I'm frustrated!
I want to edit the order of my "Quick Settings" in the Notification bar, but there is no icon (the pencil icon on the right side up) where it should be!
Also, when I press the "Options" button (the three squares) in the Settings page, most option are missing!
The only one that appears is 'List view' (to a total of 2 views - 'Grid view' and 'List view'), whereas the third view, the 'Edit quick settings' and the 'Help' options are missing!
I've got pictures to prove my point and help you see my problem but, unfortuately I can't post them here.
What is wrong? Is it because of the edition of the phone?

Depending on the device model and also the firmware version, there are some variation of the Settings menu. So I cannot realize what is your Settings menu structure.
You can open the S Finder and enter 'notification panel' to search.

Same thing happens. I sadly think it is because of the firmware, as you say, and there is nothing I can do about it.
Thanks for your reply, though!

What does that mean? Did you find this menu using S Finder?
If you cannot find this settings, here is another way:
Install Shortcut Master app, open Menu > Search > enter 'notificationpanelsetting' to search. Finally tap on the search result to open this settings.

Yes and, again, the notification panel had no pencil on the uppermost right corner. :/

I had high hopes for this (on my search on the Net, I found no solution like this) but, alas, the search came back with 0 results. Searched both 'notificationpanelsetting' and 'notificationpanelsettings', and 0 results for 'notificationpanel' as well!
edit:
Oooh! That's why I thought I recognised the name of the app creator - it was you! Nice job, btw!
Sorry, I have searched on my Note 3, not S5.
However the function may be missing because of different firmwares.
You can bypass this problem by flashing another firmware.

Hey guys, sorry if this has been answered, I did search, I swear!
I've heard I should be able to edit the dock icons other than the app/home icon.. For the love of God I can't figure out how!
Anyone want to enlighten me?
EDIT:
Turns out they called it 'apps' and 'toolbar':
t=726399
go into the app draw > menu > edit then drag and drop to the toolbar.

Is this in the regular settings menu?
I opened up my applications and then selected the context button and changed the type to custom, and then selected edit.

That worked!! Thank you!!
I must be stupid because I dont get it... when i go in my apps and click menu I just have the option to sort... nothing about editing anything
Edit:
Click application menu>edit>customizable grid
Then in applications menu>edit

open app draw > menu > view type > customizable grid > take you back to app draw.
menu > edit > takes you back to app draw > press and hold icon to move it or drag to the tool bar.
Shooooo. That's the antonym of intuitive.
FYI to the OP and to others who may not have know, this and a lot more is in the sticky.

OMG Thank you so much. I've looked every where, Glad I finally found this thread. It is over a year old but works the same on the Sgs2 ...... Many Thanks
Lets say I wanna change the icon shortcut link to Handcent instead of the default Messanger, theres gotta be a way to change it. Hopefully without rooting.
No way to change them. This feature and app menu options where removed from the epic.

I'd call that a workaround rather than a solution: I'm hoping for a solution via root or some other hack. Maybe it'll be as simple as editing a text file?
Quoted from the thread you said didn't have the solution. This might work for the other buttons as well, if you clear the defaults in said applications. That is done under the Settings > Applications, find the app and hit the "Clear Defaults" button.
Just download Handcent. When you hit the messaging icon at the bottom it will ask you if you want to use the stock app or Handcent (then you can check - remember this choice). Now whenever you hit the SMS icon (it will still appear to be the same...). It will open Handcent.

I'd call that a solution if it also changes the launcher icons to whatever application you're setting as the default. Does it work that way?

The 'Default Messenger' is not listed under Manage Applications, there is one for Handcent but that only makes it the default if you go through your contacts and select the 'text' option.
Otherwise it doesn't change the default launcher icon to open handcent and it doesn't change the logo.
Thats the one thing that is crappy with sprint is how they default their stuff and hard lock you in on it, same with the market place. They must have 3 different versions of the 'Sprint Marketplace' that has the same stuff as regular market place.
They also changed the Downloads section you click in Market to the name of 'Sprint', its like "wtf are they thinking" and it just lists a couple of average free apps under it that are already available.
This is stuff that I hope can be changed without rooting in the future, but it looks like the roms might be the saviour of this phone. SCHEIZA!!!!
It's "sprint's recommended" downloads. Yes, it's annoying, but it's better than locking you out of a ton of apps like other companies.
I have several apps which work fine on phone.
They also run on the tablet - BUT there is no menu icon, neither at the bottom next to the 3 standard ones, nor is there a menu icon in the upper right corner. There is no menu icon.
So I wonder if someone has a trick to send a "menu pressed" signal to the app so i can access the settings.
I know i know, tell them to update their apps, but some people have left and others will take years to fix that if ever -
So i thought perhaps there was some sort of shortcut or perhaps hack which could make a menu appear? You know like you can record keypresses on a PC and then play them back.
The soft menu button on the screen works fine for me, its the 4th icon (Series of lines, top one one is longest) - same goes for the menu button that's on the keyboard.

Yes..
It also works for me when they are there. But they are NOT THERE for the apps in question.
I think you got this backwards,
The menu button will only appear if the app has a settings menu.
Majority of the Honeycomb optimized apps do not have a menu button because there either isn't no menu for that app or they have moved the menu button to the action bar on the top right, which is the new standard
The settings button is primarily used for backwards compatibility with older apps. This is why developers are removing the menu buttonwhen they optimize their app.

As I also indicated, there is nothing "optimized" about these apps. (And these have many settings which are now unreachable)

Some apps on the phone will scale differently on a tab, if you used the menu button n your phone doesn't necessarily mean the tablet version will need a hard menu button.
As I said before, if there is no menu button the bottom nav bar, it would be on the top right corner of the action bar. Older phone apps should show up a menu button automatically anyway. The only reason if there isnt one is that the developer chose so because they added one on the action bar.

Can you give us an example?
I've yet to encounter a single application with this issue, so I'd like to take a look.

I see, in this case its the developers fault. For some reason he disabled the menu button which should be there by default.

Alright alright :/ Sorry that I am not any help but as far as I know there isn't any way to forcefully press the menu button.
The only option is to contact the dev and say the menu button is disabled.

+1 for this helpful comment. I am also looking for this as I have an Asus Eee Tranformer without the dock and cannot setup SetCPU app on my tab.
In my HD2 when I try to fix my Home Layout/Main Home/Notification Bar, the SMS icon indicates message reception; but when I tap on it, it does not bring up the relevant message but opens the item "Word Mobile" ??
Any advice ???
I don't know what the heck word mobile is, but I know that you can go to Settings > Applications > Manage Apps> All > "Word Mobile" > Scroll down and "Clear Defaults" .. Next time when that icon appears and you hit it, choose messaging .
Thanks; it worked.
However I could not find Manage Apps, through your way but through the utility "CHT Editor"
In any case problem solved. Thanks again.
lol this thread is funny...

lol, yeah I just realized my fault.
And I still don't know how it worked for him .. WinMo doesn't even have "Default" apps
On the note 2, you can turn any app into a folder (ie: angry birds into a game folder), by hold, drag, drop into a folder category.
I've tried several methods and searched the topic, but can't find anything for the G2 - is it even possible?

when you're on the menu click "options sign" on the upper right, then you'll see the apps are ready to uninstall, replace or be in a folder with other ones. After that hold which app and drag it onto another thats it

On the stock launcher just grab an app and while holding your finger down just hover it over another and a folder magically appears and it even gives you the option to name it. Its really just that easy.
