After using some CDMA crack tools, I get it running on ChinaTelecom network now.
The 3G data link works very well.
I think it can be used on other CDMA network provider also, such as sprint.
I was really hoping that Sprint was going to announce the XOOM at CITA
Hopefully Sprint users won't have to rely on hacks like this
Nevertheless, good work

Why not? And if so, you'll be probably be notified by moderator in a kind way
PS: by the way, your 3g provider doesn't require a sim card or you've somehow managed to use built-in sim card slot?

Provided you're not doing something such as changing the IMEI, please feel free to discuss details of this hack.
If you have any questions as to whether it's allowed, feel free to PM me the instructions before posting and I'll let you know.
great news!!!!
I am very happy to hear this. I had to leave the US and couldn't return my xoom before than. I am now in india, you think there is any chance of getting this hack to work on one the indian cdma networks?
Please keep this thread up and running alive and well!!!

How can you use this on sprint for instance unless you do an imei hack which is illegal. The device has to be activated on a carrier that does data only like sprint but the device's imei will have to be changed for that to work. I'm not sure how overseas works but getting this working on sprint isn't happening.

not necessarily.. imei is just an identifier or ID for the phone.. if your imei isn't blacklisted, you can use it on any network.. doesn't matter if it's locked to a certain provider.. and you don't need to hack the imei to make your phone work with another network.. you just need an unlock code, unlocked phone or re-program the phone to make it work on another network.. phone (tablet)unlocking and imei hacking are two different things.. you only hack the imei if you wanna clone another phone or if the imei is blacklisted.. now those are illegal..

True but the op is confusing sprint with metro pcs. Metro will unlock an activate any cdma phone on its network so technically it could work that way but sprint doesn't offer those services so the op's methods will not work on sprint unless you clone a sprint imei

I don't know about Sprint but I took another CDMA provider's phone and altered it using the moto hack tools long ago (KRZR) and put it on Verizon. Never had to change the ESN/IMEI. Just modified the settings in the tool so it looked for Verizon's network, logged into My Verizon and put the ESN from behind the battery in the box... whalla, non-Verizon phone on their network.

Actually when I looked at the steps for doing this I realised it is so so far beyond my understanding level that I wouldnt even know where to start. So unfortunately I havent even attempted this. I would love to get this working but I have pretty much given up on the idea unless I find someone who knows how to do this in person....
I recently got a new case, before I put the case on I opend the phone and notice that my galaxy s4 had a sprint ship like t mobile or att. My question is would i be able to unlock the phone to go to another carrier? I also heard that inturnacianal phones are worth more. The SIM card is removable, and there is an option to set the network to GSM, so I'm assuming it can be done.

Can it be unlocked? It is very likely that it can be. If you're in good standing with Sprint, you could probably call them and tell them that you are going on an international trip and would like to use a prepaid international SIM card, and they would probably unlock it for you.
As far as how it goes with, if the phone is stolen, if you report it as stolen, there is a chance they couldn't use it at all with the new blacklist in place, compared to the old one that only blocked the ESN for CDMA activation.
Sprint sims are locked to device. So say you lose your phone someone else puts their sim in it won't work. If you got a one and a gs4 and want to swap sims that wont work either. If you lose your sim you have to get new one directly from sprint... being so new I have heard these may be difficult to find at the moment.
Not sure how much control sprint has over international sims once unlocked. I suppose that is a risk you take for the freedom.
Hey everyone,
Did anyone register the IMEI for their I9505G with AT&T? If so, did you have any issues with your data plan changing to non-LTE? My GPE S4 will be here tomorrow and I'm worried that when I activate it, AT&T may not see it as an LTE-compatible device and thus limit my data plan to HSPA+ or something. I know when you're dealing with unlocked devices on AT&T, they will change your date plan speeds based on what their records show the device is capable of. So... did anyone have any issue with this or am I worrying over nothing?

No. I never had any problems. I just asked for a new sim. Nothing more. I was coming from a skyrocket, took the larger sim. No questions were asked. They just got grabbed a new Sim card. Put it in and activated it. LTE workes great for me when I am in it.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk 4
No major problems. It was pretty straightforward. Only problem I had was that the S4 uses a micro SIM card and my old phone used a normal sized one so it didn't fit. One trip into an AT&T store and I was all set.
If you don't want to get a new micro SIM card, I guess there are some ways to trim down a normal card so that it works. Seemed easier to just go down to the store and get a new one and handle the activation in one stop.

Ah. So when you got the new SIM card, did you provide your new IMEI number? Or does AT&T still think you have a Skyrocket?
I have an AT&T GS4 right now, so I currently have an LTE data plan. I know I can just swap the SIM and LTE will work just fine. But say I called AT&T and said "Hey, I don't have that phone anymore and here is the IMEI of my new phone...", that's my question.
Does AT&T see the GPE GS4s as LTE capable in their database? I prefer to keep my IMEIs up to date with my carriers, but I won't update it if it means there's a chance I could lose an LTE data plan due to incorrect info on the I9505G in AT&T's database.
That's why I'm asking if anyone actually has an I9505G IMEI number registered with AT&T and if they had any LTE issues after doing so.

After your two year contract is up, and you unlock your phone, do they turn off LTE? No. Plenty of people bring LTE capable phones to att network. If there is a problem. Make a phone call. They want your money more than they want a lost customer.

I understand that, but when it comes to unlocked devices that AT&T doesn't sell or support, like Nexus devices and, in this case, and I9505G, they sometimes have incorrect information about the phone's capabilities in their IMEI database. That it can lead to problems. But IrishPadres said he gave them the new IMEI and he still had LTE so that answers my entire question. That means that, even though they don't sell the I9505G, they still see it as an LTE capable device.

I just popped my SIM in and was fine. Never called ATT. I was already provisioned for LTE etc. You will only need to worry if you currently do not have a ATT account provisioned for LTE and a SIM. If you need to get a new account and SIM you may need to let them know the IMEI.

I swapped my sim out of my crappy iPhone 5 with a sim card adapter and no issues ever.
Hey guys, I'm getting my hands on my friend's Galaxy S4. He is on an AT&T plan and got then phone from them through an upgrade. I personally prefer Verizon. I was wondering if I could get some help on making his phone work for me. I have a SIM card and everything, currently using a RAZR MAXX. I've done a little looking around, and from what I gathered, the phone is capable of working with verizon, but I'll have to load a different kernel and ROM onto it. I've looked through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295557 that thread and found some nice info, but I'm not yet confident enough in my knowledge to go through with it. Thanks for all the help, I'm really wanting to make this work for me so I can actually get a powerhouse of a phone.

I'm not sure about that. ROM shouldn't matter too much, you just have to have it SIM unlocked and I believe it won't work too well due to the different frequencies between carriers and so you may not get LTE or something. Maybe someone can correct me though.

Verizon/Sprint phones use CDMA.
ATT/T-Mobile use GSM
I don't think you can use a CDMA phone on a GSM network and vice versa.
EDIT:
Per the replies below, it looks like it ispossible.
Here is a thread from the Verizon forums.
Also, if this WIKI page is correct, the Verizon S4 has both CDMA and GSM radio's where the ATT S4 only has a GSM radio.
The first thing to identify on the phone is whether or not it is on the stock AT&T ROM and what version that ROM is. If it is I337UCUAMF3 then changing the bootloader/kernal/rom is not even an option to begin with which means there would be no way to change out the modem to support other carrier bands (such as those used by Verizon). On top of that, although I have heard that the modem hardware is the same on all versions of the S4 I have not heard anyone confirm that they have successfully enabled CDMA services on the I337.

There are some that work on other networks without the need for modem changes. I read about some using the Verizon on AT&T, and I used the droid Bionic, a Verizon exclusive with a locked boot loader, on AT&T.

The strange thing is you can use a Verizon S4 on AT&T but you can't do it the other way around. Verizon phones all come unlocked, allowing you to use the phone anywhere around the world.
The AT&T S4 does not contain the CDMA chip allowing you to use it on the Verizon network, plus it has to do something with IMEI. If you give the IMEI to Verizon, they won't be able to locate which device you are trying to activate because it's not in the system. But if you use a Verizon S4 and put in a AT&T SIM card, you don't have to register the IMEI with AT&T or T-Mobile.

Yea I noticed that the ATT S4 doesn't have everything that the Verizon S4 has in the service menu. Like I can turn on all the different bands in the service menu, but on my ATT S4 I get restrictions on wcdma.

Not two days after I have the ATT I somehow got it working... Lol. So now I have two with unlocked bootloaders and sum unlocked...

Boost is basically a Sprint MVNO, so G900Ps should be inherently compatible. All you should have to do is change the APN for data and MMS to work

well, if youre running the stock ROM, you might not be able to set a custom APN. Id just flash twrp, make a backup in twrp once installed, install a compatible ROM then change the apn from the more settings \ data settings menu. Googling "boost mobile apn settings" should get you what you need for those fields. And for a first time APN changer, there are about 8 or so fields that you have to change to a specific set of alpha characters, slashes and all. Im at work, but ill check thei sthread later if i remember, or you can HMU on google hangouts later. im youdoofus there too.

i wish it was that easy. my evo was flashed using a samsung icognito. so boost thinks im using a samsung incognito. therefore i have to continue to make them think im using the incognioto and since it dont have a sim, they probably wont do it. which is y i need to flash it like the evo was flashed. or flash a sim card so the sim acts like the incognito.

it is that easy. Youre talking about two completely different animals. Your current phone uses CDMA for its activation, LTE devices are totally different. Boost is a sprint MVNO and sprint thought that clearwire was the way to go back in the evo days, which is why your evo doesnt have a sim card slot (clearwire was its own bespoke technology and didnt use sim cards). Dont think im right? Fine, just order a sim that isnt linked with your account, put a minimal amount of service on it, pop it in your phone and when it works, dont be surprised

i know its called cloning, and that term is rather taboo here (hence why i refrained from using it), but MOAR is what i ran for over a year, and its a rockstar!
also, cloning an IMEI is only "ok" as long as you own both devices and NEVER part with the donor phone. I guess you could hulk smash it or lock it in a safe, but yeah.... touchy subject here
