[Q] Device Heats up - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After the first start I felt very hot device camera in the back
I found a solution by removing the memory card, I think it helped.
I formatted the card and put back and it seems fine.
I installed the CPU heat testing applications and Normal mode CPU temperature is about 40 degrees
Is this normal?
Is the proper temperature?

just disable KNOX on settings security .. also force stop on application manager (all) klms agent knox knox notification knox store .. clear cache force stop ..and your temp will drop down ... remove also sd card put it back again

here is mine been using youtube also

also a terror in regard to temperature and battery usage is the system process "android.process.media"!
it scans the media on your device, if you have dozens of picture and music folders on your external SD (like me),
then this process goes mad almost for sure!
you can check for example with "system panel" (you have to activate an option to show system processes),
scroll down the list until you see the process "android.process.media", for me this process is running almost
all the time and heats the device up!
one solution is the program "rescan media root", it disables this process. after an initial scan of the sd the
process is no more necessary , at least i never encountered a negative impact on disabling it!
go ahead, try and see for yourself!

Because your ambient temp and usage might be different from mine, your average temps will be different. Therefore because the variables are different, the "average" will also be different.
Now if you just want a number, mine runs 80-90*

I thank you for your answers in advance and sorry for my amateur questions,
What is the difference between red and blue represent?
I notice that the red rising faster than blue ...

Have you guys updated your firmware after you bought it?
Or try roll back to factory state (you'll lose all data thou)
Or try reflash current FW..

Hello everyone
Although some of you reassured me ... Unfortunately I'm still annoyed!
Do you have a recommended application integrity checking CPU and heat in particular?

Here is mine
A few days back when my phone went off for alarm, I picked it up and dropped it instinctively because of how hot it was. It was in a flip cover on charge and it seems the screen was on all night... Never felt a phone that hot before. I immediately took out the battery and left it for about 10 minutes to cool down. When I went back I saw the battery graph showed constant 'Awake' and Wifi on. Don't know what caused this. I went into developer settings because I knew there was a setting for 'keep screen on when charge' but that was also off, the screen timeout was 30s. Is there some other thing that could've kept my device awake. It seems there was no damage but the phone was hot as hell.

Display problem !!!

Hi friends.... all fine?
i have a problem with my Desire hd .... a display problem... i have the AUO display
When I turn the screen (I remove him from stanndby) appears for a moment a vertical strip. Then he goes immediately away
this occurs only when the brightness of the display isn't set at minimum.. if the brightness is set to maximum or minimum it happens ...if the brightness set at minimum it will NOT happen
here is the video .. so you can look what is the problem
look the video
i have the original rom froyo 2.2 ... software 1.32 ... and i have make a format ... now i don't know what to do...
help me please... and sorry for my bad english
sorry, I can't help you with your problem, but in my opinion that looks like a hardware defect. I'd bring it in for a repair simply to prevent this issue from turning into something worse.
On another topic: to improve visibility of stuff like that, you should set your camera to manual exposure. Also, y did you film your phone, play that video on your computer and then film your computer screen?
btw: here's a frozen frame showing that line:

Hello, meanwhile, thanks for the answer
i made the video with my professional camera... and the weight of the file was 143mb ... so... after the video...i have play it with my pc and i have made another video with my desire hd... so the weight is only 6mb
eheh...
you mean that's a hardware problem? but why it does not happen with minimum light of display?
Hey, no problem at all But I still thinkt that there should be a better way to compress a video

are you sure it doesn't happen or could it be that it happens, you just can't see it (as the line would be darker or maybe some other effect that delays the backlight-on until the line already disappeared, or ...)?
Another way to eliminiate a software problem: just turn your phone off and back on, does the vertical line appear or not? (at that time there should'nt be a lot of software loaded that could mess with this)

when the display light is on minimum it does not happen... i'm sure... nothing... zero...
but when i turn on the phone it happen... grrrrrrr... so it's not a software problem... it happens not when you turn on the display .... but when the cell raises the brightness...
what a pity

what do you mean by that? Does the line appear when you set the screen brightness to minimum and turn it up afterwards? (so basically slide the brightness-selector from min to max and back)

no no ... I think the problem is related to the fact that it is caused when the cell has to raise the brightness as I have set this
if I put the brightness to a minimum the display does not give that problem powering up
so i think that the brightness case the problem and not the switching on
any supportfor me please?
i think i have to go in htc/support
beacuse i have make flash... change radio... change kernel... change rom ... and the problem persist
Simply run the 1.32 RUU, then root it and do radio S-ON (IF you have it now, otherwise there's no need to do that), then unroot it.
Now your phone is completely stock and ready to be sent to HTC

FYI - Avoid using Screen Filter app under Gingerbread roms (for now)

I know a lot of people here use the Screen Filter app to both make night-time viewing more comfortable and also save battery use by the display. It is a great app and I have been using it myself for a long time.
However, since upgrading to Gingerbread I have determined that there is something about Screen Filter that Gingerbread does not like, causing it to drain a lot of life from the battery. The battery use does not show up under the Screen Filter application however, it shows up under "Android System".
I can easily demonstrate this - Battery fully charged left on airplane mode, with screen filter running overnight (screen is off) - will consume over 50% of the battery.
Identical setup the next night, with screen filter not running, consumes only 2% of the battery overnight on airplane mode. Checking the battery use screen of Gingerbread, you can see "Android System" is consuming nearly all of the battery use during this time.
I just wanted to post to let people know. I have contacted the developer and let him know about the situation.
could it explain this?
I charge my battery to 100% go to bed, drain 8% in 8/9 hours. But as soon i use my phone once.... (alarm/wake up) my android system starts to use "more" power/accu.

I do not experience this with screen filter and i leave it on all of the time when i'm home.
I have also no issue with the screenfilter app. (Asked the dev to change the icon into green )
@maartenjanvdwielen Change your wifi policy to turn of while screen off if you dont have some reason to have it all the time on.

i had but that seems to be an other drain .
In meantime i removed Screen filter and something happend........ i know its impossible but i gained power! I gained 5% accu without charging it after i removingscreenfilter.
stupid thing is i stopped the process of google maps also after removing SF so there is the possibility......
will see tomorrow, thanks for the heads up!
Does it not deserve a fresh thread? My battery is gaining power too, when I go from cold environment to warmer one afte reboot I can get upto 50% more power
Swyped from another GALAXY
I have that one too, Android OS eating up my battery, phone not lasting a day. I tried soft reset. It worked for a while until Android OS became hungry again. Then I flashed CF-root kernel. Android OS is tamed, I am now on the second day and my battery is still 50%.
I dun think that is specific to GB roms. I had the same problem on my froyo too. I always use screen filter at night only, cause I like to read before sleep. If I leave screen filter on, it drains about 40% overnight. Otherwise, it drains about 7%.
From what i can gather, avoid leaving screen filter app running. Just turn it off when you are done and no problems.

Z5 Cell Standby Battery Drain :(

cell standby kills my z5 battery like a monstar i can't even get 4 hour in SOT. any solution? :crying:
Do you have LTE enabled? Switch to 3G until marshmallow arrives.
If the 4G coverage in your area isn't that good, it will drain battery heavily to search the signal and switch back and forth between base stations.
BTW, cell standby and SOT are two complete different things.. Just so u know.
There is no real solution. I have similar issues on my Z5. I just use 3G and am going to wait for MM update to be released and hope that will fix it.
I think it is a known bug on Lollipop.

Here are some other tips for you :
-Make sure that you have the latest updates for your phone and camera app
-Try killing background apps and using recent apps cleaning apps
- try adjusting stamina mode for battery less than 80 % it is enough to give a good battery life
My z5 sleeps like a baby 0% battery drain during night , when using the phone and playing music i got like 1% drain every 15-20 minutes

You're absolutely right but these are all "known" tips and are not related to radio bug issue. I also used to have no battery drain over night until I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone as I recall. In addition, stamina mode doesn't improve battery at all according to my experience so far with the Z5.

Well there you have your answer. I confirmed both with a Google search though.
You can't change kernel wakelocks without a custom kernel, but yours are normal. Disable some things you use, that use sensors if the battery life annoys you. But really, it don't drain much.
Partial Wakelock and Alarms are the things you have the ability to change.
I just really wanted to know what they are that 13960000.decon_f name was pretty weird and I decided to investigate.
Thanks guys!

Which kernel do you use? You need a kernel that have synapse. AEL and Superkernel have Synapse support which can disable kernel wakelocks. Don't know about other kernels.

I just told you what it is one post above yours. That wakelock has NO effect on battery. Ignore it.
Just chipping in here, as I see some people's answers are on the hostile end of the spectrum.
I also have the 13960000.decon_f wakelock on my s7 flat that I'm trying to figure out. The amount of time for this wakelock is about an hour, but my screen on time so far is 3 hours. So there doesn't seem to be a direct link between the 2 so far
However, I also have a PowerManagerService.Display wakelock that is identical to that of the decon_f wakelock

The 13960000.decon_f wakelock seems to match up with SOT for me—not exactly, but with about a small difference that seems to get larger as the day goes by, which I presume means the wakelock takes a second or something after turning the screen off to actually unlock. So what dynospectrum said seems to check out for me, but it's very interesting that it doesn't match up for others. I wonder if there could be something that causes it to hold the wakelock longer after the screen is turned off, resulting in the longer time. @dynospectrum, do you happen to have a link back to the source where @AndreiLux wrote that quote you posted?
It doesn't for me definitely. decon_f wakelock around 12h 31min, while my SoT is only 30 minutes.

Google Maps 6 gets killed running in background

Hi guys, is anyone here still using Google maps v6?
It is still working fine, except that on this phone (s10+ Exynos) the app gets killed when running in the background.
At first i believed it to be because i had added the app to the sleep list. I had done that because the system keeps saying the app is eating up battery, even when not running.
So I removed the app from the sleep list, but it keeps getting killed.
How can i make sure that an app never gets killed when running in the background?
Try this go into settings and search optimize battery usage, and then press optimize battery usage listed. You have the options to see what is not optimize battery usage or all click all on top left and see If maps is toggled on. If so toggle off.

I have those settings now, and removed the app from the sleeping apps (again). I'm afraid the system will put it back on the 'sleep' list again because it uses a lot of battery in the background (I get regular warnings about that).
Anyone have an idea why this app would be so active while not even used?

I have the same settings as you have.
What happens is that i get warnings about the old apps eating battery. I guess i then put it to sleep without noticing.
I restarted my phone, did NOT start mapsD, but its still doing something on the background.

It's v6 of Google Maps. It had a much simpler interface, and easier to use when looking for alternative routes.
And it doesn't have all that commercial baggage of the new version, which is way slower too btw.
The only thing is, why does it use battery when not even started....

Being it's an old version I would think you downloaded it from the net and not the play store. Maybe it has hidden spyware etc?
