps from your main home screen ( the middle one) and place them elsewhere. If the middle one is filled up, it will usually just take you to the home screen and not carry the shortcut for the app forward.
Else, try moving to an empty home screen(any except the middle one) and push and hold down on an empty space. Then, you will see an option saying "Shortcut" or something. Click on it, choose "application" and then select the app you want on that specific home screen and it will just carry it to that empty space you selected earlier.

If you have a home replacement app installed(launcherpro, adwlauncher, etc.) uninstall it and then try. Had the same problem, uninstalling the replacement launcher fixed it. Blur is garbage.
i just had pretty much the same issue. i just installed Go Launcher and the only way to add things onto the home screen is to hold down on the home screen you want to add to, then press add application and then there's a check list for the apps you want to add to that screen.
i know it's off topic, but blur does suck, i was okay with it until i tried other home replacement apps, went back to blur and it physically hurt.
Thanx guys but im perfectly aware of how to add stuff to the home screen and
When its full or not. As for launchers I have 5 different launchers installed including stock MOTOBLUR and I use home switcher for froyo. So for the time being ill just work with a lil' ADW here and a lil' launcherpro. Thanx anyway guys

Change dock icons touchwiz?

Is there anyway to remove the doc icon messaging and replace it with another? I've looked and looked not sure if it can be done. Does anyone know I don't want a different launcher.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
figured out gotta be in applications and press the preferences button on left of home button.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Remember to go MenuButton>Save after you're done, otherwise it throws away your changes.
Pressing the back button will save the change as well.

This was driving me crazy today. I wanted to move Phone icon to middle so it is easier to reach one-handed, and put Camera icon on dock.
I finally found a post in the Epic 4G forum that explains the process. Works the same for Gnote. This should really be in the Gnote User Manual!
Application>Menu>Edit - drag out what you don't want, drag in what you do want - then Menu>Save to seal the deal.

[Q] can you create an app folder like on galaxy?

On the note 2, you can turn any app into a folder (ie: angry birds into a game folder), by hold, drag, drop into a folder category.
I've tried several methods and searched the topic, but can't find anything for the G2 - is it even possible?

when you're on the menu click "options sign" on the upper right, then you'll see the apps are ready to uninstall, replace or be in a folder with other ones. After that hold which app and drag it onto another thats it

Which menu are you referring to?
I've checked everything I can think of, and can't find 'options sign' anywhere.

i think you just pick and hold one icon and drop it onto another and it should create a folder... at least thats how it is on most launhcers.

On the stock launcher just grab an app and while holding your finger down just hover it over another and a folder magically appears and it even gives you the option to name it. Its really just that easy.
