I have not seen it, but I have heard about it from the guys at PocketNow... Maybe it's carrier ROM specific?
Mine is the international version.

Yeah, sounds like it's common. Other screens have issues too. Like my Samsung AMOLED panels all had light and dark areas when they should be all black, but nothing could be seen when they were on. I'm talking about SGS I, II, III and Note II here.

Yes the screen has subtle lines that you can see in some angles when the screen is off. It's normal and every G2 has it (every phone/tablet for that matter but looks different on different models). It's the screens digitizer. Nothing to worry about. Without it your touch won't work.

It could be that you are seeing the pixel matrix. I remember something similar back on the HD2, but it was diamond shaped when the screen was off.

It's the digitizer for the display.
It's perfectly normal. Pocketnow said it even looks pretty. I have had it on my nexus 4, transformer prime amongst others. It looks like a mesh pattern right?
Normal bro.

It's normal, please don't return your unit as defective for that reason.

[Q] Am I alone with my screen issue ?

Hi,
I do have an issue with the screen of my SGN :
When the display is dimed at maximum and with grey backgrounds, horizontal lines like shades (in portrait mode) are visible.
It's almost like the screen were dirty.
Is it a special thing on amoled screens ?
Am I the only one with that ?
Thanks in advance for your reaction.
And sorry for my english, I'm french...
My galaxy S had this my GSII had this even worse. It's samsung amoled design...

I have a SGN and I'm afraid I see the same thing. It's primarily on grey backgrounds...but sometimes is slightly visible on white backgrounds as well. Annoying....but the screen is otherwise brilliant. I suppose this is the price we have to pay...but I don't like it one bit ..
search the forum. There are threads about this and other display issues. You are far from being alone. I have sent mine back for this and other screen problems.

Yes, also present on the note... it is only viewable when you dim the screen and have a gray background. For example if you use the ScreenFilter app you can really see all the artifacts and lines. I don't really see this when you have full brightness.

Not got a replacement yet.
I've had two SGN's with these problems so far. The first one I ordered and the replacement I got. The first one I got even had dead pixels and dust behind the screen.
I don't think I will be getting a third one. Samsung really sucks at doing quality phones free from any defects. Just reading the threads about the SGN here on the forum shows that the screen is not the only problem. For an example, the physical buttons stops responding randomly and the note can't play some videos properly while other more older and cheaper phones can... I'm disappointed with these problems and I'm currently using my iPhone 4... Which works without any problem, but unfortunately doesn't have a 5.3" HD screen!!!!!

SG3 flaw on screen

Today i just purchase my SG3 and when I got back to work i saw that my screen had flaws on it. Its really hard to explain but it looks like tiger stripes running down the LCD screen. Looks like the LCD is push against the glass in those areas. I brought it back to Tmobile and at first they had a hard time seeing it but in different lighting, they finally saw it. The rep told me that all their phones were accounted for customers already that I will be able to go back next Thursday to get a replacement.
Sorry to hear about your screen. Haven't noticed any flaws in the screen.

There have been a few rumors, complaints and photos over in the International GS3 forum... Its sad to hear a few bad ones get mixed in. I experienced the same thing with my Transformer Prime..

You should have freaked out on them for holding phones. No reason you should wait a week for a working unit. Did you talk to a manager? If it is a corporate store call t-mobile. They should be correcting this, not brushing you off.

Download Simple plain color images and check for dead pixels...my friend got his and i found one as Iwas watching a video on his GS3
I have a similar issue. It looks like I have a couple areas of "stripes" when the screen is completely black. The stripes are actually more black than the image itself which is black. Going to test solid color images.

could you post a pic to let us know what we should be looking for?
I will tomorrow. If you go throw some solid color images you should be able to see it. My parents saw it and laughed at me. "pssh it's not big deal"
What they don't understand is I've been waiting for this phone FOREVER! I'm upgrading from a Touch pro 2 lol!
---------- Post added at 01:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:19 AM ----------
Btw, I'm using the app called "Display tester" and you can clearly see the stripes in a room with the lights off. Just use the dead pixel test and set the color to black. You might see stripes. I have one line of individual stripes that is about 2 mm thick that runs from the right to the left side of the screen. Then there are two other sets of stripes that look like smiley faces almost; one in the middle and one on the top.

Its a common issue when manufacturing samoled screens from what I have heard. Percentage of defects are supposedly high but it does not affect the viewing experience to the typical user.....aka the small price to pay is worth it for such a beautiful screen otherwise. Nevertheless if your more than the typical consumer and you happen to spot these defects.....a defect is a defect and I guess they have to replace it =/

So I just dropped my phone last night and the screen is cracked...fml..will T-Mobile still replace it even if the manager wrote my name down?!!! It was a light fall too. The screen is weak. I recommend a case for sure now.
My plans
This story is precisely why i only buy in store. When i go to the store to get my S3 on the 27th, im downloading a dead pixel checker app, and running it. Not taking any chances, and not settling for anything short of perfection.

Oh dear... :crying:
I want to add to this, rather than downloading an app, just try this:
dial *#0*#
this should make it go to a menu with colors. just click the color and it will display the full screen in that color.
It works on my vibrant. I dont have the GS3 yet but I imagine this should still work

[Q] Whites Not As Vibrant?

I received my replacement G2 today and while holding it side-by-side with my original G2, I noticed the whites on the new one aren't quite as vibrant. I then met up with a friend who also has a G2 and put all three phones side-by-side. Her phone has the same less vibrant whites as mine did. Neither new device nor my new one had the bright, vibrant whites of my original G2. Is something wrong with the two displays that aren't quite as vibrant, or perhaps my original G2 had something up with its display? It would be helpful if someone could shed some light onto the issue! You can see my old device and new device in the photo below. Unfortunately the photograph doesn't convey the difference as strongly as seeing the devices in person. Yes, both phones have identical display/brightness settings.

Wow, I didn't even notice the logo on the left one wasn't visible in the photo! It's there, I swear, lol.
The right one might look bigger because it's in a case.
I also had the same issue. I prefer the whiter white display but the new replacement I got also was not as white. I think I'll be returning both. Not sure if I should try another replacement or just give up.

At this point I'm debating keeping the one with the whiter whites... This is really frustrating.

What's wrong with the original? I've gotten replacements that I sent back.

The original I had squeaks with little pressure on the sides and back. Very much annoying. Does that happen to you guys too?

No squeaks at all with mine. The original was starting to show color bleed/slight yellow screen discoloration on the left edge. It is very, very minor. I've decided to keep my original phone and send the replacement back.
I have exactly same problem my fathers g2 to is much more brighter then mine. And whites are more clear. Is there anyway to fix it?

s5 grainy screen

Hi everyone.
i dont know if anyone felt the same way like me.
i feel that my s5 is having kinda grainy screen... its like a thin layer of grainy.. so u can see it when u scroll up/down. it stays. its not really crystal clear.. the feel is like putting anti-oil screen protector.
yes, text and everything is crisp.. but a thin grainy layer is annoying.. checked another phone at samsung experience store showing the same
its actually mentioned by s5 review Erica Griffin
do guys feel the same way or it's just my over-obsessive eye? lol i hope i was wrong...
sorry for my bad english...
Coming from an LCD screen, if I look close enough I can see it, but it really doesn't bother me lol
I had that on my Note 2 before. I had it exchanged and the new phone did not have the issue.

I am sure it is not because I already tested a few display samples from 3 different shops, Walmart and Tmobile shops. I tested them because I was considering buying one too. But not anymore, I am waiting for the LG G3.
Just had the same issue.

Ok, let's belive it.
You bought a new phone from the official store or a used one? If used, the screren was replaced without telling you.
The first case: cry at the official store to replace.
The second case: nowhere to cry, live with it.

How about checking screen calibration? Try custom calibration settings.
This looks like normal variation to me. OLED suffers this issue.
I tried display calibration but I don't reach a good result, it's Always yellow/pink
Icon pack? Very strange...
I don't know if all oled have this problem, but it seems less brighter also.. probably is normal
