"Prevention information" message - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I kept getting this annoying message, so I did a factory reset and I got it again within the first hour. The annoying thing is it doesn't actually specify the app which is trying to access the system, but it must be a stock one because I hadn't installed any apps yet when I got the message again.
Has anyone else seen this coming up repeatedly?

that would be knox

I just posted this in another Note 3 forum here (The AT&T one)
From what I've gathered from searching the web, its a problem with Samsung's KNOX and the new Google Settings app thats automatically installed on your phone.
Apparently Samsung is aware of it and are working to resolve the issue

[Q] android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly

Hey guys....I've had the Glacier for two weeks and I couldn't be happier. I got the OTA 2.2.1 and rooted it without any problems. Then, today I got a "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" only when I go to the phone dialer or contacts. Everything else works perfectly. Earlier today I changed the boot animation and the splash screen...both work flawlessly. I changed the boot animation back to stock and see if that would fix it but no luck. I have rebooted and taken the battery out several times but no go. I checked around and no one else seems to have the same issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance.
Edit...I just fixed the problem...I had downloaded a Tmobile voicemail app that was causing a conflict. I uninstalled it and I'm golden again. I appreciate the help. Thanks.
I've had this come up intermittently since rooting, and haven't been able to nail it down to one specific action or app, etc. It's happened since doing perma-root, and doesn't seem to matter if I'm running stock ROM or CM6.1 Alpha (which I flashed last night - had this pop up once or twice since).
It's annoying, but hasn't caused any real problems so far.
Would be nice to figure out why it's happening, and find a resolution.
What apps, if any, have either of you deleted since rooting?
Does it write any useful exception information in the log file?

I haven't deleted any apps...just hid them under general settings using Launcher Pro...the only other thing I did different today was unlock the SIM using the code Tmobile sent me but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it....Just can't access the Phone at all or the Contacts without a force close...I'm stumped...
Trying to figure out a good way to upload a log file...
I think it might have something to do with permissions..it said among other things...
W/dalvikvm*3381):Refusing to reopen boot DEX'/system/framework/com.htc.android.pimlib.jar
not sure what that means....
Please post questions in Q&A section.
Yep, I'm having the same issue. It does it when I'm using a few applications like Twidroid, even ChompSMS, and another one. I'm thinking it has less to do with what applications I'm using at that time (meaning it would do it no matter what application I had open) but those 2 I use 95% of my time on the phone.
& I as well have not deleted any applications only freezed them with Titanium Backup Pro.

Voicemail: "A mandatory update is now avaliable."

Anybody get a message about a mandatory voicemail update? I tried updating and it keeps failing.
Yeah I updated it and it installed. It would continue to bug the crap out of me if I kept saying no. Regardless, I use Google voice for voicemail anyways.

Thanks! since you said you got it to update, I figured it would be related to some sprint app I froze in TitaniumBackup. I unfroze it all, rebooted and it updated successfully.
As far as I know every new phone has that mandatory upgrade, my step-son's Transform did, my wife's Shift did and my Hero did after the swap out (and I bet my Shift will when I get it tomorrow). It should work, just don't exit out of the status screen when you're downloading it, if you hit home or go to another app it will fail.
got the same update and installed just fine. Besides the voice to text, not much is new...
it took me 10 or so trys before mine worked. I updated my PLM first before it actually worked. pretty annoying.
Does anyone know if this might undo root? I just got this notification but I don't wanna install any updates til I know its cool for sure

it won't bother root
It will bug you forever with a new "Try our FREE new voicemail to text demo" button on every single voicemail you listen to, though. Wish I could just go back to the old version without hard resetting. It's like having a Sprint ad on every voicemail. (edit: it's free for a month, then $2 a month thereafter)

I was able to delete that little ad just like any other voicemail and don't get bothered by it any more. Do other people have this problem too? I must be just missing it or something.
Edit - I thought you meant the actual message...
I flashed the Evo(Shift)Nonsense rom a couple of days ago and had this same problem with the update failing repeatedly. Eventually I had had enough and on a whim I found the backup of the updated voicemail apk from when I was still on stock and installed it...viola no more nags and the VVM is updated. File attached if you want to try it...
Haha awesome..thanks!

thx ! i been trying to get rid of that nagging mandatory update notifcation all day! finally got vvm working on a GB rom on evo
If you deleted the Sprint Updater app, the upgrade will have a general failure. Toss that apk back into system/apps, reboot, and it updates fine
Thanks alot hdmunger! That .Zip worked for me!
Just letting the 3g download the update has always fixed the issue for me

I updated my Facebook app last night, and since then it's been coming up with this message every time I log in. Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this? I've tried uninstalling and installing again but it makes no difference.

Well this is the buggy Knox update. Samsung already heard about it and they said they should provide a fix by the end of this week (lol).

I read somewhere else that you should press the update, which I did of course yet it keeps saying network error or something along those lines

With the update 4.3 this should be fixed.
It looked like Samsung accidentally pushed out the Knox binaries without the management app and the update server being online.
Anyway, if the message keeps coming back, I recommend to disable the Knox service entirely. I did it with Titanium Backup, just freeze any app containing the word "Knox".

Virus Detected

Okay, so I decided to take my Nexus 7 back to stock before I upgraded to 4.4 so I erased everything, formatted, returned to stock 4.3 and the I updated and rooted with SuperSU while keeping stock recovery. I honestly haven't touched my Nexus since then because I been inundated with work. Today I pick it up and browse to xda on chrome to download some files and while going through the forum I get a pop up (one of those old school ie pop ups) that says "Android virus detected on device, scan now."
Now granted, I haven't yet installed any ad-blocking services but I can't even remember the last time I got a bogus pop up like on my computer let alone on a mobile device, and never on xda. WTH? Not gonna lie, kind of freaked me out. Anyone else experience this?
Okay seriously now I'm actually worried. I just decided to reset the device and now I'm stuck in the start up. I get to the WiFi selection page. I click my WiFi enter my password and it connects BUT there's no way to move forward. There is no next button. The only thing on the bottom of the screen is the back nav key. I've turned off and restarted the device twice and no luck. First I get apps and Google services stopping all over the place and now the start up wizard is acting out. I don't want to re-flash 4.4 all over just yet. Any one experience this before?

Crazy, never had these kind of pop ups before. Did you ever have them before updating to 4.4?
The problem with resetting is I keep getting stuck on the freaking wifi page. It connects but instead of moving to next page after I click connect, it just connects and remains on the same page. I try clicking forget and re-entering the pw but nothing works. I've even tried resetting and clearing cache from recovery and I still keep getting stuck on this damn page. Frustrating. I guess I really am going to need to re-flash the update.

Do you have access to any other Wi-Fi network (like a Tethered connection from your phone)? Can you try connecting to it and see if you are able to move forward?
I'm getting the pop up asking to scan but I cancel it and it goes away. That's been my only issue.

Yeah, this is beginning to get on my nerves. Resetting has made *no* difference for me. In fact, I just re-flashed the whole freaking update and first webpage I open up in Chrome, pop ups, switch to dolphin, pop ups, firefox, pop ups. It's happening on two devices and one isn't even rooted. Are your pop ups from ib.adnxs.com as well? Because that's where all my "virus" pop ups are from. I would say it's malware but I haven't even the slightest idea where it might have came from. As of right now the only apps on my devices apart from the pre-installed ones are Greenify, Solid Explorer, Quickpic, Stickmount, SuperSU, Dropbox and ZArchiver. Never had malware with any of these apps so I don't even know where this ib.adnxs is generating from and it's annoying the ever living **** out of me.
I don't know if I should suspect the GEL or the Google Search update, because really I can't think of where else this is coming from.

1. Where did you get the "stock" image?
2. Where did you get the update OTA?
I only ask because yesterday I DL'd a "stock" image for another device from Sammobile & I found that it had some host file changes. The odd thing was that for the first time I can remember, my corporate security client wouldn't let me DL it as it detected a risk, so I dl'd to an isolated secure drive & tore into it, hence finding the modified hosts.

So I did a brief search on ib.adnxs and a bunch of links came up talking about malware affecting browsers. Mostly pop ups happening everytime you open a web page or a new tab.
http://malwaretips.com/blogs/nym1-ib-adnxs-com-virus/
Check this out. If you google on "ib.adnxs android", there is a link that talks about android browsers been affected by it too.
Hope it helps.
Probably malware infected ad server and has nothing to do with the image as long as you got it from a legit source. You can reduce your risk by using something like OpenDNS servers.
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, I looked it up as well but man it's still frustrating. I Know it' not the OTA or the GEL/Google Search because I got them from a legit source (AP), I was just venting. I don't even know if it is the servers, no one else in the household is experiencing it, hell even my note 2 doesn't have the problem. I'll try using OpenDNS to see if it makes any difference.

I tried running Avast and MalwareBytes and nothing comes up, but I'm still getting the same pop ups, both "virus detected, scan now" and almost full page pop up ads that I can never close. Seriously, trying to close the ads just takes me to a new page, backing out is the only thing that works for some of them. I'm stumped. SuperSU is updated so no worries there. I even went back and locked my bootloader but I don't think that has anything to do with it since the second tablet isn't even unlocked. I'm beyond frustrated, I almost threw my Nexus on the hardwood. I'm going to try flashing the factory images straight from Google. Don't expect it to change anything but...I'm using my note 2 in the mean time.
I'm the only person in the household with android tablets (the phones seems to be fine oddly enough but then again none of them are updated to kitkat). My friend has a Nexus 5 so I'm going to get her over here on my wifi to see if the pop ups show up in her browsers. Maybe this thing has been on the servers all along and there's a vulnerability in kitkat that's allowing it through? I don't know.

Locksceen PIN Bug!!! ON ESSENTIAL!!!

I have been updated to android ten and now the lock screen will revert back to the lock screen every time you put in the pin even if its correct. I seen the pixel is having the problem also. Ive tried to change to a password instead of the in and it wont let me change it because it asks for the pin to change it and does the same thing and if you twice it crashes settings app. I went to turn oem unlock bootloader in case it turned off and couldn't get back in and it wont even let me turn oem unlock on because it ask for a pin and then does the same thing then setting app crashes. Is anyone experiencing this and what is the work around?
Not a real solution, but it appears you can add a new user and still use the phone while you wait for a real fix from Google/Essential.

So I had been on Android 10 since it came out everything worked fine until yesterday was trying to put in my pin, and it would do what I explained. I didn't think anything of it until I seen the article about the pixel and then I knew it was the same bug. This almost has to be a server side change because my phone was fine until yesterday. I tried everything I could find to fix it and it will not let you change the user on essential. Ultimately I did reset in recovery because the phone isn't functional after this bug hits.

You can get into the settings with that method but it wont let you do anything from the setting that would be useful. I seen where on pixel you can change users and use the phone but this option wouldnt work on the essential for me.
You can try deleting /lockscreen.db in data/system/lockscreen.db
That will delete your current lock screen password but won't touch anything else. Just go in twrp and mount system and go to advanced/file manager and navigate to said file and swipe to delete.
Probably not very much help but just an idea...
