Root? What's the Point? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So we got our shiny new N3's... we all (well 98% of us love them... lets not get technical about the % lol)... the xda devs started working on root...which is awesome.. having some issues getting root figured out (always the case on new and newer devices).....
Really though. What's the point of rooting? It can void your warranty. Possibly set of Knox.. and up until now there is only 1 one click type root function that is under speculation(will leave the name out for threads sake)... which I will not use. If you root do you get rid of alot of the licensing checks on apk's? We always have a lot of mods that we can add. I agree the bloat ware blows... but its still quite fast.... and if u got a nice size sd card... it doesn't matter that much... We can't flash roms yet so thats a negative for now.... So again.. what's the real point to root?
I'm sure nobody that's rooted cares that much to do so.. but if you feel inclined... explain some real solid reasons for rooting.. and the method that works without tripping knox.(this phone will eventually go back to verizon).... if you need to pm me please do so....

Seriously, just do a search. This has been discussed ad nauseum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=root or not
If you're the type of person that has to ask, then rooting probably isn't for you.

I root to remove bloatware, customize the phone in ways that are otherwise impossible, and just to have the freedom to do whatever I want (at least within the confines of the locked bootloader, grrr). I have used iOS for years, and my main issue with it was the restrictions Apple placed upon the system. I would find x or y thing I didn't like, but had no control over it. I fail to see the point of Android if you can't do what you like to it. Otherwise it's just a locked-down OS from a different vendor.

I've rooted every device I've ever had on android.... 4.3 is starting to get to the point where we have most of the bells and whistles... Now I don't get down to the coding and programming (how many of us really do) but I love to take advantage of things that otherwise couldn't... simple app mods don't incline me enough to lose warranty. I rom probably would... Just saying it's not that i'm a dummy not understanding what root is... it's that its kind of iffy at the moment.... if someone knows 100% that it won't trip knox and you can revert back I'd give it a shot... I haven't seen that option yet that is 100% proven and cleared by xda or any other reputable sites.....
(pm me if there is something i need to know... i hold no one accountable)
only thing i could see as a definite positive to me is rom toolbox... amazing app.... able to freeze apps/back up etc..

agreed.... at that point i would take that plunge... (root would be better then too i'm sure(devs making things proven more and more)) shutting down svoice would be good too.... alot of that stuff would take a rom to really be a "kitkat" so i don't see the rush and still see no real reason to root at the moment..... anyone else? lol
that link sent me to a page with seveal posts and didn't see the one that you quoted.. nauseum? repost?

Well, only if ROMs are available.
I'm with the original poster on this subject. I've rooted and ROMed my phones since forever. But the goal was to change the ROM. Until a ROM is available for the N3 there's no compelling reason to root. Yeah, TiBu is nice to use but Helium is adequate. (I used Helium to move my apps from N2 to N3).
Getting rid of bloatware? That's a political decision, not a practical one. People say that because "they're rebelling against the man." This phone is so ridiculously fast that bloatware does nothing to harm performance. If you don't like seeing it in the app tray then just use a launcher that lets you hide things in the app tray.
Don't like Touchwiz? I haven't found a ROM that I like either. TouchWiz is not perfect, but neither is AOKP, Omni, CM or many other ROM interfaces.
Yes, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (original Tab) is rooted with a 4.3 ROM. It's the only way to get past ICS. But phones are different. I get a new one about every 6 months or so. I don't worry about what Verizon will do with the N3 in 2015. Most people on XDA are similar, so it's a moot point to argue about lack of support down the road.
I keep watching but there's been no compelling reason for me to root this phone. I want to, yeah, but where's the reward other than the pure joy of rooting? Most respond here with vague things about doing it their way, bloat or all of these apps that make life wonderful. I say show me. And it must be compelling. I want to, I just can't justify it.

I don't think you'll ever see a 100% assurance on that. I've rooted my Note 3 with both Root De La Vega and Kingo, flashed the phone a few times with Odin, installed Beans' rooted stock, and still have 0x0 on my Knox counter, fwiw.

I have no interaction with it at all either.. only time is when I use my s4a ear "buds?".... amazing sound with a mic and button.. when i hold the mic down though s-voice pops up and i don't want it too... can't get away from it as it sits (might try a diffferent music player..... not a real problem though.. just a small annoyance

good to know.. thanks.. just read a thread where hyperdrive rom is up...... (was my rom of choice for my s3).... definately making a case for rooting now.. but still want that easy root.... the one you mentioned is still too iffy........... and root de la vega... seems intimidating with all the typing...... don't have hours to sit... go through several stops and not make a single boo boo and brick it or trip it....... the other ting.. msg me if u have any type of proof its clean... can't really go into discussion in threads on that.... too many people may read and take that plunge while it is still a bit foreign to the dev base

[Q] I've searched, no one asked: Should I root my Vibrant?

Ok...
No one has debated or have asked this question:
Should I root my Vibrant?
I'd like to actually see a debate whether or not rooting is better or stock is better. I know you have to root in order to do custom ROM, but what I'm trying to achieve on this thread is, the benefits of rooting (since I know there are plenty). I just want to give noobs and new users of Vibrant the flexibility of deciding whether they need to root, or not. I myself, have a rooted vibrant, and LOVE IT.
So, is rooting for me? Should I root the Vibrant? Or stick with the stock?
P.S.
I used "me" as an example. It isn't necessary that I want to ask the question, i just thought it's better if i put "me" on the question...
Rooting is ALWAYS better.
Certainly the VAST majority of people do not need to root their phones for any reason. I have several friends with Vibrants that are quite happy with their phones as-is.
You gain absolutely nothing by rooting your phone, there is absolutely no difference in any way shape or form except you can now do modifications that non-rooted phones can not. The question isn't whether to root or not, the question is whether or not you want to do something with/to your phone that requires root access.
For me, I would have had to stick with my Blackberry simply to have tethering ability, it is a feature I have had to use many, many times. Since I never got Kies working right, I had no choice but to root in order to install MobileAP which has been a real life saver for me when I absolutely had to have internet access on my laptop and their was no alternative. This is the same reason I had to root my wife's 3G Slide. She absolutely has to have internet access and it is her only means to get it in some places.
That will probably be the only reason for her. Me, being a techie, I have flash Franken-Twiz, Bionix 1.8, 1.9, and am now running Fusion and absolutely love my phone now.

Well put. Hopefully this would bring light to new users.
Personally, rooting is a must for me, because of the fact I'm always on the road, having a tethered phone has an advantage.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I rooted because I could...
I like the ability to do different things with my phone - I'm not one to leave it stock if I don't have too.
but it's weird, I haven't jailbroke my ipod yet - never really felt the need to nor the desire.
with my phone (and this is my first android) it just seemed like the right thing to do, then after bricking during the OTA I dived right into flashing ROMs and overclocking...yeah, rooting like a gateway drug...and I'm so happy...
but I was the noob on rooting/flashing/ etc up until the other week...and now I have a flashing problem...hahahaha
I rooted my phone just to delete the bloatware.
There is a whole section of "things to do with root" in the general sticky....
I mean, that IS the reason to root... to open up options.
Want to control which apps can open at startup? Want to tether? Want to flash a custom rom? Want to overclock the processor? Want to get rid of bloatware? Want to create backups of your phone for an "oh $hit" moment?
I really do not see any reason not to. Especially since it is so easy to get back to stock/non-root.
I owned a G1 previously and never thought rooting was for me. Less than 2 weeks after getting my Vibrant I decided to give rooting a go and instantly loved it. I was actually mad at myself afterwards for not even considering rooting my G1 and running stock for almost 2 years. I don't even use custom ROMs but I love being able to take screen caps, Mobile AP, and being able to block ads.

That depends on who is using the phone. I mean for someone that doesn't care for rom or doing anything other than making phone call, text, and browse the web, he or she will not really need to root. They will not find root better. Like my GF thinks root is too much work and hassle. For me, I think root is better since i actually like to try new roms and get updates before the OTA. Root will give you the ability to tether and use custom recovery to backup/restore.
Now to the OP, it just depends on what you are looking to do with your phone. If you are just using it to make calls and browse the web, you can just keep it unrooted. If you plan to use tethering or make any system changes, you will need to root. Also, if you root, it doesn't mean you have to do anything else to your phone. You can still keep it in its stock form and have the option to do whatever you want later. It's up to you.

Just Root the phone and make it more versatile, delete the bloat and do what and when you want to the phone YOU own
I personally never like outside controls on objects that I buy.... neither would Shakespeare
Rooting is always better unless you are only interested in the retail version only type device.
Listen to Kerry G he has it right
Tether
Just a note! I can tether with PDAnet using bluetooth and I'm not rooted.
Rooting isn't a requirment to tether, However there may be other options that do require root access.
Great feedback.

Lol, somehow i knew s15274n would reply. Not many people know that rooting is a good thing or a bad thing. They don't know that they got options. I've been reading and been surfing on XDA for a long time, I had an old handle here, when WinMo was popular. But then when i got promoted, I started to be on the road, i've lost touch (and my account i closed).
Many people I encounter across the country don't know why they should root, or skeptical to root. Since I got the Vibrant, i rooted it right away, and plenty of my clientèle are amazed of what that Android phone can do. Most have Crackberry, and I've led them to this site and found it very usefull.
They don't see the stickies, or such, so i made a thread that i could access on my phone to show them. They ask the same thing all the time, "Should I root/Why do you root/I'm afraid to root/I don't know Andriod" Most of them don't have the time to read stickies. SO, i tell them. But I tell them of what MY opinion is (and why I wanted to root), and so i decided to thread and ask other people's opinion on why they would root.
Great feedback guys

Proud new 10.1 owner...Thinking of rooting..

does rooting this tab and isntalling a custom rom make a huge difrence as far as speed and battery life? im interrested in doing it, but want to make sure it is worth it...i know it always has been on my android phones...
thoughts?
Personally, I believe it to be an improvement. I'm running Paris v4 rom at the moment and it's exceptionally fast and smooth. I noticed lag when sliding between screens without the rom and it annoyed me enough to try Paris. I would never go back.
Rooting lets you fully use your Tab imho.
im a new owner too, and i wanna know does the rooting break the warrenty from the seller or can you unroot it if something happends to it ??
It can be unrooted. not sure on the warranty question.

I have always believed in staying stock until rooting and ROM'ing my G2x. The difference was more than night and day; more like the sun and the planet that was, Pluto. You are doing your Tab & yourself injustice if you don't root it.
Having a Titanium Backup of your apps comes in handy & among other stuff.
This thread has the worst advice i've seen across the entire XDA-Developers website.
DO NOT ROOT UNLESS YOU HAVE A REASON TO ROOT
Rooting allows you to make administrative changes only. This means you have the ability to use it as you would a Linux computer.
You will not get a speed boost.
You will not get magic abilities.
You will gain the ability to completely destroy your tab.
You will gain the ability to run malicious apps to their full potential.
Do not root unless you have a reason to root.

Starting a post with a general insult, writing in huge font, and giving no useful information. Over 2000 posts, called "recognized developer," and you're still trolling? Bad form, dude.
+1 for installing a custom ROM. Sure, anyone using these forums should know that rooting won't do any of this for you. But a custom ROM will...
Don't listen to anyone but yourself on this issue. Go to the development section and look over some of the ROMs posted and what they offer in terms of features/improvements. Then read some of the user reviews/comments in those threads, as well as any particular issues any of the ROMs are having. Then take a look at what you can do with root access that you can't without it.
Then I would say use your tab for a few days. If you feel yourself wanting to try out those ROMs or those things that need root, than do it. If your device makes you happy as is and you don't feel like doing it, than don't. That's the best advice anyone can give.

If someone EVER asks "Should I root"? The answer should ALWAYS be "no".
Remember this line: With great power, comes great responsibility.
Would you give a gun to someone who does not know how to use it? Root has the same potential to destroy your device as a gun has to kill you. Rooting just to "root" is ridiculously dangerous and should never be done.
How many times have you seen someone say "Hey, I've rooted my device, what cool apps can I run"? You don't root your device and then look for things to run.
If someone asks "Should I root my device" and has no reason, the answer is NO! under no circumstances should you root your device unless you have a reason you NEED root capabilities.

I'm not real into Android Dev humor, but I know computers (Windows) almost inside and out. I take it this would be the Android version of the common joke "Delete System32"?
What exactly does that command do, if I may ask?
He clearly stated in the OP that he has rooted his previous android devices and put roms on them. He was specifically asking if he should with THIS device.
He was maybe wondering if the device is fast enough to not need a custom rom. The answer to his question:
No device is fast enough :-D
And definitely not this one.
i think I read some post that if you root your tablet that the android market place will not let you purchase movies ... not sure if that is still true or not
@OP: I've rooted some other devices and when I picked up this device I was unsure... I finally did it one day after reading and reading and reading and watching a video or two I rooted... I flashed the overcome 1.2.1 rom and it really made a noticeable difference in speed. This was my reason to root my device and its good enough for me and if I damage it then its my fault and I take the hit for it simple enough...
I was in your exact same position a couple weeks ago, try rooting it and flashing " in parisv4" youll love it. Night and day speed difference
Edited:I rooted my Gtab so that I can play Hulu and be able to take advantage of the custom roms tweaks like the ability to overclock/underclock. More quality apps on the market like juice defender, Titanium backup, wifikiller, wifitether and so much more when rooted. Yes if your just looking to change the look of your home screen then just go download a launcher. But sine I rooted its hard to go back to stock. Currently I'm using Bindroid v2.0
There's no "need" to root. Running ADW allows me to customize the look, and to be honest, I don't get screen lag. People want to run custom roms... great. Does it do anything other than let you feel more in control? Not really. As for Hulu, I don't find myself wanting to watch much that's on there. Now... if you had said HBOGO, that would be a different story.

+1. Rooting is considered a toy. But it is very dangerous indeed... I have come acroos apps that can brick a device irreversibly. And, yeah, it voids the warranty, although you can unroot.

This is a fancy toy so once you get bored I would start looking into root/custom rom. Not before then.. Btw, Task650 & Phantoms In Paris v5 is a very nice rom to start with!

If you are on the AT&T S4 that has been updated to MF3 we will have to wait until a bootloader exploit is found. There is NO ETA for this and it may take a while... maybe never. Just keep an eye on one of our many bootloader threads and pledge to pay the dev if you want to help motivate.

You are correct, there is currently not a way to flash custom roms.

Thanks for that information. That is a bummer to hear the realistic possibility that it may never come. I guess I would be extremely bummed as rooting is the main reason I came to Android and bought the S4. I was naive in the sense I thought all S4 were the same. Little did I know there was so many variations. I even came to the forums before I bought it but everything seemed like a foreign language coming from iOS.
Any idea who I might be able to talk to to Pledge some cash to see that it gets worked on?
And also is there any way to see a MOD about this captcha restriction lol!

Thanks for all that info. I am an idiot honestly that's all that can be said. I should have done a little more research before I made a purchase. I traded my iPhone 5 with a little cash on top for a brand new Galaxy S4 on AT&T (My carrier) had I known all of this before I would have searched Craigslist for a T-Mobile version and then sim unlocked it for AT&T...
Guess I learned my lesson, I really wish I could afford to go buy a T-Mobile S4 too but they sell for like $500-$600 out of contract.... Just can't do it and I am stuck with AT&T right now. Meanwhile my buddy who told me I should buy an S4 is laughing his rooted and recovered ass off right now lol...

What can you do with a root if you are not able to install custom roms?
Is there anything I could do in the meantime that would improve the functionality or performance of my phone?

You can install a lot of mods which will archive a lot of the same things as a custom rom. You can remove bloat, theme, add things... it is pretty awesome. See the development sections and the themes and app sections to see all the awesome stuff. Some people always stay with stock and just add mods

...you can also do some serious damage, and without recovery, you can easily "Brick" your device... Please be careful what you remove/change/mod, as if you bootloop or fubar your current OS, you will NOT be able to Odin Back to stock to recover just yet...
removing some of the Samsung Apps will break things when they are removed, and TiBU can't always put them back... for now I just froze all the bloatware, and won't remove anything until there is a way to go "Back to Stock"
Hope this helps.

Yeah, thanks for clarifying, I should also let the OP know I have the S4 Active which has the ability to ODIN back to stock if something goes wrong. I do not know if you will have that pleasure so think twice and read before trying anything
I have decided I probably won't take advantage of the root until I can safely make a recovery. I actually posted a $25.00 pledge (I know it isn't much) towards finding a fix for newer users of the S4. People who have to warranty their phones will likely have the update installed.

That's probably a good choice and you can enjoy the S4 i337 without doing anything, it is a great phone.
Of course, rooting -basic rooting using the new technique for the MF3 rom-- seems to work well enough for many so far. So please don't view it as jumping off a cliff and hoping to find a vine on the way down or something so bleak.
For your model, which does not currently have as many recovery options as the earlier MDL versions, it certainly pays to be careful and also to understand your options for return or exchange if you do muck up the phone. The trick is to understand the specific risks up front. In this case, what can go wrong in the rooting process and how often does it seem to occur.
Read the XDA thread on this new rooting exploit for MF3 and see exactly what others did to get root without ruining their phone -and do only and exactly the steps that have worked for others. The rooting process takes only a couple of minutes --but so does bricking your phone when it rooting is done incorrectly.
The differences between success and failure are:
1. How much you understand of the procedure?
2. How much you have prepared in advance for what you are doing and trying to accomplish? and
3. How carefully and patiently are you doing each and every step of the process?
I've rooted several phones and tablets and been fortunate to get it right most of the time, or to be able to recover when I did not get it right. Unfortunately, in your case it appears that you need to get it right the first time for rooting, and many many folks have. So while this is very different from the iPhone "click on this site and you're jailbroken" approach, it is not low-percentage surgery either :good::good::fingers-crossed: So, I'd recommend that you continue to read up on that new root technique for MF3:
-- read to see how it is being accepted, what kind of feedback folks have and also
-- how safe/or comfortable folks seem to be in using it. and
-- what problems have come from trying it -bricks? soft bricks? recoverable or not?
I've read the original post (OP) on the exploit, but not all the information is in the one thread.. I am sure there are several threads that echo this development. . . Might have even more information too. After, that you will know if you want to try the rooting step. Or not.
Good Luck!
P.S.
- While root does not sound as valuable as being able to switch roms and use full customizations, it does provide quite a bit. For example: you can add (root-requiring) apps like "Titanium Backup" (which not only backsup all of your programs and data, but also can "freeze" programs that are useless and running in the background when you don't want them to do so!) Or Greenify, which has the same functionality for dealing with unwanted apps (better actually!) and apps like Cerberus to help you keep track of your phone or find it if lost.
- Rooting to add these types of add ons, without fiddling with some of the more invasive mods that others have already warned about in the other posts, may be acceptable middle ground for you -it does provide customizations for your phone without stretching the safe use limits very far.
Take your time. . . keep reading and move at your own pace. It's hard to come here, start reading and simply "get it" on first bounce. . .It's just a shame that your friend with the older S4 didn't provide a couple of hints or tips about which versions to by ("buy the red ones"... :laugh so you could have picked up one that is easily customizable. . .(of course if you are still in the 14 day window you might go back and try to exchange for another one and look for a MDL version -according to some posts they seem to be the red ones that no one wanted to buy early on . . . . hmm
Good Luck!

Well my Galaxy S4 on MF3 I actually bought on craigslist so the only exchange options are through the manufacturer. What I ended up doing was going to AT&T and using my upgrade to buy another S4 I just told the sales Representative to look on the side of the box for MDL software version or I was not going to upgrade. He was happy to make the sale. Now I have two s4

I would think it's just one published kernel exploit away. My interpretation of the Knox Warranty piece is it gets flagged when you flash improperly signed files. Finding an exploit that is done while running Android may not set the warranty flag.
I see a lot of threads now are offering money to someone who makes a rom, perhaps those interested could pledge something(including me) which might sway someone to making something...... just a thought
I rooted and don't really give a crap about tripping Knox.
I've made ROMs in the past, but I need the source files. Right now I'm waiting for either Samsung or someone else to publish the files for MK1 and I might do something with that.

Who cares about a KNOX free root it trips KNOX no matter what if you have a custom recovery. Plus I dont care about warranty. I have never had to return anything due to warranty. I have had 4 iPhones,4 androids, 2 ipads and I figure if its not messed up in the first 30 day then nothing will happen and if it does it will happen past the one year warranty.
Plus it sucks everyone raised money for BEAN and he bolted that was pretty uncool.

I have to agree. I have been using android and Winmo devices for a long time including tablets. I have rooted then all and have never had to return one to the manufacturer. I rooted last night (I rooted my Note III the day I got it). SInce I have never had to use a warranty, the benefits of rooting outweighed preserving the warranty. Nothing like being able to use such great apps as Titanium Backup or Ad-away to enhance my experience with my device.
Regardless, a 0x0 root would be nice for those of us who want to retain warranty. Not interested in installing a custom recovery anyway if it trips knox. Those of you who didn't care are rooted already.
I'm not giving anyone money on a promise. I'd donate afterwards. Too many times I've read people getting screwed by shady devs.

^^^ This.
For me, it's not so much that I care about the warranty (the place I bought it from allows holiday returns through 1/31/2014, so I could even trip KNOX and still return it), it's just that there's so little dev activity on this device, including just a stock rooted ROM, that you don't want to trip KNOX or else you're likely not getting KitKat.
The latest 4.3 update for the Note 2 phone brought KNOX to the Note 2. I was running basically stock rooted anyway, but at least there's a little more dev activity on the Note 2 so a KNOX-free stock rooted ROM was released very quickly after the OTA.

This is my policy for everything in my life -- not just dev projects on XDA. I don't pay for something that doesn't yet exist and/or isn't proven/working yet. I also think that if devs buy their own hardware they end up more committed to the particular device rather than putting out one ROM to justify taking the bounty and then moving on to the next device bounty (with no updates, maintenance, fixes, etc.).

That's not how a pledge works. If you've read about something happening it wasn't done in the proper way. A pledge is when you promise to out forward a certain amount of money when a certain goal is reached. If that goal isn't reached to your satisfaction then you don't send the money. That is that. But better not get caught asking for support on the item in question....

Warning about root

if you root this phone and trip knox fuse counter. you will NEVER EVER be able to use the great feature of MST through samsung pay.
My thoughts . since we have a non root hotspot and all bloatware (which isnt that much) can be disabled
the phone has so much customization incl uded i am not rooting the phone. the battery lasts 2 days easy with medium
use. no bugs at all i can find. what more can you ask for.
Remember Root no MST (mst is the ability to use the old card swipers at any location with the phone. it sends card you addeds magnetic strip info to the swiper )
UNLESS you can root without tripping the know counter. its unreversalble
carry on
First phone I've owned that I dont see myself rooting. I really like the Samsung Pay.
Yea I'm coming from the S6 and couldn't use it but enjoying Samsung Pay now
You don't have to worry about that. All US versions are locked down. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3327399
After 8 generations of HTC phones, I decided to try Samsung this year as M10 rumors were they were ditching Boomsound my favorite feature of the M phones. I felt edge was far superior this year at least based on the rumors which getting this close to launch are usually spot on. I was well aware that I was going to have to decide to trip knox or not if I wanted root. While there is more customization and control with Android 6 it still doesn't compare to having everything wide open, especially if you are use to S-OFF.
Is the trade off worth it? Well I think so at least right now, this device is superior to pretty much anything out at the moment. I'm already missing Xposed, Titanium Backup & AdAway. The lock down on these devices is just getting so bad, while I understand they shouldn't come rooted out of the box but give us a choice. We may not even have the option of tripping Knox at this point. Part of the reason I stayed with Sprint for so long is they were more friendly with unlocking phones then big red but everything seems to be going the wrong direction.
Even if root is granted, it will just be patched and it's only going to get more secure and difficult each generation. I guess we just might have to start accepting that this is just how it is. Kinda sad, I'm just so use to having it even back in the Windows Mobile days I was running custom roms.

as stated above there a option to
unlock the bootloader in Dev options. im not sure all the details because i see no benefit to root right now but
they do have the phone rooted and they are modding kernels and system as wee speak. also custom recovery.
TWRP will inject root upon install and start up to reboot.
This is just a warning about root to anyone so they know the Deal with Samsung pay and MST
I do see it says 900f but theres numerous reports of it working on the 900P

Samsung pay is the only way to use MST or use ur phone for old card swipers. But thats your call
Samsung pay is useless to me. And as far as I can tell that's the only benefit to not rooting. I've read there are other benefits but that's the only one I've seen posted, Other than warranty.
To me; rooting is more beneficial. Removing advertising is the biggest. Then a basic debloated rom is second. Adding apps that are not usable on non-rooted phone would be my third reason.

That was one thing google did right back in the day with wallet, you could link any card. Still looks cool but ad block is one of the main reasons I root as well. I'm giving AdGaurd a shot (I use that on my desktop) and you can side load it to Android it creates a local VPN connection to the app to filter all traffic. Kinda annoying you always have a notification saying it's running also doesn't block youtube ads which Xposed worked awesome for that. I miss TI as well. Warranty void I feel so so about. S-OFF you could at least remove a tampered flag on an HTC although HTC would still have record of you doing a dev unlock token even if reset everything.
