For some reason my youtube app is now playing videos and they are all dark / dim. I have removed the updates on the app and played them and they look normal. Install the update and they go dark again. Anyone know anything about this? I tried searching but did not find anything at all.
Update - I found the official google thread but no fix. Anyone know a fix for that?
In settings there is something called "Adapt Display" or something like that. It's supposed to adapt the screen according to whatever is being displayed on it at that time. Its like Windows.
Have you checked if its ON?

what music app are you using? Have you attempted looking through settings to see if there's a "shake to change song" option?

I am using the built in Google music app, and no there is no option in it to turn it off.
My nexus 7 (4.1.1) stutters every 7-8 seconds during all video playback (Netflix/YouTube/local). It even occurs with WiFi turned off and playing locally stored content (Transformers movie). Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix?
We had another thread going on this but it seems to buried now. You are not alone 'it's happening to me too. It is also happening on games for me too. I think it may have something to do with 4.1.1 update as others and I didn't have problem on 4.1. I am trying to flash a 4.1 ROM but am having issues at the moment doing so.

Not problems here with 4.1.1 watching Transformers end to end twice. Try doing a factory reset and retry the videos stock.
Did yu mess the build prop? Like did yu try out the tablet mode?

I also get some stuttering when I use Netflix but not on sling player nor YouTube

I made a copy of build.prop but didn't modify the original file. I'm rooted on latest build.
I had changed the density so I can have it in tablet u.i mode but I switched back I put 213... But I had remembered for some reason it was at 212 before I even changed it, but I put 213 cause everyone on xda said that's was what the original number was... Check & see if it's at 212 of not changer it to 212... It worked for me

Found a fix
Go to Settings then Developer Options and check Disable HW Overlays,
seems to solve it, not sure why.
Well from what I've researched what it tends to do is pool the system memory so I don't think it's a good idea to turn it off. When you have it turned off each program is no longer being allotted a separate amount of memory. However when I did turn it off and it seem to fix the problem I have with stuttering in games.

That's great shame because it works really well!:crying:
I don't know if this works for others but my problem turned out to be rotation control app. Had it set to auto and it still did stuttering. Uninstalled and instantly cleared the problem.

Thanks for the info! Turns out Orientation Control app was causing the same problem for me. Uninstalled and stutter is gone. Hopefully a future update will solve the conflict.
Hmmm

What exactly does the rotation control app do? I mostly use my N7 in Landscape mode, would uninstalling this app interfere with this? I'm getting god awful stuttering when I try to play an .mkv file streamed from my rig to my N7.... Makes the movie unwatchable. But my .mp4 movies (720p) play just fine..? I also get the tiniest amount of stuttering in Dead Trigger.
Yes, works for me too, it is there a rotation app to replace the culprits? Thanks!

Yep, it was the rotation app for me too, removed it and now it's back to "butter". Thanks!
Another satisfied customer here, removing the rotation app removed the video glitch, now I installed Apex Launcher to get the home screen in Landscape mode and it seems to be working without any glitches.
Are there any other apps with such problems? I never installed the rotation control app but I still have stuttering. Disabling HW overlays fixes it, but it sounds like that's a less-than-ideal choice. I can't think of any other app that would be causing the problem.

I hope so, though for now I disabled HW overlays - Rotation Forces Auto on Ultimate Rotation App is just too darned useful to live without. Plus it boosts the benchmark performance. Not sure about it yet, but I see no side effects with actual usage.
stutter WORKAROUND...
Hi everyone,
Instead of disabling HW Overlays... or uninstalling `Ultimate Rotation` app (which I really like!), set the given app/game to `Manual rotation` in the settings:
1) swipe out and tap the Ultimate Rotation icon
2) `Settings` (bottom right)...
3) `Per App Settings`...
4) tap the app in question...
5) choose `Manual` rotation...
6) exit... and try the game/video (stutter be gone!)
NOTE: I just noticed you can do this while the stuttering app/video is running. Just do Step 1 (as above) while your game is running (it will pause when you tap the Ultimate Rotation icon), then simply choose `Manual` rotation and you`re back in the saddle again.
hope all that made sense...
cheers!
First off I'd like to say I believe this is an extremely isolated issue, but I would appreciate any and all help.
I can't seem to get notifications working for snapchat. I've looked around before since I had the issue in CM10 with my note, but I've found nothing on the subject. I realize not many people here probably use snapshot, but the way it works is that when a snap is received, the screen turns on and a notification pops up in the notification bar. Since I flashed CM10.1 today I receive the snaps but my screen does not turn on and no notification appears.

I've noticed this has gotten quite a few views and I just want to post the solution. For whatever reason, if you use titanium backup to restore the app it will not be able to display notifications.
To fix it just reinstall the all through the play store.

I have been trying for the better part of an hour to change my Google Now default weather to Fahrenheit. I've of course followed all the Google instructions and online help. It just doesn't seem to stick. I go into Google now click the bubble above the temperature card in the weather card and set to Fahrenheit as default. Then double check to be sure the system language settings are default U.S. But then when I turn off G-Now the settings go back to Celsius. This is driving me nuts. I'm stock vanilla and rooted. Anyone else experience this?

Have you tried searching for your particular problem? Someone else had the exact same problem... maybe there's something helpful in that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226752
Edit:
So I tried to replicate your problem. I went and disabled my Google Now, and searched for "what's the temperature". It defaults to using Celcius! However, when I enable Google Now and choose Fahrenheit as the units, both the weather card and the search results show temperature in Fahrenheit. If I choose the weather units as C, then both the card and the search result displays temperature in C. You might just have to keep Google Now enabled...
The latest Google Now is broken. There is a Google groups thread about changes to sports teams not sticking. This sounds like it might be related. Google is looking into the sports problem.

Great, well hopefully it will get fixed. Terribly annoying. AWFUL. The other part had no help right now. Same issue... It used to work on another phone I had it ported over to my Galaxy SII.

On the weather screen after a weather query there is a small C and F. The F should be blue, just press it.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Stock rom, stock everything, not rooted or any kernals. Don't know a thing about hacking Android devices (soon to change!)
Stock video player doesn't work? It worked flawlessly before, now it goes from a white screen to black screen to homescreen with a message "Unfortunately, Video has stopped."
I have disabled some stuff in the App Manager but nothing that seems to be linked to the stock video player? Anyone else with the same problem?
In system settings, apps find the player and clear it's cache.

Cleared in both the app (1.47mb file) and video player (100kb file?). Still acting the same :crying:, thank you for the suggestion!
I can still access my media files by going thru the files menu, but that gets annoying after a while :cyclops:

If this started after you disabled stuff then you disabled something related. It is not uncommon, especially if you are not sure.
Reenable apps or do a reset.
