I have yet to be able to connect to any 5GHz network after 4.3, does anyone know if they addressed the issues in the 4.4 update?
Mine connects to 5Ghz on an AEBS without issue. What wifi are you using?
I have a Belkin N750 router and I have tried all the settings and channels on both 4.3 and now the official 4.4 still can't connect to the 5GHz network.

Running 4.3 and can connect just fine to my 5GHz AP.

Which is okay because it was free, but just out of curiosity whats a "cheap" 5GHz router known to work with the Nexus 4?

For some reason, my HTC One handles my wifi fine...but my S4 is sloooooooow.
The images will show what I'm talking about. Same WiFi connection, same spot in the living room. Any ideas why this may be?
I have the 24mbps from U-Verse and my laptop, iPad Mini, and Xbox are also having no issues, so the only thing slow is my S4.
NEVERMIND, AFTER FOUR RESTARTS IT FINALLY FIXED ITSELF...

Which wi-fi router are you using? I had a D-Link which would not work with the S4 and it turns out that there are compatibility issues between D-Link and Samsug phones. It would work everywhere else, AT&T hotspots, my work w-fi, etc. I had to run out and get a new router. It now works flawlessly.
No problem here, glad yours resolved itself.

Is this a known issue? I just got a S4 and have a D-Link Extreme gaming router and the phone will just not work. I refuse to change my router for a phone as all my other devices have no issues with this router.

It's a known issue in the sense that there are compatibility problems between D-Link routers and Galaxy phones.
I have not really had issues with my 4500. After some deep searching I was able to get it to work with the right settings. So I will keep my router which works on all my devices.
So, that's it; no solution just screwed if we own a DLink router? Blah... lame. What a bummer.

I have a Dlink DIR-655 wireless n router and I'm having the same issues with my phone/router. The issue seems to be with the dlink implementation of wireless N. Force your router to use wireless G and all probs go away.... I know this isn't a solution, because if your like me... you stream video... and G sux for that!
but its a fix in the short term....

I'm using a relatively new Netgear R6300 that has 802.11AC connectivity but can only get the S4 to connect to it on 802.11G - is there a way to change the band frequency to 5GHz so it can support the AC mode? I cannot find any options in the Advanced when connecting to the router.

Anyone have any luck with this? I just purchased an R6250 and 5Ghz AC only connects at max 58Mbps when I'm standing right next to the router. I think it's more on the phone side. My Tab Pro connects at 433Mbps.

Was it just a design flaw with the phone? My wife's S4 Active seems to connect at 433mbs, but it's a slightly different phone.

Could be the phone, the driver, or the OS. I've seen many mentions of this issue with the S4.
Anyone else have problems with their GS4 auto connecting to 5GHz wireless network? Mine has no problem automatically connecting to 2.4GHz network, but will only connect to 5GHz manually (need to go into wifi settings settings and connect that way)

It's your routers firmware. I have a RT-N66U running Asuswrt-Merlin and it has the same issue with 5GHz.
ASUS developers are working on it.
In case it's useful, I have a Netgear WNDR3700 running DD-WRT and have no issues with the 5GHz band.
Sweet, thanks for the info guys

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can suggest a fix, yesterday I upgraded to 4.3 using adb. I'm fully stock not rooted. today for some reason it won't connect to my home network. It's a cisco e2500 router and its on the 5ghz band. I tried setting different channels, turned off optimization....
what gives???

Seems like there is an issue with your router. Did you change anything recently in the router setting? Try restarting the router.

I had immediate problems with Wi-Fi after updating as well, I don't know what the new radio features but it turned out that a firmware update to my router had everything running smooth as butter again, actually better (a lot more reliable–YouTube app actually appears to buffer noticeably less and not break up, for example, downloads also initiate and complete more solidly) than it was under 4.2.2
ASUS RT-N66U
Nothing changed on the router i tried rebooting it also my Mac is still working fine

I have the same problem, since the update to 4.3 does not connect to the 5Ghz band.
I'm back to 4.2.2 and not connect, does it damage my hardware nexus 4?

I'm using an Asus AC66U at home and N66U at my office with no 5ghz connectivity issues.
Here's some things that might help you troubleshoot. Start by disabling the "avoid poor connections" feature in WiFi options. Install inssider or similar WiFi scanner to see if there is interference for your specific router config. Try removing the WiFi connection from your phone and reconfiguring.

Hi,
It's strange I have a similar problem. After upgrading to 4.3 my 5ghz connection came to a crawl. We are talking about 1.2-1.6 Mbps. But the 2.4 ghz was fine (35 Mpbs). Once I downgraded, re-writing the "radio" file, then the 5ghz connect was blazing fast again (50 Mbps). I'm convinced this has to do with the "radio" update, but I'm not sure what exactly.
Any suggestions? Currently I'm back on 4.2.2 as wifi speeds (PA rom) make more sense right now.
Thanks in advance!

I tried all of the above, every combination, reset my router, there are no other 5ghz overlapping networks, at this point it is something to do with my install. I wonder if a factory wipe would help...
That's my exact setup (E2500' did you set the Wi-Fi frequency band to 5GHz only on the N4 and give the band a different SSID from the 2.4 GHz network?)! Try forgetting the current connection and setting it up again.

If it were the radio software specifically, then logically 5ghz would be broken for everybody, which is not the case. Perhaps the issue is device data specific... There has to be a better solution than staying on 4.2.2.

I have with wifi problems too, but with 4.3 and 4.2.2 version. At home everything works fine, but at work phone connect to router, but no Internet (internet work only 1-2s). Other devises with this router works fine!
I have even a different issue. The phone is stuck at Obtaining IP Adress every time now. I downgraded to 4.2.2 and it's still doing the same thing. It does work if connected to a different router, but not to my main one. I haven't changed any router settings either.
I therefore conclude that my 5ghz WiFi antenna is broken. Reverted to both stock 4.2.2 and 4.3. Tried custom ROMs, different radios, but it won't connect anymore. Anybody else have the same problem?

I just got a new belkin 1200 AC router and though I can see the 5ghz network, when I try to connect it disappears. So, the 2.4ghz seems to work fine. I did run into this at a restaurant that had both options and the 5ghz never gave me a signal, but that was months ago and might have been prior to CM10.2?
On my N4 Wi-Fi work only on 2,4 Ghz band
could mine also be broken? it suddenly slowed down out of nowhere
Just tested my Nexus 4 (CM10.2 Nightly, AK v0.51) with Liksys WRT320N and WRT610N, have connect on 2.4Ghz/5.0Ghz on both routers.

Hmm, still wasn't able to get it to work.. I've reset both my modem and my router as well, no luck.
This might be a lollipop issue, as i remember reading somewhere that lollipop has issues with 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. If you are willing, you can try downgrading to 4.4.4 KitKat and giving it a shot.
