[Q] How to Unlock the Sprint Galaxy S4 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I did some searching but couldn't really make anything out... is it possible to unlock my Sprint Galaxy S4 for AT&T Use?

No, not yet anyways. The only thing possible at the moment is to have the SIM unlocked by Sprint for international SIM card usage while overseas.

It's already unlocked, I took my phone over seas and just popped my sim in there and everything was working fine

That's cool to hear. You're the first example I've read about whose S4 just worked out of the box with an international SIM without getting it unlocked first from Sprint. Did you buy the phone brand new from Sprint at a retail location?

Just got my nexus s... but...

**updated: ok, that is fixed... inserted a sim card that was not activated by mistake.....
Now, my new question..... I did root my nexus one, then I rooted my galaxy tab...... is there any reason to root this just yet? Or wait for custom roms/overlcock/kernels! Thx!!
Also, unlike my desire hd... it seems to have the edge speeds automatically... I did not have to put in the apn settings? cool, but why is that?

Long story short, my friend drove down and bought 2... problem is, I fear they are not factory unlocked.... I put in my sim card and it says no sim installed, emergency calls only?
It also came with a tmobile sim card, which I thought was odd.... so if he drove 6 hours, round trip.... just to buy a locked phone? Are we screwed? heh

They all come with T-Mobile SIMs.
Maybe these handsets are locked to U.S. carriers, i.e. T-Mobile and AT&T..

sounds like you have an deactivated/defective/possibly really old SIM?

[Q] Factory unlocked

I recently got a new case, before I put the case on I opend the phone and notice that my galaxy s4 had a sprint ship like t mobile or att. My question is would i be able to unlock the phone to go to another carrier? I also heard that inturnacianal phones are worth more. Before this galaxy s4 i had a galaxy s2 and htc evo 3d and i never had a chip on any of those phones thanks in advance guys.:good:

The SIM card is removable, and there is an option to set the network to GSM, so I'm assuming it can be done.

Can it be unlocked? It is very likely that it can be. If you're in good standing with Sprint, you could probably call them and tell them that you are going on an international trip and would like to use a prepaid international SIM card, and they would probably unlock it for you.
As far as how it goes with, if the phone is stolen, if you report it as stolen, there is a chance they couldn't use it at all with the new blacklist in place, compared to the old one that only blocked the ESN for CDMA activation.
Sprint sims are locked to device. So say you lose your phone someone else puts their sim in it won't work. If you got a one and a gs4 and want to swap sims that wont work either. If you lose your sim you have to get new one directly from sprint... being so new I have heard these may be difficult to find at the moment.
Not sure how much control sprint has over international sims once unlocked. I suppose that is a risk you take for the freedom.

Converting Sprint S4 to ATT

I get my wife a used S4 today that was previously on the Sprint network. We are on ATT and i planned on rooting the phone any ways. What all do i need to change to get rid of the sprint phone number that is on the phone, and what do i need to flash to make it work with the att network?
Don't believe it's possible. ..Sprint is CDMA and dont use SIM cards ATT uses GSM and SIM cards

Because its for international SIM cards. Your Sprint S4 WILL NOT WORK on any US carrier other than Sprint.

I can confirm this. I work as a Sprint wireless consultant. A sim unlocked phone from Sprint is not compatible with any domestic carriers.

I'm sorry to have to disagree with this but I own a blackberry 9630 world phone from sprint and the sim slot works both with at&t as well as tmo. I understand ad long as contract is fulfilled and any etf's are paid Sprint will unlock sim slot and it will work with any carrier, gsm and CDMA alike. Check Sprint forums and speak with cs agents... :good:

Try using an Att/T-Mobile sim on an s4. It will be blocked even if the phone has been unlocked. Previous phones from sprint did not block USA native gsm but as of lately they do.
My good ol htc touch pro was a lucky one to work on USA gsm as of course your old black Berry.
You get it now? Its an accepted fact sprint has been going out of their way to block USA native gsm access on their latest phones. Perhaps some new ones aren't but the s4 is unless a work around is done but it doesn't work for everyone.

HTC One
This isn't entirely true. I unlocked my Sprint HTC One to run on aio wireless which is on the ATT network. I haven't unlocked my Galaxy S4 but I intend on giving it a shot.
Call sprint and ask for a subsidy unlock code.
You'll need to provide the IMEI
*#06# on the keypad. After they give you the code, try a gsm sim. Hope this helps.

Or buy an unlock code from Amazon or ebay if they wont give it to you ofcourse

thinking of doing the same with my s4 on sprint and going to aio. Been with sprint over a decade and finally over it. In houston and lte sucks.
wow that sucks, because even Verizon who is the greediest of them all will let you use their phone on both AT&T and T-Mobile. I have the AT&T Galaxy S4 and I can use my phone on T Mobile as well.

I tried and tried to unlock my Sprint S4 for domestic SIM but I have failed time and time again. I got it unlocked for International but Sprint has somehow managed to block the S4 from working on a Domestic carrier. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

I think I've read about people unlocking for use on metro pcs which is tmobile. Thanks for heads up though, probably gonna have to buy one when I switch.
I unlocked a Sprint s4 and I am able to make calls with a AT&T micro sim in but cannot get data and texts working. I had to downgrade the baseband to get into hidden menu, but I stopped there. In the hidden menu you have to make some changes but I was scared that if I got it to work on at&t I wouldnt be able to get it back working on Sprint. Everyone does say that Sprint doesnt allow anyone to use other domestic carriers.

For Those Running a Google Play Edition I9505G on AT&T

Hey everyone,
Did anyone register the IMEI for their I9505G with AT&T? If so, did you have any issues with your data plan changing to non-LTE? My GPE S4 will be here tomorrow and I'm worried that when I activate it, AT&T may not see it as an LTE-compatible device and thus limit my data plan to HSPA+ or something. I know when you're dealing with unlocked devices on AT&T, they will change your date plan speeds based on what their records show the device is capable of. So... did anyone have any issue with this or am I worrying over nothing?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 4
No. I never had any problems. I just asked for a new sim. Nothing more. I was coming from a skyrocket, took the larger sim. No questions were asked. They just got grabbed a new Sim card. Put it in and activated it. LTE workes great for me when I am in it.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk 4
No major problems. It was pretty straightforward. Only problem I had was that the S4 uses a micro SIM card and my old phone used a normal sized one so it didn't fit. One trip into an AT&T store and I was all set.
If you don't want to get a new micro SIM card, I guess there are some ways to trim down a normal card so that it works. Seemed easier to just go down to the store and get a new one and handle the activation in one stop.

Ah. So when you got the new SIM card, did you provide your new IMEI number? Or does AT&T still think you have a Skyrocket?
I have an AT&T GS4 right now, so I currently have an LTE data plan. I know I can just swap the SIM and LTE will work just fine. But say I called AT&T and said "Hey, I don't have that phone anymore and here is the IMEI of my new phone...", that's my question.
Does AT&T see the GPE GS4s as LTE capable in their database? I prefer to keep my IMEIs up to date with my carriers, but I won't update it if it means there's a chance I could lose an LTE data plan due to incorrect info on the I9505G in AT&T's database.
That's why I'm asking if anyone actually has an I9505G IMEI number registered with AT&T and if they had any LTE issues after doing so.

I gave them the new IMEI number.
After your two year contract is up, and you unlock your phone, do they turn off LTE? No. Plenty of people bring LTE capable phones to att network. If there is a problem. Make a phone call. They want your money more than they want a lost customer.

I understand that, but when it comes to unlocked devices that AT&T doesn't sell or support, like Nexus devices and, in this case, and I9505G, they sometimes have incorrect information about the phone's capabilities in their IMEI database. That it can lead to problems. But IrishPadres said he gave them the new IMEI and he still had LTE so that answers my entire question. That means that, even though they don't sell the I9505G, they still see it as an LTE capable device.

I just popped my SIM in and was fine. Never called ATT. I was already provisioned for LTE etc. You will only need to worry if you currently do not have a ATT account provisioned for LTE and a SIM. If you need to get a new account and SIM you may need to let them know the IMEI.
perfect
I swapped my sim out of my crappy iPhone 5 with a sim card adapter and no issues ever.

Samsung S8 Unlocked on Verizon

I bought an S8 from B&H. Showed up as a tmobile phone so I just flashed the unlocked version onto it. However, I stuck my old sim card from my phone onto it and now its asking for a pin unlock key and a pin. I've tried the ones off verizon and it isn't working at all.
Any ideas?
The phone is sim locked. Most likely going to have to get tmobile to unlock it.

Ah, I get it. I'm going to get it exchanged as I'm pretty sure someone skimmed the unlocked version off and replaced it with the tmobile. The unlocked version should be fine right? Just pop the sim card in?
Thanks
If you get a true unlocked version that should be the case. I bought a US unlocked S8 directly from Samsung and all I did was pop in my Verizon sim. I'm on a prepaid plan so the only extra feature I get is VoLTE. Not sure if postpaid is any different.
