[Q] AOSP roms and loss of functions? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody, sorry for my noob question, but I'm new in Note 3 forum.
As even rocks know, this phone has a wacom digitalizer. My question is: if in future I put an AOSP compiled rom (cyanogenmod, miui or whatever it will come) will I lose all the features related to s-pen and wacom digitalizer?

I do believe that the digitizer hardware should still be available to use. Other features such as S-Pen and Air Command may not be available though (in their stock form). I'm told that there may be 3rd party alternatives to those apps. I'm sure some others can chime in about that.

[Q] S-Pen Support in custom ROMs

Hoping someone in the know may be able to advise on this.
For those of us who are not fans of TouchWiz, is it likely that putting non-TouchWiz roms on the Note will remove support for some or all of the S-pen's features? I know that ICS has native stylus support but some of the S-pen features (e.g. screen shot, S-note software etc) seem custom.
Could these be baked into other roms (CM, MIUI, AOSP etc) or is it likely to be one or the other (S-pen or custom rom)?

I understand that the SDK allows third-party apps to communicate with the S-pen, but does it also allow the S-pen I/O framework to be put into a custom rom? Those two things seem to come from opposite sides of the equation.

There are lots of custom roms that give best of both worlds.
I like vanilla roms but dont want to miss some of the good feature in samsung roms.
In Galaxy SII section there are some good roms that have the vanilla rom but enable users to install samsung features.
So I am hopeful if we can get more developers in

[Q]Porting fetuares from Other Phones

Hi,
I Just read about the MultiWindow Port for the SGS II and asked myself if it is Possible to Port some features from other Phones to our N4?
So is it possible or are there any Plans?
It's possible but what kind of features are you talking about? My N4 does everything I could possibly want it to and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same. A port project won't get underway unless there is demand for it
nothing is perfect  i just wanted to ask about the possibility but because you asked i think the Multiwindow is really cool and i Know there were many people asking to port it for the S3 the demand was so high that Samsung itself implemented it so i think other N4 users will be also interested in this feature
it would be nice if they ported S-pen compatability to the N4 but i have a feeling that it's a hardware thing on the screen too

Ported ROMS vs Custom ROMS (A FRIENDLY discussion)

Ported ROMS vs Custom ROMS - A Friendly Discussion
Having exercised due diligence, I find no one has asked a few (perhaps too simple?) questions about this ROM thing....
First to lay out the groundwork for the questions (forgive me if some of this is in error; I am all for being corrected and will not take offense).
1. There are custom (some from nearly the ground up?) roms written for the Note 4; they do not come with "TouchWiz" (Samsung's overlay that some hate but others love). They are bare-bones affairs and often wonderfully reliable for simply getting work done. Wifi calling almost always works on these.
2. There are ported roms - they began on a Samsung N7 or S8 and ended up on our lowly Note 4 due to someone's hard work. These often were actually ported in China, then translated into English and other languages by folks willing to tackle such a job. Wifi calling usually (with one sneaky exception I'm aware of - TWIZtd Note 4 rom) does *not* work with these.
3. (This only gets a mention) There are "stock" roms -- that is, roms that are simply flashable versions of what came on the Note 4 in the first place. My T-Mobile phone, for instance, has a few varieties for it available on these boards. Some are "virgin" installs exactly like the original; others have been tweaked to be rooted, debloated (that is, having junk programs removed), and the like.
OKAY... now for my questions.
1. Which type of rom -- and no yelling at each other, please, just your own thoughts and reasons and even silly biases welcome -- do you prefer of the three? (Gently correcting others' misinformation about your rom is permitted of course!)
2. What features your rom has that the others do not have that seals the deal for you?
3. What is missing from the rom you use that others do have and that you wish you could have?
4. Devs, is there any way to include wifi-calling into those N7/S8 ports?
5. Is there any hope of making it possible to flash some sort of intermediate layer onto a stock N4 rom, allowing it to then have S8 apps installed and maybe even the launcher? (That's likely a "no" but as a non-dev I thought I'd ask.)
Okay... that's all for now.

Best custom rom with s-pen support?

Up to now I have stuck to the official firmwares because I needed full s-pen support, and at the time I checked there were no stable custom ROMs with s-pen support. But I really could do with a later Android version as apps I want to use don't support such an old version.
Are there any good custom ROMs now with s-pen support?
None that I know of. I have read about a lot of hacks such as Air-Command that people were trying to flash into their current ROM. I confess that I wish there was at least a bit of a comit that notifies you that the pen is out of the phone. I am using Squid currently to take down quick notes and using Notepad for very quick memos... Other than that I don't think there will be any development towards getting use of the S-pen back like we used to...
Damn, that's too bad. I'm actually quite happy with my Note 3 hardware, but that might force me to upgrade to a more recent version. Being on the old official firmware for s-pen support is getting to be a pain now that some apps won't run on it anymore.

Stylus questions before flashing custom ROMs

Hi all and thanks for your help in advance (and backwards since I've been lurking here for a long time).
I received this used Note3 as a gift, never been rooted nor flashed or anything: it has stock rom w/bloatware from Italian telephone provider (TIM), lollipop android. I can't stand all the samsung apps and the rest, I'm planning to flash it with a more recent android version. I'm looking forward to LineageOS since I'm in love with its look (I've been using a stock Nexus 4 for years now), but my concerns go to the s-pen, as I want to use it for trivial applications such as ScummVM and other things where my finger is waaay to big to be precise.
Any suggestions or informations?
The S-Pen is only compatible fully with touchwiz roms. There are apps that you can use to help try to replicate the stylus input, but I didn't experiment with them much so you'll need to do a little digging to find out more. From what I gathered the results are hit or miss.
As above Spen on Samsung roms Android roms use each roms SEARCH THREAD box .

on hardware level, yes you can still use the spen as it still detects it as an input device, but you won't get any spen specific features on it that you would get on tw roms
Yes you can still use it but not as granular as any Samsung ROM. you can still use it in editing apps though.
