How to backup and restore apps without rooting? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am getting my note 3 tomorrow. I wanted to transfer my apps+data to my note 3 without rooting it.
Is it possible?
What is the best way to do it?

Oh yeah you can save call log and text if you put it on a sd card just put it in your n3 restore

Use helium backup from google play

Go backup doesnt backup or restore data on unrooted devices. Just up is the topic on helium app. Backs up and restores app+data on unrooted devices. Might want to take a look.

Buying S4 What to do first?

Hi guys
Getting the S4 in a week (maybe 2) and wondered what I should do first before I transfer data over etc.
I want to root my phone so that would be my first objective. What is the best way?
Re the bloatware, is it easily removed as yet and what is worth keeping and not keeping.
For now I would like to keep the rom as it comes (if possible) until such time I choose to change it.
Thanks for your help and advice!

I'll suggest you do a full system backup. Just in case you encounter some problem during rooting, you can always restore back to the backup.
- First of all, enter download mode and flash custom recovery using Odin. I recommend using Philz Touch Recovery.
- Make sure flash is success.
- Boot into custom recovery and do a nandroid backup.

Hi,
Ask your carrier to send you one.
Root and backup your EFS file first.:cyclops:
1)You can root but dont flash custom rom. There is no way to recover/ no stock rom that is 100% failproof. There is an update to mf3 so you need to update and then use the "new root method for att mf3".
2) exchanging files is going to be different. Wheen you plug in the phone, no usb data switcher on 4.2.2. Use samsung link
3) buy an otg cable
4)buy an otterbox
5) fill the phone with apps from 4shared
6) recommend playing with sensor apps because there are many sensors on this thing
I'll add as I think about it.

Important: try not to update and keep mdl and root that way and stop auto updates.
There is a way to root with mf3 if you still want ota updates from att to remain

Just backup in the SD card and then put the SD card to N3 and restore. I did that from s2 to note 10.1 and ended up to note 3
Or you can try helium.

Instead of asking us will the app restore MMS, why don't you try it yourself and see........

KIES will only support Samsung TW Firmware,
Can't backup/export without root I think, cause you'll need a root explorer to move the file off the device and onto the new one. it'll be an .xml or something similar, but depending on the app backing it up depends on where it is stored also.
SMS Backup&Restore worked without problems on Galaxy Nexus, One X, Note 3, Nexus 5, One M8 and Note 4
i use mybackup pro (yes, you have to pay for it). it restores sms and every picture that's been sent to you in an mms. it also restores data, bookmarks, and call logs. i've used it on every android i've had.
Another vote for SMS Backup&Restore :good: Then back it up to DropBox.

Help needed: Jasmine Rom

Hi, I have a Verizon note 3 running Lollipop OF1, rooted, and I want to install jasmine rom. I'm having a hard time finding information that is written in a way I could understand... So my main 2 questions are: how do I install it (jasmine rom) and, will it delete my data if I do?
Thanks.
-Nick
Yes it will delete your data for you need to wipe before installation. Do you have Flashfire app installed?

Yes, I do
Ok download jasmine 6.1 if you haven't already. Start flashfire
Grant permission to run
Press the + button bottom right
Tap flash zip
Chose jasmine zip file(usually in download directory)
Hit checkmark top right
Don't hit flash yet. First
Hit + again and choose wipe.
Make sure top 3 are checked
Hit checkmark top right
Then hit flash..phone go black.
Flashfire will prepare phone for zip. Beautiful writing will scroll past ..black and then you will see it flash jasmine. Then it should reboot and hopefully you will see 4 icons across screen and will be there so long you will think your in a bootloop. .wait.
after a while it will go into setup screen

Jasmine 6.1
How long do you wait? I have done this well over 18 times and all it does is go to the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 logo with the "unlocked" lock and stays there. I've waited for an hour to 45 minutes and never a thing. I always have to re-install OF1 wait a day for it to settle then er-root..... always.

When you set flashfire up make sure the last step is to flash the rom. You have to long press on the steps to move them around. Otherwise you may be installing the rom and then wiping it away.

Mike. It looks fine. We can unlock our phones now. So I suggest you unlock your phone so you can put a recovery on it..then you can install jasmine through recovery after you've backed up your stock. And if you still have issues you can just restore backup.. have you seen the threads about this?

Un-lock.........
I saw two different methods and I tried one but it did not work and the video of the other seemed very cumbersome plus the guy in the video keeps saying Verizon Note 3 but his phone appears to be another version, a N9005 not a N900V. His video is the one I use for trying the Jasmine 6.1 install also.
Send me a good link for the unlock if you could with good instructions. Now I have to re-load OF1 and wait for it to settle then try to re-root again.
Thanks,
GoNavyMike

Jasmine..........
What do you mean by "twice the ADB instructions"? Plus I ALWAYS have to let it settle or it will not take the re-root.
I use to never have a problem rooting or flashing Roms, that was until LL. Not to mention that Titanium Backup is lousy now with LL. It constantly says insufficient space even after I deleted everything off my SD card. My SD card is a 64 Gb so I know I have plenty of space.
Since we're not getting MM, maybe I'll just wait for an exploit on it for my Note 3. I just don't know.

Airplane mode.......
I use airplane mode because where I live I have very lousy reception and it drains my battery fast trying to connect, so I use my wifi a lot at home. I will try regular and see how it works. I re-odined OF1 yesterday and today I re-rooted after I let it settle over night. I then used the .apk to unlock and all is fine it seems, so I will probably try to put either Jasmine or some other Rom on it tomorrow. It seems to always work better if I wait until the next day. I don't know why, but it does. What's the best custom Rom available now for a rooted unlocked Verizon Note 3?

No you really should ..download flashify from google .install it and grant it permission when you open it.. hit recovery. Top twrp install reboot..your recovery will start and you can chose to back up . I would call it stock rooted..to change name within backup click on top where it says auto generated and type whatever you want..then after its done hit home on bottom middle..then you can reboot system. Your all set for jasmine or whatever. It will only go into recovery with button sequence
Have you used a recovery before?

Helium backup does work, I've used it to backup data from my Xperia Z2 then restore that to my S7 Edge. Worked like a charm.
Though I'm not sure it works for all apps or not, the ones I tried, sure worked. Give it a try, no harm to do so.

I beg to differ, one in particular, that is snapchat. Depending on the developer of the application if data backups are or aren't allowed. In my case not being rooted did not work.
