Just getting an idea of others decisions on wether or not to update to MJ7.
I personally dont see a reason NOT to do it as safestrap is out for our phone already. If you are waiting for an unlocked bootloader and that is your reason for staying on MI9...just curious why.
Im still on MI9 myself but not because I dont want to do the root process again etc. I havent updated because Im lazy and I have my phone setup the way I like with Wanam and viper sound...and 4.4 launcher and stuff. As well as the MMS apk that has the feature to keep screen off when recieving a message. I guess being lazy if you would call it that.
So...what do you all think...to update or not to update...that is the question.
I updated and the only difference that I see is the fact I lost root
oh well..I just ODIN'd MJ7 and rooted using Kingo...then installed SS...SS recovery...flashed SuperSU 1.65...rebooted. Now bout to flash Guntherm's hotspot zip.
Then debloat...then do my wanam...xposed...and viper sound and 4.4 launcher and stuff like it was before on MI9.
MJ7 seems to have improved the reliability of my data network access. I was having issues where voice/text were working but got no data in some areas. More testing is needed, though.
You can keep root by taking the ota and using root survival in Superuser/super su

That does not work for 1/2 the people who tried it.
I would stay on I9 with root, Install SafeStrap, then Flash Beans Stock Deodexed J7 in SS recovery. Then Odin the latest J7 radio, now you should be on the latest without losing Root.

Anyone knows if I can update to official 4.3 TW whenever it becomes available after rooting MF3?
Or would I have to unroot (which I think is not possible for now)?
I am pretty happy with TW 4.2 and would like to root it to use greenify and other root required apps, but not at the cost of losing
the ability to update to stock 4.3.
I'd imagine you could update but it would make you lose root.

That would be fine with me as long as I can get to official 4.3 since I know sooner or later root would be achieved again,
and even if it could not, I'd rather have the update.

I don't think there's any guarantee about it, unfortunately. Sometimes you do have to unroot in order for the OTA to go through...and if there is still no possible way to unroot when the OTA comes around, you risk having that issue. I do wonder whether the temp unroot feature in Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper would work on MF3 right now...maybe someone rooted on MF3 can test it and see if their device shows no root.
Anyways, I personally recommend everyone stay away from MF3 rooting...especially if you are not very aware of exactly what the consequences are. The fact that there is no unroot should be enough to keep most people away, but I think most don't even realize that fact.

That is exactly the reason why I have not rooted yet and thus the question just in case any one here knew for sure.
For now I will noot root and I may even switch to a Tmo or international S4 if I get the chance.
The way most updates are, if you have root then you'd have to unroot (flash stock or temp unroot) and if you've modified system files it won't go through, meaning MF3 root is risky if you want to still update until they put out firmware.
Could not resist all the bloatware, and not being able to use greenify and all the root requiring goodies. Soooo....:silly:
I rooted and removed bloatware, greenified, and very happy.
I guess sooner or later we will be able to install custom roms, including TW 4.3, even if it is not an official version.
I'm getting an update request to update my firmware. But before I go ahead and do that, I want to make sure updating won't make it harder for me to root and use custom roms in the future.
Is there a way to turn of the reminders? I'm getting daily reminders to update....
Thanks!
Note 3, verizon, unrooted.
I don't think there's a way to do it if you're stock. If it's the MJ7 update, you can still have root and install SafeStrap. I would go ahead and root now.

Thanks for the response. I'm waiting for confirmation that the 1 click root methods aren't malware. I'm also hesitant to root at the moment, since I already have so much data on my phone, and don't want to loose it after the root. I realize by putting it off, I'm just making it worse for myself.
In the mean time, I was hoping I could just disable that notification. It's so annoying! Arghh, I hate Touchwiz sometimes.
Well I am on the horrible MF3 that requires the safestrap recovery to flash any compatible file. So I am not on a custom ROM I am only rooted.
I recently saw the notification that the new 4.3 update is ready to download .
My question is if I update will it still update and just take the root away? Or will I have to unroot and then upgrade?

I am still waiting on an answer for this also. I do know that it has been confirmed working to retain root when upgrading to 4.3 using "survival mode" in SuperSU. I purchased SuperSU Pro and enabled "survival mode". Then I defrosted the AT&T software updater (had it frozen previously to avoid the update) and Let the update to 4.3 download. I tried this twice and both times the 4.3 update failed to install at 25%. Maybe because I had previously uninstalled some of the AT&T BS apps. So I think I wasted $2.50 for SuperSU Pro. I have searched the forum and there are many people talking about having upgraded and retained root via this method, but nobody seems to want to clarify the steps of the process.
Some I am guessing maybe if you haven't removed any of the bloatware from your phone, you can use survival mode in SuperSU to retain root and take the 4.3 OTA update as normal. If you try it, let me know your mileage.
If I had any idea about MF3 and the locked bootloader I never would have gotten this phone. I hated iOS 7 and decided to come over to Android thinking modification would be much easier on the platform. With carriers locking bootloaders now, it's actually WORSE than having to wait for a jailbreak for an iOS version.
I accidently ota to mk2 from mf3 and re rooted with the mj6 method on att s4

Take a chill pill bro. This phone is still better than an iPhone. There is a safe root method now so no need to use survival mode just have to find a way to get to 4.3 which is all over the discussion boards.

Hi Everyone,
I have the G2, and wanted to get rid of annoying ads. So I rooted(that's it, stock, no recovery). I only rooted it. Everything is still stock. The only thing I added was superuser and busybox. I didn't install a recovery like Twrp or cm. I hate ads, that is the only reason I rooted. I didn't delete any bloatware, only froze with Titanium. Essentially everything is factory, except it is rooted.
Question: Will I be able to take the lollipop OTA?
If so, Will I lose root?
If I cant receive OTA, what do I need to do to receive ota update?
Thanks a bunch

Probably
Probably not
Flash stock .kdz
Well we are not likely to see a LP update in the near future, so no worries. As long as you haven't touched any system apps or installed custom recovery you will most likely be fine taking any OTA.
I think that OTA updates aint posible on some devices, like example mine which is 20b. I can only update via pc and lg update tool, but im kinda scared i wont brick my phone since i rooted it on stock 20b with towelroot.
Should i do the update? Can sh*t happen? I am looking over the forums atm, but wanted to ask.
Also im searching for a recovery install way on d802 with rooted 20b stock firmware.

If you are Stock you can still take the OTA if/when it comes out. Root has never been an issue upgrading with an OTA.
What makes the process fail is what you do with root, like changing DPI, changing the WiFi Tether App, physically deleting bloat (verse disabling it).
I'm not sure if you can root Lollipop yet. I've heard they are disabling the ability to root lollipop without a custom kernel.

Heya. I have a rooted verizon note 3. I see i can get the 4.4.4 ota update. So i uninstalled root via SuperSU. I get an error trying to do the ota update. Is there a way to install this update without having to use odin and flashing stock? I dont want to lose all my appz settings etc. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Probably not a good idea to take the update. I'd wait until our trusty devs get ahold of the OTA and do their magic.
Yah, but i get pretty poor 4g for some reason and this update might (is suppose to) fix it. I read a lot of people have unrooted with superSU and installed the OTA update fine but for me it isnt working. Even though i dont have root.

That might just of been the best error ever, especially if you use root a lot. No way to go back and no known, released root at the moment for that version. Like above me has said, try flashing the NK1 modem using Odin and see if that improves your signal any.
Well, i just have been using the stock rom, rooted with safestrap. Id like to update to 4.4.4 just to have the latest OTA with whatever various fixes it might have. Before i did the update i uninstalled anything from wanam exposed framework wise. Then i did the "remove root" from superSU. I still have the unlocked lock on the note 3 splash screen after reboot and the OTA fails....says error at install screen. I have read other people have done what i have done and the update worked. What im asking is am i overlooking something? Is it really even possible without using odin and reverting to stock even though i have read people have had sucess????

If you want the benefits "fixes" of the latest, would be be smart to Odin stock so you are clean when you take the OTA.

I too have read ambiguous posts of people who have used the 4.4.4 OTA on a towelroot'ed Verizon Note 3s. I've been skeptical that this would work and keep root so thanks for clarifying.
I have a question though. Where should I look to keep track of the latest news about a root technique for a Verizon Note 3? Also, is there a place to contribute to a bounty for someone who can figure this out?
I ask because If you google "samsung note 3 Verizon 4.4.4 towelroot" there are tons of hits, but most of them are from eons ago and while I root my phone, I am not a developer, and so don't know the lay of the land. In the past I've just searched for "root verizon samsung note 3" and crawled through the resulting mound of irrelevant material until eventually I found the answer. Or is the answer simply that every few days I search again to see if anything new pops up?
I realize this is a totally newbie question, but I'm a long-time newbie: I've been rooting my phones for years but I don't have a lot of phones and updates only come out every so often so I never really move up the learning curve of how to do this quickly and easily. I suspect others have the same problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It likely is possible to update and keep root. But if after updating you screw up a mod, etc. and need to get back to stock you will lose root permanently.

I read about 4.4.4 and didn't like what they took away from 4.4.2. I won't go to it. If I were you I'd 'towelroot'- (get the simple steps on xda), and 'beanstown 106' has all the firmwares for these phones, put the nc4 on w/ 4.4.2, then install biggins rom v7, then upgrade via dirty flash with 8.0 then immediately w/ 8.3- fast touch response and after about 3-4 days, you'lI be getting twice the battery life… I jumped up to the new v9 but they dont have the theme for it yet. I miss the Kromex blue on black…
