Since few days ago, from time to time mediaserver shows up in my battery usage stats and starts draining battery really fast. i deleted all music and video files and my pics are backed up to dropbox, nothing in gallery. What could be the cause? Im trying to avoid the factory reset as the last solution . .

I have a brand new 8GB Nexus 4 running Stock Android 4.2.2 with Mediaserver battery drain issues. I started noticing it about 3 days after I got the device last week. I did a complete factory reset, formatted user data partition/cache/dalvik cache and even reinstalled 4.2.2 and I still get the MediaServer battery drain. I don't have any music or pictures on the phone and I only have a handful of apps installed. I have disabled Google Currents Sync and Music Sync as I don't use either one of those. I have nothing on the "SDCARD", no pictures, music, nothing. I sitll see the battery drain though at a rate of about 10-15% per hour. Is there anyway I can find out what is causing the Mediaserver battery drain?
Apps I have installed:
Beautiful Widgets
Bejeweled Blitz
Candy Crush Saga
Facebook
Dashclock Widget
Please use the search function.

after fully charging my nexus 7 for the night i went to sleep, when i woke up in the morning the battery was down to 49%, wondering why the battery was going down so quickly, i moved to battery usage and guess BAM Media server top of the list with a whopping 46%. Wonder what caused this i searched around a google and concluded it is related to music, videos, pictures etc. However, since i recently bought the tablet i haven't gotten the chance to input any music vids or pics into. The next logical culprit for the high % is the apps, but since i downloaded a bunch of apps before hand i just opted for factory reset. now here comes the problem, even with Currents, googlenow disabled and no apps downloaded, media server is still at 35%! Does any1 know of any other things that might be causing such a high media server battery usage? Thank You very much.

For me its not more than 10% always, & as per my knowledge mediaserver is all about CPU & keep awake , so maybe some crappy apps causing the issues, so try to test by unistalling them, For me "screen " is always drains almost more than 60% , Got lucky to prove Asus that its battery fault so getting replacement of battery .
I have seen posts that point to the cause being a corrupt media file. Some have mentioned fixing by deleting corrupt video files and my wife had a bad music file that was causing all kinds of problems until I found and deleted it. Also, you can copy a 0-byte '.nomedia' file into any folder you don't want indexed by media server.
Hi guys
I recently noticed my Nexus discharging over 50% of its battery over night while in standby. Looking it up in the settings turned out that the process called Media Server is the cause with nearly 50% of the power being drained by it.
Can someone help me out with this issue - what can I do to resolve it?
I'm running stock 4.3, rooted.
Many thanks in advance!
try this:
go in settings>Apps>media server>clear cache and data
this will let it rebuild the database
Reboot after you unplug charger. Every time.

My wife's phone had a corrupt video file (just a few bytes and a funny name) and once I deleted it, the media server drain disappeared.
Hi,
Not sure if this is in the right section so admin please feel free to move.
Ive googled my problem and had a bit of a read but dont really get any solutions.
Ive noticed a serious battery drain since upgrading to 6.0.1 - maybe it happened on the previous version however ive just seemed to have noticed it more since i did the update.
My battery doesnt last very long. It will show 100% in the morning. If i dont use it, it can go down to about 80% within an hour or so. If i do use it then im using apps like gmail, whatsapp / sms, short phone calls, some other apps but im not on them for very long. I normally close all apps that are running in the background.
This morning it was 100%, ive used it as described above and its on 57% and its not even dinner time yet...
Ive checked the battery usage and top of the list is " Cell standby" with 48% usage showing power used is 1530mah - which is alot. The next is "my data manager" (an app to manage data usage) showing power used is 485mah (alot less!). Ive attached a screen shot.
Ive also noticed that once the battery gets to around 30% it drains even faster. I find myself using power saving mode when it gets to about 20%. It still seems to drain at a similar rate. Maybe slightly slower.
Any ideas on what i can do to recover battery time without buying a new battery. There seems to be a few topics online relating to battery drain when updating to the latest android version.
Thanks

I had same battery drain issues when i updated from lollipop to Marshmallow but after doing factory reset everything is better then lollipop and doze feature in 6.0.1 works very well. I leave my phone at night about 9 hours and not drain even 2% battery and i got 5 hours scrern on time .
try factory reset+wipe cache from recovery and use atleast 3 days to doze feature work properly.if you have same drain issue then it's a bad battery.this is the only solution so far.
Battery pull?

Hey all.
It's the second time my battery has been drained from 50%+ to 0 in about 12min . It happens when I stream music over google play app and Bluetooth. Something I have been doing plenty times over and over again. I'm on NBD91K Build . Rooted. Anyone else?
My gf reports that her N6p, NBD90X (at&t), has died on numerous accounts in the past month where she would have 25-40% remaining battery life and then went to 0. Battery usage graph would show the severe and sudden drop in percentage. Haven't found a real solution at this time.
Yes, I noticed similar issue couple of days back with play music when connected to car Bluetooth. I played music for around ten minutes and saw that play music had taken 12℅ of battery.
I am on 7.1.1 DP2
