So, i'm on rogers, running iB4stid latest 4.0 Goldeye rom and i want to flash MG1 modem to get the benefits of better LTE and faster speeds. I've downloaded the MG1 tar, extracted the 2 bin files and i've tried flashing them via odin by checking phone and unchecking auto-reboot but it fails every time. I've also tried using mobile ODIN but it doesnt want to let me use it because i'm probably using a non canadian rom and tell me my device is not supported. I really want to be running on MG1 but i dont know what i can do to flash this, any suggestions? Also, i dont want to give up on Goldeneye because i strongly support ibastids main rom which is by far, the most well maintained rom from a single dev, IMO
Anybody?

It's not an ATT rom. It's based off UBMGA

I was unable to flash as well for some reason with Odin or Mobile Odin. I ended up doing this:
-Made a Nandroid backup
-Flashed entire MG1 Firmware (from sammobile) via Mobile Odin Pro and used EverRoot to inject Root.
-Flashed TWRP v2.5.0.2 via Mobile Odin Pro
-Restored Nandroid via TWRP
-Now unfortunately no WiFi
-Attemped many kernel fixes with no luck so I Flashed Adam Kernel and everything works perfect and confirmed MG1 Baseband
Alright, thanks for the input, but seems like too much trouble for me.
y not recover to stock, update it to MG1, then use the 1 click root, dl goomanager, get twrp and flash the rom n kernel
too much trouble

He's a Canadian. Rogers not AT&T. What's the deal on the modem that apparently isn't worth the trouble now?
I never understand if all these different names are talking about the same things or different. Will switching to a different modem change your baseband version?
I'm AT&T in Los Angeles using TWRP 2.5.0.2 flashed GoldenEye and I have not flashed any "add ons". The bloatware is gone and my internet is smoking LTE or 4G (same thing) fast and couldn't be happier, baseband still says MDL. The GPS locks faster than any handset I've ever had and Google maps rocks. Everything works, and I'm like a kid with a new toy when I come home from work and mute the Ellen show with the IR blaster. Everything works. Nothing is broken. Best Rom I've ever flashed and the easiest one I've ever flashed.
So what about that there modem deal a bob?

Looking forward to hearing a report of your test if you enjoy better data speeds. Was your trouble worth it?
So I rooted my sprint s4, following these instructions:
http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-root-the-sprint-and-international-exynos-samsung-galaxy-s4/
Which worked great. Then, I followed these instructions for the hotspot modification:
http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-get-free-native-wifi-hotspot-on-the-sprint-samsung-galaxy-s4/
I was running the MF9 firmware, so I used that. I made a backup of the two files before copying the new ones over. I reset it, and it stopped on the sprint screen, so I followed the unrooting instructions here:
http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-unroot-and-unbrick-the-samsung-galaxy-s4/
Now, my wifi isn't turning on. It flashes for a second, then disappears, showing a "The device has detected an application attempting unpermitted actions and has stopped loading. To protect your device, it is recommended you reboot." alert.
The backups I made weren't there, so I assume it rebuilds those files. What do I do? I've tried factory resetting, but nothing has helped so far. I've read a few forum postings but they seem to all revolve around issues with new roms. I only used the stock one, so I'm not sure exactly what to do.
So, can anyone help me out? I'm not too far into these things, so easier instructions are better.
That alert is because you have Knox installed and rooted. You need a root browser and go into the system/app folder and delete the two files that begin with the name Knox.

So to do that, I'd use the odin program? And where do I get the different kernel?
To be honest you shouldn't be flashing if you don't fully read and learn before getting a rooted phone. Kernels are in the original development thread.
And you flash the kernel zips in a custom recovery.

I had no intention of flashing a new rom, only wanting to root it to remove some useless stock software, and move some other stuff to the SD card.
I'm guessing I want the first file here, right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258107

I can't find any instructions on how to install that kernel, since it's a zip instead of a tar so I can't use odin. Everyone just says "use recovery," which doesn't help me at all, since I don't know what that is or how to do it. I've tried a few other kernels I've found on xda, but none have fixed it.
Flash custom recovery tar thru odin, theres a couple threads in development section with different recoveries...then simple flash kt kernel zip thru your new recovery ( you can access your new recovery by booting up the phone and holding down the volume down button)...I suggest you learn how to back up and restore your rom b4 trying this
Odin this recovery http://d-h.st/O8s its agats

Hmm weird, well here update to the newer update to this for here. Will be a pain in the ass but believe me this will solve all your problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375523
Flash that in Odin and make sure you just get the huge file that's the only one you need. Extract what is inside and you will get a .tar.md5 file. Next do a factory reset of your phone. Boot into download mode. Flash that file. If you get any errors just delete the .md5 extension and reboot your computer and try again. Once done, it should boot will take awhile no more than 10 mins. If it doesn't boot take off battery and boot into recovery. You should stock recovery with the little green dead android. Its OK don't freak out just do a factory reset and reboot. Once that is done.
Download either odex or deoxeded tar file which ever you want here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357471
Once that is done you can flash that through Odin and you should be rooted and updated to the latest version.
You can also download twrp recovery here
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/jfltespr
All versions there. You can download stabled twrp 2.5.0.2 or download the newer one 2.6 0.3 as people have said it has been working for them and there you go. Its a lot but it gets the job done and all your problems go away.

No, I mean wifi at all. Also, I just noticed when I insert a microsd, it says it's safe to remove immediately. Loading from the SD card on recovery works though.
And I doubt sprint will help me, I've had the phone for a while and they wouldn't do anything for issues with my last phone, since it was the 15th day I had it. If I send it to samsung with the stock recovery, kernel and rom, will they be able to tell?
Hi everyone,
I am new to android mods and such and I may very well sound like an idiot. However, even though I know little to nothing of what I am talking about I am in dire need of help. I never did any heavy modifications like custom ROMS but I merely rooted it and installed some tweaks via the xda installer. After toying around with one of the tweaks I seemed to cause an annoying random reboot which would happen when I would sometimes go to unlock my phone. Fine, I could deal with a few reboots here and there. However, my phone recently got stuck on the AT&T loading emblem and stood in my pocket for 2 hours draining a lot of battery and has not been resolved since. I am unable to enter safe mode and I tried a few guides to flash it to stock but I honestly have NO IDEA what I am doing. I am aimlessly following guides here but there is so much variability therefore I feel as if I would have the most success with personalized help.
What do I do? Please use simplified terms along with (relatively) full steps. For example, if I were to flash something I would go into recovery mode with home + vol up button factory reset, and the AT&T logo would still be there, frozen.
Things I have tried but have probably done wrong:
Factory reset
Install custom ROM
All and ANY help is appreciated at this point, I am desperate.
Thank you,
Suprr
Also, my ultimate goal is to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520418 this mod, or at the very least get the stock ROM working so my phone is usable.

I am assuming that you havent yet taken the OTA update to NB1 and your base is MK2. Or, do you have a MDB/MDL bootloader?
If MK2: You have to flash the full stock Mk2 firmware using odin. Download the "Full odin tar files" from the All things ATT thread
if MDB/MDL: Download the stock firmware from sammobile and flash using Odin.

I tried to figure this out and I'm lost. I've not been keeping up with development on this phone for a while. I'm currently on stock rooted MDL, stock recovery. I'm looking to move to rooted current stock rom. How do I go about this. As simple as just putting a new recovery on and flashing the new one? Or do I need to be careful of anything?

I am in the same boat. Have tried goomanager and rom manager but both failed to load recoveries. It seems they have moved on to 4.4.2 kitkat and no longer work with 4.2.2 MDL. Have also tried to find .tar files for older recoveries and flash with ODIN but no luck. Afraid to OTA update from AT&T and get MK2. Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.

Glad you got it--you can now flash custom recoveries from recovery. I like twrp 2.5.0.2
Don't try goomanager anymore--not needed
There are a couple files to delete so you don't get auto updated. Some have Update in name and one has FOTA. I don't have them in front of me atm
Get a nandroid asap and put copy on pc too
Plus backup efs
Just one last check before I try and mess with things tonight. Since I'm on MDL still, to install a new current ROM (like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280556), all I need to do is:
- install a custom recovery (TWRP 2.5.0.2 looks like the most recent)
- backup
- full wipe
- flash new ROM
I shouldn't have to mess with any of the safestrap stuff correct?
Just trying to be cautious.

How did everything go? Im on MDL rooted custom rom and really want to get back to stock rooted. I know I dont need to do the same process as you but I was curious how things went.
I seem to be unable to successfully flash ROMs on my phone...
I am not sure what's going on.
Yes, I am rooted. Yes, I am flashing ROMs made for my phone, and flashing the appropriate firmware to match the ROM. Yes, I perform a clean flash by wiping everything first.
I have tried wiping cache/dalvik after flashing, still no luck. I have tried not flashing gapps, still nothing...
No matter what I do, it never boots. I sit at the Verizon screen for hours on end.
Any ideas?

If it's any help, here is a list of ROMs I have tried...
Alliance
Jasmine
Eclipse
Optimal
MiUi
FreedomROM

Never heard of this. You might have flashed the wrong thing. We don't flash gapps with our Roms. Start over by using Odin to flash a full stock tar of NGC and root again.
I'll give it a try later. Thanks.

If you're on NK2 then most of the Roms I read you flashed won't work on that build. After you flash a ROM built for OC4, like FreedomROM for example, you need to Odin over the OC4 firmware (which includes modem and kernel) to the device otherwise Roms won't start. Same thing goes for everyone other ROM with the firmware except it has to be for the respective build.

Yeah, I've got that all figured out now. Never really had to do that with any other phones I've had, it was always just flash and go, never really messing with different firmware and whatnot. I have since tested 4 different ROMs and they have all flashed with success..
Thanks
Can a mod please mark this thread as answered/closed ? I got it all figured out. Thanks.
