Hi to all,
My battery is worst since i've updated to last version of firmware (UDMJ7) with the OTA way.
If I flash it with Odin, does my Knox will be enabled (0x0 -> 0x1)?
Thanks for future answers.

Yes, definitely. You won't be able to downgrade back to previous bootloader. Even if it is booted you won't have any sound and data. But you can still downgrade to MJ6 firmware where there are reported case that it is successfully done.
And regarding on your battery issue, just stating your battery is worst doesn't help. I would suggest you to download BetterBatteryStat or WakeLock Detector. Then it will give you a better statistic on what is draining your battery. In fact I find the MJ7 battery life is better than MJ1

Yes! Of course you can flash stock firmware without tripping anything.
Just don't flash rooting files or custom recovery...

If you want to be able to go back to a lower version of firmware if you want, root your phone with URDLV and then install MJ7 with Mobile ODIN Pro....
MOP doesn't flash bootloaders leaving you the option to try any rom you want.
Just be aware rooting with cf-autoroot, flashing custom recoveries or kernels WILL trip Knox counter.

Hello,
I can't find any reliable information for my question.
I'm planning to buy a (used) german Note 3 with MJ7-Bootloader.
Is there any way to root this phone WITHOUT tripping Knox?
I know there are several rooting-methods (e.g. the controversial KingoApp-root), but some of them don't work.
Does KingoApp work? I also know about the security-related things about this app!
Any information would be very useful!
Best regards and thanks a lot

If Official Android 4.4 is on its way to NOTE 3 in the early quater of next year ...why root now and facing upgrading issues later? Morever all the encounters and experiences mentioned here is very inconclusive because majority of the forumers not only do not read first, they also do not know the phone well enough to express clearly how they had rooted their phones ( failures and/or success ).
Be patience is the key. Meantime just wait. I am sure someone will provide a safer rooting for MJ7.
Wait till someone is capable to come up with a safe rooting of MJ7

At this time - No.
I think the only safe way of rooting MJ7 at this point is if you're coming from MJ1 and can root MJ1 first. If I remember correct, MJ3 and above installs a new bootloader which has been patched to prevent RDLV and similar to get around knox. Android 4.4 KitKat is almost here, so I wouldn't worry about it.. I rooted mine just to disable knox but apart from that it's not that much else to do with it.. A few mods with Wanam Xposed if you want, but there's not that much in there that is needed for the Note 3 in my opinion..

What is the relation between rooting or tripping knox and issues getting android 4.4/kitkat later? You are not making sense.
And to OP, there is no way to root and not trip knox counter on mj7 for now.

Getting ota is related to the phone being in official status not knox. Even if you have issue with ota you can just download the official rom and flash with odin. There is no way tripping knox is going to prevent future rom upgrading.

Should I upgrade from MJ7 to KitKat?
An uprage for KitKat arrived on my N9005 and I don't know if I should install it. I have the international Note3 version with MJ7 firmware and I would like to root my phone and install alternative ROM without knox tripping.
Does it make any sense to wait for safe way to root the phone?

KK for me is way much better than JB. Battery life is way much better than JB, and it is much smoother. This is what I've experienced on my phone. So it's your decision to make. But, my suggestion, if you want to upgrade, don't take from OTA, better you flash from ODIN (download the official firmware from samfirmware, and flash it from ODIN), and do a factory reset after that.
If you still want to stay at MJ7, and root it, I can only tell you, up to now I write this, there's still no method for a safe tripping root method for MJ7, because this firmware has a new bootloader for 4.3 which has a samsung patch. And don't ever think to downgrade to earlier 4.3, coz this is also impossible.
If you want to safe your KNOX flag, at the moment, don't root. If you want to root, you have to let go your KNOX flag.
You can wait, but nobody knows how long you should wait. because at the other end, samsung also keep on updating its bootloader.
Choice is yours, mate.
Cheers.

Thanks for a prompt answer! As I'm a bit of a newbie, I would like to ask you, what is the advantage of flashing through Odin? I guess my data won't be deleted and knox won't be affected.
I'm a bit afraid to choose wrong firmware and brick my phone. Is there anything I should be careful about?
I just selected the firmware from sammobile based on the filter model and country. I hope, it's the right one.
Also is the factory reset necessary? I have quite a lot applications with adjusted settings on the phone. After the the factory reset I would need to reinstall everything and also do the settings again.

Flashing full firmware through odin is better. Coz I experienced bad thing through ota before. As well as kies, but could be a bad download though.
Yes u just find a firmware for ur device and flsh through odin.
Btw u can use NC2 czhech... this is the newest.
Factory reset is needed once u complete the flashing and stuck at bootloop. And yes since u r not rooted, I don't think u can backup nd restore ur current apps. So u will need to reinstall after a reset.

Thanks, it worked fine. Everything remained installed, so I don't have to reinstall or restore anything. Also knox if still fine.
But I'm quite disappointed by Samsung approach. I'm missing some features from my rooted SIII, so it's probably only a matter of time before I root the device (with or without the knox).

Not trying to scare u. But u better backup ur contacts, sms, or other stuff from ur internal storage.
My last bad experience was... yes device nver ask to factory reset after update. But after few weeks of usage, it suddenly freeze until very hot, and reboot, and voila... all gone.
This happen to note 2 when upgrade via ota from 4.1.2 to 4.3. and device belongs to my boss, and I m the one who did the ota update. So happy when don't need to factory reset, but I got Fcuk when his data all suddenly gone.
Anyway... no harm back up ur important data.

It would have been interesting to at least try some new test in the process - for instance I have seen some intriguing reports from N900W8 models where they have apparently installed some version of xnote (custom rom pre-rooted) without tripping knox presumably by somehow using stock Samsung kernel and stock Samsung recovery (I repeat, that was THEIR claim, not mine, but more research and testing on the subject would be nice).
I'm one of those people. I installed the Mexican update, then rooted using Cf autoroot, then installed CWM and flashed X-Note with Katturbine kernel and I'm still knox 0x0 :/

1. Do you recommend me to upgrade to kitkat then to have custom rom or just to root my 4.3 then to have a custom rom?

2. Can you please explain what you did step by step instructions to what you did, and if possible providing a link to the Mexican rom you referred to and the same CWM you used.

That sounds very different from what I was expecting, and so far based on that I would say that it mostly seems to be a result of the N900W8 bootloader system rather than something very special that needs to be done when flashing stuff
Question specific for N900W8 - is it possible to downgrade MJ4 -> MJ1 on that phone? (since that would confirm that the W8 bootloader is quite different).

I have a phone which has a lot of problems after the KitKat update.
Now I want to try to reinstall KitKat. Samsung doesn't provide this, so I want to use ODIN and the firmware from SamMobile.
Does anybody know if I will do this that it will trip the Knox counter?
What if you try to just reset the phone to factory settings? I wouldn't know anything about Knox though. Hope you sort it out. :fingers-crossed:

You won't trip Knox if you install a KK rom but will if you try to flash bak JB.
Any form of rooting will trip Knox. There used to be safe ways that didn't but with the introduction of the newer bootloaders this is no longer guaranteed...
Have you tried backing up any info you want to keep to a pc then factory resetting, I found KK was a b!tch until I reset it due to old JB data scraps causing issues...

I'm on stock 4.3 and not having any issues at the moment - other than my Note 3 not picking up the 4G signal on 3 for some infuriating reason.
So can I flash a stock KK rom without rooting then? I'm probably being thick but thought you had to be rooted to flash any kind of ROM?

You have to be rooted to flash the custom roms provided here and that will mostly be thru recovery. It will surely trip knox. To flash stock roms from sammobile you don't need root. That can be done thru odin.

I would suggest however, if you are network locked to unlock 1st... If you need to flash a separate modem afterwards this can trip Knox as you aren't really using a "Stock rom"...
Also make sure re-activation lock is OFF.... If you go to Kitkat and you don't have a KK rom yet you are stuck with a softbricked phone until you do get the KK rom... You can't go back to JB after flashing KK rom due to a new bootloader...
Hi XDA people,
Just found this workaround for rooting latest 4.4.2 stock firmware without tripping Knox.
This method downgrades the firmware(System & Kernel) on your device to N7100XXUEMK4 except for the bootloader.
Dont even try to downgrade the bootloader as this isn't possible.
What you need:
1.Odin v3.09
2.Stock official N7100XXUFND3 firmware on your device.
3. A device with Knox Warranty Void: 0
Procedure:
1.Download N7100XXUEMK4 Stock Rom from HERE
2. Open the downloaded file. You will find 4 .tar.md5 files and an Odinv3.09 zip file inside.
3. Extract the Odin file and setup Odin on your PC.
4. Next extract the file named AP_N7100XXUEMK4_2099172_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
5. Load this file into AP tab on Odin. Connect your phone in Odin mode and flash this file.
( Note : You have to flash only the AP file from Odin. Do not flash the other files namely CP, CSC, BL)
6. Now once the phone has rebooted go back to download mode and check if Knox has tripped or not.
7. Next use Saferoot from HERE to root your device.
(You would find the guide on how to root using saferoot easily over HERE
8. Now if saferoot was able to root your device then you must be rooted without tripping Knox. :good:
9. Now you can easily flash your official firmware through mobile odin. Select Everroot option on Mobile odin while flashing the new firmware. In this way you wont lose root access.
Known Issues:
If after rooting you want to flash custom recovery via mobile odin, or via DR.Ketan's utilities app please note that it will trip knox.
Knox remains cool until your recovery is stock. The moment a custom recovery is detected knox goes 1.
Credits:
@k1mu for saferoot

And I really don't think it would trigger knox that way because the bootloader doesn't check the integrity of the firmware on your device when you're flashing the bootloader itself.
Also it doesn't trigger Knox while it boots up the system and finds unauthorized firmware.
Because we don't have Kernel lock and secure boot like on Qualcomm based N3.

Okay this is all too much for my brain to absorb at this time of the night ,i don't think i actually understand the difference between Knox warranty void and being Knoxed ,i guess since we install de-knoxed ROMs we can't get Knoxed ,just that our warranty goes out the window and we cannot downgrade beyond a certain OS right? If what i stated is wrong then i'll go to bed and dream of knox

Lol. It's paritally right.
Don't worry buddy I'll help you learn Knox
Being Knoxed is getting that extra line in the download mode.
But this doesn't throw away your warranty. Warranty is lost only when this extra line in download mode ends with 1 instead of 0

But wouldn't flashing 4.4.2 BL trigger Knox? I got bit confused with @robalm method
@smeet.somaiya didn't some guy over at general forum under galaxy note 2 india told us that he downgraded from official 4.4.2 to stock 4.3 and his bootloader was downgraded as well?

I cant say for sure if flashing only the new 4.4.2 bootloader via odin will trigger knox, i have not tested it myself.
My post was more of a question from me.

In my opinion that shouldn't trip Knox.
Let us know if you test it.

Have you got any feedback yet?
I do not have the balls to try it, my warranty is still valid and i may need to have it on service in future.

No feedback yet. But one thing i can say for sure that even if this method fails it won't hard rick your phone because we ain't downgrading the BL here.
And I found a similar method on S4 active forums. It seems it works very well.

Yes it would trigger by flashing unofficial firmware.
But here we ain't doing that too.
We're just flashing a older kernel+system partition (the whole PDA from MK4) that was vulnerable to root without tripping knox.

Hey friends:
im a normal member and everything above is only sharing
So you may get upset because of this thread
but i'll make things clear, everytime i open Q&A forum i see repeated questions everywhere
so here ill put some repeated answers about those stuff above
1. knox: well when you buy a new galaxy s5 the knox state will be 0*0 , but when you root your phone, flash custom recovery, custom kernel or custom rom this will trip knox and the knox state will be 0*1 and your warrenty will be void.
P.S: flashing firmware via odin will not trip knox
- so if you want to root without tripping knox you can go to this website : http://www.towelroot.com install apk by pressing the sign.
you will be able to root your phone quick from the phone itself but only if your phone on firmware from 3rd june or less
or your phone will not be rooted, but you can also root it by chainfire method from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696537
you can also use mobile odin to flash firmwares but be carefull to be sure about your phone model.
you can install the app from playstore or from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
P.S: firmwares can be downloaded from here : http://www.sammobile.com
i hope you Moderators understand me and dont get angry or close this thread because im only sharing and thought it will help my friends and the new forum members.
and at last im a member and i have the right to post what it usefull to xda community
hope that i helped.

to flash firmware you can use computer odin v3.09 and then extract the md5 file from the firmware zip and put it in AP in odin (and maybe different version of odin says PDA)
?
What about "System Status", in recovery I have a "System Status: Custom", knox 0x0 though, I'm rooted and use Xposed, what does this mean? how can I reverse it to "OFFICIAL", is this important when it comes to warranty?
THANKS! :highfive: :good: :fingers-crossed:

AFAIK it will be fake, the only way to officially convert it to original is, uninstall root reboot and then reinstall root and SuperSU to user directory, not to system. This method worked for Roms prior to 3rd June.

Ughhhh should have know that before updating and installing SuperSU to system... So no way to revert it if ROM is posterior to 3rd June? Even flashing official ROM again without root? :crying:
THANKS!

Yes you can downgrade, i downgraded from NG2 to NE2 myself without problems. Just flash the NE2 rom with Odin and data factory reset afterwards. Then use TR to root again.

Yes, i only flashed the older firmware without a extra PIT file or bootloader file. Make sure to untick Auto Reboot first in Odin, after the flash pull the battery, wait for 10-20 seconds, boot into recovery and do a data factory reset and then the phone should boot normal and both the firmware and bootloader are downgraded to NE2 and KNOX remains 0x0. At least it worked for me this way and i expect it to work for others the same way
