Having to touch the screen to confirm sending a text message was my biggest gripe with Google Now. This is going to be awesome, especially paired with Touchless Control.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...conversational-voice-commands-just-like-siri/
That's awesome! It didn't bug me to much that I had to make one screen press to send a text, but I did find it odd that my sgs3 was able to send a text with a voice command... Though, it took me repeating the message 5 times for it get it right lol.
Moto X rocking 4.4
Finally getting close to the utility of Siri for handsfree use! If only it would read out the text before asking you to confirm it.

What did you ask it to confirm this? Do you do any of the OTAs? ( I realize this probably has nothing to do with it just checking)

I said: "send text", the app opened it it next asked me who I wanted to text, it asked me what I wanted to say, and asked me if I wanted to send it (all like in the link in the OP)
I don't have the OTA
I got it to work the other day. Thanks

Stupid comment, but I just realized (or maybe it only just got implemented) that you could spell out a word if it isn't picking it up right. My girlfriend's name is spelled weird, so I just took a shot in the dark...huh. Learn something new everyday.
Also, conversational voice commands paired with Touchless Control is amazing.

Oh wow, thanks for that! My girlfriend's name is Johana but the phone keeps telling me I have no Joanna in my contacts, I'll try the spelling out trick later. And I tried messing with the phonetic names option but it messed my contacts list. I put "Babe" as my girlfriend's phonetic name and it sent her in the B section of the list even though her name still read right.

Why don't you just put Joanna as the phonetic name?
I tried that, but the phone hears "Joanne" even though I emphasize the last "a".

I have several phonetic names set in my contacts. This is what I do:
1. Try a SMS or email command with the name pronounced correctly
2. See what Google Now searches for when I say that name
3. Set the phonetic name as whatever Google Now searches for
easy peasy

This isnt a serious thread or anything, but i noticed that when i type 'have' and mess up a little, the htc keyboard auto corrects with 'ubersexual'. anyone else find other interesting auto corrections?

Just sent a txt to my wife that said Ubersexual Anal just for the hell of it.

yea, i just got it late last night also...maybe a bunch of evo owners are getting it...or just coincidence?
It's a lot slicker than the last beta. Still has that screw up on the predictive chooser popup, where the mostlikely choice is on the top line on the popup, but you are indexed to the center line - wtf.
I Like the add ' at end of word, concatenation concept - slick .
The off the pad trace stuff is neat too. I could live with it - if they pointed to the most likely prediction.
Close to shapewriter in performance.

Worked like a charm. Thank you. For anyone that signed up for the beta and didn't get the invite, Go to this link https://beta.swype.com/android/user/ and click on "resend me the e-mail invite" link and follow the instructions. You will have swype.
I registered about 6 months ago when I had my moment and got the email last night that they finally approved it. Now I have an evo and swype works great on it. I'm so used to the moment's small screen that I actually find it easier to swype in portrait mode. Swype is great!

Yea I like the new look of the keys plus the dedicated voice key. I wonder how long they will let us have it for this time?
I never got an email, and the site says I'm not in the beta.
However, I downloaded SwypeInstaller from my phone, and it downloaded. Opened it, it downloaded Swype just fine and I'm using it daily now with no problems. SwypeInstaller however was keeping my phone from sleeping, simply uninstalled it.

So this person called tocask about a phone imvselling on craigslist and after I try to text my sister whos phone it is. "There is a k** who wants to trade a phone for yours." Yeah it filtered k id when using voice to text. Seriously who thought kid was an offensive enough word to filter lol.

Right, you should most defiantly type the text response while your driving down Interstate 19 at 70+ mile per hour. No way should you use the voice to text option ever to reply to a text or for that mater any of the other benefits that it opens up on your phone.

Have you people honestly never heard of handsfree? My car has built in blutooth handsfree. I push a button on the steering wheel and talk. It does what I tell it. HipKat, i'm using the latest version of MIUI. Every time i fire iris up, it tells me "No Speech Input" (and actually, i can't use voice search or speech-to-text for this same reason)
Is there something i need to add to MIUI for speech input?

If its the rom, 'could' be AOSP, because I get the same message while on CM7, which is why I asked, and I do have Pico TTS installed already.
For people having problems, especially with the error "no speech input" be sure to install this:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.voicesearch&hl=en
install it and run iris, you will be all set.
I've been using the 4.2 keyboard gesturing over swype for some time now but the think that irks me is that I can't gesture/swipe slang words even if I enter them into the add-in dictionary or even the ones that are already there. Is there some sort of language filter on gesturing that can be disabled?
Words like
SEX
SUCK
F*CK
****
A$$

All you have to do is add the words manually to your dictionary under language settings and they will become swipable.

They are part of my dictionary but they aren't swipable. I have to manually type them out and then when i try to click on it to save it just selects it instead of adding it to the dictionary because i'ts already part of the default.
Okay that worked actually. Usually for new words you would type it out manually and then click on it and it will say "touch again to save" It didn't do that with words like 'sucks' or 'sex'
FINALLY I can say things like "That dire dilemma of yours sucks" and "Congratulations on your new puppy. What is the sex of it?" =P
