I recently got a new case, before I put the case on I opend the phone and notice that my galaxy s4 had a sprint ship like t mobile or att. My question is would i be able to unlock the phone to go to another carrier? I also heard that inturnacianal phones are worth more. Before this galaxy s4 i had a galaxy s2 and htc evo 3d and i never had a chip on any of those phones thanks in advance guys.:good:

The SIM card is removable, and there is an option to set the network to GSM, so I'm assuming it can be done.

Can it be unlocked? It is very likely that it can be. If you're in good standing with Sprint, you could probably call them and tell them that you are going on an international trip and would like to use a prepaid international SIM card, and they would probably unlock it for you.
As far as how it goes with, if the phone is stolen, if you report it as stolen, there is a chance they couldn't use it at all with the new blacklist in place, compared to the old one that only blocked the ESN for CDMA activation.
Sprint sims are locked to device. So say you lose your phone someone else puts their sim in it won't work. If you got a one and a gs4 and want to swap sims that wont work either. If you lose your sim you have to get new one directly from sprint... being so new I have heard these may be difficult to find at the moment.
Not sure how much control sprint has over international sims once unlocked. I suppose that is a risk you take for the freedom.

I Have the AT&T S4... should I switch to T-mobile S4? (bootloader issues)... I want to make the move before I can no longer return my AT&T S4... any thoughts? I know the AT&T S4 would tend to have more going on in terms of roms and development, but even well known devs are saying stay away from this version... seems like they dont think it's gonna happen soon at all.
From what I read on the T-Mobile forums they are still trying to figure out if the bootloader is locked like ours

right there with you, i've got 13 more days to return-no-questions-asked, just a little butt-hurt i already traded my lovely GS2 in :crying: should have kept that little sucker around until all this washed over. I would go over to HTC One, as it is developer-friendly, but i just can't bring myself to a non-reparable design as these USB ports at the bottom go after time, no swapable batt, and missing micro SD card (love having my pics there in case phone dies, while it's not the ultimate in security, it's at least a small form of backup). Also, the added screen real estate i think is the perfect phone size.
Really hoping the TMob version can be SIM swapped, might not make it to my return date to get confirmation on this....boo
I am thinking of going HTC one. Cant afford to wait a year for potential screw up where Samsung releases an unlock. There will be no unlock for boot loader u less Samsung or somebody working there leaks it.

This site claims to have the unlocked US T-Mobile S4 available for pre-order. I have no experience with them, but they are mentioned several times in the S4 forums.

Nice, thanks! My concern is that they are probably talking about sim unlock which is possible on At&T already, I wish we had someone who owns a t-mobile S4 and can confirm an unlocked or unlockable bootloader.
EDIT: Looks like according to the t-mobile forum theirs is unlocked bootloader. Im hoping we can just get the bootloader unlocked by then but if not.. plan B!

Wasn't your original question about where to buy a T-Mobile S4 without having a T-Mobile line? If so, that site claims to have them. If you are planning on using the T-Mobile S4 on AT&T networks it will need to be sim unlocked. Otherwise, I'm not sure why you are looking to buy a T-Mobile S4 without having a T-Mobile line. As far as the bootloader goes, AT&T is locked, T-Mobile is not, but that has nothing to do with a T-Mobile phone on an AT&T line? Maybe I am just not understanding what you are looking for?

It really has. Just people are tired of saying NO. So the questions either get danced around of ignored. If people want to use a phone internationally, they should have gotten a GSM phone. There is a reason why CDMA phones are cheaper, especially Sprint. They only work here without any hassle. And that's never going to change. End of story.

Still......... that answer is inaccurate and condescending. Forums here are to help , just as you took the time to post........ could it have been more positive than negative? Anyway to answer the OP................ SPH-l720 is indeed a CDMA device which has a UICC/ SIM port. This port, when using the phone in CDMA mode Sprint's UICC (sim card) activates the LTE side of things. However if you can get Sprint to release the UICC card and unlock the port for GSM use, then guess what? You have a GSM abled phone that can switch back to CDMA, which in my opinion makes the SPH-L720 and the SCH-i545 trully a World phone or viable international mobile. So that takes care of that bit, the phone IS capable of GSM.
What if I am already out of the country??? You can still get it activated via Sprint international...... but this is not why you are on XDA looking for a solution. The reason why you are here is for some reason Sprint will not activate the GSM function or even calling them will not make a difference and you are looking for a software solution. Well as of the date of this post, 7/5/2013, there is none. Not to say that it will not happen but there are very few with unlocked versions of this phone to supply data needed. Usually when people get their phone's unlocked there is no need to add to the online database anymore. So have faith and patience, and I hope this helps someone and in turn someone can help me.

I have to strongly disagree with you on that because:
You most definitely can use the phone internationally, albeit while paying Sprint's outrageous international roaming rates (though of course they are not the only ones who overcharge for this functionality, all carriers charge an arm and a leg for international roaming).
Sprint will unlock the phone for contracted subscribers who wish to use the phone internationally but want to avoid paying Sprint's roaming rates.
Beyond these two items, I don't see what obligation Sprint has as far as international capability on the device towards folks who are not their subscribers. I personally don't think they have any. If those folks want GSM capability, then they shouldn't buy a Sprint branded unit.
As for the other "how many of these threads are we going to have" issue... Well, I second that sentiment! What bothers me is that people are too lazy to do a search, instead opening a new thread on this question. I almost wish any time a mod sees a question like this, answer with "answered over and over before, please do a search" and lock the thread.

Nope. Sorry. When you sell subsidized phones and people take advantage of that and skip out on the contract, you have to cover your ass, hence the 90 day wait to establish a good pattern. I got mine unlocked in 30 days, but I've been a 20 line customer for 15+ years.
If you tried to get an intl phone on the cheap, then shame on you for not doing enough research. I would bet Verizon S4 a more expensive because they do come unlocked because of some fcc reg on the bandwidth their frequencies.
If your goal was to just use it internationally only, then you should very sucked it up and bought a gsm only phone. The Dubai guy never having stepped foot in the US should have purchased more wisely.

Yep. I'm a Sprint customer and I Live in the USA. I called them and they did it for me. They said press the UICC Unlock button now and it will be done. That's it. That is correct. CDMA phones and GSM phones are not interchangeable. Neither will work on the other network. If there is nothing wrong with the phone, you could always just sell it on eBay or somewhere, and given the going rate for the S4 now, you should be able to get enough money to buy a Verizon one easily. That would be a very expensive "mini-tablet" for your son. :silly:

Partially true. You can use a Verizon GS3/Note 2/iPhone 5 on GSM with some simple mods. To the |OP|, I would recommend putting it on swappa.com, XDA's official marketplace. Good, honest members are willing to pay top dollar for a clean phone.
I wasn't aware of that - in regards to the GS3/Note 2/iPhone 5. Thanks for clarifying!

No, not yet anyways. The only thing possible at the moment is to have the SIM unlocked by Sprint for international SIM card usage while overseas.
It's already unlocked, I took my phone over seas and just popped my sim in there and everything was working fine

I broke my sprint phone, but I can upgrade to a new phone now on Sprint. I want to use the Sprint One Up Plan for a bit, then leave the contract since I don't believe it has a contract. I plan on using the G2 as my replacement. I want to move to T-Mobile later, and I know the G2 can be used on Sprint. I also have read here that the G2 comes factory locked by Sprint, and Sprint will one unlock it for international use. Is there something that I could flash to the G2 to allow me to use it on T-Mobile when I switch?
Basically, how can I use domestic USA GSM on a Sprint LG G2?
I will at least root and unlock the phone internationally first anyway, since I need to use outside of the country. Flashing ROMs and things like that is not a problem for me.

Thats risky due to the fact that tmo uses different bands than sprint plus the radio waves are different and sprint is gsm and tmo is cdma

Anyway, I know the G2 supports all of the bands, so I don't see why this can't happen. Sprint has just locked away the domestic GSM capabilities. Why is flashing theT-Mobile modem such a risk then? WOuld I be able to flash it back?

Sorry always get that bavkwards the issue is with two things the radio, which you said you could flash the modem no problem. Then the biggest issue is the sim card now im not sure if the sprint variant has a sim card slot. But from what my buddy has told me who is a tmobile phone tech they dont have away to enable your service with out the sim card. For some reason they dont do their services like most carriers and just use the phones imei number to set service. If im wrong im sorry and hopefully you can get everything switched. And thank you for the imformation i did not know the g2 has all bands hidden inside the phone. I was just worried that the radio bands would get you. And to answer your question yes you can always just flash them back.

No problem. If I helped give me my first thank you. I'm going to go to the Sprint Store soon and see what they say. The Nexus 5 seems to be compatible with any carrier, but I like the G2 just a bit better. Sprint has a help topic regarding replacing the SIM , so that is not an issue. Hopefully someone else can tell me if the G2 can have a different modem flashed.
I don't want to take any unneccessary risks flashing, because that is what broke my last two Sprint phones lol.

It will not work.. Sprint doesn't unlock the phone for domestic US GSM carriers and the 2 models for Sprint and T-Mobile are completely different. You flash anything like the radios and you'll have a massive brick. If you want to move between carriers, get the Nexus 5.

You will not get domestic GSM service with Sprint atm. Hang it up until a solution if any will come. Even after that, it will never be fully compatible with Tmob bands. I love/hate Verizon.

They said and i quote just call customer service and have them unlock the phone. Once the phone is unlocked you can flash to a different carrier but you have to know what your doing.
