think i bricked my nexus s please help

ok, i was running 2.3.3 on my ns and finally got it unlocked then i decided to go for it and root it. my biggest mistake was not backing up anything after the unlock and then when i was rooting the phone it got stuck in the google screen
now i can get to the bootload screen but when i go to update from sd; it takes me there but i have nothing to back it up from
ive been trying to figure out a way to load a recovery backup to sd but the pc will not read the sd card anymore...
how can i fix this or am i stuck with an expensive paper weight?
please help
Question: Do you have clockworkmod on it?
(I figure you unocked and roote via adb/Fastboot - but if you can do it some other way and you did here they are]
Get ADB and Fastboot - figure out how the commands work (from Terminal/console/Command Prompt).
U need to put the files u want to flash (*.imgs in the same place as fastboot/ADB unless you're good a remembering your paths, if you have OS X simply drag and drop commands and files into terminal)
See if you can find a clockwork recovery image,
Download a stock rom - report back
Basically:
fastboot flash boot example.img
Fastboot flash recover example-recovery.img
that should work. I'll keep an eye on this thread.
After flashing CWR, go to mounts and storage and select mount USB storage, from there you can access your sdcard and copy files over.
The USB storage might take a minute or so to show up on your computer, if you're on windows go to my computer and click refresh until it shows up.

Here are the steps to get your phone back up and working:
1.Download this platform-tools.zip and extract it to your desktop
2.Connect your phone to the PC and enter bootloader mode
3.Press and hold Shift while right-clicking the folder you extracted 'platform-tools'
4.Click 'Open command window here' from the pop-up menu. cmd.exe window will open.
5.If the Bootloader is Unlocked continue to the next step. Type in the cmd.exe window 'Fastboot oem unlock' and follow the steps on the phone screen.
6.Type in the cmd.exe window 'fastboot boot cwr.img'.Your phone will restart and enter ClockWork recovery(CWR).
6.In CWR navigate with the volume keys and highlight 'mounts and storage' and select it by pressing the power button.
7.Then navigate down and select 'mount USB Storage'
8.On your PC, go to 'My computer' and press the refresh button until a 'removable disk' drive appears.
9.Double click on 'removable disk', You now have access to your SDcard on your phone!
10.Copy over a flashable .Zip Rom to the SDcard that you want to install on your phone, ie. Stock 2.3.4: Link(only for i9020T and i9023, dont install if you have i9020A), CM7: Link, etc.
11.Select 'unmount' in CWR when done copying files over. Then 'Go Back' to go to the CWR main menu.
12.Select 'wipe data/factory reset' in CWR and confirm with 'yes'
13.Select 'install zip from sdcard', then select 'choose zip from sdcard', then select the zip file you want to install and confirm.
14.Wait until the Rom installation is complete, then 'select reboot system now'.
15.Your phone will reboot and be up and running! Custom Roms tend to take longer to boot so be patient.
Let me know what happens.

Are you using CM7 nightly? I think it has a USB mount bug and the google apps including market are not in the CM7 rom and have to be flashed separately from the rom.

The usb storage isn't showing up after I run cwm
Another restoration method you could try is using Odin to flash back to stock and retry the whole root process step by step ....I am on my phone right now so its hard for me to dig for threads but I know there are instructions and a stock Odin image floating about

yes, i can access clockwork mod also, but it the usb storage wont show up.....
Follow these instructions:
1. Slap self in head.
2. Power on phone while holding volume up&power button.
3. Now on the pc, Get the fastboot folder to the root of hard drive, I.E. C:\fastboot\. Also add to this folder your *.img files (radio, recovery, boot, system, data, etc.)
4. Open start menu.
5. In search box type cmd and press enter.
6. Now command window is open, type in that
cd C:\fastboot
fastboot flash * *.img
Replace the * with appropriate .imgs.
recovery, system, data, boot, radio.
Example
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
7. Now that that is finished type
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
8. Now the phone will reboot. BE PATIENT AS THIS MAY TAKE UP TO TEN MINUTES TO FULLY REBOOT INTO ANDROID!!! Disturbing it in anyway can cause corruption. I had this happen to my phone before. Literally walk away and come back in ten. Don't touch it, don't breath on it nothing. If you have any further problems either post here or PM me. Getting the .img files and fastboot is up to you. By the previous replies you should have them already.

I think I had the same problem. first you need to check if your pc has the correct driver to accept the nexus s in bootloader mode. when that is done and you have colckword mod , you can but a custom rom on the sd card and flash that, then you'll be able to use your phone again.

[GUIDE] Upgrading your Verizon r800x to CM9

Recently I posted about Sony/Verizon finally allowing meid unlock of the r800x.
I thought I'd come back and write up a little guide to help those of you that are wanting to upgrade your Verizon r800x device to a fresh install of CM9.
Things You'll Need
Unlocked Bootloader
Xperia Fastboot Drivers
Android SDK
Cyanogenmod 9 (I used the 2012-11-25 nightly)
Flash Tool (Links are under installation)
Verizon's 2.3.4 TFT
Gapps for CM9
Keiran & Atarii's CDMA Fix (There are some touchpad fixes out there too but I'm not covering those as I chose not to use them)
Recovery Play
Setup Stage
Download everything listed above.
Install Flash Tool and copy Verizon's 2.3.4 TFT into Flash Tool's firmware folder
You'll want to get Android SDK installed.
In the SDK manager, you want to be sure to have platform tools and Google USB driver checked and installed.
Unlock your bootloader following the steps on Sonys Unlock Bootloader webpage. Congrats your bootloader is now unlocked.
Start your phone and connect your usb connect your SD card to the PC.
Make a folder to store your rom setup files and copy the Cyanogenmod 9 Zip, Gapps, and Keiran & Atariis CDMA Fix Zip to that folder. Unmount USB Storage.
Back up your app data using Titanium Backup or some other tool to your SD card.
Navigate to the install path of your Android SDK and locate the platform-tools folder.
Open up the CM9 Zip file and extract boot.img to the platform-tools folder.
Also copy the recoveryPLAY.img to the platform-tools folder.
Run the command prompt and navigate to your platform-tools folder. Keep the command prompt open throughout this whole guide.
Code:
cd c:\program files\android\android-sdk\platform-tools
for example
Disconnect your USB cord from the phone and shut the phone off. Hold the search button and plug the USB cord back in.
You should see a blue light. If windows can't find the drivers for your fastboot, point it to the platform-tools folder.
Run the following code and when that is complete run the 2nd command:
Code:
fastboot boot recoveryPLAY.img
fastboot reboot
Unplug your usb and press the back/return button on your phone until you see ClockworkMod show.
Navigate to backup/restore and choose to backup your phone (home is up, list is down, search is enter). We are doing this incase something goes wrong with with your Cyanogen install, in which case you will simply restore your phone.
Poweroff the phone.
Start Flash Tool, press the lightning icon and select flash mode. Select Verizon's 2.3.4 TFT and click next.
Hold the back button on your phone, insert the USB cord, and press the power button to start flash mode when flash tool asks you to.
Boot your phone and activate your service using verizons *228 program. After the phone reboots, turn it off.
Back at your command prompt, run the following codes and then immediately unplug the USB cord.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Your phone should start and you should see a FXP boot screen, start pressing the volume down button to enter into recovery.
Navigate through clockworkmod using your vol up/down keys and choose the install zip from SD option (home is enter).
Select choose zip from SD card and navigate to your CM9 zip you copied to your SD card earlier. Select yes.
After install completes, repeat the step above but this time choose your Gapps Zip file.
Lastly repeat the step again and this time choose Keiran & Atariis CDMA Fix Zip.
Reboot your phone and hopefully if everything went well, your phone will start up into the OS after a minute or two.
Go through the setup that pops up (you shouldnt need to activate your service, you did that previously in the fresh 2.3.4 install).
Lastly open up voice dialer and say Open APN and it should come up with an option to Open APNs. Select it.
That should bring you to a screen and there should be an option for Verizon Wireless, select that and return to your home screen. You're done.
If for whatever reason you encounter problems. Boot into recovery and restore your 2.3.4 backup.
I am not responsible for any botched upgrade attempts. You assume the risk when you unlock your bootloader and all modding attempts made on it.
This guide was writen as a suggested route one can take for upgrading your phone and any problems encountered along the way were not my doing.
Search the Xperia Play Forums if you encounter any weird problems.
This is a great guide! Good luck CDMA users! First

What I meant was, skip the recovery part, and don't flash the kernel that comes with CM9. Get LuPuS CM9 kernel. Has it's own built in CWM (6.0) and it's great. Tons of useful features.
Thanks For The Guide it helped alot!
Help. Bootlooping?
Thanks for writing this guide. I"ve read that the initial boot in to CM9 takes forever, but how do I decide if I've waited too long and I'm bootlooping? Also, all of the procedures I've read talk about fixing a boot loop by returning to the stock firmware. I want CM9 and don't want to return to stock.

I fixed it: I booted in to Recovery mode by holding the volume down button and then I used it to wipe user data. Then rebooted and booted in to CM9 in less than 2 minutes.
Is there any way to do this with out activating your phone? I have a Galaxy Nexus and don't wan to deactivate it just to flash a rom.

Yeah i actually had this happen to me a few times on other roms. It usually boils down to wiping cache/dalvik after the install, and sometimes user data.
No worries, found what I needed.

When i do the fastboot flash boot boot.img it says everything did well but my phone wont boot. I dont know what im doing wrong...
The Verizon's 2.3.4 TFT file seems to be down.
the links for verizons android 2.3.4 no longer contain the file. can anybody point me to the right direction where i can obtain the file.
Problem with step 19
Hi guys
flashtool is not recognizing the Verizon's 2.3.4 TFT file. i copied and pasted the file in the firmware of the flash tool but its not showing up in the firmware section. I notices that the file extenetion is .ftf inseted of .tft i changed the extention to .tft but it still didnt show up.
I don't know what tft is (it's FTF) but I have the 2.3.3 (.88) and the 2.3.4 (.57) both on my dropbox account. Just click my link and foloow it to the correct folder and file. Enjoy.

AFTER REFLASH(FINAL) WITH FLASHTOOL ITS EARSE THE RECOVERY PARTITION THAT'S THE PROBLEM I AM WORKING ON THAT TOO WAIT..
Problem is I made it work the first few times around. There was recovery and all was good for the first 3 times ( I had to redo the whole process due to the Rock1zk rom I tried to install kept kicking me into bootloop or boot animation hang) and now I can't get it to work anymore. It keeps having the red LED light and no recovery.
There must be something I did right the first few times or something i did wrong after....

i assume you have root access..and you cann't get in to the recovery...
try to install the recovery in adb ...
Download here "https://mega.co.nz/#!6QtTRCwT!flLlwuSo1hK3_jskHEPqO-Q6jVUXrWF5xoxEyuHN3cI"
run the install.bat....
its hard to get permission on android 5.0
if you got it then you are sucessfully installed the recovery...
if not ...install ROM MANAGER "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en"
under Utilities MENU
Select fix app permission (similar) it will grant root access to all your application...
the restart the Phone ...
now install in normal ADB Mode...
then start install.bat..:good:

PRF Creator does not create TFT but flashable zip file. You should get all options selected. Read more here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55082595&postcount=2

Take out the battery . Put the battery back in . Hold the power button & volume up button until you see your bootloader screen . Plug the phone into computer .download adb_fastboot from xda minimal install . Extract and install on C drive or desktop of computer . Inside folder right click and open a cmd window as administrator ..type
fastboot oem unlock
Volume up to select yes
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
( Make sure you download one recovery img from my posts AND PUT IT INSIDE adb_fastboot tools folder )
fastboot reboot bootloader ( if it doesn't work do it manually)
Hold power & volume up key to enter bootloader screen
SCROLL WITH VOLUME KEY UNTIL YOU SEE OPTION WITH RECOVERY
SELECT WITH POWER button
when inside twrp flash rom , flash gapps , flash magisk ... or just flash magisk & noverity.zip from my posts .... * Obviously put all of these files on external sd
Or just use all-in-one-tool from my posts ...but most importantly
READ & STAY CALM AND THINK AND DON'T FORMAT good partitions bro :silly:
Most likely you can READ how to use power and volume up key to enter bootloader to enter recovery to flash noverity.zip ( that guide told you to put on external sd with magisk ) if you managed to flash recovery correctly ..before looping
Take out battery if you are back in loop . Put back try again ..even in a loop you can get to bootloader with holding power and volume up UNLESS you flashed a bad boot.img
THEN just take out battery and follow my threads that explain how to use SP flashrool to restore stock rom ..
Just install flashtool ..unzip stock rom..open flashtool ..click select scatter loading ..use navigation window popup to select scatter.txt in stock rom folder ..take battery out connect phone with usb..click download only button in sptool ..put battery in .. DON'T TOUCH ..WAIT FOR GREEN tick ..peace bro

Don't remove your phone . Don't switch on . Start flashing ALL the files ONE BY ONE . USE DOWNLOAD ONLY SELECTION . When you see which file fails tell me which file is failing . You don't need to flash cache or userdata .
---------- Post added at 07:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 PM ----------
Also note . MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING *LATEST* version of flashtool . Download a different version of flashtool too. Sometimes it gives 6045 error.
S_SECURITY_SECURE_USB_DL_IMAGE_SIGN_HEADER_NOT_FOUND (6045) , MSP ERROE CODE : 0x00
Meaning: The image files you are trying to flash doesn't contain the -sign header.
Solution:
Use SP Flash Tool V5.1532.00
