Pandora

I have noticed that after I upgraded to the official 2.2 update and have the phone docked in the car dock, if I get a call or navigation voice kicks in pandora shuts all the way off and when I'm done it stays off. When I had 2.1 when I was done with a call pandora would start playing again. I thought it was the new battery manager, but I turned it to performance mode but it still turns pandora off and it disappears from the notification bar. Any ideas how to fix this?

I tried to post a link to my fix at Androidforums, but I don't have the permissions yet. Go there and search for "Froyo Pandora" and you'll find links to the v1.2.1 of Pandora which doesn't have this problem.
seems like pandora has gotten worse in lots of ways. it used to also show up in lock screen =\

some apps will not install on my Nexus S

Hi I've had my Nexus S for a week now and by and large am very happy with it.
Recently I noticed that some apps from the market will not install after downloading, for example, the Pubtran London app.
the app always shows it's being currently downloaded, and when I check the About tab, it says that 100% has been downloaded, but it will not launch into install.
There are quite few apps which I tried to install but also had this problem. I would be grateful if anyone has experience the same issue and has advice to resolve this problem. thanks!
Not all apps are compatible with Gingerbread.
PS Ignore the fact that I thanked you. I clicked the wrong button
hi thank you.
seems then have to wait to the apps to be updated.
even the xda app does not work on nexus S!
I have just found a work-around for this problem.
everytime an app would not install, I just go into manage apps and clear the Market cache. Once the cache is cleared, app can be installed with no problem.

I'm having this problem too.
I don't think it's compatibility issues, clearing cache and force stopping the Market sometimes works, but it seems the next time I use the Market, one of my apps wont update until I do this again.
Any ideas?

The problem isn't unique to the Nexus S for me. My SGS i9000 (DocRamboned) has similar issue, especially with updates...lots fo them stall on the download, or download and fail on the install.
Perhaps there's some issue on the mothership's side of the market.

Volume Control with Screen Off

Does anyone know if there is a way that the volume can be changed on the SGS i9000 without the screen turning on?
I have checked the settings of both Android and Winamp but found no option.
Also, an Internet search using Google and searching the XDA did not return a result...
I also find this annoying. I use the MIUI player

Thanks for the quick reply and information; I will definitely check that out now.
You would think that this would be a feature included with Android; although, maybe a developper would be able to create a mod with this feature. *hint hint*
Can anyone comment if such a modification would even be possible?
PlayerPro supports volume up/down with the screen off. It also supports skip forward/back with the volume keys, by holding them down. (this behaviour can be turned off and/or reversed with volume as well).
It's the only music app I've found that does this, although I wish it did pause instead.
Cheers
What firmware are you on? I'm on Darky's 9.3 (2.2) and it does this with the default music player.

THANK YOU!!!
I am using the JVB firmware currently and, as you mentioned, the default music player actually does not turn the screen on when changing volume.
Hah! All this time and I never thought to use the default music player. Go figure...
So, seems as though I should send yet another request to Winamp development.
Wish me luck...
Alright, to finish this thread off I thought I would mention that I have been using Winamp since it was released and never looked back; so, my apologies for anyone that may have facepalmed while reading this...
Suprisingly the default music player is not that bad. Actually, I think that I may continue using it instead of Winamp until an equalizer has been implemented and the volume can be changed without causing the screen to turn on. Also, the music player has features in the notification area and Winamp does not.
Either way, thanka again to everyone that helped; it is greatly appreciated.

Hi the problem with the screen that turns on when pressing the volume keys occurs when you have a non stock lockscreen like widgetlocker or winamp lockscreen controls above the stock lockscreen.
I think everyone reproduce this problem in sgs

use player pro and voodo sound (voodoo control plus)
its worked like a charm
I honestly would just use the default samsung music player. It has built in eq's, has lock screen player & has a funky 5.1 button for the hell of it. (although it's debatable if it changes the sound quality for the better or not)

You have helped me to find the root cause. THANK YOU IMMENSELY!!!
The issue is that; although I use the stock lockscreen, it was disabled using the Extended Controls application because I was at work and next to my phone the entire time...
Good catch and thanks again. I owe you a coffee, beer, or something; but, in the meantime, I will click your thanks button. That's just as good, right?!

[Q] Text (notifications) Interrupt Music

Notifications Interrupt music for about 2 seconds, then music starts again. This does not happen on Cyanogen just wondering if there is a FIX for Sense Roms.
Is there a FIX out there for this very annoying issue? I have searched and searched with diff combination of words and no answer comes up?
If you are using the standard music app, open the app, p ress settings, then you should see a lossless ducking option, enable it. Then what wil happen is that the notification will play at a quieter right through the music, so it doeesn't stop at all.
Is this for the EVO? I forgot to mention what device I had lol...I just went to the Myn Synergy RC2 ROM from CM7 ROM. I cant find this setting on it. I want a sense ROM that doesnt interrupt music, I know Myn Warm 2 Point 2 RC5 didnt do this. Thnks for your reply
put the phone on silent. the media volume remains unchanged, and the phone will vibrate your notifications and not interrupt the music.
been doin this since stock froyo, and now running synergy rls1, but works on and rom this way.
Thx for your replys guys...I put notifications on Silent for now...until Poweramp Player includes fhe option to fix this. I just wonder why CM7 and Myn Warm 2point2 dont interrupt.

I don't think it's a FLAW, but rather intended operation. When I'm listening to podcasts in DoggCatcher, it pauses while any notifications are playing. It resumes playback after the notification sound is complete, but I don't miss words in the middle like I would if it were playing the notification over top of the podcast. It really seems like it's a system feature that requests to pause currently playing media while notifications are happening, and these apps merely respect the request.
It only does it when the headphones are plugged in, without them it will not do this.

that happens to me too. i cant find anyway to fix it. turning off the notification sound just draws a silence when i get an new email or sms.
I don't think there is a fix yet if your on a sense Rom. I went crazy reading and searching about this. The Dev of Poweramp Player will be fixing this in the next update. Def. Worth the purchase without the fix...its a major plus once he can fix this.

Video playback stuttering.

My nexus 7 (4.1.1) stutters every 7-8 seconds during all video playback (Netflix/YouTube/local). It even occurs with WiFi turned off and playing locally stored content (Transformers movie). Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix?
We had another thread going on this but it seems to buried now. You are not alone 'it's happening to me too. It is also happening on games for me too. I think it may have something to do with 4.1.1 update as others and I didn't have problem on 4.1. I am trying to flash a 4.1 ROM but am having issues at the moment doing so.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Not problems here with 4.1.1 watching Transformers end to end twice. Try doing a factory reset and retry the videos stock.
Did yu mess the build prop? Like did yu try out the tablet mode?

I also get some stuttering when I use Netflix but not on sling player nor YouTube

I made a copy of build.prop but didn't modify the original file. I'm rooted on latest build.
I had changed the density so I can have it in tablet u.i mode but I switched back I put 213... But I had remembered for some reason it was at 212 before I even changed it, but I put 213 cause everyone on xda said that's was what the original number was... Check & see if it's at 212 of not changer it to 212... It worked for me

Found a fix
Go to Settings then Developer Options and check Disable HW Overlays,
seems to solve it, not sure why.
Well from what I've researched what it tends to do is pool the system memory so I don't think it's a good idea to turn it off. When you have it turned off each program is no longer being allotted a separate amount of memory. However when I did turn it off and it seem to fix the problem I have with stuttering in games.

What exactly does the rotation control app do? I mostly use my N7 in Landscape mode, would uninstalling this app interfere with this? I'm getting god awful stuttering when I try to play an .mkv file streamed from my rig to my N7.... Makes the movie unwatchable. But my .mp4 movies (720p) play just fine..? I also get the tiniest amount of stuttering in Dead Trigger.
Yes, works for me too, it is there a rotation app to replace the culprits? Thanks!

Yep, it was the rotation app for me too, removed it and now it's back to "butter". Thanks!
Another satisfied customer here, removing the rotation app removed the video glitch, now I installed Apex Launcher to get the home screen in Landscape mode and it seems to be working without any glitches.
Are there any other apps with such problems? I never installed the rotation control app but I still have stuttering. Disabling HW overlays fixes it, but it sounds like that's a less-than-ideal choice. I can't think of any other app that would be causing the problem.

I hope so, though for now I disabled HW overlays - Rotation Forces Auto on Ultimate Rotation App is just too darned useful to live without. Plus it boosts the benchmark performance. Not sure about it yet, but I see no side effects with actual usage.
stutter WORKAROUND...
Hi everyone,
Instead of disabling HW Overlays... or uninstalling `Ultimate Rotation` app (which I really like!), set the given app/game to `Manual rotation` in the settings:
1) swipe out and tap the Ultimate Rotation icon
2) `Settings` (bottom right)...
3) `Per App Settings`...
4) tap the app in question...
5) choose `Manual` rotation...
6) exit... and try the game/video (stutter be gone!)
NOTE: I just noticed you can do this while the stuttering app/video is running. Just do Step 1 (as above) while your game is running (it will pause when you tap the Ultimate Rotation icon), then simply choose `Manual` rotation and you`re back in the saddle again.
hope all that made sense...
cheers!
