[Q] Help! Car Dock Mode not working - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All
I'm extremely used to be using Car Dock Mode with Audio Out on my Galaxy S2 while driving (plug into the original dock, and all was automatically switched to the car mode)
Now, with my fresh S4, I wanted to have the same... I know that there is no original Smart Car dock for S4, but I wanted to do a small DIY with an regular dock, by sticking the S2 Dock circuit board to the regular dock.
As described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820275&page=18
Resistors are supposed to be the same as for the S2, so it should work fine, but id doesn't work whatsoever... what's worse, the battery is not charging.
I was trying different ROMs and kernels, but neither of them seem to work.
has anyone had a chance to apply this patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32688111#post32688111
or maybe able to make the Car Mode working other way

[Q] TF shuts off immediately when docking

Hey everyone,
HC 3.1
My TF completely shuts off when connected to the keyboard dock. It also refuses to turn on when connected to the dock, but both the dock and tablet charge just fine separately. It's pretty hard to debug since there's other feedback on the keyboard besides the charging & caps lock lights. As far as I can tell, the dock will charge in a reasonable time (~2 hours), but since the TF won't stay powered on the unit, I'm not sure if I can discharge it quickly. Happened once using the TF+Dock for ~5 hours with light web browsing.
Haven't been able to get them to play nice since. The dock DID have a high-pitched sound when it was working on the TF, not any more now that the TF crashes every time its plugged in. The dock no longer charges the tablet either weather its plugged in or not. I'm pretty sure the keyboard firmware should be the latest, .209 or so since I had updated it the the HC3.1 release.
Possible Causes:
-Software problem in the dock
-Bad wiring?
Possible Fixes:
-safely discharge the dock [somehow...], hope it resets
-re-flash the dock [somehow...]
-re-flash the TF back to 3.0.1, see if that works...
-rooting...?
-open the dock, continuity checks, careful soldering [if it's a wiring problem...]
-return & try my luck with another one...
Factory reset to 3.1 doesn't seem to change anything at all, but any other software approaches are more than welcome. Also, haven't experienced Asus CS yet, but from what i've read i'm not having the highest expectations for this problem.
Thoughts?
-B
bdanque - did you ever find any kind of solution to this? My brother's tab started exhibiting the exact same behavior today (we bought ours at the same time) and he is not in the position to return his dock so I'm hoping there is a fix available without having to replace the dock??

In-dash Install - My Setup and Need Info/Advice

So, I have had my Nexus 7 installed in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma for 7 months. I use the Behringer UCA202 DAC($20). I am a cheapo so I preferred $20 over the $76 Fiio E10K that is supposed to be better. I also like that I have a mic input that works on the UCA202. Makes voice search and phone calls possible. Grounded the outside of the rcas to the chassis to help with the electrical noise. Used Premium Monoprice RCA cable to also help with the electrical noise. ($7) Using Alpine KTP-445U($114) to amplify the tablet audio output to the speakers. (Rockford P1675-S in the front and P1675 in the rear, $200) I needed my steering wheel controls to work so I used the Joycon EXR Steering Wheel Interface ($58). Its setup took a couple hours but after I completed the setup I have had ZERO issues with it, LOVE IT! Please note that the Joycon EXR will only work for analog steering wheel controls. You would need the EXC($92) for CAN, IBUS, resistive, and digital steering wheel controls. Used a cheap usb otg charging adapter for allowing usb otg while charging. Be careful with these some cords will allow this, some will not. Pay attention to reviews to get some insight but even then it's a shot in the dark. You also need to make sure that it is a high quality cable so that the wire gauge can handle the current for fast charging. RTL2832U DVB dongle for being able to receive FM stations on the tablet. Also used a cheap 4 port usb hub. Used three of the ports for DAC, EXR, DVB.
Okay, all done with my setup. Now on to getting some advice. I used to use Timurs Kernel for 5.1, cost me $20. It worked okay but it would often freeze when I shut off my truck so the tablet would then reboot after 20ish seconds. 3 months after I bought LP Timur came out with MM. But, he wanted me to pay for that one as well. Hell no. I emailed him, he wouldn't upgrade me without paying. Didn't want to pay for his kernel in the first place so there was no way I was going to pay for it again. So... I decided to take on the setup of the tablet for Fixed install on my own. I installed Cyanogen Mod (13.0-20160827-NIGHTLY) with the Elemental X kernel version 3.16 (last reported version to include working usb otg + fastcharging) Well I get charging + usb otg but its not fast charging. No big deal, I can deal with that for now.
The problem I am having is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how timurs kernel would only lose 1% of batterylife in 12 hours when the truck was turned off. I have tried multiple things, done a ton of research and nothing seems to get close to 1% for 12hrs. The best solution I have found is using the apps Greenify, No Wakelock, and Force Doze as well as disabling Google Sync completely. This has gotten me down to about 8% for 12 hours. When I previously used Tasker as the overall solution I was losing 12% for 12 hours. (disable WiFi and location, enable airplane mode, enable battery saver)
Anyone have any tips to improve the drain while my truck is off?

Dex mode not working

Lately I can't seem to get my s8 to go into Dex mode. I've used this adapter for about a year and it's always worked fine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078W4RXGR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xYhyCbK7D7EWR
I use an official Samsung fast charger with it.
I've never had any issue with this adapter but Dex mode started acting up a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the official Dex pad on Amazon thinking that my adapter was dead, and it seemed to fix the problem, but the problem started happening again today.
Basically, when I plug my s8 into the dock it shows the Dex logo on the phone and then the phone screen goes off. I can tell that the monitor that I'm using notices that something has been plugged into it as the power button changes from an orange light to a white light. But after a few seconds the power button light on the monitor changes back to orange like it's not getting a HDMI signal.
I've tried using a different HDMI cables and a different monitor as well as different chargers.
It's like no signal is coming out of the Dex pad. I thought maybe the USB c port on my s8 might be messed up. Anyway, I've been searching through some forums and haven't been able to resolve the issue so I'm posting here. Any ideas?

car charger

Hi,
I use EVO 10 to run Waze navigation in my car and I'm looking for a charger that can cope with that load.
What charger I've got now (ISY QC 3.0) is failing in such case and this phone quite annoyingly places a large overlay dialog box almost covering the entire screen...
Anyone had success choosing a better car charger?
Thanks
Update: Solved, bought a samsung charger.
And the cable itself was also playing a role in charging failure.
