[Q] how to change location appearance on google analytics? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having a bad signal reception on my Nexus 4 in the netherlands. It is very bad when i am inside (house, office, shoppingcenter, etc). Outside it's better. I imported my Nexus 4 from the United states along with another Nexus 4. This second Nexus 4 works great, no signal problems at all. I always figured that my phone has an hardware failure issue, until i was watching google analytics on my website. I saw my phone showed 'United states' as location, while the other Nexus 4 showed 'the netherlands', which is the right location. Does anyone know how this is possible, and how i can make my phone show the right location in analytics? Maybe this will also fix my bad signal issue. My phone is nog rooted or something like that, its just running vanilla Android 4.3

[Q] GPS Antenna (where is it located)

Hi all:
i recently bought a DX off craigslist with a cracked screen.
this is the actual phone i bought
http://iowacity.craigslist.org/mob/2443460199.html
anyhow the guy said it has a good esn#
i havent called verizon yet to verify.
i do not have a contract or service with verizon.
the phone seems to funtion well EXCEPT "Stand alone gps"
when i run apps like "GPS Status", "GPS Monitor", "GPS Fix" or "Google Maps" i get ZERO satelites.
i am hoping maybe the antenna is not connected or something along those lines.
i have been googling for a picture of the antenna and can not find anything
could someone provide me a link to a good picture of the gps antenna so i can see if it is disconnected?
i am running 2.3.3 android and the system version is 4.5.596
i did the OTA update over wifi and it was successfull.
note: i only have gps standalone enabled and that is it
i did have gps assist enabled just while messing around and trying to get sats but it did not work in helping get any sats.
it did help pinpoint my location in google maps but i think that used wifi/cell towers to do it.
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
i read on the motorola forum that since the 2.3.3 GB update other people are having the same problem
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/398655
"Droid X + GB 596 = DEAD GPS"
is it my gps or my antenna or what?
i just got this phone and the very first thing i did was the GB update so i dont know if the GPS was working before or not
any info would be great
thanks
My gps was broken until I flashed CM7 and now it works flawlessly. I guess you could try flashing a custom rom maybe?
ok there is something else i need to add
i just went and got another DX....this one is running Android 2.2.1 and verizon 2.3.340
it is running like it is supposed to.
but while messing around with the phone i just got i noticed wifi is also picking up alot more hits then the 1st droid with android 2.3.3
does the newer GB also make the wifi signal worse or something?
might i have something else going wrong besides just going to 2.3.3?
maybe there is a hardware issue since the phone was dropped.
could have that shook something loose and caused wifi and GPS to be not as good as the phone i just got that has not been dropped
ok i bought another DX off Criagslist and it has a perfect screen (never dropped) but a bad esn...
either way i now have 2 DX`s to compare side by side.
i flashed both 2.3.340 to both phones and i also flashed 4.5.596 to both phones and the results are the same
the phone that has not been dropped always sees satelites with "gps stats" app and the one that has been dropped has never picked up any satelites.
the phone that has not been dropped also shows alot more AP`s when i use wififofum then the one that has cracked screen
i was hoping it was software but i am now believing it is hardware related of some sort.
could someone point out where the WIFI and GPS antennas are located in a picture
maybe someone can draw circle around where those antennas are.
the 3g and cell phone signals on both phones look the same.
there is one other thing it might be.
the one with the cracked screen (and good esn) has a blue triangle in the top tool bar
i know this means the phone needs activated (could that be why i not getting gps)....still dont explain the really lower signal strengths for the wifi so i dont think thats it.
the other phone with bad esn does not have the blue triangle...i dont understand why since it can not be activated....i called verizon to check the esn and they said it is because of financials and if i wanted to activate the phone it would be $1700... someone been calling china?
anyhow i think best place to start is where are those 2 antennas located.
thanks
dont everyone reply at once
I'm not as good with the hardware side, but on the software side, I would try to sbf all of the phones to stock/rooted and test them again. If they show the same problems on the same phones, then it is probably hardware.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
both my phones are now showing blue triangle in notification bar.
both phones do not work with standalone gps
both phones are not activated on vzw network
the phone with the good esn# i am sure the standalone gps will work after it gets activated
the phone with bad esn# can not be activated unless i pay $1700 old bill so it wont ever be activated with me at least
so how can i get the standalone gps to work with that...certainly vzw can not control the standalone gps entirely even on a rooted phone...
soemthing is not right

[Q] any idea on what could be causing my WIFI to give the wrong location?

So when connected to WIFI my location gets messed up. The GPS works fine but the WIFI keeps putting my in Tokyo; thousands of miles away. It does this for all apps so maps will hop over to Tokyo and all weather apps and Google now all display tokyo stuff. No idea what is happening. I am running Paranoid Android. Could just be a glitch with the ROM.

Maybe they just have really strong wifi routers in Japan?
Now my location keeps jumping from my actual location and japan randomly. Kind of annoying.

heh
Hmm, I might try wiping caches, and restarting the router. Also maybe the router itself has some sort of location setting that may be set to Tokyo, not sure though
u need to open back case and bend the metal to get contact with case..
Has it always shown Tokyo?

http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup, is also wrong for me
http://whatismyipaddress.com/update-location ,this adress might update it for you if google use the same databases
I have this issue as well with my Nexus 7 on CM10 and my HTC One XL on CM10. It doesn't happen on any other phone in the house only my two devices running CM10. I just can't figure out what is wrong with this. It keeps showing Lynwood, WA and I read another post that it has shown same location for two other users on a Galaxy Nexus.
I'm not so sure it's the router or ISP anymore. I have checked my ISP location online and it is correct, in fact even when I go to a website to check it on the Nexus it's correcty while my apps show Lynwood. Also, it only occurs on my CM10 devices and not my wifes ICS HTC Vivid or the Windows 7.5 phone in the house.
If I go to location settings on my devices and uncheck then recheck Google Location services then it finds correct location for awhile before going back to Lynwood, WA

[Q] [DISCUSSION] Grey 3g signal bars

Hi to all...i know there are a lot of post like the following...but give me a shot (and sorry for the italianish english ):
every day 6-7 times when i light my monitor i see the signals bars as grey for a little (not over WIFI but 3g...at home over wifi same issue)...if i open gtalk i see my contact offline for a while.
very...very...VERY annoing :-\
Any help or similar issue on your device?
btw thers's not a codfire rom issue...but every rom i tried give me this problem.
Allready changed my sim...a nano sim with adapter (iphone 5 ****!!!) but no news!!
thanks and bye
I have the same issue. I believe this phone reports signal better then it truly is. At my house in bedroom with my galaxy nexus it would show 1 bar often. With nexus 4 it shows 3 but it is gray which means its not able to contact Google servers I believe. If I make a call its bad quality as well which to me shows its a bad signal but phone reports a bit optimistically
I had this problem on my nexus s. I still get out from time to time on the N4. I think it might of been two different things.
1. A standby mode of the version of android you are running.
2. Maybe an APN setting that is causing you to jump signals.
Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Sent from my Nexus 4
yes maybe one or both
Any solution from the xda super user???
The grey bars simply mean you don't have 'proper' connection to Google servers. So things like Talk won't work. You night need to invest in a proxy app, like proxydroid

[Q] Connectivity Problems: Nexus 4 on WindMobile Canada

I went through the forum and couldn't find any solution, so I decided to post it here and hoping for somebody to help:
There're 3 problems/issues:
1. The phone does not always show "H"(HSPA+) for data. It usually shows "3G", and when you try to access internet, after some 10 secs, it turns to "H". This is for when you are standing still in a location with good signal coverage.
2. When I'm in a moving car, the data speed gets really slow. Takes forever to load up xda for instance. Most of the time "3G" is shown. Sometimes "H"(HSPA+) appears for a random but generally short time period.
3. When moving out and in to Wind signal coverage, it takes very long for the phone to connect to Wind's service.
----------------------
Now don't tell me this is all because of Wind has bad signal, because if I put my sim card back to my old HTC amaze, none of the 3 issues above appears.
I know it's a known issue that Wind and Nexus 4 together has a problem, but I'm really looking for a solution to this as N4 is a really nice phone with Wind's unlimited data on it.
Someone help plz!!!!!!!:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
-------------
BTW. I called Wind customer support today and they give me no helpful solutions. They also admit that although they are officially offering the Nexus 4, they have no custom tweak on the radio/modem of the phone.
------------
update: since the phone stays on 3G when there's no internet loading, it's probably saving battery this way. But with Wind's poor network, it's better to always be on "H".....is there a way to do that?
same problem
When we first got on WIND eaarlier this year we needed to get a new sim card to fix reception issues so you may wantt to see if that's part of your issue? Wife's Google Nexus 4 iwas purchased right form tehgoogle store and is not modded in any way.
I don't know if it's the area I'm in (Burlington near upper middle and bronte creek) but reception on the Wind network is spotty at best. And it almost seems as if form Jan. 2013 to now it's gotten worse at my house.
We have the same problem on my son's LG Optimus 4X HD as my wifes Google Nexus 4 so maybe it's just winds coverage in certain areas?
If there's any mod. I can do to improve the crappy signal from WIND I would love it because right now we are shopping for a different carrier due to the reception problems.
I had a friend using Solavei with similar issues. Tried a new SIM card, same issue.
Eventually got a replacement from Play Store, solved issue - was a defect in first phone. The Play Store has great support.
Details like which ROM/build would be helpful. Which modems you've tried, etc.

GPS problems with A2017UV1.1.0B25

I recently bought 2 ZTE Axon 7s from Amazon (US).
I immediately unlocked the bootloaders, rooted both and installed Android 7.1.1 -- version A2017UV1.1.0B25 from various instructions I cobbled together from these XDA forums.
GPS on one device shows no signs of life whether I use Maps.ME or "GPS Status" (sorry, can't post links to show the exact programs to which I am referring.
[The other Axon 7 is, unfortunately, 10,000 miles away until August 1 -- with a low-tech-skils user (my Mom) who can't possibly ascertain whether the GPS is functioning. The phone seemed 100% functional before I sent it off, but I didn't check GPS without turning off WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular location-finding assistance . . .]
Can anyone with a similar Axon 7 configuration confirm that their GPS receiver is working (i.e. in Android settings: Location/Mode, set to "device only: use GPS to determine location" )?
Does your device lock onto a GPS signal? Outside only? Inside a building?

Can't you tell her to open Google Maps maybe? I don't know how it would react if it had no GPS (it could pinpoint your location with cell towers?) , but I don't think that's normal behavior
P.S. I say Google Maps since it should come preinstalled
